Miles saying "I'm going home" works better for the movie because it's tricking the audience even more before the big plot twist. Also I really love Spot's delivery on "ah what the heck" version, but I completely understand why they changed it.
Spot doesn't care about other people. It's all about him, what happened to him, and people laughing at him. He worked for a crime-lord that created a portal to other universes, and threatened to break all of reality. He brought the spider into his world, but doesn't want to take responsibility for it or what happened to himself.
I’m putting it out there that I think it’d be a nice twist for Miles to save his dad only for him to willingly and knowingly sacrifice himself to save someone else, teaching Miles that with great responsibility etc etc.
I actually want to his dad to die as prophesied, but as a reflection of Gwen's Peter when he said "Everything is going to okay." The whole unable to control everything in the universe and still try make peace with it.
@@zzirfamo24 You misread their post. He said he wants the dad to sacrifice himself to save someone else AFTER miles saves him so that he learns the responsibility of the position he's in.
Ben Reilly's line about well defined musculature was also in the theatrical version. I watched it in theaters a day after release and it had that same line
That's because this isn't an alternate cut. Sony distributed multiple versions of the film to theaters. There was no singular and definitive "theatrical" cut. The digital release is just one of few cuts Sony sent out. It's the exact same cut of the film I watched in IMAX five times
As someone who didn't see it in theaters, which I deeply regret, the silence on the bridge was very impactful. Gwen calls out for him and also yells "No!" which is enough to sell the moment.
The biggest change I noticed that no one else seems to have is during that last scene with both versions of Miles and it has to do with the timing for when the song Start a Band begins. In the theatrical version it doesn't begin until the final shot of that scene where Miles mouth is open and he looks terrified but in the digital version the song starts right as Prowler Miles says "Why would I do that?" and closes his fist. It's a very small change but one that immediately stood out to me.
So that is why I remember Miguel’s story differently. When I watched it in theaters, I got the idea that Miguel lost his family and found another world where he had one. But during my rewatch last week, I was so confused when Miguel said that he found a world where he had a family.
Loosing the inner monologue from Miles when he's invisibly stalking Gwen makes sense. Later on (in the tea scene) they basically establish Spider People as being able to hear each other's monologues. Notice Miles in that scene, he's aware he's in that scene! It's a fourth wall scene, and not real, hence why he doesn't stop pouring tea - but he actually looks around and is a little surprised by the scene change.
I saw this movie in theaters about 3-4 times, and a lot of the changes he's pointing out weren't "changes" to me. The dialogue changes (Spot being calm, Miguel saying "a world" instead of "another," and Miles not saying "I'm going home") were the only differences from what I saw in theaters. Anyone else in the same boat here?
I'm certain several of the "digital" version changes (Lyla giving bunny ears, the Spot dialogue, "well-defined musculature") in the theater, it seems like there were multiple versions circulating in theaters. Very much looking forward to the special features for this movie, hoping there will be some discussion of all this!
I was actually a bit confused about Miguel O’Haras story arc and makes more sense that he said “a” instead of “another” bc they spoke about the family from the other world but not from his og one. It’s literally subtle differences like these that make things better for overthinkers such as myself
