your a very knowledgeable young man, over the years ive really enjoyed watching your vids and learning about foraging and fishing you never stop learning,,im 70+ and it helps me to forget whats been going on around me in these horrible times so keep it up john.
This video reminds me that we often don’t look at the beautiful small details of life. So much beauty and life that goes unnoticed. We are truly blessed.
You just can’t beat a feast of a bucket of mussels; some French baguettes and a good glass of Sauvignon Blanc. A simple yet stunning meal to be shared with family and friends!!
It's a simple, wholesome, sustainable fast food tbh and far better than any other fast food you're going to get. I love living in France now and having mussels regularly. 30 mins and they're done tops. Warm baguette, crisp white wine. Can't beat it. However this guy and his wife, they're missing some awesome meals by not liking the oysters.
Mate, that looked delicious! Being from Italian heritage, I place the clean mussels in a pot with plenty of garlic, parsley, black pepper, extra virgin olive oil, some chilli (optional), a dash of dry white wine and steam them till they open, meanwhile a pot of salted water on the boil for your choice of spaghetti/linguine. When the spaghetti is coooked, drain and toss in with the mussels and serve. Real simple but tasty. Same recipe works with any shell fish and also calamari. Bit of ripe diced tomato can also be added to the pot if you like a bit more sweetness. Give it a try!
I've only fairly recently discovered your channel, and quickly fallen in love with it. Not only for the fascinating tours down the Cornish coast, botany, ornithology and marine biology lessons, but I can't help but love your profound respect for nature and how caring and interactive a parent you are. The broth from Mussels cooked in most things is just Mmmmm - Mopped up with good bread and they can be found easily around the coast as long as you get them from clean water and at the right time of year as the Fish Locker family have said! Good fishing bait as well!

And I dont have that luxury although I find it fascinating and im so envious of those of you who can. I hope you don't mind but a quick story - first ever trip abroad (Mid 70's - the year) Me Dad was an angler btw. Pitched the tent and went for our first meal in Brittany. Moules all around and they brought out a bowl of water with lemons in for free. Me dad scranned his Mussels and drank the lemon water, smacked his lips and patted his belly. I told him I thought the water was for weshing your fingers in. He looked around and whispered "I think your right"
Family out on a Winters day foraging a lot better than sitting indoors complaining about the weather. Great content as always and a great Cook up thanks as always for posting, one ray of light during this pandemic.
Oh boy, Spargo's going to be in trouble, Hereford cider and Cornish mussels! Lovely cider but it makes my legs go funny. Happy Christmas to you and yours, keep safe.
I think I'm gonna have to move to Cornwall, even though I live by the sea in sweden we don't have that kinda sealife on the beaches where I live(maybe on the west coast) and you need a fishing license in most places here, which we have for fish for the whole family but not for shellfish, I'll have to look up the specific rules. We do have some crawfish/crayfish in some lakes where I live, but it's illegal to fish them without a permit.
- Sadly there are fewer and fewer of these locations left now Chris. Asian “picking gangs” are wiping our whole swathes of the U.K. coastline over the last few years. Completely picked clean.
Reminds me of when I grew up in Newfoundland and beach combing for such delicious morsels that the ocean would provide. Can’t wait to go home again and do this again.
I cannot believe how rich your marine life is, where I live everything has been stripped bare, even the starfish have been picked. I used to see groups of them four or five each holding a big white bucket and filling them to the brim with everything that moved of any size. On some of the rocks, even that beady seaweed has disappeared.
@@TheFishLocker I get so angry with greedy ignorant people. I thank you for your very high quality and relaxing videos. All the best from Sydney and decimated Botany Bay.

This is a beautiful thing ! Food God gave us to gather at will .... so while I can not eat these , ( I get very sick from clams) I do love to make these for my friends. I do it similar.. I fry up garlic, onions white wine and steam them in it. When they open I remove them and add cream to the juice and add a little more wine and cook it off. At the very end I pour the juice over the plated clams and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley and serve with crusty bread .... delicious so they tell me 😉

Sorry for being late! I got caught up with a few things. I really love mussels and your foraging videos! Cheers mate!
- Thats no problem. You can enjoy catching up with a few videos. 😊
Kudos to the chef. The spatula smacking king of all things fish!
- 😊
You and your family have a happy and safe Christmas . 😁
- Thank you Micky. Best wishes to you and yours mate. 😊
god i wish i lived near seaside areas. i like fishing, swimming, and collecting stuff.
- We love living near the coast. 😊
Hi John Having never tried a Mussel i can say i would try one after seeing this video, you are so lucky living near a sea that can provide everything you would need to eat the best of everything; by the way does your father in law have is own cafe/ eating place he knows his stuff.
All the best to you and the family. Manchester UK
- Jim has had several in his career but is winding down to retirement now. He’s been a master chef for decades. Best wishes mate. 😊
If you're in Manchester, why not go to Wales?? Go to Anglesey! It's not that far...
@@TheFishLocker it shows! Man knows his craft!👍

