Logical and realistic opinion of both pellets and slugs .Personally, I was very keen to use slugs in hunting pigions ,but it turned out that slugs damage every body parts of the bird to the extent that you do not fine any meat 😂😂.I also discovered that the distance is most of the time below 90 yards ,so I stuck with using pellets .

Appreciate the fact you are talking about FPE
BUT FPE AT POI IS THE FACTOR
You might consider testing claims of additional accuracy
By adding this that and the other thing
THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL US
YOU ARE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
    KEEP IT UP

Yea, after the video I was thinking I should of been more clear. The FPE I think most of the time I was referring to was at the POI. I made the mistake of mixing the 2 items but year it does matter since BC and power of the pellets die off pretty quick. Thanks again for watching.

Thank you for this fine video. You make a rather satisfactory argument for using different projectiles for separate uses - which is my personal philosophy. Also pellets cost far less than slugs - JSBs 25.39 grain redesigned being my favorites at approximately 925 FPS on the higher value for 48.45 FPE. Since I am a neophyte in the air gun world, I would suggest to anyone to start this trek with pellets, but good-quality pellets so as not to damage the rifling of the air gun, therefore better accuracy and precision (there is a difference). Much obliged for your films.

I've been blown away by the NSA 17.5 grain slugs. More accurate than pellets at any distance for me, my groups start opening up beyond 960fps but shoot great high 7's till then. They are about 5 cents a round and it's kind of my all-around projectile. I can't see wasting my 26 grain lasers for practice, and the benefits out weigh the added expense. I clean my stuff and resize and light silicon lube, they shoot super clean and load so easy, just smooth and accurate with the option of low energy. Totally onboard with your logic. I actually got them for my TX200 and I believe it turned the gun into a formidable 60 yard gun, I really didn't think my Wolf would shoot them so well, really glad I tried them.

Thanks for watching. Also what rifle you using the 17.5 grain slugs for ? I am taking it that you are using the nielson .177 17.5 slugs right ?

@@ShootingTargets727 No sir, I have a Daystate Redwolf HP .22 cal that I recently installed the Heli board in. And the 17.5 grain are 22, and yes they are the Nielson specialty ammo, and I buy them one size over just to insure I can uniform them to 5.50, They are very consistent, but I've found my particular barrel like 5.49 -5.50 pellets and slugs. This has been a monumental discovery for me because before resizing I was rather displeased with my gun and literally tried everything 2-3 times with varying results, which was probably when I got a good tin of pellets that were sized to the guns liking but I was just unaware of this fact. The pellets these days I believe are mixed for sure because once you resize, the inconsistencies become very obvious, you can feel how much force it takes to push one through as opposed to another, and it's my belief that these guns are actually showing you that, till you feed it what it needs. I originally got the slugs to try in my TX200 springer, which seem to shoot them exceptionally at about 620 fps. My pro sport on the other hand is in .177 and won't shoot slugs, and the problem is that you can't put them in, they are too tight. and If I resize them to be able to put them in, the air leeks by in the rifling and the come out at 400 fps. For some reason My TX 200 doesn't do this. Now PCP's are chambered differently than spring guns where the rifling starts immediately on my springers. The resizers I use can be found on Ebay, they are called TTS pellet resizers. And god damn you will not enjoy this process with those large hands. To me it's all part of the hobby and I can resize quite efficiently on a rainy day and it gives me something to do and be ready. The TTS resizers are a very solid stainless and should last forever. I just wanted to add that Iv'e been resizing for a little while now and it doesn't matter what the tin says as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't mean that's what in the tin, and I measure with calipers too, just to see because Iv'e had tins that the head size was 5.41, which is awfully small, and the results are just as inconsistent as oversized.

Some might say I'm blowing this resizing thing out of proportion, but here's my deal. I spent close to 2 grand on the RedWolf HP, Hawke sidewinder, bipods, ammo for days, Best hand pump, a couple silencers, and there wasn't a single day where I could outshoot the HW-100 I sold to be able to afford it, or make it reasonable in my mind. I tested everything, I"d come home and pump my brains out and always left disappointed and looking to try something, anything to justify the cost of something I'd be embarrassed to let some else shoot or look at my mediocre groups. Getting outshot by an Avenger was almost when I Louisville sluggered this thing into a tree. I sent my scope out thinking it was parallax because my groups would shift from one point to another, like just weird. One day My friend showed up with the stupid Avenger and ordered the wrong pellets because he didn't know the difference and finally his gun shot mediocre, and my gun shot them lights out! It was then I ordered the same thing he got and when I got them in the mail, the skirts were so big they wouldn't even go in my magazine without pushing them in with another pellet, and sure enough they shot like shit. Go back to the ones he gave me and lights out groups. I started researching this and came across the resizers and found mixed reviews where some would say pointless, and some would say they are great. I spent so much money and effort already I said why not try it, it seems to line up with what's going on here, because clearly it didn't matter anymore what you tried to order for ammo and I wasn't about to rely on hope, so I ordered all the sizers I could for the .22 and the smaller I went the better everything shot, and they loaded easier and fit in the damn magazine. So to wrap it up. I have an ART Poly barrel, and my friend who has the Avenger wound up getting a Brocock Sniper Magnum which also has a Poly barrel, and both of us, even though our twist rates are slightly different, have had the exact same experience until resizing. I also had ordered a compressor right about the same time as figuring this out so I was super invested and never happy with my purchase till the resizer showed up. Do I like resizing? Not particularly but it's what I gotta do to get what I paid for. I also was so happy about it I got the HeliBoard and basically jailbroke my gun. 12 power setting and programable, It's the gun I always wanted, and now when I open the scope caps it's like the Wolf is pinning its ears back, and its bite is finally worse than its bark.

