** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:

** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

I love Richard Paterson too. Another cool fact about him is that he helped design the Glencairn glass. It's hard to believe you via doesn't mention all the dark fruit notes in Dalmore tho. I get a lot of plum, grapes, red apples and raspberry. Love that stuff!
Oh Dalmore.. literally say this everytime!!! Its soooooo good
The Dalmore 12 Year is hands down my favorite Scotch... Followed by Highland Park 18 Year.
How's the HP 18? Can I bother you for some tasting notes for that?
I watch everyday or at least catch up on the weekend. I just got my first bottle of Dalmore 12 and I have had a couple glasses. I figured i would watch the video you guys made. Its nice to look back and see how far you have come. I remember the first video i watched and it was just Daniel sitting in a huge chair for what felt like an hour. Thank you guys for showing me the world of whiskey !!!!
I tried this Whisky on their recommendation and it was amazing, my favorite Whisky so far. Wonderful stuff. (and I'm not really a whisky drinker) Thanks guys!
I blame you guys (in a good way) for my new obsession with whiskey. I had been given a bottle of Crown Royale Reserve some years ago and had never opened it till just a few weeks ago. Then I tried a MacAllan 12, followed shortly by purchasing a bottle of Dalmore 15. Thank you for opening my mind and tastebuds to the world of whiskey, and damn you at the same time!! Keep the awesome videos coming!
Both praise and damnation are equally accepted.
Woohoo got mentioned in a video!!! Dalmore 12 has become one of my favorites I also enjoy the Glenfarclas 12. But I'm still waiting to see your take on the King Alexander. Keep the videos coming.
Another great humour filled episode - laughs galore.
To follow up on the Clearance Discounted Compass Box from the Pennsylvania State Stores:
I am way into the Oak Cross, and went back and bought two more bottles. The Orangerie and Peat Monster I can see the appeal of, but I'm mostly treating them like an occasional novelty for now.
Thanks again for the recommendation, and as I slowly learn more about Scotch, I discover there's so much more than just the overwhelming burnt bandage punch to the face that I got with my first Scotch ever (Talisker... I told my friend to "surprise me", and she sure as hell did)
I decided this weekend to expand my collection by another two bottles and picked up a bottle of Monkey Shoulder and Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Heavily Peated. I tried the PC last night and the Monkey Shoulder today and have to say, in my limited whisky knowledge, that both of these are damn fine. I don't have much to compare either to, only having one other whisky of the two regions, Speyburn 10 for the Speyside and Laphroaig 10 for Islay. The Port Charlotte is definitely less aggressive than the Laphroaig and will probably be what I use to introduce my friend into smoky whisky when they're ready, but I going to have to do a side by side of the Speyburn and Monkey Shoulder tomorrow to see which one I prefer.
Hey guys, I've been watching for a while now since I stumbled onto your Modern Rogue videos. In a few months I went from knowing nothing about whisk(e)y to fantasizing about scotch at work. My first 3 bottles were Laphroaig 10, Dalmore 12, and Classic Laddie, and I couldn't be happier with your recommendations. My thanks to you and a few other great youtube channels (Shout out to Ralfy) for showing the wonderful and non-pretentious side of whisky!
Grateful that you're here!
@@WhiskeyVault I asked Santa Klaus to make you guys my brothers...
I got a bottle of Ardbeg 10 instead. Damn Santa. Can't hate the dude.
I really like the 15. That is brown sugar in a bottle. Reminds me of southern baking. Heavy butters and that brown sugar flavor mmmmmmm
I’m new to drinking whiskey and have bought a bottle of the cardhu gold reserve which is pretty smooth and nice will a single rock of ice - But your videos make the whiskey even more enjoyable 😂
Daniel,
Totally worth it dude! . . . .as long as we are paying in your whisky!
I’ve never come across a channel with so many views and so few dislikes. You guys rock and not even the haters hate on you. Keep it up.
