I love how Thanos looked in these movies. Josh Brolin's performance is amazing, but the VFX crew really captured him well.
I would like a 5-hour movie of just this.
bruh u read my mind lol
that would cost more than endgame LOL
Thanos seems so god damn real that it's so easy to forget that he's not even real the way his skin moves and looks the pores on his body or the hair whether it was the beard stubble on his face or the way his arm hairs catch the light.
They went all out in preparing this character.
Please, PLEASE do more breakdowns like this. I love learning about how you all make your characters
Graciastu the jjjkk
What software do you use?
LIKE you do work on a PC or a MAC?
yes
@@Beastiie7 the VFX pipeline has a multitude of software, ranging from simulation, animation, sculpture, etc. The most prominent software I've seen being used is Autodesk Maya and 3ds Max, Nuke, Houdini, Zbrush, and Substance Painter. But they also have programmers that create tools necessary for each project that requires it, which is why for instance Pixar uses RenderMan and Presto for animation and rendering. Meanwhile other studios may use other tools they may have made in-house or would just license it from other studios.
It's a big industry, but at the same time small enough for artists to know each other. I love it and I'm studying to work in it. Let me tell you I've only worked in Maya and it's PRETTY HARD to learn all of these tools
@@CVerse Best answer I have ever got on UA-cam, Thank you so much! Keep it up and I wish you well
Cheers!
Thanos was such a believable character. Every person involved in his creation should take a bow. He's a movie legend and he won't age poorly like so many other digital effects creations.
it looks better than avatar 2 characters. specially the movement, the movement of his body is so realistic.
We said the same thing about PS 2 when it came out
A perfect marriage between Josh Brolin and special effects, Thanos is as real as CGI characters get.
these movies shouldn't exist
they are impossibly amazing
Weta's Thanos is the most realistic one among the 3 that're done by 3 different VFX houses. This is of cause completely expected because Weta literally reinvented the mo-cap technology through LOTR KK & Avatar.
Wasn't thanos handled by only 2 houses? Weta and Digital Domain
dannywaving yes I think so
@@dannywaving I thought Framestore also did a version of Thanos, no?
@@dannywaving Didn’t ILM work on thanos aswell?
@@yelistenerThat was Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
I expect nothing less from Weta Digital, these are the people who helped bring Gollum to the screen, and they succeeded once again with Thanos.
For Josh Brolin, the deeper into the exploration of the visual effects technology, the more uninhibited the actor became in his performance.
I love to imagine showing this to kids from the 50s, before movie magic really took it's hold on cinema. I'd show it in an IMAX theater, upscaled to 8K, and those 4D seats you'd find in theme parks with the shaking, the water, the wind and the smell. I think it would absolutely rock their world
Thanos makes for a surprisingly sympathetic villain, thanks in no small part due to Josh Brolin's fantastic motion captured performance.
This was a significant leap for VFX
Thanos has quickly become one of the most recognizable on screen villains of the 2010s. A lot of fame definitely is a result of Josh Brolin's dynamic performance and incredible range.
1:36 OMG SO MUCH DETAIL GUYS!!! If I try to render one frame with that kind of detail I would set my whole town on fire.
Ha ha ha.😄 my computer would burst into pieces without even rendering one frame properly.
The biggest of villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos is an immensely powerful villain who machinations to acquire the Infinity Stones have plagued the Avengers and other superhero groups for years. The genocidal warlord is gradually revealed over the course of Marvel's first three phases, with the effects used to animate him improving over time as well, with the CGI looking incredibly naturalistic by the time of Avengers: Infinity War.
It's amazing to bring a virtual character to life on screen with photorealism.
Thanos has come to occupy a pretty sizeable piece of cultural real estate thanks to Josh Brolin's charismatic performance and the excellent scriptwriting of the monumetally popular Avengers movies.
From Gollum all the way to Thanos, simply awesome!
Thanos made a huge impression in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His complex motives and a tremendous performance from Josh Brolin made audiences believe in his goals, and his use of the gauntlet created a shocking scene that snapped its way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and cinema history.
Thanos has reached a new level of pop culture appreciation in recent years thanks to his three-dimensional portrayal in Avengers: Infinity War. He was now considered to be one of the best cinema villains of the century.
I would pay to watch a full length Thanos movie with the same or better quality we got in both films.
Josh Brolin's journey to bring Thanos front and center in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been several years in the making.
Is this even legal to make this kind of masterpiece?
Marvel did a fantastic job doing amazing cgi and other amazing effects . Weta digital is absolutely brilliant. I hope to go to the studio and try the work out
Thanos was born with both a genius level intellect and a deformity because he became a renegade who went against the traditional power structures of his world to do what he thought was right and the tragedy he faced was the failures of good people.
