    The sigma FP series are perfect for videography, not only because of the raw video capability and the great dynamic range as well as higher bit rates. Esspecially the first version of the FPs were so good. For photography I recommend other vendors like sony, canon, nikon etc.

    Comparing the Sigma fpL (circa £2,000) to a Nikon Z9 (circa £4,000) is unrealistic. Also, the fpL does not claim to be an alround camera, whereas the Nikon does. As a landscaper the fpL is a fantastic tool, and I've gotten used to the EVF switch even though I my previous camera did it for me. At the price point of £2,000 the fpL is a superb investment, and I am very happy with mine.

      At the price point it is a great tool for sure! The next iteration should have higher flash sync and faster readout. It doesn't need to do all that Z9 does but these two things are quite important if you want to use it for more than static subjects.

    I’ve been shooting an fp for about 2 years along with my Leica SL and S systems. L, S, and M mount lenses work beautifully. The output from the fp is some of the best I have seen over a 50 plus year period of taking pictures. I do have the external viewfinder which does work, and I have my strap attached at two points without any issues whatsoever. I don’t shoot moving subjects with this camera, and I am cognizant of artificial lighting. If you are someone who thinks of one camera for all situations, then you need to think in terms of getting more cameras. This camera is fantastic when you want to keep it small and lightweight. To hit focus, I have 2 ways of doing so, one without the viewfinder, and one with. Without, try something like a Voigtlander 10mm and set the aperture to f/8. Everything will be in focus allowing cropping. Or, just attach an AF lens like a Leica 16-35. With the viewfinder, use the magnification and rely on focus peaking. Manual focus is pretty good here. I’ve posted quite a few photos with this camera @coasttocoastphotoatl.

    I've shot with one for years now. Shooting at a shutter speed, based on your country, can eliminate banding with lights. I like the switch because I can force myself to just use the EVF and not chimp like a Leica MD or X-Pro. I do think they could really innovate and release leaf shutter lenses to complement these cameras for flash work. Most of all, I'm furious with Sigma for never creating a native AF pancake lens for this camera. I don't want the overpriced crop 18mm. No firmware updates since early last year is also a major gripe.

    I went down exactly the same path with getting the Sigma mostly for my TL lenses complementing the Leica CL. The Sigma has grown on me more and more, even though I agree on most of the points you raised in your video. Two little details that make it even better is that the camera seems to pick up automatically when using manual focus M mount Voigtlander lenses changing to MF (and back to AF with AF lenses). The camera also automatically goes into crop mode when using APS-C lenses (unfortunately the crop mode stays and if you forget to put it back for full frame lenses you get the crop on them as well, I hope they can change that in a firmware update). But the best surprise for me recently was, that Capture One 23 now produces much better RAW files, which are now clearly superior to the ones on the cumbersome Sigma processing software, and if you change the white balance slightly to more green and blue you pretty much get the Leica colours of the CL! And thanks for all your great reviews, very helpful!

    Agree with most of this esp the point about anchor points with EVF attached when using any zoom lens, yes they do come undone..esp the evf to body screw... The slow shutter read out only hurt me once when panning. The EVF switch is annoying just like in early 2000s LC1 but you get used to it. Lack of IBIS as I have no OIS lens was only a problem on moonlit snowy nights when I didnt have a tripod, but usually isnt needed as the high ISO performance is so good. fpL+evf used for landscape/portrait and fp as a walk around. If it had 12 Mpix , it would see in the dark , like sony A7S , and would have much faster sensor read out , smaller files , and all good things that come with large pixels .

      @@PetrGardianTV I disagree , i dont have sigma FPL , but i do have Canon 5D 12Mpix , and 6D 20 or so megapixels ... and 5D is sharper , even when you pixel peep .
      Being an astrophotographer i know that if you take an image and reduce its resolution by binning , you reduce noise for the same amount , but i dont have problems with noise in usual photography .
      Now FPL is more for filmmaking , and i cant coment on that it probably produces nice fiels , but it would produce even nicer files with all the rest being the same just sensor pixel count to be 20mpix , or even 12mpix like Sony a7S.
      With such big pixels that camera sees in dark exactly due to large pixels .
      Dont know how to compare those 2 , for i dont have it .
      I get too that htere are people who like 100 mpix , a lot of them purchased phones with such high megapixel count and the images are rubbish , not even 12Mpix of sharpness . So a lot of people ask how much megapixels and how is the lot light ... they base their decision on that . But this is Propaganda , they are told to think that . They dont actually know what it is that gets you and what you lose .
      And you lose a lot .
      People say that best that human eye can see is 8K and that is 35megapixels , and that is also BS , on what size they dont say . I know for sure that on a tiny phone screen everyone uses these days , even 4K is pushing it , i doubt anyone would see a difrence between 2K and 4K on a phone , they may be seeing morethen HD , so probably 1440-- that about 2K and for that you need 4 megapixels.
      What is the point of 100Mpix sensor , in a phone where you can only see 4.
      The propaganda is huge .
      What you actually want , no matter the camera is less pixels , but modern one .
      Like i said if you want 4K you need 8 megapixels , and if you have 12Mpix , you have ways to crop , so still 5D for pictures , is more then in enough .
      Its more then enough even for Video , but it hasnt any .A7S does .
      And that they say is a beast , but i dont know about codecs and bitrates , probably not like FPL i dont know .

