This is what I've always wanted, someone to walk along the beach and point out hidden life at low tide! Thank you so much!
this channel should be on the BBC. So good.
Sadly we do not tick enough boxes and we do not align with their political agenda.
I near wet myself when James yelled 'NO, I DONT WANT IT!' Too funny! He's getting so big and alot more expressive! 😂🥰
John, I don't care how many trips you make looking for scallops, clams, etc., you ALWAYS throw something new in. In this episode I learned about about a jelly blob and sea potatoes. I either missed them in previous viedos but this was the first time I saw them. I'll NEVER tire of seeing these viedos. As well, I'll never tire of see your lovely Hannah and sweet James. I just wish I had had a childhood that James is experiencing. Your patience with him is amazing and he's learning in such a wonderful environment, who wouldn't love his playground!
So happy you had a wonderful day foraging and a great meal ( jealousy speaking here) to boot! Speaking of the food, which brand of hot sauce are you eating? I love hot sauces and sometimes I'm disappointed in what I buy. Thought I might try and get your favorite (I'm in the states) and see if it's any good.
Again, thanks for allowing me to share your family time and GREAT job Hannah in finding that one scallop! My best to your family John as these last 2 months of 2021 slip away.
Thank you very much Nancy. I am so very glad to hear that you are not only enjoying joining us on our adventures but also that you find the videos so informative. Best wishes to you and your family and have a wondeful week. 😊💙
@@jemimabowden4172 I looked back at the video the one next to Hannah says "Mahi Piri Piri hot sauce" 26:38
It looks like MAHI Carolina Reaper & Pineapple Hot Sauce. I love hot sauce and get international assortments every month. It is a British product and it’s delicious.
Another brilliant informative vid, unsurprisingly I'm now very hungry 😂
@@TheFishLocker
Love your vids mate. I’ve been watching your vids for a few years now, when I was a kid I didn’t like scallops but when I came across your forage and cook vids a few years ago I decided to give them a go again and it turns out I LOVE them. Sadly where I live in Australia it’s land locked and the best I have is a river an hour and a half drive away full of invasive european carp that have destroyed the local river life so it’s hard to catch anything but the carp which we don’t eat so I can’t really forage like you do 😢. At least the carp are a reliable catch and provide some fun.
Love watching you and you and your family, looking forward to more vids.
What's not to love about this video ... beautiful family, nature, fun learning, awesome parenting, cool dad and love the accent too 😍
Your knowledge of different species of clams, oysters, mussels and others is outstanding!
I don’t know how or why this ended up on my recommended but I’m happy it did. It was interesting and informative and flat out educational for me! I didn’t even know some of these things existed. Thanks for the great video
Well thank you and welcome to our channel. I don’t mind how people find us simply that they enjoy their time with us. Have a lovely day. 😊👍🏻
It's awesome to see James grow in confidence and curiosity with each new video. What an AMAZING childhood to have, going tidepooling so much! You and your family always seem to have a good time and find so many neat critters. I always love watching these videos, I am from CA in the USA and I go tidepioking often too! Hope you are well
You know after rewatching this video I gotta say. Education is so important, conserving and returning stuff to the environment, involving family, and so much more . This channel should be given an award. Oh and not to mention sharing cooking ideas!
We are simply sharing what we know and love doing Sean, at the same time teaching our kids the importance of sustainable foraging. Take only what you need and treating the natural world with respect and appreciation 😊
@@TheFishLocker I seriously think that’s parents of the year right there!
I love how you involve your family in your foraging excursions and the cookouts.
Little James always makes me smile! Just doing what little men do!!Hope all is well with you and your family John
i love how this is about family spending time and working together and i like how informational your videos are
We are simply sharing what we know and love doing. Have a wonderful day and take care. 😊💙
As per usual a joy to watch.. What really was a classic line from yourself, “ we learn from our mistakes,” having burnt your tongue not once but twice… Like father like son , John. Poor James..😉🤭😇
My son has a saltwater tank. He called me saying he had some new type of snail in the tank. I saw it and was able to tell him it was a slipper limpet! It was fun to impress him with what I learned watching your foraging videos!!
Haha. Wonderful. He should try and get a queen scallop and a snakelocks anemone.
Time slip, takes me right back to when my family would picnic, fish & forage by the sea. Cherished memories...back in the 60's and you are carrying on the family traditions. My father taught us respect for the environment and enjoyable times. You are the type of Science teacher we all enjoyed having in school. Best always John!
I have been waiting since before our son was born to be able to teach him these things. I hope this type of life brings him as much joy as it has me. 😊💙
James is so tough and braveAND SMART! No worries little man, we all get nipped sooner or later! Keep up your great work.
