trippin' on shrooms - North Cascades NP, WA, episode 5 (Sept. 2024)

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- I made the climb up the switchbacks to the ridge at Cascade Pass and back down just before another storm rolled in. I did not eat any of the mushrooms (it's a metaphor).
Side note: My sincerest apologies for the clip with terrible audio after the hike! I promise the days of yucky sound quality are nearly done on this channel forever...

The mushroom at 6:37 is an Animita Muscaria. These are said to be edible, but they have strychnine and can make you very sick or even kill you. The second one at 14:36 looks like a Psilobybin Cubensis (magic mushroom) but it might be a poisonous imitator. Always use a positive identification method (usually gill patterns make the difference). Still, if a mushroom has psilocybin in it it will turn blue soon after bruising or bending the stem. People should always be careful about taking mushrooms in the wild.
A. muscaria doesn't contain strychnine! They do have muscimol and ibotenic acid, which are mildly hallucinogenic and may cause a type of delirium. They can be rendered edible by boiling and throwing away the water, and boiling again. They're not great to eat, and in my experience, not great for tripping. They are VERY pretty and are best left for the flies and slugs to eat.
Amanita Muscaria or fly agaric is indeed poisonous. The second mushroom is at 14:05 and a third at 14:26. You need to be a bit more precise as to the time on videos if you intend to post more on this subject. It's not a casual matter, as many mushroom species are poisonous.
@@geoffreyeble32 Yes, raw A. muscaria ARE poisonous - but have bee used for aeons as an intoxicant, safely, and can be rendered edible in the way that I describe.
Relatively few UK mushrooms are 'deadly poisonous', many are unpalatable (such as being bitter) but won't harm you if ingested, and relatively few are 'choice edibles'.
Psilocybin cubensis mushrooms will turn purple(bruise) when you pick them. The stem will bruise. The also have a fat stem . Top of mushroom will look like a areola or breast.
@@compostjohn Four things. First, this isn't the U.K. It's the Pacific Northwest of the United States, specifically North Cascades National Park. There are 1,400 different species of mushrooms in Washington State and 450 in Alaska, where I live.
Second, I can Google stuff, too. Your info is almost word for word AI response to such a search for A. muscaria. However, Amanita grows in my backyard naturally and on the trails around here, so I'm also directly aware of it and other types of mushrooms.
Third, since A. muscaria and many other wild mushrooms are indeed poisonous, some more than others, it's exceedingly bad advice to urge people you don't even know to eat them, no matter how they're prepared.
Fourth, I would >never< take advice from some internet stranger on how to identify or prepare wild mushrooms for consumption! I'd take a class, read a credible field guide or possibly trust a friend or family member, but not you or anyone else online.
UA-cam knows me all to well. Trippin Shrooms, those mountains, and that smile. Yeah, definitely watching this 👌 Before I even clicked the vid, it brought me so much joy, because I knew how much fun you were gonna have. Perfection
I like your videos because u take time to actually film things you can read and see. Thankyousoverymuch!
Stunning scenery in this video, I live in central Kentucky n it’s beautiful here with all the hills hollers n streams but Northern Cascades National Park are stunning n most I’ve ever seen of em so thank you for sharing
You experienced a beautiful part of our state! I'm hiking and camping around that area just about every weekend. Great cinematography! Thanks for sharing your great adventure!
What a stunning trail!😮 Beautiful views , magnificent tall trees and awesome glacier.! A great hike!😅
The view down the other side of the pass is the Stehekin River Valley. You were about 20 miles from Lake Chelan. the PCT meets up around 15 miles down the Stehekin trail. the trail continues up to Sahale Arm and beyond to the north. Really spectacular country. It also goes over Mt Johannesburg to the south but I never could see where that trail could be located. That is tough country. Very nice hike. Good to get out of there when the weather turns because it can get nasty any time of year.
You have to be the most sweetest and laid back person I've seen on UA-cam lately! Absolutely love the Views of those stunning and serene Cascade mountains!!!
You have a new Sub here & looking forward to many more of your amazing Hikes. Thank you for taking us along with you. I absolutely appreciate & enjoyed every moment of this hike!! 😅😂🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
Hit on content creators much? 😂✌Well, I don't blame ya!