They're basically legends of whiskey.
I just tried this for the first time because it was on sale for $10 of in Canada it is $100 for 750ml it is really very very good... I enjoy it a lot more than the Johnny walker gold select that has always been my go to.
I just got a bottle of this today and it's very VERY nice dram.
I started following the channel heavily after the first Dalmore 12 review Daniel did by himself over a year ago, absolutly love everything about it and take pride in being an MB. If you guys could choose one dinner that you have to cook for yourself on a night alone, what would it be and what whiskey would you have with it? You guys are great and thanks for creating a great whiskey community!
for me, it would be a New York Strip, a baked potato, and Bowmore 15
You guys are hammered in this one...I love it.
Love your channel and thanks for getting me into some great whiskeys from your reviews, I know you love Dalmore 12y and Glenfarclas 15y but no mention of Dalmore Portwood 46.5% or Glenfarclas 105 60% vol ,these 2 put me in Whiskey heaven also your great reviews do 2.
My wife just got me a bottle for Valentine's and I am loving it!!!!
It’s strange, I had the Dalmore 12 straight and it tasted like fig newtons! Then I added some ice and it immediately turned to Black licorice! A few sips later and it turned back to fig newtons. I was also smoking a cigar, so that might of changed things. Either way I loved it. I’ve never experienced that flavor profile in any other whiskey before.
I tried Dalmore 12 for the first time tonight. Nice baking spice and butterscotch, with some plum. It was quite tasty and I don't usually use smooth, but dammit it went down easy. Definitely a fine whisky.
As soon as you started down the Richard Paterson path I started "no, no, nooo, nooooooo, NOOOOOOOOO!!"
Do you also find him... a bit annoying? He's probably a great blender, and he's a great personality, but there are like 40 videos of him doing the exact same whisky tasting routine, and he never explains any of it.
In some videos he explains why he does this thing with glass, smelling few times and so on. Also, he not always throws away whisky - he omitted this step with Dalmore 50 :)
Peter Schumacher I low key don't like him at all. I think some of the stuff he does is bizarre and is counterproductive for creating whisky drinkers.
It bothers me that he has 50 videos of him greeting his whisky three times, but I haven't seen anything where he explains why. If you look at Highland Park's channel, they have a video about whisky-tasting, and he explains it right off the bat. It was so refreshing to lose all the bombast for unpretentious information.
I for one, can't stand Mr. Paterson's persona. Love Dalmore though.
Dalmore 12 My favorite!!!!
Daniel and Rex, Dalmore 12 is the first scotch I ever tried and enjoyed. My Dad is a Speyside lover. My brother loves the Islay whiskies. The peatiest whisky I can do is Highland Park. I love Dalmore 12. It is probably my favorite scotch of them all. I do like Macallan, Glenlivet and Glenfiddich
You have good taste.
Daniel, just watched bunch of Richard Paterson videos. If he is as good a blender as he is a showman, those must be some amazing blends! Would love to see the two of you do some videos together. Although I do cringe everytime he just throws out the initial fill of a glass "just to make sure it's clean"
Man my first dalmore 12 is in my cabinet and i`m going to try it on christmas. Can`t wait :)
Great review guys great fun 🙂 thanks 😊
You have to try it because it’s amazink
The writers tears!!! please for the love of God put it where it goes. Also i just tried my first high proof bourbon neat in the henry mckenna 10 and the old granddad 114 and I loved it. Keep doing what you guys do
Just wait.. this week, you'll see a handwritten note on it.
I love Dalmore 12! And y'alls videos! Can you do a review on water?
That is some great whisky right there! Too bad my bottle of Dalmore is empty. Have to go buy a new one.
