On my Z fc I use two Viltrox primes, the 33 1.4 and the 56 1.4 both are excellent lenses. The 56 is the better of the two. I recently borrowed a mates Fujifilm X-T4 with the Fuji 33 1.4 LM and 56 1.2 LM for a whole week of brutal testing and comparison. Result: The Fuji lenses are better optically but only very slightly. The bokeh of the fuji's is a little smoother. The Viltrox lenses are only a little behind, which for lenses that are a third to a fourth of the price is amazing. Both Viltrox lenses sit quite happily on my Z fc. If you think they are big/heavy, try using the Fujifilm 56mm 1.2 LM! It's HUGE.

... now I understand why people say that a Fujifilm camera cannot be a Leica replacement camera, since the optical rangefinder focusing system available in M8, MÍ9, M10, M11 simply doesn't exist not even the simplest form in Fujfifilm cameras.

I am shocked, that practically this OVF is just a whole cut on the camera body, and it has nothing optical. Everyting is electronic wizardry overlayed over this area. In a real rangefinder camera the rangefinder optical system is really the device for manual focusing; here the typical sensor live-view overlayed in the OVF area is the help for focusing, either manual or auto. I really liked your video, to help avoiding any false expectations, buying into an expensive camera system thinking that it has real OVF features. The OVFs in DSLRs, they were real optical systems, but this Fujifilm gizmoriada has nothing optical here.

I have several cameras, but the TL2 is my favorite. I like the shape & size of this camera, along with the image quality. I plan to use it until it breaks and I can no longer get it repaired. Leica says they'll support it for 6 years beyond my purchase so I hope to fully utilize it during (and hopefully after) that period.

Good video, thank you. I find the macro difficult to focus. It hunts for the focus, and usually takes the shot out of focus, especially if there is any wind. I will try your tip of using a smaller aperture.

The fact that one of them has interchangeable lens makes this comparison “not even close” 18mm? 35mm? 50mm? Sigma 18-50? Heck even 50-140 if you need to. Game over :)

I bought an FP, which except for only having a 24mp CDAF sensor is identical to the FP-L. I also got the EVF-11 and having to use a physical switch to go between the EVF and LCD also drives me crazy. Like you, I would turn on the FP and wonder why the LCD was completely black, until I remembered that switch.

Do people use the dedicated shutter and ISO dials on the Zf or just get it for the look and end up just use the front for shutter and rear dials for ISO more often which means even just want to shoot with small lenses, the Z6III will make more sense with the better grip and even better EVF plus these dials provide similar tactile experience with addition of a lens with aperture ring, hence don't need to get Zf but Sony A7R V which has a prism shape VF and flat top design which looks just like a Zf but modern look with bigger grip if one care about aesthetic too? Also what camera and lenses you carry or you just use phone while travel and everyday hangout and situations? I shoot for fun, art, contest and gig if possible tho I haven't done yet, my plan is to get that lens with Zf ith the 28-400mm and a Sony Xperia 1 VI phone (26,24,48,85-170, 2X macro) to be always with me waterproof and macro camera, but is that lens is too big and heavy on Zf as the only lens for everyday and travel usages? Down the line I might get the 14-30 and Voigtländer 50mm F1 if I want to maximize the use of that camera for wider and rare times of bokeh shots but that manual and aesthetic of the lens is tempting! And I love Yellow colour, hope Nikon will make a Yellow colour Zf like they did with the new colour entries on the Zf! 💛

I’m with you on hoping the Sigma lenses will come over to our Z mount cameras. A sigma rep told me the Megadap adapter (for Sony mount) seems to work pretty well. We could then use all Sony mount lenses.

Good to see you drawing attention to these Nikon DX cameras. I have the Z50 and a number of Nikon and Viltrox lenses for it. I’ve rented and even bought several Fuji cameras because by the specs would seem more impressive. But i always find the Nikon raw files better to work with in LR. I tried the Nikon 24mm dx lens but found the vignetting to be too much. I opted for the Nikon 28mm f2.8 and 40mm f2. They are relatively compact and have good quality. Please do a review of that Fuji to Nikon adapter when you can get it. Thanks!

Good review but I totally disagree with you about getting a black body on a ZFC. All my Nikon film bodies were black with white lettering and they looked more professional when I shot weddings. So when I bought the Zfc I looked for a black one and got one from Japanon on the used market. It looks awesome, way better than the panda style that most people bought. I also made a grip for the cameras the same shape as the old MD 12 Motor Drive from my FE. I put a piece of solid ash hardwood on it as a handle and looks awesome with the black body. But each to their own regards, Gerry.

I picked up a Zf in Japan and my immediate thought was "this camera is too heavy for me to travel with". The Zf is also a lot more expensive where I live. So there are two problems Nikon didn't solve!

