"Lucia how could you possibly dare do anything but throw pure hate at the cinematic mod? The mere thought of positivity in my head in a time span of about 30 minutes before and after hearing the words "cinematic mod" spewed out of anyone daring enough's mouth makes me want to puke. are you kidding me right now? you actually have the audacity to talk positively about that abomination known as the "Cinematic Mod 2013"? I mean, seriously, what kind of twisted, delusional world are you living in? This mod is an absolute travesty, a complete affront to everything that is good and pure in the world of gaming. Let me tell you, my friend, if you think the Cinematic Mod 2013 is a masterpiece, then I have some prime real estate on the moon to sell you. This mod is like a fever dream gone horribly wrong. It takes the beloved Half-Life 2 and turns it into some sort of bizarre, twisted monstrosity that would make Salvador Dali scratch his head in confusing.I mean, come on! Have you seen what they did to the character models? They're like plastic dolls on steroids, with overinflated lips and absurdly proportioned assets. It's like someone took a bad fanfiction and turned it into a video game mod. I can't even begin to comprehend how anyone could find this appealing. And let's not even get started on the so-called "cinematic" changes. Oh, sure, let's just slap some overly saturated colors and unnecessary lens flares on everything and call it an improvement. It's like watching a Michael Bay film on acid. The whole thing is an assault on the senses, a visual cacophony that would make even the most hardened gamer weep in despair. But you know what's even worse? The fact that people actually praise this abomination. It's like they've lost all sense of reality and decided to embrace the madness. I've seen people claim that the Cinematic Mod 2013 is the pinnacle of artistic expression, that it elevates Half-Life 2 to a whole new level. I mean, seriously? Have these people lost their minds? It's like saying that painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa improves the original. It's like claiming that covering Beethoven's symphonies with dubstep beats makes them better. It's madness, pure and simple. So, excuse me if I can't share your enthusiasm for this abomination. While you may be lost in a delusional world where the Cinematic Mod 2013 is some sort of gaming masterpiece, I'll be over here, enjoying the original Half-Life 2 in all its unadulterated glory. It's like you've lost touch with reality and fallen into a pit of delusion. Let me tell you, my friend, the Cinematic Mod 2013 is a disaster wrapped in a train wreck. It takes the beloved Half-Life 2 and twists it into something unrecognizable. The character models alone are a nightmare. They look like someone took a bad Photoshop job and plastered it onto the game. It's as if they were trying to create a parody of the original game, but failed miserably. And let's not even get started on the so-called "cinematic" changes. They're like cheap Hollywood knockoffs of actual cinematic experiences. The over-saturated colors and unnecessary lens flares are like a bad Instagram filter gone wrong. It's like someone tried to make the game look like a bad B-movie, and succeeded. But you know what's even worse? The fact some people actually try to defend this mess. They claim that the Cinematic Mod 2013 adds depth and immersion to the game. Depth and immersion? Are they kidding? It's like saying slapping a clown nose on the Mona Lisa makes it more expressive. It's absurd! So sorry if I can't share your enthusiasm for this travesty. While you may think the Cinematic Mod 2013 has some redeeming qualities, I'll be over here, shaking my head in disbelief and sticking to the original Half-Life 2, where the characters look like actual humans and the cinematic experience isn't a cringe-inducing mess. Oh, no, no, NO! How dare you utter a single word of mild praise for that despicable abomination known as the "Cinematic Mod 2013"! It's as if you've stumbled into the deepest depths of insanity, where reason and logic have abandoned you completely. Listen to me, you misguided soul! The Cinematic Mod 2013 is a curse upon the gaming world, a festering wound that refuses to heal. It's like a mutated beast that devours your sanity, leaving only delusion and madness in its wake. I've spent countless sleepless nights, haunted by the horrors of this mod, its twisted existence etched into my very soul. Let me paint you a picture, a deranged portrait of the nightmares this mod conjures. Imagine taking the timeless beauty of the Sistine Chapel and replacing Michelangelo's masterpieces with garish, neon graffiti. Picture Beethoven's