Ok, you got me with the tripping on shrooms part. I have had some amazing hikes where I really was tripping on shrooms. I highly recommend it. Having said that, thank you for taking me on your walk with you, that was so beautiful. I'm stuck in NYC at the moment working, but Next year I'll be done and I'm planning on doing a solo cross country trip. there's only 3 states I have never been too, WA, OR, AK. From your video, it looks like I'm saving the best for last, so gorgeous.
I have tripped on shrooms and super dose of Kratom together and gone for an epic nature walk i lost track of how far i walked int0 wonderland enjoying all the sights and sounds. Next day i checked my Pedometer with sat gps and it ends up i hiked 25 miles in my back yard.
@@BIG_CHEVY_BOWSKIE_MIKE 🤣Epic! Is your backyard a National Park?
Nature and attention to detail complement each other beautifully and create some of the best pictures and videos.
I've been exactly where you went on this video. I love that bridge @2:53. In the winter it's a very sketchy route.
At the overlook...You passed by Cascade Community Club on Cascade River Rd. I raised my family there. It's completely off grid. I went to that place many many times. I liked to ride my dirt bike in the National Forest. Explore the different trails. That's little waterfall @16:33. I spent many moments there smokin a doobie. This time of year is nice because less crowds. The tourists are home for the season. Kia League was a bright young girl at 15 years old. By 16 she was driving and pulled over for having pot in the car. That lead her to commit suicide months later. In her car with the legal paperwork scattered about. She put the rifle to head head and pulled the trigger. He mother had so made her feel her life was over. That Kia ended it over nothing. Her abusive mother who had clinical mental health issues that ran through the family.
The lesson is this. Nothing is that big of a deal. Get off your kids backs and support them. WHOMEVER they have become. Stop hating.
I grew up 10 minutes from the entrance to this national park this should be a particularly good video to watch
Catchy title; it certainly got my mind racing! We can't help but be curious; no matter if we like fun guys or not. 🍄
Beautiful view, very amazing! And love that beautiful smile at the viewpoint.
Beautiful country. Thanks for sharing.
Laura this hike was one of your best . That canyon was spectacular. That first shroom looked like something from Avatar. Safe Travels ✌️
WOW... been awhile since I've been to Casecade Pass.. I was shocked at how little of the glaciers remain on Johannesburg Mtn. That's about 10% of what they were 50 years ago!! My father manned one of the FS Lookouts near there about 1940. Still a beautiful place to visit, but often overcrowded on the weekends! Thanks for posting!
crazy how fast things change, would love to see photos of what it looked like back then.
Thank you for your effort and showing us the amazing scenery. Goldilocks, you are the real deal. I used to hike years ago but mostly cycle now, my feet have a hard time with long hikes. What I recall is that on the Tuolumne Meadows trail in the Sierra Nevada the uphill was the usual challenge with calories and trudgery, but the downhill can be really tough because of (lack of) conditioning and the impacts on knees and feet. I would love to hike with you and some friends, yet have to do so vicariously! ♥🌲🏔🥾
Awesome hike! Grew up in Kitsap County and so much to do and see within 2hrs of home!
That was a nice hike and we got to see several shrooms.
Deceiving title. Good scenery.
Way back in the '70s I lived in northern Idaho as I went to U of I in Moscow. Everyone kept telling me I had to go to the North Cascades to see it and hike it. Now 50 years later I see your film and it is clearly visible what they were talking about and what I missed. Thank you. Keep up your good work. It's good stuff! 🙂
Love that region. I had to get out and walk one of those old bridges to see the lattice work on the rails, last year. You benefit not matter the auto challenges! So many don't get out and miss out.
Looks like a gorgeous hike. Thanks for sharing.
I must confess that I only tuned in to watch your solo “trip” and although the scenery was grand, I was a little disappointed to see you do it straight as an arrow. But I digress, you’re doing a great job! ☺️
Yes mam, better to be safe than sorry in that country!very nice views!thanks and be safe out there!
Thanks for sharing ur hike .That One lane bridge with a light is where we got out of the river from floating down in a big long canoe with Chinook Expeditions it was amazing I love bet that area it so beautiful
BEAUTIFUL scenery🤩🙌. The NW is gods country.
Not anymore 10 million people. I’m a logger. We’re in the cascades cutting now. 3 years ago this was national park. Not enough space for population.