That’s it. We all get nipped or burned a little in life. It’s all a lesson. 😊👍🏻
This makes me wish I had a family to do such cool stuff with!!
I especially love how you put the small clams back, treat nature well. Good to see. Respect and conservation.
Thank you, I am glad that it transfers across in the videos. It is something we are also teaching our children - take only what you need and treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. Best wishes and have a wonderful day. 😊
Learned so much so fast. You're an awesome dad; super patient with your son by giving him small tasks so he can contribute
I have honestly been waiting since before our son was born to teach him about our world. 😊💙
Ihr seid eine ganz tolle Familie. Draußen in der Natur und dein kleiner Junge lernt so viel über das Meer und seine Bewohner. So soll es sein. Gruß aus Deutschland
It's so relaxing watching your videos, keep em coming 👍
I think James's pride was hurt more than his finger 😁, bless him , he's the Hula hoop king of Cornwall 👍
Haha. You hit it on the head there mate. It was a learning experience for him. 😉🦀
Your entire family are getting so good and finding those. Good family fun.
Nice to see you and your family out foraging and cooking out together. I think James got the best hall. 🙂
This was such a sweet thing to witness. Living off the land with your family and sharing sentimental moments. Couldn't be better. Your little guy is going to learn so much from you and your wife!
I have honestly been waiting since before our son was born to be able to teach him these things. 😊💙
@@TheFishLocker that's good! You'll give him so much for his own special life. I can't wait to teach my kids (hard) work and playing and cultivating in nature.
Ah man, thanks to all of you at Foraging Locker for taking us along. Lobster always looks fab, but I think your beach-cooked scallops are the thing I am most envious of.
That looks like a fine, practical filleting/shelling knife.
Thank you. I have a few knives I use for different things. My leatherman gets used most often.
After many months of videos I still think that the salting for razor clams is the most satisfying, it's just so magical that it comes out because of it and not just spitting it back out and then staying buried.
OMG,I'm so envious of the selection of shellfish you've got round your way. I'm sure I could smell them cooking.
I hope you and James have recovered from your wounds 🤦♂️🦀
Golden years....golden years!! So many good memories for myself, guess I've been busy for fifty years
Great video John, thank you 😊 👍 Always nice to see Hannah and James with you, out on the shore 😉
This was such a relaxing and healing video to watch, I didn't expect a vid looking for clams to be this wholesome and entertaining!
I am so pleased that you feel that way. We love being out on the shore together and find it really calming and cathartic. Welcome to our channel and I hope you enjoy the rest of our content. 😊
For a New Mexico desert dweller, this looks So Much Fun. I can even taste the Scallops. Great Episode
James is adorable! I love all the info about sea life. Thank you my friend!
first time watching your show it was great watching you forage with your family and teaching your son about the sea i swordfished the grand banks back in 1985 and sone inshore lobstering a few years love the ocean and all seafood i will be checking out some of your shows when im done here
Thank you and welcome. Fishing the Grand Banks is a special thing that many deep sea fishermen dream of. You are a lucky man. 👍🏻🎣
it never ceased to amaze me the shear diversity of life in your local shores! im from the southeastern US and while it's absolutely gorgeous on our coasts it's much more of a sandy experience with less of the rocks and tidepools and such. I live vicariously through your videos!
We have some areas like that here also. Rocks and vegetation provide shelter. Shelter encourages species. That’s all it is. 👍🏻😊
The Pacific Rock Oyster are sensational eating, they're a delicasy here in Oz
A real pleasure to join the fishlocker family on the shore again , cracking cook up , they are my favourites on the beach. I appreciate the amount of effort it takes to show us this. And I think everyone of us watching wanted to put an arm around nipper at the end. take care and thank you John 👍🏼👍🏼
💙 He is such a little cutie isn’t he. Don’t worry, it was more of a pride injury than a finger one. 🤣🦀
@@TheFishLocker he is mate, a real superstar. And I’m hoping the massive marshmallows came out again to help mend the pride 🤣👍🏼👍🏼
Lovely to see a family down by the beach scoffing MY scollops and razor clams. LOLOL :)))) Hello James; I have a grandson named James who looks very much like you.
@@TheFishLocker It certainly is great name. My wife and I saw our little James today. He is must be about the same age as your James. Loved the way he was "supervising" your retrieval of the Lobster Pots. I am going to give him a nickname, and call him 'THE CHAIRMAN" lol. We have 17 grand children and our James is one of six children of my daughter and her husband. Being a keen angler, I really enjoy your videos which I find relaxing and pleasurable. Wish I were landing those Lobsters. Cheers my friend. All the very best to you and yours.