$68.00 where i’m from. Bought me some today 👌🏼 Monkey shoulder is actually more expensive here too (69.00 before tax.)
im not sure what i stumbled on here because it was an actual whiskey review and those don't happen on this channel
Safety first. Back slowly out... go back in time. Watch a mooch necklace video. take deep breaths.
instructions unclear computer now on fire all whiskey poured down sink
i just imagined myself showing up at your front door, wearing a plumbers outfit, wrench in hand. you open the door and i say, "where's that damn sink"
@@FightStealDrink lol i could totally see that
I didn't know Richard Paterson set up a whisky benevolent fund, good on him; he gets a lot of stick, some justified imo; but that's a great thing to do. I raise my glass of Kilkerran 12 to him.
And you can never go wrong with a Port Charlotte, I try to keep it as a mainstay on my shelf, though currently missing a bottle - need to rectify that soon! ;)
Great vid.
Octomore 06.1 if still available is $160 in Taylor, MI
Dalmore 12 is so gd smooth and easy. Great dram.
I always get so sad that I can't afford any of these whiskeys. But at least I get to live vicariously through you guys.
we'll do a good budget whiskey list in the not-too-distant future.
Rex Thanks, Mr. Mooch. Maybe I could try to learn the art of mooching so that I can try the good stuff.
i hear the shire is well stocked and full of unsuspecting whiskey lovers.
Shane Ferrell the dalmore 12 is like 40 bucks. Relax
ImNotJoshPotter It's not sold where I am, and that's like the top of my budget. And I'm actually pretty relaxed already, but thanks for your concern.
Hey I just got a bottle of great kings street Glasgow blend (my first compass box whisky). I hope it's on the list soon!
It's tasty!
One more thing guys just hear me out try taking a sip of cold to cool water right be bore a sip of Whiskey I find that it opens up the flavors a bit. Maybe Daniel can explain it better but I think it's amazing.
Yes. It absolutely makes a difference.
As a born and raised Texan, I'm slightly disappointed that y'all haven't done a 'Best Texas whiskeys' list. You can start with 1835 😎
Nice
Trying the Dalmore 12 for the first time I’m amazed by how long the taste lasts. It’s like the Willy Wonka scene when Violet takes the dinner gum and describes all the different flavors. It’s just soooo complex.
Ear wax...
I love the videos and watch every night. Question: any suggestions for cigar videos, someone like you guys... not boring.
I haven't actually watched any, but If I stumble onto one, I'll mention it!
How creepy is it that I just got back from my local shop, came back with Monkey Shoulder and Dalmore 12 and this video is on my re recommended video list? And I didn’t search or anything about them recently. Both are very damn good. New favs
5 yrs later I still watch these videos lol
King Alexander III... 200$.... And here in Denmark, just a short distance across the ocean from Scotland... have to pay 250$... DAMN YOU DANISH TAXES!!!
Hi guys I've been watching your videos for little while I i learned so much i like scotch whiskey tomatin a lot can you do some reviewing on it i like you see what you guys thinking about it
Dalmore is my favorite line of scotch!!
The prices has went up over the years though
So glad i found you guys, im New to whiskey like a good year in and im totaly loving it. Realy love how you guys go about the video's and would totaly be kickass the share a night drinking whiskey with both of you! After those dalmore vids and the Patterson vids i watched i realy want some dalmore to try but cant dicide between the 12 and the 15 Since they are not just the same wiskey but older. Any straight difrences between the two that can help make a desicion?
Start with 12. It's a classic.
quik please Im trying to decide between dalmore 12 and green label, I love green label, is it worth to buy a dalmore 12 instead???
You guys should do the aberlour 12 double cask soon
Man Dalmore 12 is way too good to hate... My favorite whiskey
Please do dalmore vintage 10
Great video!!!!!!
thanks, William Wall
May I suggest a video on Compass Box Great King Street Glasgow Blend. I find it to be an amazing blended scotch and a fantastic value.
It's awesome! The artist blend is good too, but the glasgow blend is better
Review more SCOTCH plz!!!!