THE DATAILS OF THANOS WAS SO CRAZY..I LOVE IT!
Thanos is a complex and charismatic warlord whose calm composure, violent acts and firm belief of doing the right thing makes him one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe villains.
Thanos is a visionary who wants what is best for his civilization at large and uses unorthodox methods in his own ways.
0:37 This part truly impresses me🙌
Thanos is a complex and charismatic villain, whose status is further elevated by the magnitude of the cinematic event in which he appeared.
The work so good that inside movie hall I genuinely forgot that thanos is a CGI character...hats off
Love Weta Digital! 🇳🇿
#Proud True New Zealander
Thanos is an outcast who faces discrimination due to his deformity that thoroughly shaped who he had eventually become, longs to prove himself worthy to others, has admirable qualities of courage, determination, honor, compassion and honesty. Thanos is willing to go through dangerous and extreme methods in order to accomplish of bring stability to chaos.
Kevin Feige: "In our story, Thanos had to deliver a threat far beyond anything the Avengers had ever seen before. That's not just making him strong and powerful. It's about having a villain who's charismatic and who you surprisingly begin to feel for. More so than any of our other movies, this is very much a story about Thanos and his drive, goals and past. This is the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that a film is really told from the villain's point of view."
Thanos is the ultimate supervillain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Portrayed in motion capture and voiced by Josh Brolin, Thanos the Mad Titan requires a complex spectrum of emotions from pathos to pride to pure rage.
1:47 that vein is so meticulous but beautiful
Audience: "Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Josh Brolin are the real heroes of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame."
Me: *"VFX artists are the real hero of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame."*
THE BEST CGI
i could watch something like this all day Outstanding Work and VFX Artists are really overlooked
And you guys lost an Oscar too... what exactly? A movie about space in 2018 and a movie about war in 2019.
Thanos should have won two Oscars for Best Visual Effects. If Davy Jones and Gollum can, why didn’t Thanos!?
BloodyFlowerFilms exactly, that’s one of the reasons why I don’t watch the oscars
@@rodrigob8164 me too
Absolutely incredible!
Thanos is a dangerous menace who emerges from the cosmic shadows and a despot of intergalactic infamy.
when they zoomed in on his cheek...how is that even possible
Such a brilliant performance... and I'm talking about the technical geniuses at Weta Digital.
Its like, the film looks great and the performance and cgi of Thanos looks so believable you dont think twice. And then they zoomed in to his pores to show they stretched too. Like that blew my mind, the level of detail they achieved
Endgame should've won best VFX
I think part of the problem is we've come to expect groundbreaking work in every one of these films, so the very fact that it's groundbreaking is somehow unimpressive ( to the general masses). It's weird, I know. That said as an amateur animator and 3D software user I find it mind-blowing knowing just how much work my laughable attempts can be.
AdventuresInPortland hey man, I’m sure your work isn’t laughable. Just keep practicing and focus on yourself and you’ll get to where you wanna be. I’m also an artist and it can be tough sometimes but if you wanna be at the top then you gotta put in that work! 💪🏽💯
John Robichaud Yea instead some dumbass 1917 won because of realistic explosions
01:18 when I see kid in public
It's ridiculous how talented both Weta Digital and Weta Workshop are.
Brendan Sousa
It isn't only WETA, ILM did much of the cgi and vfx.
@@jeppe4545 So did the Digital Domain and few other VFX houses
Avengers: Endgame is a spiritual adaptation to the Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies, which features the visual effects team of Weta Digital and reunites with famous movie stars including Benedict Cumberbatch and Evangeline Lilly.
Josh Brolin: "Thanos sees this big universal picture, but at first glance, you don't see the kind of intricacies within, but as you start to follow the logic, you begin to understand him. He looks at an overpopulated place where people are in the process of destroying themselves and thinks about how he can fix that. He is not a good guy, but his idea makes sense to him. But then you have to ask the question: who is he doing it for, is he doing it really to save the other half, and is that a justifiable? You can really dig into that whole thing. It's really fun to bring all that out."
I wonder who will be the next big character that Weta will bring to life
OMG those pores in the facial surface are amazing
For Josh Brolin, Thanos is not a straight villain as he found Thanos to be filled with many complexities.
You guys are the real heros
Please upload more of the Black Order!
Black order characters were done by different VFX Studios
@@vfxmemes I know, but still there are more scenes to be breakdown.
I mean, I don't think they only worked on Proxima and Corvus' deaths.
When I watch Endgame and iWar, I kinda forget Thanos isn't a real being...
