We were poor and my mom got me "Current Vision" CD for Christmas cause it was a few dollars cause it was what she could afford. Changed my life, in a positive way. Lots of bangers on that CD
I'm not sure..I'm thinking Glastonbury 93-94.I don't know..First time I heard belly..I know it was Glastonbury...And I was hooked ,Be came an instant fan..Have most of their albums This is one of my favourite tracks..I love playing drums to it..😍💖
I still have this CD bought it back in high school. I still listen to it, the best thing about this CD is that you can really listen to it all the way through every song is good.
huh. I've been watching a lot of thier videos now for a few minutes and I really like thier music. I only came on here to listen to "feed the tree" because it was stuck in my head because of that VH1 show, and it made me remember the song from when I was a young dude, and I had to hear it to get it out of my head, and I started to listen to thier other songs and I like them. They are a good band.
@dwils27 It WAS released in the 90s, they were on the cover of Rolling Stone in the 90s and even got a bit ;-)) of airplay in the 90s...They also broke up in the 90s...saw Tanya's solo act after Belly was long gone and she ripped it up proper!!! The thing that happened was 'Metal-rap' Limp Bizcutt, Kid Rock type stuff took over commercial music and rock-n-roll died for a minute or half a decade :-))
Allegedly this song was written about the Lemonheads' Evan Dando. "Are there heartstrings connected/To the poison coming out of your mouth?/Are you super-connected?/Are you super-connected now?" Amazing lyrics. Also, this video is some super-trippy shit.
@randyIII Same for me, actually "King" is in my top 10 albums from the 90s along with other excellent albums from bands and singers like Smashing Pumpkins, Slowdive, Blur, Aimee Mann, PJ Harvey, Morrissey, Blind Melon, Nirvana and Garbage. It was a very important part in the music history when the bands they were awesome, meaningful and sort of magical. I was a teenager then and nowadays I carry all those years in my Ipod... I miss my beautiful 90s! todays bands sound so wastable!
I suppose, ya, technically "King" was a flop because it was expected to be....and should have been a huge success but wasn't. The "problem" wasn't that it was a flop. The problem was, Belly made a Pop Masterpiece but folks didn't want a Pop Masterpiece, they wanted MORE grunge to wallow in. Star was grungey, King was Poppy, this, maybe threw people for a loop. I really don't know why, I am just imagining that it was a struggle with the label , bands creativity versus label's greediness, label throws Belly under bus because it doesn't understand album, media cant easily categorize it etc. I really don't know but this is what I have always thought. Great freakin balls to the wall album, just rawks, like a great big bombastic classic record from the 70s. Frankly "King" rocks like a big hard cawk!
Dead on Marc. King kicks ass over Star (imo) and this cd is full of tight power pop, I always thought the same thing, that they got closeted by the label (Sire - Warner Bros.) and in the same year "Aurora Gory Alice" comes out (Letters to Cleo) and is shot all over media by who? (Giant - a Warner Bros label). Not to mention (but I will) that glyn johns produced King. This should have been a platinum cd, how frustrating that must have been.
They just played down the street here in San Francisco tonight. People thought her voice still sounds pretty good....amazing to tour again after all this time.
@ altrent27 this song's for people that love music. period. we loved them when it first came out; we still do. we've never liked stridence or kneejerking. enjoy it. relax.
I fucking love this song. 9 people have no fucking taste. Somewhere, I don't know where, I have my promotional dice for this album that are weighted so that whenever you throw them, they always come up "Belly" and "King". I need to find those!
@momustoog Yes, that was the period where they had to blow the bank to make it happen. Heck, they were on the cover of freakin Rolling Stone. They took a shot at it and were denied. Very sad, I pegged them for superstardom, should have known better. This album blew me away, I used to listen to it as loud as I could stand in my car. Tanya looks soooooo damn hot in this vid. I'll tell ya....they had it going on , very, very wrong that they didn't get the exposure they deserved. MTV did there best.
Way, way late reply on this... If you want to see ultimate "hot Tanya", Belly's video for "Slow Dog". She and Gail are both STUNNING in that video. Young. Healthy. Beautiful. The make, styling and lighting people really nailed it in that video. What's amazing to me is how Tanya's looks evolved over time... In the early days of the Muses, she and Kristen were pretty rough looking. I've seen several interviews where Tanya looks drunk, stoned or otherwise drugged out of her mind, and she's far from "pretty". Getting away from the superficial... Belly and the Muses for that matter, were fucking great bands! Tanya and Kristen have crazy amounts of talent and are still great today (2024). I regrettably missed there show in Newport last fall. Hoping to catch some sort of Muses reunion, or Belly when they do one of their limited tours again.
the market was full of talent at the time. If they were around now competing with Justin Beiber and Avril Lavine they would be huge. At the time even the shitty bands were OK. I mean the shitty bands were Green Day, The Offspring, and Bush. Any one of them would be ripping up the tracks today, and Green Day still does fairly well
No MTV sucked... All they ever show, play or have on there when they had actual MUSIC on there was coloured people music. It seem's that's all they will play. Just like radio
I'd give my defective left arm for a copy of King... actually it's not that defective, i can still use it to close doors, but I might kill a bee for a copy of King
I'd take that any day, over the poor excuse that it has become in the last decade. Bunch of non-related shows on a music channel. Brilliant idea--not! It's like airing shows about aliens and UFOs on The History Channel... oh, wait.
Belly, Muses, Breeders - all blessed with Tanya
Fantastic song and very good to hear again - and she's awesome
You can never go wrong with extreme closeups of Tanya.
Quintessential 90s alt...brings me back to my teens!! Love Tanya! Very underestimated..great voice!
We were poor and my mom got me "Current Vision" CD for Christmas cause it was a few dollars cause it was what she could afford. Changed my life, in a positive way. Lots of bangers on that CD