Came for the psychedelics, stayed for the views. 10/10.
You must be in excellent condition! That was a heck of a hike.
A low pressure tire warning usually means the batteries are dead in the valve stems. (an expensive fix) If you check with a simple normal hand held pressure gauge and it reads ok. Then ignore the warning. Modern cars are over complicated. Plus tire pressures vary about 4 pounds between hot and cold conditions. Don`t freak if there is a 4 pound difference. If you get below 30 pounds then you might have a problem.
Lovely reveal! My 2000 Corolla makes it in and out of places where it has no business, but I'm always prepared for the worst. Indeed, it's solo in the Toyota or it's not happening. Clearance, I just wish I had some clearance! I wish you more clearance someday. :)
Stunning scenery! Thx for taking us along
Thanks for liking my complements on your cinema photographic prowess.
A girl who likes to hike is my kind of girl! Absolutely love the North Cascades. We visit twice a yr. June and September I'm hiking a trail somewhere up that mountain
Those views look like New Zealand. Like straight out of Lord of the Rings. Beautiful. Lucky!
Cool video, thanks! Tire pressure light could have been due to the elevation. I would reset and see if it comes back on.
Sometimes it's so crazy seeing people making videos about places I just casually drive to. I love going to Darrington just to look at White Horse Mountain. Simply gorgeous.
Beautiful country. Thanks for filming it!
I was expecting something more or something different from "trippin on shrooms." You got me there!
You did seem to have an easy trail. Not too steep. I thought the trail itself was really, really cool. Every 10 feet was something new and beautiful to check out. Incredible and Awesome far away views too thanks to Mother Nature. That landscape on the ridge that you were hiking towards was really cool with its wildflowers, textures and colors. Through your video the rain you experienced enhanced my whole experience. Great choice. Thanks
thanks! I had a little too much fun with the play on words 😜 I was indeed tripping on the epic scenery though!
No problem. I still totally enjoyed your video. Thanks again.@@goldilocks_walks
That's amazing..I need that in my life right about now
Nice hike. I will add this to my destinations for 2025.
New sub from Everett, WA
This is very cool. Thank you for sharing.
Perfect place for Shrooms...👍😎🤙
Amazing
Thanks so much for the hiking inspiration!
Hey there, I feel as if you went a short distance further up Salale Arm to the ridge you would have gotten a gorgeous view of Doubtful Lake, but I completely understand your time constraints that was clearly emphasized by the darkness on your drive back to Seattle. As a Washington resident, I am fascinated by all these high elevation glacier lakes. I cannot wait to explore the Mount Hood area this upcoming year and hope to begin my major hiking explorations. For right now locally, I am exploring the southern rim of the Selkirks!
Time restraint I don’t think she has much problem with managing her time or the lack thereof.… After all she had to stop and replace her toothbrush because she dropped it
Sahale Arm was my original goal!! but yes there were several factors that led to my inability to get all the way up there that day. Going back is definitely not something I'm avoiding 😉
Rain and darkness and Bears , oh My !!💀🤣🏔️
I was born out there, man I miss it.
Thanks for the hike. Beautiful views. Very nice for landscape & nature/macro photography. I would probably need a few days & camping supplies to go 8-15 miles if going with camera gear. T-O-S, = Haven't heard anyone use those words in a couple of decades.
Man I was so prepared to watch someone happily trip out on magic mushrooms while hiking ... psyche
its a really great video
How about someone sober not altered up while hiking ? .... Psyche
@@plutoplatters hahah, wake up and take a look in your YT feed, they are everywhere! ... PSYCHE!
That’s why I watched

I DEFFF WANNA SEE THAT TRAIL NOW \M/
There are 32 switchbacks getting up to Cascade Pass. One of the most popular hikes in the cascades. Really nice.
That's nature, I recognize the acoutrements
I could be wrong, but I believe oxygen levels same at high altitude, but the the air pressure is much lower so we can't absorb as much as sea level ?
the algorithm has been pushing this video on me for the past couple weeks and today i finally gave in ffs…
Absolutely amazing country!!! I'm in the midwest. Is there any risk of large predators on these hiking trails (bear/ mountain lion)??
North Cascades is the best NP in the lower 48 and certainly the most underrated. The combination of scenery and relatively few people make it that great.