      @@dedskin1 I think we are talking about two different things. Sharpness vs the ability to crop. I agree that the hunt for more and more megapixels is hurting results in some devices but at the same time even 100 Mpx cameras have their place in photography.
      And I agree with your points about consuming content on phones and our limited ability to appreciate high resolution files (photo or video). But it's simple marketing which sells and it's going to stay here as long as this world is about infinite growth.

    • @dedskin1
      @dedskin1 Рік тому

      @@PetrGardianTV yes its marketing and a lot of snake oil . I for example got Canon 6D , and i was under impression that 20 megapixels would be better then 12mpix of Canon 5D , but turns out i like the image of 5D better .
      It almost looks like that it has more detail , it doesn't but micro contrast if you know what that is , its not general contrast . In DXO pro you have contrast , fine contrast and micro contrast .
      Exactly that micro contrast when you zoom in to a little speck , it looks sharper on 5D , even tho it has half the resolution of 6D .
      Good that i knew that prior to getting it , i got it for video work .
      There is just something in big pixels , also there is something in small pixels , you get a lot of them . Provided with good studio lighting you can appreciate say Hasselblad 100Mpix medium format .
      But then you have to work on the skin far more then you would need to .
      cameras have come a long way , and even ancient ones like 5D classic , give you plenty .
      Of course if you are a wildlife shooter , or sports photographer , its a different story, there you need zoom , huge lens , preferably crop body if you gonna crop anyways , better to crop with sensor and you get 1.6x crop for Canon or 1.5x for Nikon .
      Or even micro 4/3 2X , so your 400mm lens becomes 800mm, Field of View with same light .
      It all depends on what one does .
      Sometimes i have found a Smartphone to be a better tool because you have it with you for every moment .
      my usual gear is huge , i cant have it always .
      So there is lot to say .
      But far as Cameras go i like big pixels , i like Sony A7S , but even with its 12Mpix i would have to work more to get what i want , i would have to make a preset for colors and such .And of course Glass , Sony glass is in my opinion the best glass out there in form of Kit lenses . They have best kit lenses by far . If you tried Pz15-50 from Sony you would know what i mean .
      its able to perform like a Carl Zais prime , amazing . But its only kit lenses , when you go for real glass it gets expensive .
      I guess to everyone his own .
      But i could shoot with anything , whatever you give me , as long as it has hot shoe for accessories , i can do with it .
      But as i say prefer larger pixels because my audience watches it on smartphones where 100Mpix of a Nikon or something just would be a waste and pain in the ass to process .
      You know what i mean .

    I miss an IBIS so i can leave my tripod almost always at home or in the car. A tilt display for deep perspectives or high above my head. And the mechanical shutter because i had a lot of distorted moving objects with my FP. And at least i miss a 35mm Foveon ;) But the colors are beautifull.

    How could mechanical shutter makes the body larger and heavier it is none sense. The first gen a7R was 407g, only 30g heavier than the fp, but had EVF build-in and mechanical shutter. And obviously the fp with that weird EVF module on is no way lighter than the first gen a7R. Something release in 2020s without IBIS and articulating screen is so wrong. It is just a experimental camera, too far away from perfection.

    The issue which made me chose another camera is the lack of autofocus pancake lenses for the L mount. Why invest so much time and effort in making such a small camera and not create any lenses which are also compact? There are many pancake lenses created for other mounts, its a real shame there's nothing for the L mount. Converters are not a solution because its just adding length to the pancake lens so its nearly as long as the normal L lenses.....

    Lol, atleast on par with z9, probably the fastest non global shutter cmos full frame out there 😂. If only wishes could be so easily granted.
    One thing that can be done, but might take significant effort is to put a mechanical shutter in front and control it using strobe control from the camera (quite possible if you were using vintage lens that have longer focal length) but definitely defeats the point of a small and compact camera.
    I don’t know if this could help you, but it can run off usb power banks with the type C connector just in case you run out of battery.

    • @PetrGardianTV
      @PetrGardianTV  Рік тому +1

      Why not? :) Z9 is the first, not the last camera with this technology - I hope!

    • @manueljenkin95
      @manueljenkin95 Рік тому +1

      @@PetrGardianTV Fast sensor readout, especially with high number of pixels to sample has impact on image quality since the ADC design trade offs will be there. Z9 actually is iq wise a trade off over z7 to get the faster readout speed. I seriously doubt sigma would have a similar priority.
      This is not to say z9 has bad image quality, but to say that there’s inherent trade offs that is not easy to meet on all categories.
      I use and primarily shoot a d750 because I also want low rolling shutter in videos (d750 does line skipping, and records in max 1080p and can hence do really quick readout). I have not yet caught on with the 4K hype, and prioritise colour fidelity and other image quality aspects. We just have to accept that sigma fp L is not for fast panning or action shooting but rather for more subtle but well composed shots and videos (and especially landscapes).
      Now, faster sensor readout on the sigma fp, which is a lower resolution camera, is a fair thing to ask for. Sony already has a sensor with fast readout in that range (the ones used in a7 iii) so it should work out well.
      One feature I really wish all cameras have is open gate mode like in Panasonic s1h or the new Fuji XH2. I prefer 3:2 aspect ratio for both video and photo (my laptop also uses a 3:2 aspect ratio screen) and can display a lot more information with decent scope to frame nicely. I am hoping sigma adds this feature, even if it adds even worse rolling shutter.