Song kicks ass...
Miss this band! Star and King were were staples of high-school and college...
Love it! The most uplifting chorus ever!
chris gorman, the drummer, actually directed this. he did most of the photography for belly's releases too.
I definitely need to listen to King more. I saw Belly live a few years ago and they were fantastic.
I still have this CD bought it back in high school. I still listen to it, the best thing about this CD is that you can really listen to it all the way through every song is good.
ahhh, i looove this, reminder of my teenage days and Belly and the Breeders were my fave bands. Thanks for this video!
And they have both released albums in 2018.!
Like both but esp the Breeders album
Im also the one. Fan of tanya. 4ad forever stay safe
Tanya is golden 😀
"King" was not a flop. It didn't sell well, because the audience failed to recognize it's magnificence.
huh. I've been watching a lot of thier videos now for a few minutes and I really like thier music. One of the best commercial songs from the 90's!
Love it - I'm spinnin' on a dime too - they've reformed - Tanya D is a legend
It'll be 18 on Valentine's Day. I feel the same way. Has it really been that long? I was 19 when this came out. I can't believe I've gotten this old.
Beautiful voice
I miss this band
Tanya is art work . And I mean that in super respectful way … love her

+Marc Landry I am so glad you shared that because I, too, loved this LP.
@@brianbullwinkle4931 Agree... King was a great album!
Belly is touring! It's February of 2016, and this is happening!
They just played down the street here in San Francisco tonight. People thought her voice still sounds pretty good....amazing to tour again after all this time.
@ altrent27 this song's for people that love music. period. we loved them when it first came out; we still do. we've never liked stridence or kneejerking. enjoy it. relax.
this sir is my fav youtube comment for the week!!
This was perfect.
It feels wrong....but "Autopsy Tanya" looks SMOKIN' HOT!
So awesome
only three comments! it's amazing where belly went with their second album, King. This is like Feed the Tree amplified by 1000.
Great Tune
shes closing the door!
Can't beat chicks with guitars! To be fair you can't beat anyone with guitars. You'd be arrested.
Mark Ashworth LOL!!...That made my day.
Ian Israel me too
GREAT FRKN SONG!!!
I am falling hard for this band
Anyone remember the band Jellyfish? Now that was a huge upset when that band ended...
I wish she would make more music
get "slow dust" as well... its the ep that started it all :)
am I the only one who loves Tanya's shirt?! and I am a guy. hehe
I fucking love this song. 9 people have no fucking taste. Somewhere, I don't know where, I have my promotional dice for this album that are weighted so that whenever you throw them, they always come up "Belly" and "King". I need to find those!
I LUV U!

Saw them at Street Scene in San Diego when I was a teen. Had PTSD and used to hit my head against walls
tonya is smoking hot
It's not a Road it's and Island!
@bobo5467 I agree, King is equally good if not better!
No MTV sucked... All they ever show, play or have on there when they had actual MUSIC on there was coloured people music. It seem's that's all they will play. Just like radio
Muses, was her sister!
mRS tANYA dONNELLY!
One person is disconnected.
I heard that guy that was stung by the jellyfish died
I'd give my defective left arm for a copy of King... actually it's not that defective, i can still use it to close doors, but I might kill a bee for a copy of King
i never believe sue storm aka invisible woman is a rock vocalist and rhythm guitarist
This would have done well in the 90s, but in 2005? No way.
Actually this song is from 1995
du er så smuk
This is like the 90s version of Spinal Tap. They have every cliche indie rock gimmick going...
Except Belly doesn't suck.
I'd take that any day, over the poor excuse that it has become in the last decade. Bunch of non-related shows on a music channel. Brilliant idea--not! It's like airing shows about aliens and UFOs on The History Channel... oh, wait.
problem was King was a flop :(