I picked one up new on clearance recently for $800 Canadian w/ the Fujinon Zoom Lens XF18-55mm F2.8-4.0 LM OIS. I think it was a pretty sweet deal. Although learning it compared to other conventional camera's has been a bit of a learning experience. Still trying to figure out how to set it up for street photography.

The Zf is way heavier and bulkier than the XT5. For me the XT5 is perfect as an EDC camera paired with the 27mm pancake prime. I also had the XE4 but the smaller body didn't have any advantage for me cause the lens dictates the overall bulk of the kit. So thats IMO the biggest disadvantage of Fujifilm... There are to few modern compact primes. They should renew their 1.4 35mm and 23mm primes with better AF but with a few optical compromises (aka character)

90% of the time Fujifilm is out of stock and back ordered. So far with x100vi no one can get one unless you are a reviewer or an influencer taking pictures of your butthole. So I’m going with Nikon.

Or you use a speedbooster on the xt5. It would be more fair to compare the xt5 to the zfc.

I have never sought after the "perfect" camera. All cameras are different. All cameras are fun.

The grip on the ZF is horrible!

If you compare Fuji x t 5 with A FULL FRAME CAMERA then even this means that Fujifilm APSC camera is good enough that we compare it with a full frame. Fujifilm has great lenses. I use 16 mm prime lens, it is a fantastic lens. Do street, architecture, low light shooting, and so on. I have 8 mm lens that is great. Photographers should stop comparing two cameras. I can compare medium format Fuji with the Nikon. İs this fare ? X T 5 İS GREAT CAMERA, AND THE BEST CAMERA İS YOUR BRAİN.

Sooo... a vintage looking camera but without aperture control on a lens (unless you are using actual vintage lenses), and having the PSAM dial on top, what's vintage about that?? I don't doubt the overall quality of that product, but still, sounds like a pariah to me...

I have the Zf and X-e4 and both those lenses too. Love both setups, but the 40mm is silent and fast to focus. Maybe the xf 35 f1.4 has very slightly nicer bokeh but largely irrelavant. Hopefully Nikon will release a compact 50mm and 85mm f2 in the same style. Regarding the title of this video, what problem specifically did Nikon solve? lol

Ive used this lens professionally for several years, so for anyone seeking another opinion on it this is my experience: theres good things about it, and extremely frustrating things. The bad: 1) it's quite soft, like noticably so if you're cropping even in the image center it just is not very sharp even on my fuji xt-4 let alone some of the modern 50 mp sensors. It's not enough that like it isn't useable it's still sharper than a smartphone, but not by much 2) it still to this day suffers from really jarring auto focus issues when zooming in, this is mostly a video problem, but it's a BIG video problem as the whole reason for using this lens during videos is for run and gun where you know you're gonna have to zoom in and out while you're rolling. 3) its stabilization is very strong but is also somewhat sticky and jumpy if you try to pan or orbit something shooting video especially at longer focal lengths. 4) f/4 is pretty slow and you struggle to put backgrounds out of focus for photo shooting. And it does really hurt in darker situations The good: 1) 16mm is significantly different from 18mm, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! The fact that it goes all the way out to 16 mm is the biggest reason aside from weight I no longer take my sigma 18-35 f1.8 around with me and instead take this. 2) 80mm is nice to have, id settle for 16-55 but sharper and faster, most of the time but 80mm is very practical sometimes. 3) it's not a macro lens but you can fill the frame with small objects pretty well. This is something you can't do on for example the viltrox 75mm f 1.4, that lensc minimum focus is just too far compared to this one. 4) size and weight. This lens really is small and light enough to make a difference compared to even a single fast professional zoom lens and for that reason it is also very practical. My conclusion: very practical lens, but sort of point-and-shooty it's difficult to get dynamic or artistic looking images with compared to other lenses and man optically it really is not very good and it annoys me a lot as a video shooter. Overall I've kept this lens in my kit because it is just so practical, but I'm super looking for an upgrade at this point.

The zf imho needed two things: an "a" on the iso and shutter dials and a c1-c2 on the pasm selector. The other thing, they need more vintage lenses or a new adapter to make the older lenses fully readable and compatible. You can do it on a d200 why not on a Zf?