    Slugs don't like choked barrels.

Slugs do a lot more damage to critters.

Glad I watched this analysis. I haven't yet fired a pellet yet from my Bullboss. Think that if you want to tune your barrel in for slugs perhaps its prudent to tune in with slugs only. This I will do. But if they do not have the 60 80yrd accuracy required then I will come back to this cool guys advice. I am sure that what he means is that your gun will have its limits. Slugs are the long range choice. But if your gun is not accurate enough with them, then you have to find the max distance and accuracy available for its kill shot. Thanks again Mr Cool for your down to earth take on the situ. I love the idea of slugs in my Bullboss. But without such analysis I might spend just too much time on flogging a potential dead horse. For this I thank you. Until I can afford an FX or better.

After watching a lot of comparisons of pellets and slugs I have come to the conclusion that, hunting with both at the same time- same rifle, is not possible. The shift in point of impact between the two simply makes them mutually exclusive at mid to longer ranges. So on any particular hunting trip it simply has to be the one or the other. The one that has been sighted in with. Thanks again for these thought provoking videos.

Again, very pertinent and informative video. Slugs is more for gaming...I feel so.
For medium power pcps, slugs are not recommended because invariably the reg pressure will have to be incr atleast by 10 bar for same weight slug vis a vis pellets.
Also, the exact apt size of slug to be identified to cause less stress on barrel.
Cost.... accuracy ... are other factors.
Airgunning has a limit, thereafter is the place due for fire arms.
    Thanks again for good info.

There will always be a demand for Diabolo pellets for springers and lower velocity pellet guns . Even in some PCPs with a velocity in the 700-800 FPS range .
When the introduction of the slug came into the PCP world it opened up a whole new performance level never realized for long range accuracy . I made my first expensive purchase of an FX MKII 3rd generation just before the M3 came on the market because of the slug . Not even FX was ready for the slugs and the demand for velocity to get the heavier slugs to fly properly for the distances hunters wanted .
Reliability has suffered due to the higher pressures required to sling a pellet well beyond what we once thought impossible to achieve . O-rings , hammers to drive the valves and trying to keep consistent speeds for long distance accuracy has proved to be a challenge . FX is still struggling with their barrel design due to the higher velocities and harmonics but through carbon sleeves with a way to tension the barrel will be acceptable for competition in the 22 caliber . Not so sure about bigger calipers without a bull barrel .
I look for a lot of innovation in regulators , valving with less restrictive porting to take us to the next level . FX seems to be ahead of the game in that respect with the new FX Panthera . I hope other manufacturers will follow suit .
I still think the 22 is the best alternative for the PCP world for both competition and hunting without putting to much demand on the PCP air guns with reliability issues . The 22 is the only caliber I see competing against firearms . That is the threshold and limits for the Airgun industry .

very well said. Reliability was going to be on one of my next videos. I been seeing alot of stuff breaking and now that these airguns started with 1 or 2 orings and have grown to over 50 in some guns it is asking for problems when pushing for more power... Thanks for some of the insight.

  • @zsedcz

Like I always say, it comes down to what are you using the gun for, some people don't even have a hundred yards plus now you have to drive to the range or drive to a location where you have 100 yards plus, and I have seen videos with pellets shoot beautifully at 100 yards, also in most cases if you're hunting I don't think you want to hit your target at a hundred yards you probably want to do so closer than that, so like I said, what are you using the gun for.

The gun did fluctuate regulated psi out of the box which caused shots to over or under shoot at 200 yards I fixed by changing out the regulator to an adjustable ninja unit, now it hits dead on out to 200 yards the limit of my shooting lane

  • @marty4645

So my thing is this, same slug weight same pellet weight, the problem is when you go up in weight. The air is the same regardless. The higher the weight of the projectile the more air you are going to have to push it to your desired destination. Regardless of the shape. How many bullets are shaped like pellets none that I know of. Slugs because of their aerodynamics will have less drag than pellets. Conduct a test with slugs and pellets that weigh the same and find your results. There is a reason why slugs are becoming a popular ammo for shooters.
The quality of Airguns will determine how much down time a shooter will experience. Most gunners are buy parts to get the best out of their guns. I would not treat my airgun like a trailer queen, not even when I get my FX.

    • @ShootingTargets727
      @ShootingTargets727  Рік тому +3

Marty, curious in my testing sometimes the slug fits tighter in the barrel and requires more air to get the same speed as a pellet alot more air. So it depends on what you shoot. My buddy has an fx and his slugs / pellets almost shoot the same speed which is nice. He has even seen the javlins that are heavier shoot faster than fx hybrids which are less weight. Just my experience but slugs tend to require more power and put up with higher speeds than pellets. My .177 has 10 grain knockout slugs that shoot 105 fps slower than 10.2 grain pellets. so the air usage is HUGE. Just my experience in letting users know that shooting slugs is not the absolute end all be all there is a cost in ammo and air usage.

I just loaded up and bought 2,000 round for $56.96 because of the 4th tin is free. Basically this equates to .2.8 cents a round. The inflation thing is really killing the pellets as you can hardly find the stuff you want because of backorders. .22 rounds were not that much more 13.4 grains at 3.4 cents a round .. hope this helps.