Not only is this my favourite animated movie ever, it’s my second favourite movie of all time. I haven’t been this stoked by a movie since I was a child. I love everything about it and can’t wait for Beyond.
I don't think these changes were just for the digital release. The Ben Reilly line about his well defined musculature was in the movie when I saw it in the theatre
Another small change I noticed upon rewatching, is that in the theatrical version, when Miles is swinging “home” towards the end of the movie, and everyone’s voices are playing over in his head, the “if you hadn’t been bit, your Peter Parker would’ve lived” line that was said by Miguel earlier on the train, is actually a different recording, which is said in a more sad/defeated tone, possibly to reflect Miles’ feelings of failure and betrayal. However in the digital version, the line is the exact same as it was in the train chase scene.
That's not hair on Earth-42 Miles' face, that's just an artistic choice to emphasize shading. They added it to his ears as well and that's obviously not hair in his ears (those same shading lines are added to his chin and neck). It's the same reason for the more pronounced outlines on his face: they have the same facial features (like 1610 Peter Parker and Peter B. Parker), it's just the treatment makes Prowler-Miles appear more harsh and SpiderMan-Miles softer.
it’s weird. some of the digital changes were actually in one of the theatrical releases. my showing had both the little hobie text and the blue text and the fist bump
there was two versions that was sent to theaters. The animators and producers said that multiple versions in a way (just small changes). The one that came out on DVD/Digital is canon.
I just watched this last night and noticed several of these changes and then here is your video to confirm that I’m not crazy! I saw both versions in theaters and I like that the digital is a little different too. The day one release I think was my favorite and then some of the digital release changes I enjoy too. Like earth 42 morales looking more mature. Thanks for this!
The animators and producers came out and said that two versions of the movie went out to different theatres across the US. Nothing changes the story of the film. But small visual changes; because it's about a multiverse, so each movie is slightly different in it's own multiverse.
Only two versions were out in theaters and now this one. They aren’t different because of “the multiverse”. They are different because Phil Lord and Chris Miller couldn’t decide what they wanted to keep or not throughout production of the whole film, making animators work much longer than they would’ve needed if they were clearer beforehand. The movie was perfect, and then they messed it up by changing details that while might seem inconsequential, but affect how we perceive and interpret media. These are just a few, I’m sure there is more. The movie is still great, the animators, writers, actors, directors and yes, Phil and Chris did an amazing job, but this cut just worsens the movie as whole.
That’s not how the multiverse works. There was a multiverse, and Kang from the MCU rebooted everything, Loki and Sylvie killed him and let the Multiverse come back into being There aren’t multiple versions of this movie happening, there is only 1 Miles Morales 1610, and there is only 1 spider society. Remember Doctor Strange 2? There are an infinite number of Wandas in the multiverse, but there is only ONE Scarlet Witch in the current multiverse. Multiversal figures like that Wanda and this Miles don’t have copies
I also found another change: When he meets spot and gets hit with his own web he says "this job is so dumb sometimes". In the Digital version they removed this. Who knows why
Actually, lots of these changes were in the theatrical cut. I saw it opening night and it had the alternate Ben Reilly line, bunny filter and "I'm going home" line.
I just happen to seen the movie again in theaters yetersday since my showing of Oppenheimer got canceled and all the changes you guys are mentioning was in the showing I saw yesterday

