"And now eyes burn circles in the dark/And when the mirror talks to me I listen with my heart" Donnelly is one of the best lyricists in the history of rock.
You know the shape my breath will take / before I let it out. Stand like you did / when I was beauty marked in your eye. Just amazing. Original, poetic, emotional, rock n roll. All in one
Their music exploded during the 1990s… by that I mean they were everywhere. They packed theaters and their videos were always intensely entertaining: I have remained a fan since the day they debuted their first music video on MTV, VH-1 ……just loud and awesome music.
Loved these guys, I used to listen to them as a new journalist writer and they are an inspiration. At the time I was jest separated from my wife n kids, her voice, was like my wife talking to me. I felt her pain, felt like she knew mine. It kept me sane and sober and I had a great motocross journalist career, and reunited with wifey 6 years ago. Thanks guys. :-D
@@Tifa556 just glad to hear these guys are remember. We see happy the second time stone and in January we became grandparents to healthy and study baby boy, Andrew. 🤗😇🥰 facebook.com/michael.james.9275
Kind of common cry, kind of common lie, you know the shape my breath will take before I let it out! This album should've been so much more, but at least we have Mass Ave!
somebody posted a fanvid for this song on youtube once, that was mainly just the Wizard of Oz characters falling asleep in the poppies before they get to the Emerald City... i wish it was still up, as much as i love the original vid ❤
So True she is beautiful and at the same time a great singer/song writer. I believe that more than a few industry tarts in the music industry could learn something from Tanya and possibly class up their acts.
Saw Belly at the Vooruit in Gent after this album came out. Tanya seemed like a genuinely nice person. I remember the band made a few mistakes throughout the show, played a few wrong chords here and there and laughed it off. It was a really fun night.
I bet the lead singer(face unseen)was Juliana Hatfield and the bass player was Melissa Auf Der Mauer(hard to forget those legs and hair).Loved Tanya and Juliana cover of the Josie&the Pussycats title track for the Cartoon Network!
Anyone know where I can find the acoustic version of Tanya doing this? It was on youtube for a bit and it has since disappeared - it was a fan-made video with Wizard of Oz spliced in to the song...the song version was one of the best things I've ever heard.
So ..I'm just now (2018),delving into Belly...Is Tanya wanting to front her own band, have more control, etc,why she left Breeders?....just wondering. .have always wondered? ???why Tanya why?
@soonerxii Isn't there some crappy contemporary rapper named Belly? I saw headlines of "Belly's new single a hit" and stuff like that and I got really excited for a while until I realized it was an imposter... :(
Brilliant but so criminally underrated ❤.
This song is the headliner on the soundtrack of my life.

King is the most underrated album of all time. yeah, i said it.
Agreed!!
So true!
for sure
13 years later..still true
Can't understand why no one I know has heard of them. she's amazing.
Belly will ALWAYS be one of my favorite bands
King. I wore this CD out. I have STAR and KING unopened just so I can have them if I need them! Sad I know, but its just how good this band was!
I was lucky to experience them live, at the Blue Note.
What an incredibly energetic show!
We were smiling the entire time.
+yelling, *"Belly!"*
Guess what. The band reformed they are back with a new album.
Love this song... miss this group. I loved the 90's
Omg I've been looking for this song for more than 20 years ! I'm low key emotional right now
King is an underrated masterpiece
This is my favorite song by Belly or Tonya D. a great and under rated song
I got to see belly a few times, top quality, and this song knocks it out the park.

I love the Tanya Stomp. She is so cool.
BEST GUITAR MOVE OF THE '90S
COMPLETELY LOADED with pop hooks - even The Beatles didn't pile as many hooks into one song as Tanya Donnelly and crew, Quite outstanding really....
Just had this song bubble back up into my consciousness, and it's just as great as I remember.
Tanya at her peak cuteness. If there was any woman of alternative rock back in the 90s that I could have spent a day with, I would have chose her.
nothing like this then or now. truly special.

Love and miss the band!
Aces! Glad I saw these guys live. Good times and great tune!
I loved this song from the first time I heard it in the mid-90's.
FANTASTICALLY AWESOME SONG FROM BELLY!!, the dj
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out.
Wearing a Lunachicks T-shirt while servicing 6L6 vacuum tube equipped Marshalls - pretty much my day-job during the 1990s.
6L6 was awesome (yes I know)
Love it!
Big sis never could keep up w lil sis, but she’s got a handful of bangers, and this is one of em.
siiii la adoroooooooooooo.

Whoa.. the memories this brings back...

Always had a crush on Tanya. Underrated band.
This whole friggin' BAND is way underrated.
this may be their best song. miss this band.
it's 2023 and still listening to this gem ♦
Cute video
July 1995 every week i listen on the top 40 countdown
2/14/20
This album came out 25 years ago today.
Wow, that's insane. Where the heck did the time go? I want to hit the reset button
*500th* upvote!
Loved.......................it!!
also, this song is getting me sober rn. i Swear to Tanya Donnelly ❤
Brilliant
Belly reunion? Dude, the Muses are back!
help please! is this the same chick that did a song with Catherine wheel?
LATE response, but it is! "Judy Staring at the Sun." Nice catch!
I always wanted one of those shirts.
I have of those shirts! They sold them on that tour in '95.

another band who never gets any airplay on heart 90s or absolute 90s...shame on them.
I like how the "band" is backlit and you can't see their faces, kind of anonymous, and the true heroes are the road crew.
But the band is the road crew, right?
@@huxleypig69 and the members of the road crew have just fallen asleep and are day dreaming that they have transformed into Belly.
1:09 Gail robs a banana, lol 😂

the acoustic version is up, as the b-side with 'Red', fyi
@@Tifa556 I found it about a year ago, but thanks for the reply!
The Tanya Stomp!
Tanya , if you are out there.....where can I get one of those Belly patches for my jean jacket? Love you:)
Gail is so flippin' hot!
So ..I'm just now (2018),delving into Belly...Is Tanya wanting to front her own band, have more control, etc,why she left Breeders?....just wondering. .have always wondered? ???why Tanya why?
P.S. when a girl looks super cute and pretty in BLACK AND WHITE... SHE IS THE REAL DEAL! Tanya 4Life ! Belly Rules!
1:08
Did Gail just...steal a bagel? 😂
Love this song. Love Gail in a skirt. Banzai!
She was hot.
@TIMOTHYSAARINEN TOTALLY AGREE...
Man...Tanya's got a killer set of legs.....
love it to death even if it is 'dear prudence' really
@soonerxii Isn't there some crappy contemporary rapper named Belly? I saw headlines of "Belly's new single a hit" and stuff like that and I got really excited for a while until I realized it was an imposter... :(
Tragically. This is a hugely misunderestimated band. Rhode islanders need to lay off those horns stop being oblivious and look to the obvious.
Gail Greenwood is so INSANELY hot!
Tanya has always looked like a 40 year old mom lol
I saw Belly touring with Radiohead in 90-something. Been one of my musical guilty pleasures ever since.
Shouldn't be a guilty pleasure.
Still fucking rule
I bet she does but that is Gail in the skirt.
i feel like the band could be L7 🧐
Good song, but 'Red' is better.