I was born and raised in the North Cascades area and Im like Meh.. but when I visit the NPs in Utah my mind is blown.. Im sure it would be a complete 180 if I was raised in Utah..They are all great!
@@drewpknutz1410
One huge difference between the North Cascades (well really all the cascades in Washington as well as the Olympic NP) and any area in Utah (or anything in the rockies for that matter) is the much heavier precipitation but that means the forests will be much thicker, there will be a much heavier snowpack which will lead to more snowclad peaks and more runoff leading to more cascades, waterfalls and roaring rivers. All that IMO lead to huge advantages when it comes to scenery.
What does NP stand for? Thanks
@KingZu-f5v national park
@drewpknutz1410 thank you.
I have beat my car half to death on the mountain roads and i find it fun except for once being stuck and it was getting dark and cold and very quite . .
I felt the need to get myself unstuck as quickly possible and had to return the next day to find some things that fell out of the car .
Then i made to my destination and the veiw there was some one there already enjoying the view.
They appreciate and were greatful as well to be able to just be there ..
Its also in Wa .
I know years ago I had been inthe area your in , in this video but I had no clue what had I missed until now .
I need to go there sometime .
Thanks for the view ...
Welcome to my state. This is the best part! Cascades!
One thing that really helps is to advertise these magnificent places. They definitely need crowds of hikers jamming the trails and quiet wilderness.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. Yep.
sharing is caring, and the great outdoors is for everyone! :)
The Cascades are a well known national park.
Maybe you could use a hike! It cleanses the bitterness from your soul. 😌
You can find a park near you at www.nps.gov. Happy hiking! 😊
@@goldilocks_walks Thank you for sharing! I am far away in the Appalachians.
Enjoy the journey!
PSA: Practice LNT and please dont feed the trolls 😛
Apparently you have not been to Yellowstone or Yosemite.
Aminita are amazing mushrooms. Largest tha grew below some Grand Fur trees I had were 18" across! Avalanch snowpack all over those ridges. Nice moderate elivation. BTW clever title 😊
Love that you got to explore my home stomping grounds!☺️

No trippin that I detected.
I'm here for the tripping😂
She baited us good
Go get 'em Laura! Thanks for another! In 1970 I did a few trips with one other partner, and one trip with 29 other H.S. Seniors and Juniors like my self. Five days of the two week trek were all above the timberline. Sleeping on a boulder, no tent, next to a glacial lake at 10.5K feet. The memories you've built will keep you absolutely forever! Oh... thanks for being cautious. I've been caught in true "killer" weather. Yep... not a good day, um rather not a good night.
Been on a few camping trips up the cascade river valley. The full hike through the pass was always on my list. A person could spend
an entire life wandering around Gods country in the late spring to early fall. It gets pretty snowed in the rest of the year. .
Definitely bear country. Make big noise hiking up there.also some great berry patches around there. Always be prepared to spend the night even if you are just going day hiking. Stuff happens.
You are one amazing lady Beautiful, confident and intelligent
Love the vid. You're an awesome "wild" child. Btw love you to keep doing what you do so don't worry about looking at us when you're driving. You're much more important besides youll strengthen your side eye engagement 😂 Totally mean this with love. Had a family member go over the side of a cliff because he wasn't paying attention and hit a soft shoulder.
Ok now you're more than welcome to hit me with a mind yer own business. But if I didn't think you're awesome I'd say keep giving us face.
😂😂😂
Looks like a place that the guy with big feet resides 😁 good video thanks for posting 👍💪
It is!
Great video. If you're ever on this side of the mountains in Spokane hmu . I'll eat a few caps :)
Never hike alone
buuuuhhh
why
@@goldilocks_walks hiking alone is fine. just tell people where going and when getting back. gps tech is fine too. dont do anything dumb like ice climbing alone
Lol true
@@goldilocks_walkstake a compass if u can use it properly
Note...the N Cacades are mudh more rugged than to the south around Mt. Rainier. Always watch for falling rocks on mtn roads
that area is amazing! another great hike is the PCT further down the road. p.s. did i spot a calpoly shirt?
I was thinking it’d be a psychedelic trip in the forest. Maybe a freak out bad trip or something?
bad trip 😳
it was an epic trip
Lady, I’m always alone and I work with what I got but thanks for reminding me about how I don’t have access to mushrooms you say you don’t have nothing you know where to get mushrooms from you obviously got something. I’m in my early 20s and I’ve been trying to get my hands on magic mushrooms for years. It’s sickening that everyone else gets to experience them.
