Thank you so much for this video. This should be required watching before foiling! Understanding the mechanics of pumping is so important so you can do it correctly. Sending my best from the Foster City CA crew!
Another really helpful video. I have been so close to getting on foil I am really hopeful this is the last step. Your super clear. Thankyou for sharing.
It's funny how you're focused on lifting the foil. That's what I was doing when I started to learn dock start after some time wing foiling. And to progress with the dock start I had to unlearn that to really focus on pushing down to gain speed and stop thinking lifting the foil at all. That's what we teach to our dock start trainees now : stop thinking about heigh, focus on gaining and keeping your speed, and that's done by pushing hard on the foil front wing.
@@thisolddown Think more your lifting up on the up stroke, pushing down on the down, and lifting again! Speed is your friend keeps the foil moving and not stalling........A whole lot harder to explain really! The energy yes is put into the board on the down, correct! Hope this helps....
That vidéo helped me à lot, thks ! I finally realized that pumping means jumping forward more than pushing on your board! Wing foiling is Amazing, but don t forget to try Windsurfing as well!!
One wheel is the best training for foiling plus you can learn to pump on the one wheel also I train using the wing on one wheel also put kite bar in my hands to train to kite foil
What are your thoughts on mast track position? I have my mast as far back as I can go to help with mellower takeoffs. Will this affect the ability to pump?
Mark, at 210 pounds I would be looking for a larger foil like a 1200HA or a 250HA. I would stear towards a High Aspect as its better for pumping. Mid aspect and low aspect you add drag! My thoughts....
Great video! Curious for specifics: what is the ideal fuselage length for pumping? (So set aside other relevant trade offs - if I am picking fuse length solely for pumping, what length?) Thanks!
Tony, I would say for pumping 27-29 inches for the mast. Shorter is better for the surf, less hitting the sand or reef and also keeps your wings higher to the surface for more lift and easier to lock into the power. If you are speaking fuselage everyone is going shorter for better turning, much twitchier, but a little harder too pump when learning. Longer fuselage you get more leverage easier to pump but a hair more drag unless you shrink your tail wing. More personal preference. In theory shorter more pitch sensitive longer more stable.
Al the wings right now you have to pump them up yes. They normally don't come with a pump. Best place to get one is at adventuresportsusa.com/?ref=DAMO and support us and the UA-cam channel! Get 5% off any gear using discount code DAMO5
It feel like the phase you go up is longer than the phase going down (especialy on the last part of the vidéo). Should I slow down the phase of releasing the weigth on the board and push as hard as I can on the phase down?
Show us them pump skillz Damo! I've found the biggest obstacle to pumping is the Dock Start itself - can you show us how it's done? Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers
You would have to have a folding prop and a high aspect wing. No prop guard on as well, then yes.... :) Not as easy as you are pushing another 60 pounds of weight.
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam yes i do have a folding prop and no guard, but yes seems difficult I am just wondering if others do it or it's impossible due to extra huge weight? Basically all together it's like we have 230 LBS rider trying to pump lol
Wow. I've been working on pump foiling for 3 years and this is by far the best explanation I've heard. Thanks so much!
Joe this might just hit another level! Gwen killed it on this one.... ua-cam.com/video/jPy59hSjtvs/v-deo.html

I'm in Foster City and I really want to start. Do Yk if there is enough wind here to use a wing?
@@miles2309 absolutely. go to Baywinds park and ask for Tony the instructor he can give you the lowdown.
"You will definitely lose friends" - haha love it.

best line. it will work even better with sunglasses
Love the thieving of the wakes at the end. Killer!!!
Thanks John!
Great video, actually one of the best!
Thanks, in fact my trial were all about trying to push the foil. Will take on with your advice from this video
Right on Michael we appreciate you!

03:03 sounds like Michael Scott explaining how to foil...
Excellent instructional!
Great Overview of Jump - Pump - Glide: Fuse length will also dictate Pump cadence

Thank you! Can you show how to get on foil in swell, without a wing or paddle? Is this possible?
Video is coming my brother!
Throw your hands up in the air......throw your hands up...in the air....... :-D Very good tutorial Damien....thank you...^^
Thank you friend! We appreciate you!
Cheers from Aussie surf. I tried the clap hands thing, just end up laughing.
Love this! It made my day!! Nothing wrong with just laughing! :)
I’m guessing it’s similar to a pump track on a skateboard? Tall and light on the ups and compress into the troughs?
Exactly!
thanks man!
I can pump on the wave, but so far not off the wave...time to start working on that!
Yea buddy you got this!!!

Thank you Damien. Is it even possible on efoil? I keep sinking unpowered after 2-3 pumps
