John Paul Jones played bass, keys, and acoustic guitar & mandolin (during the acoustic portion of their concerts). The keys he’s playing during Stairway are a Melotron during the intro, then electric piano and bass lines on foot pedals.
Greetings from Canada. On the album, Jonesy plays 3 different recorders at the start. For live performances he preloaded a Mellotron with them... which he plays them with his fingers, while his feet play bass pedals. Peace, love and bellbottoms.
I love this song and I absolutely love Led Zeppelin! I grew up listening to their music and it is still so much a part of my life. Yes, that is John Paul Jones on Keyboard there. I love their "Celebration Day Tour" video and I would have loved to have been there at that concert. My favorite Led Zeppelin songs are "The Song Remains the Same", "The Rain Song", "Kashmir", "Stairway to Heaven", "Ramble On", "Good Times Bad Times", "All My Love", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "Since I've Been Loving You", "Thank You", "The Immigrant Song". A friend of mine lives very close to Robert Plant and his friend is dying of brain cancer. Robert Plant sang him a song on his cell phone and sent it to him and wished him well. I was so blessed to be able to see it and then delete it as requested to do. Led Zeppelin with all of it's fame and fortune was made up of humans and most people like to lump them all together as people that are not very caring or decent and that is false. Their music touched so many people's lives and still does today.
So happy to get more Zeppelin on the channel!! It's not the live one I requested a while ago but my fingers are still crossed you'll get around to it someday. When JPJ is on the keys, he uses foot pedals for the bass. There is nobody else is on stage with them when they create their magic.🤘🤘
Jimmy is the top dog in my opinion as #1 guitar god, not super fast, or real clean, but its the true way a guitar should be played, and all the compositions, yeah, he's the man.
Wholeheartedly AGREE!!! Ive been in Mad Luv with My Jimmy Wizard Babe since i 1st started listening to them when i was 8 yrs old they grabbed me by my Soul & NEVER let GO! & They consistently put me in a *Trance* where i am taken out of this realm they are the most Beautiful Gift & a Treasure to this Planet *RockON!!!
This is one of the first songs I remember hearing as a small child. I remember the guitar parts. Yes the whole song, but specifically the incredibly beautiful guitar there’s something so magical about it that I think really appeals to a sense of wonder that those of us who’re musicians have for the greats.
"Stairway To Heaven" is their most famous song & considered by many as one of the all time best. Led Zeppelin have a huge library of hits. "Immigrant Song", "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog", "Ramble On", "Kashmir", "When The Levee Breaks", “Dazed & Confused”, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, "Rock & Roll", "The Ocean", "Over The Hills & Far Away", "The Song Remains The Same", "The Rain Song", "Good Times Bad Times" etc.
And Bonham is just sitting there making it look easy! I always love Zeppelin, and they can certainly perform this song. I agree that it is a great song, but since it was so overplayed on FM radio that it’s still one of my least favorite songs. But this is definitely a great performance. Thanks for playing it.
I enjoy their performance of a lot of their songs during the five nights of this gig - In My Time of Dying during the 25 May performance was outstanding - but I admit that for Stairway to Heaven, I think their 1973 Madison Square Garden performance was better. I think you'd enjoy it even more so if you've got the time, I recommend that you give it a watch.
Thanks for this live performance. I'm much more familiar with the short, AM radio, studio version. The intro was fabulous, and the rest of the song was as beautiful as I've ever heard it.
I was in the audience here. Amazing concert ! Two or three months before the show I was very early in line to buy my tickets at Earl’s Court which were to on sale at midday. By 10:00 am the crowd was so packed and getting more and more impatient and boisterous that us early arrivals were being pushed by the yobs at the back and things were going sour. Fortunately the organizers must have seen what was going on and they opened the ticket counters at around 10:15. Nearly got Trampled Underfoot !
There's other live versions of this. Some of the later ones are not so good. My favorite is the Madison Square Garden 1973, though the video quality is not as good as this.
As a drummer, hit When the Levee Breaks, Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand (studio and live), In My Time of Dying (same). As a megafan, Madison Square Garden 1973 versions of: The Ocean, No Quarter, Whole Lotta Love, Rain Song, Dazed all kill. Actually the whole catalogue is killer. Check out Immigrant Song on BBC. Deep bench!
Once the drums initialize in the song you can clearly hear Bonzo’s drumming over John Paul Jones keyboards….it sounded like the keyboards were dubbed out ….the 1973 MSG live concert the keyboards was present throughout the song….would have been the better choice
Awww YAY **Beautiful** **FUN** reaction **LUV** how MUCH you **Enjoyed** it!!! wondering have you watched their live performance of **In My Time Of Dying** at Earls Court 1975? it is just **Beyond Extraordinary!**
And this is why I can’t have a favorite guitar player It would be Stevie Ray Vaughan hands-down But I can’t do it because Jimmy page exists. That tone that incredible tone he’s just so musically gifted. He is wasted here as he has said in interviews. And still, this is what you get. Just absolutely incredible yes, John Paul Jones this was really his masterpiece, but I could never get around Jimmy. He’s just so good. Thank goodness there’s so many guitar players and there’s so many great ones they make life worth living lol
Sorry that you selected 75. Robert had been ill and his voice was suffering to the point they cut the tour short. Not terrible, but 73 was a much better year for them.
Yep ... saw them at the Oden in New Street Birmingham that year. Robert comes into our pub from time to time, always has time to talk but not really about Led Zeppelin ..... of course it was Bonzo's passing 25 September.
Sadly, Robert Plant refuses to sing 'Stairway to Heaven' in concert anymore... the last time he did was in 2007 at Led Zeppelin's reunion and final concert for charity. Yes, John Paul Jones plays keyboards as well as bass... he was Led Zeppelin's secret weapon behind the scenes and onstage because he was a trained musician, composer, producer, arranger and a multi-instrumentalist. Led Zeppelin never used offstage musicians as far as I know... Unfortunately, that meant that if any band members were tired or not feeling well, they sounded rather shaky in concert. From what Zeppelin's studio engineers recalled... John Bonham and John Paul Jones were the best rhythm section they had ever recorded... they would complete their drums and bass tracks in 1 or 2 takes (which was unreal!) ... And in concert, if Jimmy Page's playing was sloppy... or Robert Plant's voice was not all there... John Bonham could always save the day w/ his incredible performances on the drums and John Paul Jones was always a reliable presence in the back that kept the Zeppelin steady.
ua-cam.com/video/Gg5J1v8OVJY/v-deo.htmlsi=j6zxE0LfwleDNtBV Heres the link for John's drum solo Moby Dick from MSG 1973. Enjoy cause you're mind is about to be blown 🤯😂
@@setonhillstudiosdo the Royal Albert Hall (1970) Moby Dick solo, you can see what Bonham is doing better. Live at Knebworth (1979) Achilles Last Stand & Kashmir, for great Bonham drumming. Dazed & Confused at Royal Albert Hall (1970) for drumming too. I know it’s been quite awhile since you’ve done Zeppelin, so not sure what all you’ve heard. Fool In The Rain is another great Bonham song, but then they all are, he stands out.
I no longer take “Priority Requests” just because it became unmanageable. You can shoot me a request and I kind of just go through the comments and pick and choose! Thanks for hanging out! 😄
I think it's a good version, the only thing missing is the solo. I don't think Jimmy Page can finish the solo with as much force in this version. The 1973 version is much better.
@@setonhillstudios it’s the one for their movie, The Song Remains The Same, all 3 concerts there were for the movie & are the best, of the songs until that time.

