HL2 - Unused Alyx Animation

Note: the final scene that shows actual Alyx doing the animation is actually a recreation, it's not 100% the same as the animation. I did my best to recreate it pretty closely though.

If you pay attentions to transludent model it's not even the retail model, it looks a lot more like the prior version of Alyx's model, I figure either the 2002 or 2003 variant.

Alyx's idle was used in the e3 2002 video, and shader tests were shown at e3 2003.

@@yesseru yea if you look in source mod folders like gmod and type shadertest you'll see different shaders of beta alyx in that idle. It was used in css.

One thing you didn't mention is that alyx model in shadertest is called Predator.mdl in reference to the movie predator since the model is translucent. the model also uses the early version of alyx in the strange skin-tight jumpsuit

It’s not called predator, they all have weird names like „vertexlitgenericshader“ or something similar. In the CS:S benchmark there is a model called predator.mdl with a very similar look.

I'm glad that Alyx isnt over sexualized in retail. Not that sexy characters are bad ofc, but it just wouldn't fit into Hl2's more grounded and serious tone. Alyx is still cute, and she clearly like to show off a bit with her exposed midriff, but she looks normal, like someone you could see on the street.

Sexy characters are usually bad because they tend to reflect their creators' lust. You rarely would've found a woman in regular clothing portrayed in video games back in the 00s.
