    thank you Stephen colbert, great ear to the ground as always. thank you The National for this, for the respect the Dead deserves and a very tasty cover! definitely looking into this more. P.S. I cannot get enough morning dew. this is going in my folder of best versions for sure. :)

    The Grateful dead did not write it, it was written by Bonnie Dobson in 1962 and arranged by Fred Neil in 64.

      K but any Deadhead knows this is a Dead song. They made it theirs.

      @@sjf4405 This is true. Their version is the most dynamic and well done version out there. This version is a rolling train ride that touches on some key guitar riffs. Such a song would be difficult to present in most popular settings. Remember how Jer would build a crescendo and inject the pain of the world into the lyrics with his strained voice? Had the singer tried to light us up it would have been a fitting tribute. Nice that the material is out there , I guess.

    Grateful Dead song????? It was a song long before the Dead formed! Check out Tim Rose and Bonnie Dobson!

    This is not a Dead song, this was written by Bonnie Dobson in 1962.

    This version is in the same league as the Allman Brothers (31st of February) and the Grateful Dead's Barton Hall version
