I love Yoko too!! Very avant-garde!! Can't stand the Beatles...they were a glorified Boy Band. The Backstreet Boys of their time. And their fans said many racist things about Yoko back then 😡
Art-pop, avant-pop. This was the last song John Lennon worked on before his untimely death. I was too young to appreciate the song back then or what Yoko Ono brought to it. Today the funky riff reminds me of "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band while the vocals remind me of "Money (That's What I Want)" by The Flying Lizards.
I’m kinda obsessed with Lennon and Ono ever since I saw the new Get Back Beatles doc. I was really young when Lennon was assassinated, only about 10. I didn’t even realize she was there when he was shot. How horrible. I get she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think she was unfairly accused of breaking up the Beatles, much of which I think was rooted in misogyny and racism, to be honest . There were lots of factors leading up to it. No band stays together forever.
❄️ Yoko was already an accomplished contemporary and performance artist when she met John Lennon in the late 60s. She was also making sound sculpture work that might loosely be called music, and songs that were more recognizable as songs too. Coming from an Avant Garde background where challenging preconception is more important than creating recognisable beauty, her way into making music was fascinating. It’s been said by many key musicians, as well as experimental music makers, that Yoko is an incredibly important figure, and that without her early 70s work, movements like punk and grunge music might not have developed. Sometimes it takes an artist with the courage to challenge with work that could be perceived as ugly, to open the way for new creative directions for themselves and others. It’s that tension in creativity between destruction and creation. Think of that annoyance to your ear of the repetitive sound as something designed to fire new directions, new expectations, for what we listen to. If someone came forward in time from the 1800s and heard examples of modern pop, they’d find some recognizable elements, but it would take them weeks before they got used to what they’d probably perceive as an overly dense ugly jumble of sounds. Yoko’s music was as much about questioning art as it was about making it.
@@EmpressReacts Yep. Just choosing divergent creative paths and combining things in strange ways, as well as inserting noise to question why one thing is “music” while another is just “sound”.
Yoko was always WILD AF and I love her for that. This song is TAME for her..most of her stuff is just insane. She's the OG of the Avant Garde category.....def not for everybody.
She’s an avant garde artist. Always was even before John. I hated her as a kid. I get it now. Everything isn’t made for charts and radio. She’s a trip.
Perhaps you don't know that they day they recorded this, they were just comng home from the studio when Mark Chapman shot John Lennon on the doorstep of their apartment building. This is a lovesong, and it's very sad.
Wish you hadn't mentioned the poor excuse of a human being who murdered John, you are giving him the notoriety he wanted by killing John. Beatles fans never give him that satisfaction by mentioning his name.
@@patticrichton1135 But I’m not a Beatles fan, sorry. The event happened and the facts are out there. Pretending and canceling doesn’t alter reality at all, in spite of your efforts.
Oh No Yoko was always screwing things up. Check out this video of 2 legends, John Lennon and Chuck Berry and she butts in at 1:56 ua-cam.com/video/ZbGuxGGOIV0/v-deo.html
She was a respected artist, and performance artist long before she and John were a thing. She's making art and not (thank God) some kind of Mariah Carey radio-friendly crap. The more I hear of hers, the more I love it. And her music lends itself to some pretty spectacular remixes. But each to his own. I also listen to Diamanda Galas, Divine, Patsy Cline and Billie Holliday, so I'm not just Into weird voices.
LOVE Yoko! Have all her albums. Great experimental melodies etc. always an adventure!
Interesting ‼️ 🤣

I adore Yoko and also have everything love Madonna as well. I think Yoko is a gay icon
I love Yoko. Her and John recorded this, went home and John got shot and killed. It makes the song super creepy.
Empress: "she needs to do something to kinda change it up"
Yoko: proceeds to shriek
I died! 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
John played guitar on this; his last recording.....which abracadabra sampled.......
I wanna hear Bjork do this song
This has a kick-ass track but I’ve been trying for 40 years to warm up to Yoko’s vocal. I just CANT
😂

Good points… now that you mention it I can totally hear it
@@EmpressReacts He was working on this song the night he died. He was actually carrying the master tape of this song when he was shot.
This song was recorded a few hours before John Lennon was murdered
It was the last song he evar worked on
Never thought I'd see a reaction!! I love the song!!
I just love this banger so much
Your face expression is priceless

Wow interesting ‼️I don't know much about them
I never liked Yoko Ono as a singer. I respect her as an “artist” and John’s companion… but auuuuugh her music sucked. Nails on a chalkboard.
I only know the Danny Tenagila Club Mix of this song from the QAF soundtrack

Exactly the reaction I’d hoped for! 😂
🤣🤣so messed up
I adore this track. But yea, its for everyone. Its cookie.
You should have done “Woman” or “Just Like Starting Over” from this album. Two all time classics. “Watching the Wheels” is nice also.
Right?! 😘
Many of the patreons’ choices are ODD. Many pick, non-bops, deep cuts that aren’t that good. A waste of Empress’ time! lol 🙄🙏🏻
No, this is by far the most interesting thing that came out of the Double Fantasy sessions
I edited this album by removing any trace of Yoko and I call it Single Fantasy. "Interesting" is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. ✌
If you want to pick something else, become a patron and request it yourself.

Huge Beatles fan, adore John Lennon's music. . . absolutely despise Yoko Ono's music. I would rather listen to cats in heat.
One of the greatest records ever.
First time hearing this also… 💤
🤣🤣
I think there's a club version that may be better than this, but make no mistake she doesn't have a great voice.

Yoko's singing is radioactive, and not in a good way. ☢☢☢
