@@locodriver601 for some reason my bench grinder came with no rest at all. would it be any less dangerous if i completely removed the guard around the wheel so that nothing could be pulled under the wheel?
@@pcpairgunschannel Not a good idea. You should keep the guard and make yourself an adjustable rest. It should be quite easy to do. A bit of time and effort is better than injury to your fingers.

You are receiving compensation from youtube to teach peoplesomething worthwhile. Yet you continue to use a benchgrinder without a toolrest. Have you ever seen a picture of a human finger that was pulled down into the ever decreasing space between a spinning abrasive wheel and the mounting bracket that was designed to hold the toolrest. I worked as a toolmaker all of my working life, and have grabbed a shop towel to wrap around the finger of one fellow worker. A decent portion of the first joint was chewed away. I have ground nicks in my hands annd fingers over the years with the guards in place. Abrasive wheels are filthy objects that transfer that dirt to your open flesh as it is burned. Some of these do get infected. Keep a bottle of hydrogen-peroxide in your tool box, and put the damned guards back in place.
do you mean that I should simply add a rest, nothing complicated right? I got no rest when I bought mine... I have to make one by myself probably. possibly a production issue
Yes Sir it is dangerous to not use tool rest, little table, shelf etc. ur really lucky enough to have people to kinda give little hell so it doesn't cause a lot of hell in the future. Because it will eventually happen. Might not be real bad and on other hand. One could loose a hand. Maybe a life. They are very dangerous . Nice work, really loving your videos. That's the best DIY button rifling button I've seen being made and using the 6 flute reamer was the best starting point I've seen too. The big question with all these DIY rifling videos is, can the barrel take standard pellets or must you make your own to the exact dimensions of your barrel? I say that because even expensive barrels are choosy at the best of times, you'll get tight groupings with one brand and flyers with another.
From my experience in general most diabolo pellets work well. Since the grooves are a bit thinner using this method, it is best to keep it under 30 ftlbs to keep good accuracy.
@@pcpairgunschannel Thanks for interaction. I've watched possibly all the DIY PCP videos on youtube and you stick out a mile as the channel to watch. Again, nice work and thanks.
It's an interesting video. Did you heat-treat the reamer off-camera? Just curious how hard the bit was after heating it for reshaping. Lands and grooves are usually wider than what this would make, but for a do it yourself technique, it's cool to see. I hope you chamber the barrel and do some accuracy testing. It would be cool to see the projectile with a high-speed camera. Thanks for posting!
Super! Tell me please, what is the diameter of the shank? If the reamer is 5.6 mm, then what is the diameter of the tail section, since it fits so easily into the workpiece with a diameter of 5.5 mm?
Another way to polish a crown is to put a brass round head screw into your drill chuck in the steady rest and put some polishing compound on it then run it against the crown.
It's pretty, but not going to be much use. The lands are 95% of the rifling and will create a huge amount of drag. They should be about 33% of the rifling, with the grooves 66%. Also, what is the twist rate
If you use this reamer method then use hss. Tungsten carbide and cobalt are harder, but they are more brittle. Due to that you would risk the button breaking if you used carbide
