It seems like these old flat heads seem to have issues with overheating. It took me awhile to get my 42 to run at a temp. that I feel comfortable taking it out on hot days. My problem was mainly due to a couple of clogged tubes in the radiator. Everytime l see pics or videos of jeeps with all kind of things strapped to the front bumper I can't help but think how they aren't overheating .
Agreed...it is the nature of the beast. These are tremendously robust little engines...but they need to be treated with respect for sure. Remember the US military used them effectively in the deserts during WWII
Obviously without being there I cant know. Things to check (from my experience), is the radiator in good condition? It can become clogged over time. Is there a thermostat in the housing? Are the hoses in good condition? Is there a fan shroud? Are the felt radiator deflectors still installed or missing. Timing could be off. I did several vids describing my journey to cool my cj2.
Thanks for posting this. I'll be doing the cooling on my '47 this summer. Looking forward to your next vid.
Thanks JW. Hope it all helps. I learned a lot about these old jeeps working this problem.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
GOOD INFO .
Thanks Earl
