exactly, and TBH this isn't even a sad ending, just an ending the way it should, many will not like it and prefer (plot twist) them to escape to a deserted island and have children there, and then what after that? no more? sooo typical and predictable I don't even consider it a twist anymore LoL
100% agree. Couldnt have said it better myself. This the kind of ending that hits you in the feels harder than a cliche fairy tale happily ever after.

There is a sort-of sequel anime called The Pilot's Live Song which hints that they at least get to see each other again. Granted, it's not the best anime ever, but there is that.

I wanted them to be together at the end like Fana jumping out of the ship and escape together that would be so great. On the other side though they would probably hunt them forever so i kinda understand why Charle’s rejected taking her with him even if wanted it so badly. Great movie overall!

Oh, trust me. I only saw the last half of the movie and I was the exact same way (it was streaming on RetroCrush a while back).
But I get the feeling that if Fana did decide to go with Charles, then she'd be putting her homeland in jeopardy... So she had to leave him in the end.
It was clear that they cared for each other a great deal, but they had to put their feelings aside for the sake of their respective duties.
I bet Charles find it harder to return to his country than escort the princess. He would be reminiscing their memories while going back.

I dont really get how people saw this movie's ending as sad
it was obvious that because he was discriminated against that it would've never been possible for them to have a relationship or for him to go on the ship. they parted ways on a good note and she got to end the war by building relations with the opposing country, and charles got to live out his life (i assume) on an island free from society.
But his name was completely removen from history and atleast he can be her pilot again ( this much can be atleast possible) and he also wasted more than half amount of gold dust ,well it didn't shown more that he used all or keep half for itself. Well it really sucks for either being from Nobel family or from very bottom family ,like society really treat them badly and against the will.
@@pratikgaurav9943 IIRC He wouldn't have minded in the long run of being removed from history. It would have no affect on him since he lives secluded from society. He got treated like shit throughout the movie but how does that matter in the long run when again, he is no longer attached to society. Also I think it was implied that they never met again after that.

I thought this was a anime where a ww2 pilot gets sent back in time and crashes in a forest and a princess finds him and he has a escort plane wit him he also crashes to but dies the bad guys find the plane investigate it get advanced techno and he fights off hoards and hoards of enemy planes and shit XD

Forget the girl I just wanted my guy to get a single ounce of respect. he already got shafted hard for the visual ending, and the text pushed it even further. excluding Fana, all the nice or barely decent behavior we saw was his buddy, the guy that left the alcohol on the plane, and the captain at the end not stopping Fana. Not including the guys cheering at the end cause that was very likely just for the gold.
My dude was mugged as a child, by other children, beat by adults, continuously mistreated and depressingly ‘knew his place’ very well, got beat with a gun when completing his mission, had a portion of his reward stolen, then gave up a lot of it (not sure if it was all) to prove a point, and his existence isn’t in history at all.
Just... the last bit of text. Coulda just left everything else as is and Fana went on to become queen and tried to basically fight racism for the rest of her life; the end.

I'd prefer this over weathering with you. It was frustrating how the movie ended, but, I take it as it is. As some people would've wished for a different ending, my younger self would prefer that too (If I watched as a teen) but that's just it.

I'm from sri lanka . i realy like very much reading manga and watching anime's so i watched this movie. but this anime movie was awsome and there is a one quection. i can't be satisfied with this ending of this movie giveing a sad endings leaves a more lasting impression !! i hope for Charles and Fana to good life or living together but in the end it's give me some lonliness impression on this movie... so anyone reed this or see this tell me if you know something about this movie's ending or something after hapening..!! 2023/12

this anime i quite lame
the main charachter sure is a skilled pilot,however he basically have no dignity when confronting people,the princess is humble,but,despite her authority,she's not strong enough to make use of it,all secondary characters are meant to make their mission a failure,the princess's maides fill their plane with as much luggage as possible .slowing them down,the commanding officer first declare a top secret mission,then they show everybody,the enemy has their classic "stormtrooper" aim

did you know that Pilot Love Song anime is the spin off of this anime(Princess and the Pilot)? they both exist in the same world(almost water covers the whole planet/continent). it was rumor that the pilot of seagull airplane that save the blonde main character(of Pilot Love Song anime) is the main character(the male) in this movie since no one knows what happen to him but only few of them don't believe since the airplane used(seagull) is not same as the seagull plane in movie :( but yeah they exist in same world.

I really liked the movie, but the ending was terrible in my opinion.
I just finished watching this show. Pro: The airplanes were very inventive and you could tell that the animators have a true love for WW2 era planes and put a lot of detail into them. The air ships with different small destroyer, cruiser, and even a air carrier classes were also a very inventive and fun to consider aspect. A nice addition to the Japanese cultural vaults of such similar ideas such as space battleships in the Gundam series or Space battleship Yamato.
Con: The main character arcs are supposed to be from Romeo and Juliet tradition of star crossed lovers. But this does not work for me since it is shown that the Princess has had an active long distance relationship with for over a year. And most of the development of the Pilot and her relationship was from working together to repair the plane over a very short montage that in the story lasted less than a day or so. Of which time most of which probably consisted of hiking in mountainous terrain and with the pilot in very cramped and uncomfortable positions making repairs.
And the Pilot made it clear that he was a professional and at no time gave in to the Princesses foolish and frankly dangerous advances. This makes it very strange when the pilot dumps some or all of his very hard earned reward gold (earned with his own blood mind you) out of his plane in the last few moments of the film when he does a farewell display with his plane. Which for someone who grew up poor and starving, is utterly unthinkable as it is throwing away your dreams and future of retirement to a peaceful life and going back to more discrimination, blood, and death as a mercenary. And the Princess would have no true appreciation for such an act.
If anything, half the crew of the air ship probably were dashing to pick up the gold off the deck within seconds as they all have families to feed back home.
Seriously? Yet another bad ending? I'm starting to hate these writers man. Kuzu no Honkai, I wanna eat your pancreas and now this shit... there arent' many romance shows out there, let alone good ones. And from the good ones only 20% gets an ending which more often seems to turn out worse than not. Goddamit

DJ Melody They just never get together due to the massive social class difference between them. One is a pilot who's parents come from both his country and the one their at war with, making him the lowest of the low on the social scale, while the other one is a princess.
