Detroit Lake gets very strong gusts where it opens up in the central part of the lake. I usually carry full sail unless the pressure builds to above 20kts, then I just take in some jib. If I were on open waters I would reef the mains'l especially when single handing, as I have on San Francisco Bay. This video shows how quickly a strong gust can press us into quick action on the main sheet!!! We usually sail in 20-25kt winds where the lake pressure is most intense. Makes for fast tacking and great runs back down wind to the marina. Cheers!!!

@@sailingsvtriplet9109 I just bought a F27 last October, I cant wait for our season to start here, we only sail Lake Erie and a smaller lake in summer times!