Of course the live show is rehearsed too but no thank you to today’s fake lip synched nonsense. I’m glad I was able to see so many shows back in the day. There was always some spontaneity
@@setonhillstudios Well, son... Compare it, to the 1973 recording, which is also on the live double album, "The Song remains the same" and draw your own conclusions. Have fun with it...
As Led Zeppelin go - that's a mediocre recording of the song. The performance wasn't the worst (apart from idiotic Plant's unnecessary additions) but the sound on the video is pretty awful. But the band's got charisma so it's got the views and likes. listening to the studio album version is a much more pleasurable experience.

In my time of dying live. It is humbling to musicians . These guys as a unit set the bar.
every live performance of this tune varies, keeps it fresh, Bonham is my favorite drummer yet there's so many greats
I saw John Bonhams son Jason in concert a few years ago, he definitely got his father's skills ❤
I saw them live in Seattle in 1972. Right up front, festival seating, couldn't hear for 3 days after the concert!
That is awesome!! Thanks for sharing! 🔥
You never lose with Led Zeppelin. One of .my favourite bands ever!!! Fantastic always.

If you love Bonham you must check out In My Time of Dying live from anywhere in the early 70’s. His drumming on that track is next level
Probably their finest performance ever.
I think you're suffering from perceptual distortion. Stuck on LSD?
Allot of improve from Zep live, they didn't want to play things the same, they said it got boring. Love your enthusiasm.

Definitely Stairway @MSG is great and different than Earls Court. BTW, there is a 34 minute version of Dazed and Confused that is amazing to see.