- Take care James. Best wishes to you and your family and have a wonderful Christmas. 😊💙
He looked around and whispered "I think your right"
- I have seen people do exactly that. Haha. 😊
Family out on a Winters day foraging a lot better than sitting indoors complaining about the weather. Great content as always and a great Cook up thanks as always for posting, one ray of light during this pandemic.
- Thats it mate, the world and your day is what you make it. 😊
Oh boy, Spargo's going to be in trouble, Hereford cider and Cornish mussels! Lovely cider but it makes my legs go funny.
Happy Christmas to you and yours, keep safe.
- Haha. It wouldn't have been the same with Cornish Rattler!! 😛
Another good video love it when you do a cook up as get a lot of information and helps with what to do have with them
- I am glad you enjoy them Liz 😊
I think I'm gonna have to move to Cornwall, even though I live by the sea in sweden we don't have that kinda sealife on the beaches where I live(maybe on the west coast) and you need a fishing license in most places here, which we have for fish for the whole family but not for shellfish, I'll have to look up the specific rules. We do have some crawfish/crayfish in some lakes where I live, but it's illegal to fish them without a permit.
- It is a shame that unsustainable fishing/trapping in the past has seen the need for such heavy regulations here in Europe. 😔
From shore ...to pan ...to plate...
Top notch food....👍
- Just keeping it simple mate. Simple and honest. 😊
👍😎
Drooling at those mussel beds! Nothing like that exists around my way, such a shame as would love to do something like this
- Sadly there are fewer and fewer of these locations left now Chris. Asian “picking gangs” are wiping our whole swathes of the U.K. coastline over the last few years. Completely picked clean.
Reminds me of when I grew up in Newfoundland and beach combing for such delicious morsels that the ocean would provide. Can’t wait to go home again and do this again.
Sounds like you had a great childhood. 😊
I cannot believe how rich your marine life is, where I live everything has been stripped bare, even the starfish have been picked. I used to see groups of them four or five each holding a big white bucket and filling them to the brim with everything that moved of any size. On some of the rocks, even that beady seaweed has disappeared.
- Sadly that is the same here. We have roaming Asian "picking gangs" that completely decimate whole swathes of coastline in places. So very sad.
@@TheFishLocker I get so angry with greedy ignorant people. I thank you for your very high quality and relaxing videos. All the best from Sydney and decimated Botany Bay.
But...isn’t some of the stuff not even edible? I wouldn’t think starfish would be very tasty let alone safe
@@bigbossadidoss8678 Matey, that's exactly what I thought as well, but yes, they scrape off everything.
Hi love the way u stir the port without your spoon and accurate with your cooking you know what you about you remind me so much of my mother love from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
- I bet she was a wonderful cook. 😊 Have a wonderful day and best wishes. 💙🐚
@@TheFishLocker thank u
Really appreciative of the subtitles!
I am trying to work them through on other videos but it takes a very long time to write them.
I think the cooking part is just as good as the forage part. Dame, I am hungry when I watch this at mid night
- Jim is wonderful isn't he. Such a fantastic chef. 😊
Merry christmas to all the fish locker crew, please loads more vids in a hopefully happy new year.🌲🍾😀💎🍻🌲
- Thank you Christian. We will do our best. 😊
From start to finish this has been an interesting video. Seeing Jim cook the mussels made me hungry. You people eat a lot of seafood, it makes me very envious. It’s all good to see.
Jim is wonderful isn’t he. 😊😊
I love your foraging videos! I sometimes binge watch your videos bc of all the cool stuff you find lol I feel bad watching other ppls foraging videos bc i like yours so much XD anyways keep up the good job and Merry early Christmas!
- Really? I like binging on box sets too. Start one episode and before I know it it’s 0300am and time to go fishing 🤣
At the very end I pour the juice over the plated clams and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley and serve with crusty bread .... delicious so they tell me 😉
- That sounds delicious. You have very lucky friends. 😊
I love mussels. You should try japanese style baked mussels I think you'd love it
- I'll give that a google 😊
I love watching your videos with the family, nature is so wonderfully awesome and spectacular
We love spending time on the shore like this. 😊
In California, we call the beards on mussels “bistle threads” 😊🦪
- Thats a cool name. 😊
big thumbs up again to jims cooking skills.
- He is wonderful isn't he. 😊
Merry Christmas to you, Hannah and James
- Thank you Sean, best wishes to you to mate. 😊
