Cool thanks for the video. I just bought a 1050 online (Walmart) a few days ago. Gets delivered next week!

Awesome video. How has it held up? I'm worried about the firebox where the charcoal burns

Honestly, pretty well. I've got some of the paint peeling inside the box that others have and a bit of rust in lower part of box, which I really think is condensation that gets trapped in there. I have not used the stainless mods that are out there but might consider putting in one this year. It's stayed in that spot all summer and winter and feels as solid as ever.

I agree. Nice video. I get my 1050 Monday and you just walked me through how this is going to work. I am a fan of yours for sure. Maybe if I post a 1050 video I'll send you a link. ;)

I'm going to call you out.....Great review. :) I'm still considering this grill, but you are helping me make up my mind. It will be great if you show how you clean it out....

Best review on this model. Thank you for your time and effort. A question- how do you believe this smoker would do in colder weather. Say- 40 degrees?

So, it's funny you ask. I live in ND and I decided to smoke some jerky just last week and it was in the 20s. I was wondering how it would hold up. 3 hours at around 200 degrees and it did a fantastic job. I had jerky on all 3 levels and all cooked up well. I'll say that the bottom did go slightly hotter and I did expect that as it does that during the summer as well. To be honest, I was pretty impressed because I thought running at a lower temp like that would allow air to come in that top back slit and not allow the top rack to cook as well. I didn't have that problem at all.

Question: Where do you put your smoke chunks/chips to get the best smoke? Ash tray, stacked between the coal, or both?

I've tried it both ways because you can layer them into the box. I'm honestly not sure I can tell you which way gives me more smoke but layering them is probably going to be more consistent because you don't have to check as often to see if you need to toss in another chunk, etc. I will say that if you have problems with not getting enough smoke layering them in, you can always toss some chunks in the ash and get some extra that way so it leaves the options open. If you start with them just in the ash, you're kind of stuck. I haven't done it with both at this point yet.