"Full Frame look"?. In that case, the Fuji GFX series and Hasselblads are the best cameras ever made because they have medium format sensors. Its just senseless to say one camera system is better than the other because of sensor size and resolution. Photographers who use the Fuji system have their own reasons, I guess its the same for Nikon or Sony users. Its time to retire the absolutely meaningless type of content arguing why one system is better than the other. Plenty of amazing pictures were clicked before UA-cam or the internet came into existence, that's saying something about how meaningless these videos are

Nikon and Fuji are owned by the exact same parent company Mitsubishi heavy industries. Nikon had to wait for Fuji to get a 40mp sensor to differentiate it from the Nikon Zf 24mp. Had there been only a 24mp or 26mp Fuji camera, then people would abandon Fuji for Nikon's Zf. Plus the Nikon Zf is not a professional camera, its a stripped down enthusiast model. The Fuji flagship cameras are now their professional lineup hybrid cameras. Mitsubishi has made a complete mess out of this situation between Fuji and Nikon opting to switch Fuji into a more dslr styled camera system while transitioning Nikon to retro styled cameras. Olympus was basically the first system doing retro styled cameras, and now Fuji copied that, and then Nikon, and now the Canon fanbois was Canon to make a retro styled camera. The only problem is is that none of them are actual retro cameras as they're all electronic and use fly-by-wire. A proper retro camera has mechanical coupling of auto focus rings and aperture rings and that is a dsrl. Mirrorless is not retro, its just stylized to look retro but is fully electronic, its Faux-retro.

the problem of both camera manufacturers is they made classical style body but reluctantly released classic style lenses situation of nikon is much worth cause they only released 2 so far (28 and 40m) i myself own zf and some fujis (not exactly x-t5, i got x-pro1, x-m1 and x-t1) now

I handled both, and bought the Fuji X-T5. No regrets. The Nikon looked great on paper but it's bigger and heavier in person, the grip is awful, and the compact primes have plastic mounts. Hard pass. And this is coming from someone who has owned half a dozen Nikon cameras - film and digital. Very happy with the X-T5 and the very high quality and well made compact primes.

Have both, bought the Zf first. Then the X-T5 . Have to confess , the size of Fuji is really nice … but shooting with Nikon is something really great too . I’m sticking with small primes and both systems are excellent. Love the 40mm f2 on Nikon unbeatable…. Same with the 35f1.4 on x-t5

Not really. Bought Fujifilm for the out of camera jpegs. Need to throw out photos quickly after family events without needing to edit them in Lightroom.

Switched to a XT30 II for half the price of my nikon and I have no regret

FUJIFILM has a headstart of about 12 years when it comes to this type of cameras. This is not to be underestimated.

I was frustrated with the ZF at first, but now i simply cant put it down. I didnt have that feeling with the x-t5. No regrets now at all. Above all the 24mp ff beats the 40mp cs easily with image quality and raw editing.

Nikon lenses are not at all good in terms of quality..plastic mount. Less third party lenses.

The drawbacks you need to accept with the Nikon ZF. 1) It has no thumb grip in the back - HUGE mistake. 2) It has almost no finger grip on the front - even that bit more on the X-T5 would have helped the ZF Didn't realize how much the lack of these two features make it difficult to use the camera one-handed when shooting over your head - as in trying to locate your subject when they're surrounded by a crowd of people. 3) the flippy-tilty rear LCD screen. Great for vloggers, not great for photographers. Flipping the screen out, then rotating the screen back is extra clumsy step when you're trying to shoot quickly over your head. ...making "over your head shooting" doubley problematic. ...this flippy-tilty screen is also problematic when shooting low from the hip, or near the ground. The screen gets in the way of your left hand - or your arm gets in the way of seeing the rear LCD screen. I'm a pro shooter, and these three issues have become a total deal breaker for the ZF for me - and I really wanted one to replace my Z6 II. 4) Lens size. You showed the ZF with two of the most mundane lenses in Nikon's line-up. The 28/2.8, and the 40/2. Nikon's lens design solution for their "REALLY GOOD" lens options seems to be "go longer and narrow" vs. "shorter and fatter". I'd rather have shorter and fatter than longer. Fuji 33mm f/1.4 is 2.6 x 2.9" and 12.7 oz / 360 g Nikon 50mm f/1.8 S is 2.99 x 3.41" and 14.64 oz / 415 g If you want to go dreamy - then you have to accept "HUGE" and "Heavy". Nikon 50mm f/1.2 S is 3.5 x 5.9" and 2.4 lb / 1090 g To say the Fuji X system isn't for pro-shooters is big gaping hole in your commentary. Plenty of pros use the X system as their cameras of choice. ...You should check Chrisman Studios work...

I am a long time Nikon user and I have invest on the system (10 or more leneses). Even if a brand produces a better body than my Zf (I also own a Zfc), it is very expensive for me to change brands. So, my advice is to stay with what you already using, at least if you have invested on a system (eg having 2-3 lenses). There are exceptions of course, for instance if you need special lenses (eg Nikon has great long telephoto lenses) that do not exist on the system that you are using.