symphonies transformed into a cacophony of screeching cats and blaring car horns. That's the level of sacrilege we're talking about here. The character models in the Cinematic Mod 2013 are an affront to the gods of aesthetics. They're like grotesque caricatures, as if a deranged child tried to sculpt faces out of melting Play-Doh. I swear, looking at them for too long feels like staring into the abyss, where the abyss stares back and whispers mad secrets into your ear. And let's not even delve into the so-called "cinematic" changes. Oh, no, my friend, they're more like a cruel parody of what true cinematic experiences should be. It's like taking a Shakespearean play and replacing the poetic language with a nonsensical jumble of alphabet soup. The modders behind this abomination must have made a pact with the devil himself, for only demonic forces could inspire such depravity. But here's the real insanity, my friend. Some misguided souls actually defend this madness. They claim that the Cinematic Mod 2013 is a stroke of genius, a work of art that transcends the very boundaries of reality. They shower praise upon it like a deranged cult, as if they've been brainwashed by some eldritch force from another dimension. It's like a Lovecraftian nightmare come to life, where the sane are driven to madness and the mad revel in their delusions. So, pardon me if I cannot contain my outrage at your feeble attempt to slightly praise this grotesque travesty. While you may have been momentarily bewitched by its seductive lies, I have dedicated my life to unraveling the truth, to exposing the malevolence that lurks beneath the surface. I shall forever stand as a guardian of sanity, resolute in my rejection of the Cinematic Mod 2013, as I bask in the pure brilliance of the unaltered Half-Life 2, where the characters retain the humanity and the cinematic experience is a testament to true artistic vision. Pray, permit me to regale you with the tortured musings that have consumed my very being for these long, arduous years. The Cinematic Mod 2013, good sir, is akin to a deranged carnival of grotesqueries, where the clowns wear the faces of angels and the trapeze artists perform their acrobatics with all the grace of lumbering elephants. It is a cacophony of misshapen proportions, a dance of distortion that would make the great Salvador Dali quiver with perplexity. Imagine, if you will, the delicate strokes of the master artist Van Gogh, his vibrant hue and intricate brushwork transforming a mere canvas into a mesmerizing portal into the realm of the sublime. Now envision someone, in a fit of lunacy, taking a thick brush dipped in garish neon pigments and defiling Van Gogh's masterpieces with chaotic splatters, reducing them to grotesque parodies of their former glory. Such is the sacrilege inflicted upon Half-Life 2 by this heinous mod. And let us not neglect the so-called "cinematic" alterations, for they are naught but a ghastly menagerie of visual debauchery. The modders, it seems, have taken inspiration from the great filmmakers of our age and twisted their noble art into a mockery of itself. It is as if Alfred Hitchhock's suspenseful symphonies have been infiltrated by a cacophony of clattering pots and pans, while Stanley Kubrick's meticulous compositions have been replaced with a dizzying frenzy of disarray. My dear sir, it is with great trepidation that I reveal to you with distressing truth: there exists a sect of misguided souls who, despite possessing faculties supposedly tethered to reason, sing praises to this abomination. They heap adulation upon the Cinematic Mod 2013 as if it were a transcendental revelation, a masterpiece to rival the works of the great playright Shakespeare or the poet Wordsworth. It is a bewildering spectacle, reminiscent of a carnival sideshow where the feeble-minded flock to witness absurdities that defy compprehension. Thus, I beseech you, good sir, to pardon my passionate outburst at your feeble attempt to express even the slightest admiration for this execrable creation. While you may have been momentarily beguiled by its deceitful charms, I have devoted my existence to unmasking its malevolence, to championing the purity and unadulterated brilliance of the unaltered Half-Life 2. I shall remain steadfast in my resistance against the seductive allure of the Cinematic Mod 2013, cherishing the game in its original form, wherein the characters retain their humanity and the cinematic experience remains a testament to" This is as far as I could get until it was unreadable due to the subtitles, sorry!