Poor feller😢
@ I know man it’s like what’s the guy supposed to do? I’m searching and searching. I love to travel that’s not the point it’s it’s the journey it’s not about me. It’s to navigate through like holy frick man. Why do I even bother?
I hear everything is legal in Oregon but I've never looked.
@@goldilocks_walks that wouldn’t surprise me, but you can also see how Oregon is going downhill. That’s not the only reason it is there’s more than one conclusion but when you put it together, yeah but if you’re a traveler, it be good to go get your hands on it and then get out of there. Good to know thoughthat’s why I ask around some people. They think you’re trying to expose them. It’s like nope I’m just trying to get some experience in and experimenting not with controlled substances because that doesn’t solve anything but just live a passive life we get it.
That opening rest area lol right before hwy 18 lock your doors there seriously
If you want to know what someone is going to be like as a partner in life .. give them a stress test .. take them on a long hike up a mountain .. and listen to their words .. are they complaining or enjoying the moment? Sept. 22 is my birthday .. and my wife's name is Laura (for real). ❣
I live in Concrete, which is about 10 miles from the trailhead on HWY 20. I have a 4×4. Im a nice person. I could really use a hiking partner.
What do you call a mushroom with a 9 inch stem? A fungi to be with.
That's an awesome hike, worth going higher up next time! I have a video on my page about camping at the glacier campground, and seeing tons of mountain goats and a one-eyed black bear 😃🤙
Charcoal Filter good time for brush rub! All the way time! Pure water lovely! 👨🏽🦼
I had a healthy plant based friend who went months without brushing his teeth. Nothing happened.
Born and raised in the beautiful PNW lush green forest and smells so good...moss and ferns and clear fresh streams. U never tasted such pure water. Make sure u are upstream from animal pastures. Frankly, I am too lazy to hike. that many miles 😮. I like to drive the car up, park it to find short paths. And u don't want to get stuck in ever changing high altitude weather. Don't go unarmed...bears, cougars, injuries or creepy people. Just be wise and ongaurd. The wildernesss is not for the novice. If not sure about water health safety, get chlorine tablets at a camping store
Great view of the trail and surrounding areas and less
of you in comparison to other hikers I've seen. Some hikers will go through the whole video with the camera in there face as they hike. That's not what I look for.
I watch a lot of ( I rather be hiking ,
Desert drifter and Action adventure twins ). They show so much scenery I can watch it without sound .
The glaciers are a lot smaller than they were thirty years ago.
I noticed that myself.
I think about this a lot... not necessarily here (because it was my first visit) but many of the other spots I've been to...
Don't know if I'd wanna be trippin', and run into a Sasquatch.
Southern Utah, Redrock. Insanity on psychedelics.
How do you find yourself in the mountains on shrooms. I need to fogure this thing out
must be good shrooms
@goldilocks_walks take a trip and never leave the house
That one flush of white mushrooms with the small red ones looked a lot like oysters. Not really sure
Good stuff!
keep 0N truckin’…
What got you into backpacking?
so many things! books, videos, conversations...
ha! up front personal latte and bagel. Smooth movements.
I bet if I had my camera phone I could take a picture and identify the mushrooms that you saw, pretty crazy huh I wonder if it would work
unfortunately that kind of access isn't usually possible out in the backcountry, but I check when I have signal!
@goldilocks_walks i wonder if i could do it from my home identify the mushrooms
the iPhone has a feature that when connected to internet, you just swipe up on the photo and the AI will tell you what kind of plant/animal/place/etc the subject of the photo is :)
@goldilocks_walks can I take a picture on your video that you showed of the mushrooms and identify it, I'm sure it would work
I love you. Watch out for Bigfoot & Dogman.
I was expecting to see some real Tripping, and I don't mean tripping over a Shroom and falling down the Mountain, but that could be entertaining too.
Yeah, it wasn’t much of a video I grew up in this area I grew up on the left-hand side of the United States.… I love how people say it looks like it’s out of Lord of the rings I’m such a prude I take all of it for granted a grew up in it I made sure I knew all about it thank God I appreciate it so many people live in it and don’t have any idea what it is
