I watched this anime a while back and still can’t believe how underrated and perfect this anime is, yes it left me wondering,curious, sad,hurt etc. but I really loved it

I like how this is the only anime ive seen where the girls dont have an exaggerated tone on their voices, this sounds more normal and more realistic. Its a breath of fresh air imo.

Same here. I felt the ending was cut very short, it really built these two up to a point that made it seem like they were gonna fight to stay with each other.

There is a sequel, but it isn't based on those two but they two had appearances/refrences in the movie, the movie is called The Pilot's Love Song
This deserves to be a full length animated movie or perhaps even a series either way it's good.

It’s one of those endings where it’s up to the viewer on what happened.
He stays as a fighter pilot actually. Although his name was never stated, an ace pilot in a spin off series is widely believed to be him. I believe it was also confirmed in the light novel of the spin off series, where he meets with the protagonist of the spin off series.
I forgot to add this, but the name of the spin off series is 'The Pilot's Love Song'. It, along with this movie is part of the Hikuushi or pilot series

Ending sequel that I want to happen in this movie is ;
Princess Fana later married with the prince and succesfully bring peace to the both country. After a few years of her achievement, she got divorce as the prince felt like Fana want to take over his throne. Broke and dissapointed, Fana later move out from Levamme empire and live at Cyon Island. Unexpectedly she met with Charles who had been live at the island since he retire after finish his mission.That why Charles name never existed in Levamme history after he done his mission . Finally, they get married and live happily ever after.
The end.

In the end, both suppress their feelings for the completion of the mission which is for the greater good(?). The guy takes her to the mainland for her to marry the prince guy. As his successful delivery, Charles is given gold dust which he throws in the air when turning back to the islands with his plane which gets cheers from the soldiers at the mainland. Princess marries the crown prince and becomes the queen and brings peace. Charles's duty records, which changed the course of history, destroyed after the mission. There is no info about him after he set to return to the islands. Years after the name of the mission found with its details but his name was never mentioned in these records. For me it is a disappointing ending, to be honest...