My friend has modded the fuck out cinematic mod, she removed most of the nsfw stuff in it. Overall revamped it, and is now working on new maps for it. Honestly I'm surprised more devs aren't modifying cinematic mod as my friend did. Because it's just impressive what my friend has done. Though she will never release it due to it's high file size and it being a personal project of hers.
Both all indie/AA games (across most platforms) and some AAA-looking games (mostly mobile) only had 5~10+ GB just for optimization be like: Where's OPTIMIZATION? 🗿
But it is optional though. Before you launch the game, menu pops up that lets you choose the models and you can just choose default models. That's what I did and Cinematic Mod felt pretty damn good to me.
@@smeggiamagarwine overly sexual graffities are something that does exist in a real world and they kind of fit seeing how characters are located somewhere in poor part of eastern europe. I agree that just like with models there has to be an option to keep them off but when I played I didn't really notice them at all.
The obscene graffity where actually one of the most realistic things of the mod to me. There are no human cities without them. And there is always a friend that signals you every single one of those things when you just take a walk and talk about things.
Four months late, but I also have to add that if I wanted to draw lewd graffiti, why not a place that is very open but also not enforced, like the areas we see with the airboat chapter
And I remember hearing of a Lego game or something where they had a program that stopped people from building dicks yet people still did just made them very weird so the program would break
Heck if you go to Pompeii, there is plenty of obscene graffiti left by Romans, from bars to bathrooms to frequently traveled roads. It’s literally just human (or Roman) nature lmao.
Calling it a “Hollywood-retelling” is actually incredibly accurate. Actors that look almost nothing like the people they represent, overly-sexual themes, and obscene filters and effects.
literally what i was thinking the entire time. it's clearly intended to be an over the top "hollywood-retelling" of the game so demanding it not to be that is kinda backwards.
All of the designs were intentional, I've found myself looking through the files, eventually finding voice clips, music, sound effects... including extremely explicit sounds, suggesting you could play through a mechanical reproduction simulation. But the nicest part about it is you can add your own stuff to the mod. I used HLA sounds and models in conjunction with other mods to make it my own personal version, fixed the iron sights (they're not aligned, so I fixed it) switched the weapons, and made it quite satisfying to play. Its by no means the intended way, but putting a bunch of stuff together is very refreshing.
Even the understandably poor reaction hl2 fans had to this mod and its tone also feels on theme with the whole 'hollywood adapting beloved properties but failing to understand their charm' thing
I was thinking the exact same thing all throughout the video. The modmaker clearly wanted the game to look 'better' but had very little idea of what it meant other than other, more recently released games. So he just unknowingly copied the art direction of games that had little to no to do with Half-Life.
I feel like deviating from the original art style was the point though. I think the intention was specifically to be really over the top. I mean the description says it’s trying to more “Hollywood” and in that regard I think it does alright. Minus the overly sexual parts of course.
I don't know about that, the mod seems to follow it's own theme pretty accurately, kind of a Battlefield 3-like blueish urban look. Half-Life 2 levels seem pretty nice actually. Although, yeah, it doesn't line up with the original game that much, but that's what mods are for, aren't they?
Ah yes 2013, when it was controversial for a dev to make a game unnessecarily take up half your hard drive with hundreds of gigs of poorly optimised hd textures. Imagine how messed up it would be if that became the standard practice for almost all AAA games right guys?
Uninstall a game or two dipshit. How are you guys running out of space, do you people just keep half your game library installed at all times? fuckin weirdos
Cinematic Mod: I have the most NSFW content in a mod ever! Please stop, its a joke, (im not complaining about how popular it is, its my most popular comment so im happy)
its really fucking weird the design choices with the full models and graffiti but i don't see it the end of the world to imply that alyx has some quality alone time out of our eyes. she's a human too and infact sexual related topics or relationship related topics to half life have been made by valve but maybe not as heavily.