A thing that tickles me in all the videos, how @Daniel uses that 'thumb to finger rub' gesture in support of any description ranging from history, price, color, nose, taste, etc of a whisky 😂
Dalmore 12 makes me think of Christmas.
Who would have known that watching Machete Kills with a Glencairn of Dalmore 12 would be sooo enjoyable.
What's your take on coloring and chill filtering? Is it important?
That Port Charlotte is quickly becoming one of my favorite whiskys.
yah, i was surprised how much i enjoyed it. thought, "what didn't i try this sooner?!"
Indeed, there is so much more to it than peat.
Richard Patterson will be here in Houston doing Dalmore tasting on Friday. Y'all should come out. Ill buy both of you a drink!
Oh man, I wish I could
that would be awesome! wish i didn't have a line of people expecting me to be here on friday. i'll be mooching free food and whiskey, but no patterson. =/
Thanks for doing the heavy peated! Its my favorite islay by wide margin! Idk if i can agree that the 12 is better than KA3 further testing required...be back shortly with results!
if you need 3rd party confirmation of the results, i volunteer.
Ok so i have spent the last 45 minutes going back and fourth trying to decide which is better. I agree with Daniels assesment on the 12 but it is way too close to call...so i blended them...2 parts KA3 and 1 part D12 and you have the perfect Dalmore. You get the fruity sweetness up front from the 12 and the better finish on the back end from the KA3
"it could be that we're 4 videos deep ---- hic" love it!
That bottle is 80$ Canadian where I live!
My favorite dad joke is still the one about the deers
Review Johnnie Walker blue and Gold not original… but its so readily available
Does anyone know what's different between Bruichladdich Port Charlotte "Scottish Barley" and Bruichladdich Port Charlotte "Islay Barley"? Are they actually two different scotch or just newer label?
I bought a bottle because of the cigar video
Just tried my first glass of Scotch Whiskey. Not much of a Whiskey drinker, but have lost my taste for beer, sort of. Thought I would give Dalmore 12 a try. My first impression hasn't gone so well, I am somewhat saddened by this. I will pick it up and try again . There was some things I liked. The roasted coffee taste was pleasing, I was overwhelmed by the cinnamon but disappointed I was unable to taste the fruits or sweetness. Is there anything I can do to dring out the sweetness? Jason Alexander
1 hour later: Never mind I have drank another glass. I'm getting some smokiness, orange and some cider or apple taste . The cinnamon died down some and coffee is still there. Interesting.
I can't find your Cigar Malt review. Does anyone know what video it's in?
Can u please give me tip for starting cherry cask whiskies? Im really curious about those. So far Im really hooked on Laphroaig (had 10yo and Select so far and loved it!) had also talisker 10 but dont like briney really. Thanks a lot, ure awesome! Greetings from Czech Republic!
Hey Daniel, where is this Cigar Malt video? I can't find it any where.
$70 in Colorado, but Dalmore 12 IS Absolutely the BEST!
Lou $100 in British Columbia. Being Canadian is hard.
LOL that joke delivery was so badgood. Daniels face already laughing before he gets it out. Great review guys keep them coming.
thanks, Adam
The people I know dislike the coloring because it changes the flavor. Like chill filtering strips away a vital component, e-150a adds a bad one.
Dalmore 12 pairs wonderfully with almonds.
That's a damn good idea.
Best opening ever
i agree. 'twas very informative.
Rex I would have been completely oblivious to the fact you hadn't talked about the whisky if you hadn't mentioned it.
I feel about Dalmore the way Danial feels about MaCallan. It's a decent whisky, with top shelf marketing. #MaCallanRules
i Just bought my first Dally, kinda agree. Nice but not that wonderful.