This is probably my favorite New Rockstars video, this movies crazy good, and it’s so crazy to see some of the changes Erik pointed out, bc I saw some of the digital changes in theatre, so it just makes me think that they put together a bunch of different edited versions of the movie and just released them wherever! So awesome to see all the changes pointed out! KEEP BEING ROCKSTARS
That's actually exactly what happened. Sony sent multiple versions of the film out to different theaters, and they all had tiny variations between jokes, visual gags, and elements. The version that dropped in the digital release happens to be the exact same version of the film I saw five times in IMAX
For me the go to helvetica part was always on screen in full, the well defined musculature part was in the theatrical and in the digital I watched the “im going home” line is intact
None of the changes to the digital version are better then the original theatrical version. The movie also seemed to drag a lot longer for some reason, i've watched it dozens of times and never felt the run time until now. So for me, i hope they make the physical copy of the original available over the digital
Some changes I’m ok with, others just no. But my biggest pet peeve is the digital version doesn’t have the theatrical version too. It only has the 1 digital version. It makes the theatrical version lost media which I think is stupid. And this whole thing makes me feel bad for the workers as they’re drastically overworked to do these multiple versions. The audio changes might be why the film had audio problems to begin with
Also on earth 42 miles that’s not hair over his head. Those are actually hatching lines. Which is an inning style in comics. It’s to further have parallels between the 2 miles. Our miles is usually shaded with the dots a more old school classic style of shading. And earth 42 miles is shaded with the hatching line a fare more intense style of shading.
I like Miles realization because it shows his intelligence and how fast he is to adapt to his surroundings of what’s happening. Shows he’s very intelligent and very quick to adapt to the situation.
I feel like the version I saw in theaters is closer to this digital release rather one than the one you are describing. Like I vividly remember the joke about Ben’s well defined musculature
Something I noticed around the end of the movie is that earth 42 Jameson says “if there was a masked vigilante, we at the daily bugle would support them wholeheartedly” or something like that
I watched it in theaters twice so it was easier for me to notice a few differences. But I only noticed that Prowler Miles' face was different and that Miles saying "i'm in the wrong universe was removed" but that one was a bit harder to notice and I only subconsciously felt like something was off about the scene.
I saw it twice in theaters. Both times we had the version of the "well-defined musculature" in both showings, though. Also, we had the AI taking the selfie both times.
For the gwen diolouge, I think they wanted us to feel more of what gwen was feeling like "oh no is he dead" with the silence. But it doesnt rlly work because we know miles isnt dead theres still half a movie left
Wouldn't be surprised if they drop another version that's a "Director's Cut" or "Definitive Edition" that has both this cut and the theatrical, or all known versions
That digital version was in theaters too. They should just release both versions of the film for the official home releases like what happened with films that have multiple versions (e.g. Clue, Disney's version of Beauty an the Beast, etc.)
A lot of these changes were the version I saw in theatres, specifically Ben’s “well defined musculature” line. I laughed so hard at that in the theatre lmao
Half the changes you mentioned I saw in the theater. I’m like four minutes into the video now and the only one I didn’t see in the theater was the bunny ear filter. Worth mentioning I saw the movie three times in theater lmao
@datboi8921 nah, an animator said that they havent done anything for beyond and hailee steinfeld said that they havent record a single line for beyond the spiderverse
The digital version is the version I saw in the Threatres when it first came out. I live in the UK. Maybe each region had their own version. I'm 100% sure that every difference in the digital version was in the theatrical verison I first saw
Nice to know this. I'm afraid I was robbed by the experience of not watching the original theatrical cut of Across the Spider-verse when if I watched it first on digital copy.
The version I saw in Canada had most if not all the changes that are a part of the digital version. I saw it twice in theatres at two different theatres, although both seemed to be the same movie. I feel like one or both of the digital version changes in Earth 42 were different than what I saw in the theatre, though. I feel pretty confident that there was no Miguel O'Hara voice saying that the spider wasn't from his dimension, and I'm 50/50 on which visual I saw of earth 42 Miles. I also feel like there weren't punk vocals accompanying Hobie's entrance, and I thought Gwen said "no no no no" after the bridge/building collapse scene, except that's the strongly implied emotion even without dialogue, so I'm not sure.