James was The Man on this forage. Excellent job , James. Brilliant beach cookout , John. Big hello to Mrs. FL.
👍🍺
Once again a great vid .Nice to see James growing up and learning about the nature of our coastline .
I could eat scallops, crab, and lobster 7 days a week, So much fun eating out like that.
John,
I love your channel. You're a wealth of knowledge and keep every video very entertaining and informative, great production quality to boot! The pinnacle of my praise for the work you do comes in the wholesome nature of your channel. It's very kind of you to give us a glimpse of the joys of your family life and the adventures you all go on. Thanks very much for doing what you're doing, please don't ever stop!
Todd Stevens
Thank you very much for the kind words Todd. We are simply sharing a little bit of what we know and love doing in the hope that on some way it helps folks out. Wether it is through the educational value or simply through providing a positive distraction for people. Take care and stay safe. 😊
It's brilliant to see you guys out there with mother nature. Here in the States, at least where I've been, requires paper work(permits), traveling, gear to be used and of course, most of our waters here are man-made and restocked. Also, finding a spot to put up a quick fire to cook is usually a ticket from the patrolling officer.
It's just a nice fresh breath of air to watch you and your family enjoying something so peaceful and stress free. At least on camera!
😉😅😅
That sounds like a really frustrating situation, though I imagine that has come about because of people not behaving in a sustainable way. 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker I understand why they do it in my state, our coast is only a couple of miles!
Awww! The nipper got nipped! They're painful though, crab nips. Did he enjoy his marshmallows afterwards? Looks like a great cook-up that one.
The amazing part is if you need to survive on Shellfish, you could...Good video from the Fish Locker and James......
I'm very very impressed u know ur stuff and ur son will soon know ur stuff too. Cheers ! Well done
Wonderful video John. Something else I've learned, Sea potatoes!
Thanks for sharing some of your family time. Have a great week.
I have learned so much about our British sea life from you! I am often in Whitby with our family and can now explore using what I’ve learned.
So much content on UA-cam is American, which is fun but not useful. So refreshing and I’m craving fish after every foraging video!
Love coastal foraging and I get to learn all their name as well...thank you.
I’m so happy that this video came up in my “for you page” tonight. Such a nice and calming video. I learned a lot to
I don’t mind how people find us, only that they enjoy their time with us. Welcome to our channel and have a wonderful day. 😊
awesome video as always john. love how James is getting more involved with the catching of different creatures. He caught that razor clam like a pro.
He is turning into a proper little lad isn’t he. He makes us so proud. 😊💙
Scallops and razor clams. Two of my favourites. I first learned how to catch razor clams watching Hugh Fearnley W.
Hey bud, I take my 3 year old son every month to see his grand parents in Bournemouth. He loves going to the beach and collecting sea shells. It led us to your channel, he loves it as much I do, keep up the great work.
I am glad that you are all enjoying the content. Best wishes to the family and take care. 😊
I enjoy all of your videos but my favorites by far are these foraging videos that have the whole family and end with a cook up. Fantastic family!
Had no idea you could find scallops like that....where I grew up they're out in the ocean floor. Great education learning how to find them and different clams you can find. The cooking part looks delicious!
Thanks for another great video John! Is so nice to follow you when you are on the beaches and find all the exciting of life forms! Wishing you and your family a glorious week to come! Stay Safe!
Thank you very much mate, sorry for the late reply. This one slipped past me. 👍🏻
just sat down and i am ready to have half an hour of pure enjoyment love the videos im addicted!
I am glad that you enjoyed the video Jolene, I'm sorry I missed this comment it somehow slipped through the net. I hope everything is well with you and have a lovely day. 😊💙
Thanks for sharing and glad to see you out with the family and in preparing the food.
James is so lucky to have a mom n dad that takes such an interest in him. I did the same thing with my kids. Not only are you foraging but explaining every sea creature and shell fish you find. Its a great education as well as a survival skill. Great job Fish Locker Dad. I see your attractive wife is also with you on the hunt. Great combo. There is no Success that will compensate for Failure in the Home. Southern Calif does not have quite the variety of sea shore foraging as does central and northern Calif, but a good Grunion run , with a midnight bonfire, is almost a religious experience.
Thank you for the comment Chuck, we love spending time together outdoors like this and we simply do as we feel is right. We might not get it right all of the time, but parenting is never black or white is it. We are simply doing out best. Take care and have a great day sir. 😊
My Ms. Hannah said to say to tell Mrs. Hannah "Hi" from her. 😂
I also have been informed by my 10 yr old Hannah that she wants to go fishing with her some day. She thinks they could beat us fishing. 🤔 I need to win the lottery to be able to fly the 4 of us to England. 😂 We absolutely enjoyed the video (painful lessons and all). Give Mr James a hug from us.