15 is the sweet spot for me😎
your videos are entertaining as usual but i was wondering if your can or are willing to do a top 5 or 10 choice for blended or single malt whiskeys from a certain region. not saying you should do one soon but maybe for a special event like obtaining 10K subscribers. i would like to say out of many of the whiskey reviewers on yourtube your is by far the most entertaining. thank you for all your effort on your channel, and Rex AKA "Darth Mooch", i mootched an entire bottle of Highland Park 12 from my friend because i said i wanted to try some Scotch! I hope i did you proud!
We're actually hoping to do a top ten list shortly!
Is there much of a difference BTW the Scottish Barley and Islay Barley Port Charlotte? I was drinking the Islay Barley last night and got some of the notes you described but alot of different ones too. It could just be subjective but I don't have the other one to compare.
I need to A/B those. I'll get back to you on it.
Dalmore is some damn fine scotch, I'd be laughing my ass off too. Scotch like that is pure happiness.
12:50 I found a 2017 version of Rex's "bye". Please A/B compare to 2020. Thank you. ;)
I think I'm going to pick up a Dalmore 12, I love monkey shoulder but want to try something a bit more complex.
I didn't like Monkey Shoulders. I gave the bottle to a friend of mine. But the Dalmore 12 is really nice.
I got a bottle of Dalmore 12, and I didn't get much smoke off of it, but I got a lot of dusty leather and cloves. I actually *braces for hate * didn't really enjoy it? I wonder if I got a bad bottle or something. Maybe I should order it at a bar and see if mine was off or something.
Port Charlotte heavily peated might be my favorite whisky in the world. It has more complexity than Laphroaig or Ardbeg, but it's more drinkable than Lagavulin.
The port charlotte is amazing. Don't feel bad about Dalmore. There are a lot of people who don't prefer it.
Most likely you're a chickenwuss.
Have you reviewed Balvenie 14 Carribbean?
I just saw this as a flash sale online for 38 Euros. Worth a purchase?
When Chuck Norris was in middle school, his English teacher assigned an essay: "What is courage?" He received an A+ for turning in a blank page with only his name at the top.
Hello, how are you, quite well, thank you very much
I wonder wether Daniel would do the throwing trick with that Macallan M too? I bet not :D
I'm a recent subscriber, but hooked! Keep up the good vids guys!!!
Yeah, I'm not sure I could keep up with that one. Although I've seen Richard throw 60yr old Dalmore on the floor.
Whiskey Vault Whiskey Vault crazy... I even twitched knowing this is just a 50$ bottle... Can't imagine throwing a 60year old 😮
@@WhiskeyVault Noooooo way! Well when you can, you can.
this channel is so awesome since I started watching it I have been buying a different whiskey a month and also now for my birthday just hand out a list of whiskeys for people to get me that I want!!!
As I sip my second sheep dip, I've decided it's my new favorite. Cuz... I'm out of 4 roses.
Love the one you're with.
Who the hell is Coldplay?
Coldplay is this weird group of dudes who got famous when one of them married Gwyneth Paltrow.
..... wait for it......
*sound of heads exploding from every Coldplay fan on our channel*
Who the hell is Gwyneth Paltrow? Is she a Guy Clark groupie?
hahahahahahahah
Slam!
Daniel, after watching several Ralfy Reviews, (which, along with modern rouge, i found because of you guys. I'm seeing a trend here) it sounds like many, if not most, whiskies add E150. Does that sound accurite? What are your thoughts?
I lot of them do (In Scotland), but there's a large and growing movement towards no longer adding.
Just bought my first bottle and didn’t realize I paid over MSRP until now🤦🏼♂️.
Damn it, I actually laughed at the 'shellfish' joke
Did you guys use a different camera or video settings for this video? In comparing it with Ep 165, it's darker and has less contrast.
IDK i personally enjoy the more vivid color but thats just me :)
Same camera, but the lighting in that room changes dramatically depending on what day we shoot.
What about reviewing that scotch from the Kingsmen movie. Dalmore 62. I'm sure Rex would love another Dad Joke choice. ;)
i can be convinced