5:01 or it could also be a technical change. They put it in yellow before because the bg is blue and yellow (its complementary color) would pop against it. But maybe decided against that decision as it probably takes the focus out of miles reaction and maybe a tad bit distracting. Sometimes you make decisions that are best for the scene and none are particularly wrong.
I don't think these are changes per se, but more like they went with one of the theatrical versions (since there were two). I remember the bunny selfie in theaters, and don't remember Miles saying "I'm going home".

I'm not crazy about changing a movie between theatrical and home releases. It makes it seem like the theatrical release is a half-baked cookie, and the digital release is the true, finished product, and that isn't necessarily the best motivation to buy a movie ticket...
Both versions were in theaters at the same time. But I completely understand where you're coming from. Hopefully they'll do what another film that had multiple theatrical releases do. The comedy/mystery movie Clue starring Tim Curry had three completely different endings, all of which had a different criminal who committed the movie's crime for different motivations. That was part of the movie's gimmick. But when it came time for the movie to be released for home releases, they always included all three versions on the home release. What I'm getting at is, I'm hoping both versions of the movie make it to the Blu-Ray once September rolls around. I'd be really sad otherwise. I saw the "digital" one when I was at the theaters. I want to see the other one too.
Gonna be honest, I saw this film twice in theatres and I seem to remember a lot of these small detail in the theatrical version including the Gwen no talk scene. Would have liked it if you were able to watch both versions though.
Most of these "digital version" scenes were in the theactrical version I saw. I saw the movie 3 times in theater, 2 showings were identical, but the other definitely had a few different scenes. I wonder how many versions there actually is.

I’m putting it out there that I think it’d be a nice twist for Miles to save his dad only for him to willingly and knowingly sacrifice himself to save someone else, teaching Miles that with great responsibility etc etc.
That would also teach him (us) to make the decision he thinks is right but accept things you can't change
I actually want to his dad to die as prophesied, but as a reflection of Gwen's Peter when he said "Everything is going to okay." The whole unable to control everything in the universe and still try make peace with it.
Yea don’t ever speak again. You just want miles to die
@@zzirfamo24 You misread their post. He said he wants the dad to sacrifice himself to save someone else AFTER miles saves him so that he learns the responsibility of the position he's in.
They seek to be setting up a finale where they overturn the Canon tho. So idk where that will go
Ben Reilly's line about well defined musculature was also in the theatrical version. I watched it in theaters a day after release and it had that same line
I watched the movie a day before it ''officially'' released and remember that line as well
That's because this isn't an alternate cut. Sony distributed multiple versions of the film to theaters. There was no singular and definitive "theatrical" cut. The digital release is just one of few cuts Sony sent out. It's the exact same cut of the film I watched in IMAX five times
@@PeytonToenjesoop same….
As someone who didn't see it in theaters, which I deeply regret, the silence on the bridge was very impactful. Gwen calls out for him and also yells "No!" which is enough to sell the moment.
The original was better and more in character imo
Ya, I have no idea why they did that.
@@VictoryReviews both are "original", both were released in theaters

Did he say he lost his family, or is it only implied by saying he found another world where he had a family?
A few of the differences were just the second version in theaters
Yes. I think the digital version is the version I saw in theaters twice.
So much detail here. Love his film and Can't wait for Beyond The Spider-Verse.
Not only is this my favourite animated movie ever, it’s my second favourite movie of all time. I haven’t been this stoked by a movie since I was a child. I love everything about it and can’t wait for Beyond.

@@samuelperezgarcia The Matrix.
I don't think these changes were just for the digital release. The Ben Reilly line about his well defined musculature was in the movie when I saw it in the theatre
Same i remember hearing it
I hope at some point we get the ability to choose between all the different versions (Theater A, Theater B, Digital, etc.)
I need the theatrical version ASAP
Plot twist: He actually does have hair growing out of his ears.
Mhm

it’s weird. some of the digital changes were actually in one of the theatrical releases. my showing had both the little hobie text and the blue text and the fist bump

@@jonfoolerythat's what I'm thinking whenever people comment that they saw both versions' changes in their theater
Yeah
the loss of the theatrical versions was a canon event
Lol
The story doesn't change but the impact and emotion of some scenes do ...and thats disappointing.
That’s not how the multiverse works. There was a multiverse, and Kang from the MCU rebooted everything, Loki and Sylvie killed him and let the Multiverse come back into being
There aren’t multiple versions of this movie happening, there is only 1 Miles Morales 1610, and there is only 1 spider society.
Same here
I just happen to seen the movie again in theaters yetersday since my showing of Oppenheimer got canceled and all the changes you guys are mentioning was in the showing I saw yesterday