Joe Russo: Thanos is an outcast and a mutant. Everyone on Titan looks different than he does and he viewed as a pariah. His past mired in tragedy, which pushes him to correct what happened in the past.
Just watched Peter Jackson's "The Freightners" on bluray. Say the credits and was like WETA worked on this?? Great sky tunnel effect and that effect on Johnny's face in the graveyard. Say that flick in a drive in theater in Edmonton alberta on the west side of Edmonton in 1996 when I was 11.
Can you please also relase your work on the Snyder Cut 🙏🙏🙏
Me watching this video for the 20th time* "I'm gonna enjoy it... very very much"
Very interesting stuff. Hope to possibly work on this kind of stuff in the future.
Inferno * lol same
If I would have continued in art when I was in college in 1993, I coulda been working at WETA or ILM instead of being a RN. I would have preferred the former.
2:38 to 2:40
Anthony Russo: "Thanos is virtually indestructible character who is stronger than the Hulk and has invincible skin. Many years before Avengers: Infinity War, his planet, Titan, experienced a cataclysmic event. They were running out of resources, and they were overpopulated. Thanos made the recommendation to exterminate half the population randomly to save the rest of the population. Titans rejected his notion, branded him a mad man and exiled him. And the planet ended up dying."
so very awesome. inspiring.
You guys are really assume ... which software did you use for composting?
I love breakdowns more than films 🤨
I want to work here once the pandemic gets over
It's amazing what a small youtube channel can do!
world class
Magical
I honestly think that the part in Infinity War when thanos is surrounded with mantis on his shoulder is quiet bad. You can clearly see with his mounth and teeth that all of it is CGI and just his face in general , some other moments and parts too. But other than that its really a great work
Yup, some times they have to make cost cutting , artists have to finish under deadlines , so some shots quality will go down,
Hi, Could You Guys Share The Muscle Software You Use, I Really Wanna Make Games With It In The Future,
I want to learn all this.. Where do I begin?
Thanos not a narcissistic psychopath and never was!!And he was right..Actually all Avengers are Clowns !
How do you even think of these softwares and how do you even find them
What software do you use?
LIKE you do work on a PC or a MAC?
What software do you use?
LIKE you do work on a PC or a MAC?
@@Beastiie7 Its a combination of different specialized softwares in a pipeline, Such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke etc.. and in VFX studios Mostly Linux is used, they use Windows also for some softwares that are not available on Linux.
The narrator sorta sounds like Gabe Lewis from The Office
How much would it cost to make a full 3d cgi series using this level of animation?
Over a billion dollars, the more complex the CGI is, the more expensive it becomes.
Here after Snyder cut Justice league's 2nd trailer.
0:26 I actually don't like the fact that Marvel just start up labelled Thanos a narcissist and a psychopath . It completely foregoes all the character development , complexity , and sympathy Thanos had built in Infinity War . The reason why Thanos was such a compelling antagonist in Infinity War was that though he was cruel and psychotic , he was extremely honorable being who was ( from his POV ) just misunderstood and though his actions were horrible , his cause was just . The fact that the VFX Supervisor out and out labelled Thanos was a narcissistic psychopath completely removes all the moral greyness and complexity his character had in favor of complete darkness and caricaturish villain . Not only does this ruin the character a bit , it also sends out a wrong message to the audience ( especially kids who are very gullible ) that just because someone does bad deeds that he/she is all bad and is an evil person . That is extremely dehumanizing and basic interpretation of people and lives and it might cause children to be more narrow minded towards others . Everyone in the world , no matter how good or liberal they try to act , has committed some sin . If it isn't a crime , it might be some other deed such as bullying some other ( both physically or mentally ) , cheating , emotionally blackmailing , lying , committing fraud ,etc . Everyone has done some messed up thing but that doesn't make them bad . It makes them human . Just because someone commits a sin doesn't make them necessarily a bad person at all . The person might actually be good but he/she may have just been misguided . If you label any person as good or bad or paint the world in black and white , it is extremely narrow minded and bigoted and such an approach might lead to more hate and toxicity rather than promote the idea of being good or loving one another or being united .
show the tutorial !! =D
Who's after James Cameron's comment about Thanos Mocap?
he was praising Thanous but people think he was dissing Thanos
and people saying nowdays CGI is Bad ? I look at this......no i dont think so
If you compare this and cgi from 27y ago, yes it still bad.
Ps: sorry if your comment supposed to be a joke.

Wait! So are you all trying to tell me that Thanos was not a real actor?
There are rumours that weta digital is going to make VFX in Indian film adi purrush.
Is it true?
All this for a drop of blood
So you added displacement maps to the fascial animation.... Nothing new there
hope you're joking
