The fan shroud should be wider. I don't know if that is a reproduction on your 2a. The MB and 2a had a very similar style shroud. The 3a was almost twice the width. I have a 3a, and I never had a cooling issue. When I build hot rods or swap out for old school v8s, the shroud is very important in the cooling department. Very nice Jeeps and videos. I appreciate the content. Thank you.

Both of the radiators for the MB and CJ2A are original to the jeeps and are the same size. What was available was an extension shroud that extend the original shroud out over the fan blades to help bring in more air. Frankly, since I did all the work on the Cj's coolant system, I havnt had the opportunity to drive it any distance to test all the upgrades that I did (that story coming in a future video). Thanks for watching and commenting. I love the networking the channel gives me.

You are missing the small 'V' channel that bolts to the hood hinge and keeps water from dripping onto the engine and filling up the recessed sparkplugs. Easy to make one. Been caught in the rain a few times.

Neat to see the old and new footage

Yeah kinda cool. Like to think I have improved since those vids nearly 10 years ago

Hey Bill, in video #2 you discovered that the top hose seemed to be dry as if the cooling system was not circulating as it should. Did you find out the cause? My guess would be a bad water pump or clogged engine block or radiator.

No...never did (I was thinking the same thing when I did the re-edit on the video). After we had the radiator checked and put the new thermostat in, the engine was cooling better. I did replace the water pump only a short time later. I would have to pull the thermostat horn again to discover if it was still dry...but I am believing it is working fine as you can tell by the infrared temp gauge. Also I need to remember that I filmed that almost 10 years ago...damn!!!

This may sound crazy, but try a hotter thermostat, say a 175⁰ or 180⁰. Sometimes, if the stat is too cool, it opens non-stop, and the coolant doesn't spend enough time in the radiator to actually cool down. Also, i always drill a small bleeder hole in the thermostat to allow air pockets to escape. I'm not sure if you did, I couldn't see it in the video, but that style housing looks like it would encourage cavitation in the area between the thermostat and top of the head.

When I started Jason, there wasnt any thermostat in the jeep...it was open flow. I had heard about the small bleed hole, and frankly cant remember 10 years later if I drilled it or not 🤥

Hello Bill, I think you may need to make a proper Fan Shroud. Your cooling fan is behind the shroud and therefore drawing air from behind the radiator instead of through the radiator.

Or you could use a longer prop shaft on the fan?!?

You do make an interesting point. The fan on the CJ2 is about 1 inch further back from the radiator than the MB. Ill have to ponder this one.