Exactly my thoughts
This channel inspires me, my parents said if I get 15k followers They'd buy me a better camera for recording.. begging u guys... literally begging
Maybe the movie seemed longer because you've seen it dozens of times lol
@KrisMadas I only saw it twice and it still feels really long on digital
Agreed. The theatrical version was better.
The audio changes might be why the film had audio problems to begin with
Miles remembering what Miguel said when he realizes he’s in the wrong universe was a genius move
I like the "Im going home." line. Wish they had kept that in.
One of my favorite details was the "What?!" text box when Miles was invisible. It gave the dialogue so much more impact. Sad they removed it :(
8:25 I actually really like this change, because it makes his little mini speech to Miguel a good cold ending
8:20 I just spit out my water I wasn’t expecting that💀💀💀
Frr i fuckin burst out laughing 😭😭💀
Unpopular opinion but I'm glad "I'm going home" was taken out. "Imma do my own thing" is such a good line on its own.
There are two “theatrical” versions of the movie. One was used to record the digital
Same
Something I noticed around the end of the movie is that earth 42 Jameson says “if there was a masked vigilante, we at the daily bugle would support them wholeheartedly” or something like that
Removing the part where Miles realizing he's in the wrong dimension was a bad choice
Yeah same
The version I saw in theaters three times had Lyla taking the selfie with Miguel in all of them.
I like that there are different versions.

For the gwen diolouge, I think they wanted us to feel more of what gwen was feeling like "oh no is he dead" with the silence. But it doesnt rlly work because we know miles isnt dead theres still half a movie left
This is just the 2 different versions. There were 2 different versions in theaters, they just choose one to put to digital.
Wouldn't be surprised if they drop another version that's a "Director's Cut" or "Definitive Edition" that has both this cut and the theatrical, or all known versions
8:20 got me 😂
They didn't need to make digital version since technical version is just fine
That digital version was in theaters too. They should just release both versions of the film for the official home releases like what happened with films that have multiple versions (e.g. Clue, Disney's version of Beauty an the Beast, etc.)
Didn't mentioned one thing. They removed Home by metro boomin while miles was running back to his home( alternate)

I also feel like there weren't punk vocals accompanying Hobie's entrance, and I thought Gwen said "no no no no" after the bridge/building collapse scene, except that's the strongly implied emotion even without dialogue, so I'm not sure.
in my theatrical version all of the digital events took place

5:01 or it could also be a technical change. They put it in yellow before because the bg is blue and yellow (its complementary color) would pop against it. But maybe decided against that decision as it probably takes the focus out of miles reaction and maybe a tad bit distracting. Sometimes you make decisions that are best for the scene and none are particularly wrong.
I feel like universe 42 is one of those edgy highly shaded comic worlds and now Miles G. Morales is more in line with the style of his universe
I don't think these are changes per se, but more like they went with one of the theatrical versions (since there were two). I remember the bunny selfie in theaters, and don't remember Miles saying "I'm going home".

There were multiple theatrical versions released. The version I saw in theaters had a lot of the changes seen in this digital release.
The first one you said is actually i seen in theater. Because they release two types of movies in theaters.
All the more reason to own the Blu-ray version! Glad I grabbed mine just today!
9:28 that isn’t hair, it’s a shadow
Gonna be honest, I saw this film twice in theatres and I seem to remember a lot of these small detail in the theatrical version including the Gwen no talk scene. Would have liked it if you were able to watch both versions though.
Most of these "digital version" scenes were in the theactrical version I saw. I saw the movie 3 times in theater, 2 showings were identical, but the other definitely had a few different scenes. I wonder how many versions there actually is.
the song used for hobie's intro is cerebral ballzy - on the run :)
Hmm, he says theatical version and digital version but some of the "changes" he claims that are in the digital version were shown in the version I've seen. There were 2 versions in theaters, they just put two versions together to make 1 version.

I’ve watched the two different cuts of ATSV and Thomas and the Magic Railroad and turns out they both had the same behind the scenes nightmare that went through so many drastic changes
