Agree - very interesting to see the infrastructure that keeps potatoes viable in storage. One thing I can’t help mentioning is there is no ‘t’ in ‘plenum’… it’s a pretty common term in automotive and HVAC circles. Not making fun, but my grandma was a stickler for grammar - I can’t help it.
I grew up in Idaho on a potato, onion, sugar beets, mint farm. Now in my late 40’s I love this channel because it brings back a great childhood ❤ Another Great Video 👍 Great content, keep up the great work!

Unless you've worked on a farm or at least visited one, most people don't understand how much work goes into it. Not just anyone can do it. I lived on a little family garden farm just for us canning and freezing. To do things at that scale, it's incredible. Thank you so much for this gem. I'll watch your other vids too. I'm so hooked on these videos now especially being a 57 year old guy who has many family members up in the Fort Kent area and had seen these barns and storage building growing up and driving up from Conn all my life. Most of those kind of barns are so old and collapsing now. Hearing some of the stores from my parents and they would shut down school for two weeks and pick potatoes to me that is crazy but that is the life up there. Absolutely love how you broke down the video how they stay fresh because I know when I buy a bag and leave it on the floor for a week or two I'm starting my own farm...hahaha Thank u again and I know I only been a fan for 2 months but I'm loving it!

That structure and it’s components and systems, looks lIke a well engineered high tech end result of a combination of years of trial and error, married to a modern HVAC digital control system, that maximizes economy, product quality and shelf life. Shane’s praise of the concrete work in there is very well justified, very few contractors could pull off that amount of grade changes and drainage. Not to mention on the video it looked like very little cracking. It was a surprise for me to see a such a technologically advanced multi-use facility on a generational family farm. Thanks, great video, again!

Very interesting you guys thanks for sharing this video. I know a little about the ventilation systems I work up in the county over in Easton to convert a sugar beat silo over to store oats. We stayed in Presque Isle and that's where I met my wife she was a County girl who used to work on the harvesters when she was young.

I loved that vlog loads, it was so informative - I never knew so much went in to spud storage. Molly you such a do it all go getter with a super can do attitude - i love you to bits. Shane is such a good man but looks so serious lol. I have enjoyed and look forward to your working vlogs as farmers they are great, I come from animal small holding family stock myself long ago, my great grandad used to work on arable farming as a hired hand i guess.

Really interesting, thanks for the tour! I grow my own spuds and store them in a garden cellar I built. Lots of humidity and it never freezes in there in winter. The spuds seem to keep really well.
@@BellsFarming Tiny, 7' by 3'. I can get all my spuds and root veg in there. I had to build a big retaining wall out of natural rocks and I incorporated the cellar into the wall so it's a really nice feature and it works!
Great video! This is very interesting. Of all the technology advancements, this building is simple, rough cut, and working exactly as intended. It has probably been this way for decades. Only the control panel suggests newer advancements. But, same physics as decades ago - cold air, humidity, fans for pushing air, air movement from higher pressure to lower pressure. I presume the culverts have been modified with holes drilled in three positions around the unit. Tried and true - it works! P.S. Been carrying O-light i5T-EOS in my pocket for the last two years. I do not know how lived without it! I use it many times each week. I acted on recommendation from Andy, FF&F. I've given several as gifts.

I work on variable frequency drives (almost exclusively Danfoss brand) for a living, so it was interesting to see them implemented into your operation. I also have seen them on some other channels videos where they use them for the pump system on field irrigation pivots.

I am not familiar with the agricultural use cases as I deal primarily in commercial building HVAC systems with a few residential applications such as front yard water features. Yes , we use a lot of VFD s, we do have a large irrigation pump that uses a big one ( like 60 hp). But they are utilized a lot for conveyor speed adjustment and also as phase converters( we only have single phase power) . I’ll remember to point them out in other videos. Thanks for watching!

I typically work on anywhere between 1½hp and 300hp 3phase 480v drives used for exhaust fans, supply and return fans and cooling/heating pumps with some cooling tower fans mixed in that use the same media that your humidifier uses to cool condenser water coming out of a chiller plant. Thanks for taking the time to reply and I will look out for your future mentions of your specific use cases.

Been watching your vids a couple months now, very interesting. Made the 15 hr drive from WV yesterday to Caribou to snowmobile this week. Looked up Buck construction to see where it is up here, we rode through Mapleton today. Now I know what a Mainer means when they say the county. I own a body shop and your air unit has a lot of similarities to my spray booth

Reds…… there’s a love/hate relationship there haha. Most of our regular practices will grow good reds too, however there are a few tricks if you will to get better color on reds however
Ok, it looks like you’re going to answer all my questions about how the sweet corn gets to my table. I knew my local farmers picked it and sold it at their stand but always wondered about bulk sweet corn. I’m glad I stumbled upon your channel.😄

How interesting could potato growing be, put them in dirt then pull them out of dirt. 😂😂😂 Now you imply you grow sweet corn on a large scale. I can’t wait to see how that works. All the channels I watch grow corn for live stock or Ethanol.
@@jeffreyshier9021 hey thanks for being honest! Sweet corn! Yes we grow as many acres of sweet corn as we do potatoes for the most part. It is a pretty cool operation. Yeah I don’t think there are many sweet corn farmers on you tube that don’t use migrant worker to hand pick in the field. I think you guys will enjoy seeing that whole process.
When I first started watching I wondered many things. How do they control moisture, what humidity is it that keeps the potatoes from drying out yet low enough to keep bacterial growth in check. My neighbor, Potato King, has an underground facility to store their potatoes and onions and it isn't as simple as one might think to keep the produce usable. Thanks for the tour!

Been watching your vids a couple months now, very interesting. Made the 15 hr drive from WV yesterday to Caribou to snowmobile this week. Looked up Buck construction to see where it is up here, we rode through Mapleton today. Now I know what a Mainer means when they say the county. I own a body shop and your air unit has a lot of similarities to my spray booth

Reds…… there’s a love/hate relationship there haha. Most of our regular practices will grow good reds too, however there are a few tricks if you will to get better color on reds however

Now you imply you grow sweet corn on a large scale. I can’t wait to see how that works. All the channels I watch grow corn for live stock or Ethanol.

Sweet corn! Yes we grow as many acres of sweet corn as we do potatoes for the most part. It is a pretty cool operation. Yeah I don’t think there are many sweet corn farmers on you tube that don’t use migrant worker to hand pick in the field. I think you guys will enjoy seeing that whole process.

When I first started watching I wondered many things. How do they control moisture, what humidity is it that keeps the potatoes from drying out yet low enough to keep bacterial growth in check. My neighbor, Potato King, has an underground facility to store their potatoes and onions and it isn't as simple as one might think to keep the produce usable.