Take care guys, we enjoyed the family cooking and eating time (including the burn mouths ). 😜 Maybe with Mr. James getting older and more adventurous you guys can do it that more often.
Hannah and Monus
Super crazy guys, btw u guys bring down a crazy soul, hard to match… God bless u’ll.
As someone who goes to college along the cold Northern California coast I’m so happy to have found this video, as now I can give a shot at foraging for these as well!
Absolutely love your videos mate. Those scallops looked AMAZING. I would love some day to fish along side you 🤝
You never know mate, one day if you're down my way give me a message. 😉👍🏻
These foraging videos are always great and this one was no exception, you always learn something, eg. sea potatoes. I love seeing James looking so well and growing up fast, he certainly has changed since we first saw him. I still can't understand why all the scallop isn't eaten like all other shellfish are, there must be a reason but nobody seems to have an answer, you only ever see prepared ones at the fishmongers. Looking forward to the next episode.
As with any filter feeders and shellfish. Any harmful chemical or bacteria they may have ingested in their lives is concentrated in their internal organs. Also, their stomaches are full of grit and sand.
@@TheFishLocker Quite true that still doesn't explain why we only "clean" up scallops. That's for replying.
@@tonycamplin8607 we do the same with large clams. Just consider how fussy and painstaking it would be to do it with every tiny cockle or mussel.
I wish you could come to Florida and do some fishing and do some foraging on the beaches here.
I just loved this episode. I could only imagine how delicious those scallops were. I was salivating. Well done. Just loved it.
I enjoy all your videos, but these foraging vids, especially when James makes an appearance brighten my day no end! His adorable lil face 🤗🤗 although he's at the age now where he'd hate me saying that about him lol he's certainly growing up fast 😊😊
Your videos are so relaxing and educational! I wish I lived in a place where I could forage for scallops and cook them up myself. It always looks so good! Your family is beautiful as well ❤️
Who knows, one day you may find yourself by the shore and now you know what to look for. 😊
The simple things in life are best... Brought all my kids up near the sea, such an adventure forraging through the shore.
Your son will give such beautiful memories doing this with you guys. I have great memories on the beach with my Nan too. I’m 30 now and my Nan is moving close to me in a few months I can’t wait!
Thank you for another wonderful foraging/beach cook-up video. Don't leave near an ocean coast so living vicariously through you, Hannah and James.
So, are winkles and limpets edible?
A nice day to forage the tide waters with a lovely family and cook-out. What more could a man ask for? Love your conservation of nature.
Thank you Rod. I am glad that transfers accords in the videos. Take care sir 😊👍🏻
Another wonderful low water forage and free food for you, James will become the next Ray Mears or Bear Grylls.
I love this channel. you always make these videos sound so interesting but also chill. I love these videos I always learn new stuff from you guys. keep on the amazing work!
Another amazing video John & Hannah and James , scallops were massive 👌Just as a thought , have you thought of going into schools and teaching children what’s on our shores ? 👍🤟👌
There is a lot of red tape unfortunately, but I have been into James school and done some lessons about it. 😊
IN Australia we eat the roe and the muscle of the scallop in batter, yummy.
Its such a nice area there, I'm surprised you didn't find some of my lost fishing tackle 😅🤦♂️
Brilliant video mate 👍
"No, I don't want it!!" You're son is a real character, that was hilarious.
The little seagull moment was so adorable! Thank you for a wonderful video
Nice one good Educational Visio and having a nice day out in the fresh air 👍
Another great half hour of education and entertainment, thanks JL and co. PS Countryfile is worth a watch tonight.....rebranding less popular fish to eat in Cornwall.
Love these videos! Keep it up and I can’t wait to cross over the pond to get my own seafood to try! Can’t wait to do that and do you have any ideas of where I should try to get my own seafood while over there? Beaches, waterways, or whatever you think is best?
I am unsure where you are staying or wether the time of year you are here will be safe. It is best to speak to some local merchants when you arrive, as they will know what is safe in your area. 😊👍🏻
Lush. Hula hoops are a favourite of mine. The scallops looked alright as well 😂👍🏻
Very interesting to see what people are foraging on shores across the world. Thanks for the shared knowledge!

That was fantastic John and thank you for solving a mystery for me! I've been finding sea-potatoes on Formby Beach for years and never knew what they were until I watched this. Brilliant stuff mate and those scallops looked fantastic! 👍🏼
If your fast enough you can dig after the razor clams, that's what we do in the USA.
I've already watched them all at least 3 times over 🤣🤣 I even keep The Fish Locker playing quietly on repeat as I sleep to help boost the algorithm 😁
I love your comment
