hello really good documentary ! it's incredible how the French were able to bring together all the skills necessary for such a restoration... they carried out absolutely gigantic studies, went to cut stones in the same mines where they had been taken during its construction 1000 years ago! they studied and reproduced the same cements, the same pigments, the same glues, the same woods...and even the lead castings were carried out as they were 1000 years ago! the frame has been reproduced identically with absolutely incredible attention to detail. The stained glass windows having all been saved have been restored using very high technology methods.....it is impossible to imagine as a whole the difficulties of the task, it is just incredible the amount of talent, intelligence and ancestral know-how that had to be brought together here. it's a timeless accomplishment...congratulations to them, their efforts will last for centuries and probably for millennia to come. On the other hand, I am sorry for the Pope's decisions....he will not go to the opening ceremony, it is a great sadness to note that the Popes, for 40 years, have done nothing to support the Christianity in the world....they are just absent, it's sad. It is simply disastrous in the defense of Christian identity.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely right about the incredible amount of skill and expertise that went into the restoration-everything from the careful selection of oak trees to match the original frame to the high-tech methods used to restore the stained glass windows. The attention to detail has been extraordinary, with craftsmen and experts from all over France working together to honor the cathedral’s history. We’re really glad you enjoyed the documentary!
That’s amazing that you got to see Notre Dame back in 1985! Hopefully, you'll get to see it again once the restoration is finished. With the reopening planned for December 2024, you might be able to cross it off your bucket list soon! Fingers crossed for you!
It's funny how only people who know nothing about cathedrals call Notre Dame 'beautiful'! Compared to Rheims or Chartres or Cologne or Salisbury, the exterior of ND is -- actually -- very bulky, squat and - let's face it - quite ugly! In NO WAY does that detract from its historical importance, the incredible design of its flying buttresses at the rear, and the stunning beauty of its INTERIOR! The French have done a remarkable job to finish the repairs on time -- particularly as the international nightmare of Covid intervened!!!
Absolutely! Andrew Tallon’s 3D laser scans of Notre Dame have been a game-changer for the restoration. His work provided an incredibly detailed digital blueprint of the cathedral, which has been invaluable in rebuilding it as accurately as possible. Truly amazing foresight on his part!
Thanks for your comment! Actually, the original stained-glass windows, including the famous Rose Windows, survived the fire and didn’t get lost, which is pretty remarkable! There was some debate about replacing them with modern designs, but thankfully, they decided to keep the original ones and restore them with great care. It’s amazing how much history has been preserved!
I never found Notre Dame to be a particularly impressive structure. I was really hoping they would tear it down and build a self storage facility on the site.
After the fire, there were reports that some workers admitted to smoking on-site, which did lead to some speculation. However, investigators haven’t confirmed if smoking directly caused the fire. The leading theory points more to an electrical malfunction, but the exact cause is still uncertain. Hopefully, lessons have been learned for future projects!
You lost me in the first 20 seconds with “… watched in horror the i Indic Notre-Dame Cathedral fall…reduced to smoldering ruins….” That’s not what happened. The cathedral was actually saved being reduced to ashes, despite the total loss of the roof and spire.
The phrase “reduced to smoldering ruins” might have been a bit too dramatic :) While the roof and spire were lost in the fire, the cathedral itself was saved, largely thanks to the stone vaulted ceiling, which helped contain the flames and prevent further destruction.
probably AI generated text. not sure about the voice though, it sounds real but many youtubers use AI voices that are obviously fake. i'm wondering about the channel response too cause it kinda sounds like when i ask bing AI stuff and get perfectly crafted answers. sorry if i'm wrong but you can't trust anything anymore
December 8th is celebrated in the Catholic Church as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and the Cathedral is dedicated to Mary (Notre Dame is literally "Our Lady"). My guess is that they want Immaculate Conception to be a big day in Paris this year.
@@liamskopal7516 Thanks, I grew up in very Catholic Quebec but went to a protestant school and church. By the time I started High school all the English students went to the same school no matter what religion they held.
What are you whining about? The last 8 years have been nothing but a non-stop publicity parade for one meddlesome orange man-baby who’s entire presidency, and current candidacy for President, continue to be a nothing but a shitty overpriced publicity stunt, paid for entirely by tax payers and people gullible enough to give him money. If you can’t handle having his current political rival show up on your radar in the height of the campaign, you’re an even bigger snowflake than I would expect of the average tRump supporter.
With the clock ticking toward the December 8th deadline (announced reopening date), do you think they will finish in time?
Yes all has been done to finish the end project just before december 2024 .
Replacing the windows with modern designs would have been lunacy.

it's a divine structure. it deserves the absolute best we have to offer
I saw the Cathedral in June 1985. It is on my bucket list to see it again before I die. I am 64 now.

As long as it is finished and back to full order the time line is not important.

Hats off to Andrew Tallon, the man who created the 3D Photographs of Notre Dame before the fire.

Well done France. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m glad the kept the original window design that got lost…

I donated $100.00 back in April 2019, but I’m pretty sure they spent it all on trying to get me to donate more.
I never found Notre Dame to be a particularly impressive structure. I was really hoping they would tear it down and build a self storage facility on the site.
Or a shopping mall.
Will we ever know the truth of the fire, I read an article that a well respected engineer does not agree with the published account of cause.
I hope all goes well. However, the restoration passed up a great opportunity to improve the structure with new construction methods and materials.
The flying buttresses seem so delicate. Hope they don’t collapse
I Hope So!
Nice video despite 2 of the pictures were not Notre Dame de Paris
Thanks for pointing that out, and I’m glad you liked the video! We’ll double-check the images for accuracy in future videos. Appreciate the heads-up!
lol
I hope so. A contractor who smoked on a job. It’s strictly forbidden!
After the fire, there were reports that some workers admitted to smoking on-site, which did lead to some speculation. However, investigators haven’t confirmed if smoking directly caused the fire. the french love to smoke, lol. but yea it's a huge tragedy
11:25 This is not Notre Dame de Paris!!!
For goodness sake how about some authentic visuals

Fake project not selected actually .
In time for what? The summer Olympics? That date has already passed.
If you had read the title of the video or listened to the narration you would know what time deadline.
The Olympic were never the deadline for reopening.

The image of the Cathedral @10:36 is not Notre Dame de Paris, it is Notre Dame de Strasbourg. Embarrassing 😅