@@mrfanpl I thought the suppression field disabled a particular protein or similar necessary for conception, not that it simply stopped people being horny?
@@identity__thief Because of disabling that, it does pretty much stop libido entirely judging from how people talk in the game. Doesn't stop love, though.
The wost part is the amount of people here defending this sort of action. There are people here that even say that the creator is a 14 yo, when he created the mod like 10 years Ago. Come on people...

0:04 I do 3d modelling for a living. And like characters in the matrix who can look at matrix code and see what's there, I too can look at wireframes and instantly read what I'm looking at. I knew exactly what that was.
Actually the Graffiti kinda makes sense. I know that the game is not supposed to include NSFW, but such graffiti is seen all across eastern europe. If you go to any abandoned/left over building you are guaranteed to see atleast some kind of pornography. And yes I live in the balkans so I do have experience with such Graffiti. The other part's of the mod such as the dildo could have been placed in a drawer for a funny easter egg but the pylogons thing cannot be defended. So he did not deserve that much hate, since he depicted Eastern Europe like it truly is in some way.
@@ДаниилСтепанов-р1и sorry for replying late. I don't think at that time people had the thinking capacity to defend themselves. At the time the only thing that was "cool" to do so would be to insult someone and make everyone else hate that person aswell

So weird, this mod does look good, and somehow looks cohesive Minus the raunchy graffitis and female models, this is a very interesting and certainly valid graphical reimagining
as a complete outsider of half-life, i look at this mod and i think, alright, odd choices, but it looks pretty cool. so now i've been radicalized and i want to start a first playthrough with this mod installed just to spite the entire half-life community.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POINTING OUT THAT THE GAME TIME IS 15% SLOWER and how to fix it! I've never seen anyone discuss it anywhere, but I have always felt that it's slower, than normal!
It's why I recommend setting your game resolution to 720x480 and setting the max framerate to 24, to make it look like you're playing Half-Life 2 on DVD.
5:10 There is no time skip. When you get out of the miners it's supposed to morning again and the start of day 2. All of the coast levels take place during day 2. It gets dark once you reach nova prospekt because a whole day passed. HL2 maps are prefixed with d1 d2 and d3.
Yes, i got that right, but it's still strange to see - how original sections of HL2 - in nights - are shorter, then a Day sections. So here atleast - still(!) FF - got that right.
@@gabrielcastilho4168 well, let me tell you a thing - in summer nights are way shorter than days, especially in some parts of Europe. Gets dark at around 22:00, becomes bright again after 3:00.
I actually like the way the Cinematic Mod reworked City 17, if nothing else. It makes the city feel more alive. Additionally, the color palette is actually quite similar to Half Life Alyx.
But devs tried to show despair and more controlled and dying city with it's depressing and oppressing atmosphere because of Alliance's attacks. And this cinematic mod just deleted this atmosphere by adding more freshly built skyscrapers and building cranes in the distance.
It’s actually a really well made mod, and it deserves credit where it is due. FakeFactory is just a really horny dude. Someone made a patch to get rid of all the NSFW.
Man, I legitimately feel bad for FakeFactory. Death threats? It just goes to show that pouring your heart out in front of people really can sting if it backfires. Definitely some strange choices were made for this mod, and I'm not a fan of most of the models. But still, death threats?!
Welcome to the internet! Where it’s a mix of people getting what they deserve or not getting what they deserve (bad or good) and then people move on the next thing to hate. Because what drives people more then money Then rage! Or PS5’s.
Half-Life 2 players: "These nsfw models are absolutely disgusting, this mod needs to be canceled!" Skyrim players: "Yeah baby, that's what I've been waiting for! That's what it's all about!"
There's some minor misrepresentation in this video regarding the character models: Fakefactory didn't create THAT alternative Alyx model (most likely he didn't create many of the Alyx models and the mossman models either), he just bought that character model. These models were sold with NSFW animations in mind and therefore have certain private parts fully modeled with the particle attachment points. Fakefactory just didn't go out of this way to remove these and unless you select that particular character model and noclip into Alyx, you'd never even know. Also, I never understood the hate for the grafitti. I live in a large city and there are many grafittis smeared on walls portraying NSFW things in a crude way just like the Cinematic mod does. Why would City 17 as the administrative center of the world (and therefore most likely the largest city) be any different?
You have to balance realism with functionality and personal preference just because it is realistic to what you experience or just realistic in general does not mean it should be added. If a thing is not marked as NSFW for instance while having that content then it will get crapped on for it because your failing to separate the content into its correct categories because not everyone wants to have that in there game and even if he didn't make the models its still a failure in due diligence on his part to let it be and not do something about it. What I am saying is it can be realistic but it shouldn't come at the expense of forcing people to deal with things they never wanted or in this case did not know since it was not noted or marked down with that in it. Especially considering its there game and there allowed to play it how they see fit. Think about it your driving a car in a video game and it runs out of gas do you want to A have a means to refill the car then and there even if it makes no sense or B walk miles down the road buy gas in the game and Walk it back to fill the car. My point is you don't want realistic elements if it detracts from the experience or detriments the player playing the game to a very bad degree even if it comes at the expense of some of that realism your players will appreciate convenience more then unreasonably applied limitations due to realism. Unless your goal in mind is to make a incredibly realistic game out of the get go but you should also tell or convey to your players that is what your game is.
@@videogamerNattie98 sure, realism isn’t always great and I don’t like the graffiti. I’m a Christian and a prude. I hate NSFW but it’s also just some game on the internet including graffiti you’d actually find. I don’t see a major issue.

