I love watching you Quilt ...it actually puts me to sleep...I guess that doesn't sound right...but it is so relaxing to watch. I seem to tense up when I am Free motion quilting...is there a secret to relaxing. I would also love if you could sometime tell us how your grandfather got into quilting.
It's almost like meditation to watch someone else quilting....I totally undertand what you mean! Grandpa learned how to quilt from him mom when he was young.

Hi Angela, from way up in the land of ice....er, heat wave, same as everywhere else is having, right now. lol (a place called Barnesville, NB). I LOVE the straight line free motion quilting! I have tried and tried and tried some more to do swirls, circles, leaves..the letter C...but it all looks like a three year old scribbled all over the place..but these straight lines. OMG, LOVE LOVE LOVE! thank you soo much for this tutorial (challenge) :)
I love using the rulers for this design. It makes those "straightish" lines actually straight.. Otherwise mine would be curved. or I could be ahead and do the wavy lines...

This is perhaps one of my favorite of quilt designs, because it is a somewhat organized methodogy, and I like organization. (It's the perfectionist in me.) I really like how slowly you work in these videos and talk us through the designs, it allows me to better understand the mechanics of the design. Thanks!!
I'm just getting started with machine quilting, so unsure of what design to sew on what pieced top. Angela is helping me to understand better. I'm a good copier, just not too creative on my own in this part of art work.Any suggestions are welcomed!
This was so much easier than it looked! The only problem I seemed to have wAs when I went “home” and then had to scootch over a 1/4” to start the next wedge. Is there a way to make it so those few lines disappear more? Does that make sense? Thanks so much for this learning challenge, I’m having a blast!

I don't use a stitch regulator. practice will help you make your stitches more consistent in size. Try not to worry about it while you are still learning the design!
I am starting quilting. My mom did all hand quilting. I want to learn hand but machine is the way I want to go so I feel I did it myself. Watching you to see how to do this. What would you suggest for a beginner
Do you ever use any kind of tape or sticky stuff to the bottom of your rulers to keep them from moving? If so, what? When you fmq with rulers, where do you place the most pressure on your hand with the ruler? Strange question, but I find myself switching from pressing harder on the ruler, then not being able to move my quilt well. If I place it in the fingertips, I lose the ruler. Any special way you hold it? Thanks !!
How come you don’t have pins in the quilt to hold it down. Even with my safety pins it looks like it wants to bunch up. I noticed your quilting looks so smooth. What am I doing wrong.

Angela, I am a new quilter, just learning free motion. I purchased archie and slim, tried using archie and i realized my screw for the foot blocks it from the quilting foot, i have a low shank on a brother 3500D. I also noticed i can not put the template behind the foot either . what do i do
Deb Scalice use the rulers to the front and one (probably your right) side. Thinner rulers will fit in all the areas, but you’ve already invested in some thicker ones and they’ll work great. You just have to learn where you can’t use them and adapt your quilting. It can still be fast and precise.

I'm having trouble visualizing it, but one thing you could do is quilt smaller wedges so that there are more lines, it will help hide them.

This is my style...nice straightish lines! With a ruler! Yay. But pages 2 and 3 of the linked diagrams pdf are blank.
They are supposed to be, it's just a one page PDF. I forgot to remove the other blank pages, use them for drawing!
Do you do free hand quilting for people?
How do you handle it when your bobbin runs out ?
How do you keep from getting bunched up underneath.. I always get so many bottom ripples.. and I pin like crazy
I spray baste my quilts
I like fusible batting, you could also work from the center out. Sometimes that helps prevent the tucks!

I have had a few people say that they switched out the screw for a smaller one. Hope that helps!

It depends on whether or not you can live with it. I usually leave them on knowing that they will be hidden when the quilt is washed and dried.