I also completed a playthrough with CM and MMod, and I agree with you that it's probably the best combination for enjoying this mod. Even if somewhat cluttered at places, I think that the overall mapping work in CM is pretty great, and it especially shines when paired with the lore-friendly gameplay enhancements of MMod. I'm not sure if the MMod folks continued working on the CM compatibility since I've last played the game, though - I remember there were about 2-3 occasions where the game crashed to the desktop when playing with the two mods together, but other than that, it was a stable experience.
Is it bad I actually like how this mod looks in some of the footage? Yes the models don't look very half life but the amount of detail included along with the way it try's to push new features into source is very impressive for a solo dev.
it's weird because with asset overhauls the maps actually look really great. there's also a ton of duplicate files. works amazing with mmod and hla assets tho
hating on a hl2 mod for its sexualization to the point of sending death threats to the dev is really funny because anyone who is familiar with any multiplayer source game would know what abhorrent shit people spray on walls
Hot Take, but I actually get the thought process behind the obscene graffitis, and I think they actually make a lot of sense. I think if you think about what kinda stuff people would paint on the walls as an act of resistance in the context of the Combine suppressive field preventing all reproduction. Probably stuff like that.
Dude, this is such a blast from the past. In 2012, I got my first pc and was still so new to modding and pc gaming by the time the FF mod came out (I was also a teenager). I had loved the mod and didn’t understand the hate it was getting back then. Coming from consoles, it was so cool to see a single person be able to remake so much of a game on so many different levels. Looking back now, I still have nostalgia for it, and FF did get more hate than he deserved, but it WAS hilariously odd in some places for sure lol.
6:36 I think having more trees and grass makes it look worse, not because it looks uglier, but because in half life the combine is basically slowly killing earth and well the plants suffer from this attack as well.
Honestly, I'm kinda with the mod author on this one. If you dislike some of his admittedly weird choices then that's fine, but like, it's a mod... just don't use it. Attacking the guy online just because you don't like it is just a real internet moment.
those people are the reason why we can't have nice things anymore, imagine all the mod projects which got canceled because the Dev's don't want to handle tons of 13 year old justice warriors... its no longer a way to experiment and just have fun, damn i miss the early 2000....
I'm a huge Half-Life fan, but for whatever reason I've never gotten into the modding scene for the series, so I've never heard of this before. I think your video here is an extremely fair and reasonable take on everything. Kudos.
You’re absolutely right on the perspective and intent going into the mod. I loved this mod as a younger teen because of how much the game was overhauled. The sexualized models and graffiti had flustered me quite a bit but it was overshadowed by experiencing the new content: environments, lighting, weapons, etc. It was only in hindsight that I learned about ‘fully modeled’ and the Alyx room, since I just came into the mod just expecting a good time and I found one. Had FF known restraint and not included anything overly sexual, the reception would be immensely different, because it irks me that everyone knows this as the cervix mod when everything else about it was so cool.
I think the hate is largely undeserved. The graphical and environment enhancements are very impressive, especially for 1 dude. Though I definitely agree that the whole fully modelled and graffiti parts, among a few others, are weird to put it lightly.
What i really liked about HL2 is that the faces looked like (and were) real people. With these cinematic mods it feels like they're removing a part of the charm.
Yeah, when you look at the faces Valve used, they would be scans from people that worked at Valve or were people the employees knew or had hired. Meanwhile in the cinematic mod, one would just take character models from DAZ3D or Second Life and just call it a day.
So pick the default models.. Seriously. Half life fans get so pissy over optional things they have to go out of their way to enable, just to whinge about it.
@@heroinboblivesagain5478 as you can clearly tell from the comment, I was not at all mad. Its just about preference. I'm just pointing out a good feature
They look quite like actors. Especially women from our team in the later levels, with perfect make-up, despite lack of basic utilities and being in the middle of literal war zone :)
13:04 'At the end of the day, I don't know' has just become my favorite line to say whenever I'm having an argument with myself over my poor life choices. Thank you!
I just remember really liking the parallax occlusion mapped materials, giving details to the ground that were almost like witchcraft to me at the time. I don't remember if this was an included feature before or after the release of Crysis, but it was certainly before I was able to *play* crysis for myself
In the mod description, it said it was made to resemble something made in Hollywood and I think (looking at your video) that it's pretty much accurate. The mod delivered what it said it would.
It's definitely over-hated. It actually looks really good in some places, and the attention to detail is staggering for a one man team. (In one particular case that you mentioned, this level of detail is to the games detriment at times...) I prefer mMod for sure, and vanilla still looks totally fine even today. But cinematic mod isn't a bad way to revisit HL2.
I never knew about this controversy until sometime last year when I first found out some reviews for it on YT. I very much enjoyed the mod in general, although some models and graffiti did make me question "why tho?", but overall experience was definitely positive. I actually would recommend this mod, just use an add-in to remove obscene graffiti and keep default HL2 models for main characters.
What's often not really talked about are the early versions of Cinematic Mod where it started off more as a texture pack for HL2 (and it still had the cinematic music and other balance changes iirc), giving higher res textures for both the model and the world textures. You would be hard pressed to find a download of the original 1-2 versions before custom models were added in, as the Moddb page doesn't have it (and a significant portion of the older versions), and your google search results will more than likely give you results for the new versions of the mod that you see everyone talk about when the mod is mentioned, it's not impossible to find those old versions wayback machine is helpful, but it is annoying. Also if you've watched any significant amount of HL2/Gmod Machinima back in it's heyday or now, you might be familiar with the early Cinematic Mod textures as a decent amount of people used it for their machinima.
I appreciate the measured and reasonable perspective in this video, I had never heard anyone talking positively whatsoever about this mod and so it's nice to hear a more positive look even if there are things rightfully criticized.
bruh i might be the only guy out there who LOVES this mod. seriously when i first saw that mod was amazed by how cool the game looked (about the nsfw sprays and posters yeah that sucks a lot, that was even worse when i showed to my father lmao).
There isn't anything wrong about enjoying the mod. I looked pretty cool for what a 1 man modder could create on his own. Not saying that I'm much of a fan of the NSFW route the mod took. Also hopefully your father was kind to you after getting the mod shown
I will be honest with yall, after spending a year and a half remastering half-life 2 and its parts myself - i hate the people who hate the guy that did this remaster. And for context - i remastered it using g-mod addons simply by porting them, and yet it took me 1,5 years! Not to mention the ruined optimization and the amount of times I've had to reinstall HL2 just to start over and reinstall all the mods... And i remade it with my own quirks, including controversial graffities and other stuff. And yes, some of the models from the steam workshop were "fully modeled". Dont hate on someone else's work without thinking about what it took this person to actually do this, and without thinking what it'd take YOU.
3:24 Eyyy, thats me :D. CM isn't a bad mod, just different. Also ironic what kind of mods I went on to make and post on GameBanana later (I was supposed to destroy the sith, not join them).
What you said is totally true. All that was needed was to remove some NSFW and questionable graffitis choices. For a Source mod, the graphics are really well done. But damn people and their pitchfork and the fact that people can just straight up sending death threats and expect no repercussions just because “everyone hates the mod” is unreal.

Sir, this is the internet, having sensible views are not allowed. You must either viciously hate or unconditionally adore and worship things, there is no in-between.
Somebody: *spends time modding an entirely optional mod, out of his own free time with weird art direction but clearly acomplishing what he wanted* Everyone: "SEND DEATH THREATS, I DIDNT EVEN TRY THE MOD BUT BURN HIS DOG!" jokes aside it was a meme but youtubers getting on a bandwagon of hate for an easy video converted something that we joked about into a literal hate spree. There is no joke in sending death threats or wishing bad deeds to somebody who just made a mod. I will never go near that mod but the amount of dissapointment and even digust i feel about this community is inmesurable
imagine all the mod projects which got canceled because the Dev's don't want to handle tons of 13 year old justice warriors... its no longer a way to experiment and just have fun, damn i miss the early 2000....
It's funny because I feel like he was on-point when it came to the "hollywood-ization" of Half-Life. -Get the city completely wrong and make it not feel like an Eastern European city anymore and more American-ized -Not have the outskirts actually be on the outskirts -All the weapons are wrong and nowhere close to how they originally look in favor for tacticool -All the combine must wear black outfits 24/7 because wearing black=evil -The citadel must have elements of red to it because red=evil -Really hot actresses that look hardly similar to their role -A writers barely disguised fetish somewhere in here -Hans Zimmer Despite all that though, I don't actually hate the mod author for portraying it well, some people might actually like that and that's perfectly fine. I can also appreciate how well he unintentionally described every issue in Hollywood adaptations.
in vanilla, the sun sets fully while in BMeast, which you can see in the courtyard with dog. you basically spend the whole night in ravenholm and the mines, and then you are greeted with sunriserise when you emerge onto the train tracks. you spend the whole day along the coast, and when you reach NP the sun starts to set again.
It seems like a very interesting mod, its obviously very odd the creator included those very crude textures and models but some of the environments are very cool and look like an interesting change to the normal game, and some of environments just look beautiful based of the clips you showed. If the mod removed the crude parts it'd be a pretty cool mod to try out.
I really like some of these environments, very cool. The creator is obviously very skilled. If he was just the environment artist and someone else was the mod director, I think it would've been much better.
The HD vanilla models were alright. The others weren't. And, aside from the building style conflicts, the city looked great! My biggest complaint was the lack of a "clipping pass" with the new environment editions. I felt robbed when I died, since I was getting stuck on everything while in firefights! I also definitely agree that the tree's, blocking the view of the bridge in EP:2, was a lack of understanding the scene by the mod developer.
I'm so glad I wasn't the part of that community when I discovered this mod, really gave a remake feeling to the game - ofc I didn't use any of the suggested character models, but speaking of which... you mentioning it suppose to be over-the-top hollywood blockbuster just made me realize why characters look so different - it's like an american film adaptation with its usual miscast for every main character, none of them looks like in original (whatever was adapted), lol While some locations looked over-cluttered or missing the original point, most of others looked great - and now I do wonder what kind of a mod I can use nowadays to somewhat slightly improve original HL2 for another playthrough, but obviously not as dramatic as CM? I thought MMOD focuses only on weapons, is that the mod I want to use now? Ofc I won't expect "Black Mesa" level, but still, wanna a bit fancier graphics... P.S Btw, 'f u l l y m o d e l l e d' with particle emitter clearly indicates that the author just stole a model from some 3d porn to use as is basically, but a weird choice nonetheless.
I've tried "Half Life 2: Update". It has its own steam page, so easy to get. Not sure if I can vouch that it's better than other options or just playing the normal game, the changes were too small for me to really notice.
I haven't bothered to slap this all together, but I think if I played the mod with 4k AI upscaled model replacers (which I have in HL2:VR, which looks pretty sharp imo) or some other mod that just makes them look better but not completely out of place, and installed the graffiti remover mod... and if there is a mod to remove the other sexual things like in alyx' room and some posters and such, I think the mod would be incredibly solid. I will say I really REALLY like the way the combine look in the mod. I think they honestly look even better than the originals, as controversial an opinion as that may be.
The thing is everyone is going after CM bc of the character models... which are deactivated by default, you have to manually activate them... so i dont get why this is even a issue. I installed CM multiple times over the last decade, and they were never switched on... if you ask me CM2013 + MMOD + Original character models is a really fun experience.
Not only problem in Skins. Problem is also - with NSFW graffiti on the walls, which you can easily to remove (you need to find in internet - another mod for the mod, to remove them). And also DILDO in Alyx's Room, and some Gravure/Erotic posters of girls... in the world, where everybody under Alien's oppression field which turned off their desire to lust... So basically - it's really show anyway, how this german 45-old guy - are horny incel asf, even with or without NSFW skins from Character Pimper.
"Fixing a time lapse in the original game" what? You get to BME as the sun sets, make it through Ravenholm overnight, miss the sunrise while you're in the mines and emerge in the morning. You spend the day heading for Nova Prospekt. Then the sun is going down when you get to the rebel camp at the end of sandtraps, where you spend a while waiting for the bugbait and training with it, and it's night when you exit to go the rest of the way. That changes the entire timeline.
I would love to see a Half Life 2 mod that leans further into the Michael Bay style mid 2000s action movie era aesthetic. Cinematic Mod is okay, but some of it doesn't really fit what it's going for, most of all being some of the sexual graffiti. Give G-Man a Willem Dafoe face, turn Alyx into Megan Fox, Mossman into Sigourney Weaver, that kind of thing. Maybe turn blood particles into small practical squibs and add explosions where their weren't any. Something that isn't exactly a shitpost, but just has a bit of humour about it
Never played the mod, but gotta say something has a person that knows a bit of modeling, the models used for Alex had those extra polygons because those models were created for nsfw purposes, and if the model has Alyx's head its because the creator used a cropping technique, cutting the original (nsfw) models head and put Alyx's, in a certain point the creator probably didn't notice those or just ignored them, he just wanted that body model to reskin Alyx I'm not supporting anybody here, I'm just giving some explanations that people need to first know and then criticize something, not criticize without knowing...

This mod is getting hate for what it's supposed to be. You read it in the intro "a Hollywood producer got his hands on the game". Have you seen the R-rated Hollywood movies (even sometimes not even R-rated)? A bunch of them have completly uneccesary sexy/violent scenes, or people who really don't fit with what they're working with. Take for example Transformers by Michael Bay (or almost any movie by Michael bay). How many of the booty shots of Megan Fox where neccesary? How many of the akward sexual jokes (like the dogs banging or what not, or the main character saying he was jaking it) where neccesary? None really. This mod is that. You might not like it, but it does what is says it is going to do. The modder clearly was not aiming for some high art, but for what most Hollywood movies do.
Still don't understand the hate for this mod (watching this for the first time now), someone worked their ass off on it, the game looks incredibly gorgeous, and the models, while nsfw, are fine. The reason for the graffiti could be you know...the suppression field? How nobody can "do it" on earth anymore? I digress. I love this mod and still play it to this day
I never understood the hate, the mod overall was a fun take on the game. I enjoyed it overall, though there were a few things I didn't. aka main character models. But seriously though all you had to do was change the model so meh. I honestly always look at overhaul mods as another view of the same story, because that's what it is... It's the same thing as religion everyone has their own take on different parts of history or someone's written account of an acid trip and other hallucinogenic drugs...

I shall remain steadfast in my resistance against the seductive allure of the Cinematic Mod 2013, cherishing the game in its original form, wherein the characters retain their humanity and the cinematic experience remains a testament to"

Yeah, after watching the video fully I kind of tought "What if its all just intentional"
literally what i was thinking the entire time. it's clearly intended to be an over the top "hollywood-retelling" of the game so demanding it not to be that is kinda backwards.

I'm glad Cinematic Mod exists to show everyone how important art direction is to a game
I was thinking the exact same thing all throughout the video. The modmaker clearly wanted the game to look 'better' but had very little idea of what it meant other than other, more recently released games. So he just unknowingly copied the art direction of games that had little to no to do with Half-Life.
@@flaetsbnortyea but the game is looks like shit
I feel like deviating from the original art style was the point though. I think the intention was specifically to be really over the top. I mean the description says it’s trying to more “Hollywood” and in that regard I think it does alright.
Minus the overly sexual parts of course.
Clearly the folks at Overcharged didn't get that note.

It's a time skip because the time length of that night is WAY LESS than the time you've just spend during the first day

A lot of the terrain in this mod, or the maps, the environmental storytelling is awesome.
One of the strong points for sure.

Coming from consoles, it was so cool to see a single person be able to remake so much of a game on so many different levels. Looking back now, I still have nostalgia for it, and FF did get more hate than he deserved, but it WAS hilariously odd in some places for sure lol.

i like how you gave it an actual honest review rather than just saying what people wanna hear
Though I definitely agree that the whole fully modelled and graffiti parts, among a few others, are weird to put it lightly.
that's what I thought after seeing that video. I've never heard of this mod until watching it.
The hate is also weird because people could just...not use the mod.
What i really liked about HL2 is that the faces looked like (and were) real people. With these cinematic mods it feels like they're removing a part of the charm.
Oh yeah.

In the mod description, it said it was made to resemble something made in Hollywood and I think (looking at your video) that it's pretty much accurate. The mod delivered what it said it would.
It's definitely over-hated. It actually looks really good in some places, and the attention to detail is staggering for a one man team. (In one particular case that you mentioned, this level of detail is to the games detriment at times...)
I prefer mMod for sure, and vanilla still looks totally fine even today.
Half Life fans: This mod is so disgusting!
Skyrim fans: Yeah! Why doesn’t this mod have a nude option for the character?!?!

-Get the city completely wrong and make it not feel like an Eastern European city anymore and more American-ized
-Not have the outskirts actually be on the outskirts

-All the combine must wear black outfits 24/7 because wearing black=evil
-The citadel must have elements of red to it because red=evil

It seems like a very interesting mod, its obviously very odd the creator included those very crude textures and models but some of the environments are very cool and look like an interesting change to the normal game, and some of environments just look beautiful based of the clips you showed. If the mod removed the crude parts it'd be a pretty cool mod to try out.
How is it odd? the mod page litterly states to give a " “Hollywood-retelling”

I'm so glad I wasn't the part of that community when I discovered this mod, really gave a remake feeling to the game - ofc I didn't use any of the suggested character models, but speaking of which... you mentioning it suppose to be over-the-top hollywood blockbuster just made me realize why characters look so different - it's like an american film adaptation with its usual miscast for every main character, none of them looks like in original (whatever was adapted), lol
While some locations looked over-cluttered or missing the original point, most of others looked great - and now I do wonder what kind of a mod I can use nowadays to somewhat slightly improve original HL2 for another playthrough, but obviously not as dramatic as CM?
I'm pretty sure the reworked mod removes the sexual items.
The whole recreation of all the levels and general art style for this mod looks amazing it’s just tainted by the amount of nsfw content in the mod lol

Something that isn't exactly a shitpost, but just has a bit of humour about it
Never played the mod, but gotta say something has a person that knows a bit of modeling, the models used for Alex had those extra polygons because those models were created for nsfw purposes, and if the model has Alyx's head its because the creator used a cropping technique, cutting the original (nsfw) models head and put Alyx's, in a certain point the creator probably didn't notice those or just ignored them, he just wanted that body model to reskin Alyx
I'm not supporting anybody here, I'm just giving some explanations that people need to first know and then criticize something, not criticize without knowing...
