Gotta say i love these reviews. No bullshit snobbery just a 2 blokes hanging out talking shit. Thats my kind whisky tasting.
Being an Aussie it would be great if you could do even one review on an Australian whisky. I know they would be pretty hard for you to get though.
I bought a bottle of Starward yesterday and absolutey loved it. Made in melbourne just a few hours from where i live

Glad you're watching! I think Aussie's and Texans have a natural affinity for each other. Both prize the zero bullshit environment.
We did a video for Starward!

I've read a lot of whisky blogs and watched a lot of whisky vlogs but this episode was the best. I've never seen anyone try to recreate a blend with what they have on hand.
That was just fantastic. Is that a tear in my eye? Thanks fellas.

I still haven't bought my first bottle, but when I do, my boys have already started working on the toast for you. Me, five of my boys, four of my girls and the long haired mess cook will toast you like a fat marshmallow! Great episode. Had another hard day, but watching you two have fun and still manage to inform, inspire and help the less gifted (me), really helped to shed the b.s. of the day. Thanks, guys! I'm going to the local liquor store this weekend to buy something, anything just so I can start. We've already started planning the whisky vault! My toast and vids coming soon....

I've recently found that I need to add water to Green Label in order to enjoy it, but I REALLY enjoy it...I get red apple peel, toasted coconut, a buttery cookie, and sort of a caramelized sugar and a tiny hint of peat smoke...

Yes, this comment is coming in 8 months late, but I am compelled to share this for any newer Scotch drinkers, like myself.... Simply, I tried this for the first time 2 days ago... Up until that time I have been on a quest for flavor.... Scotch, Single malt Scotch,,,,So in the past 2 years I was on the SNOB TRAIN.... Single malt, no blends,,,, But, at the suggestion of a stranger at the liquor store, I bought a Johnny Walker Green Label... OH MY GOD !!! This is a marvelous whisky.... MARVELOUS... So today I went back to that same store and bought 3 more bottles of this phenomenonally great flavor in Scotch, from that same case... So, for all of those that think their Scotch must be unblended single malts, do yourself the biggest favor you can, and try this... You will be pleasantly surprised....

Hello guys, and " salud " from a now fan of the channel from mexico, been watching your very interesting clips, and this one was fun. so since 18 y.o. (maybe less, lol) been a drinker of mostly beer and whiskey, here in my hometown (close to the border to az) the heat is nice most of the year and the way to drink whiskey is with ice and topochico (you had that one with the blue label) and mostly are blended like red, black label (tops) buchannan, along those. when i got married i bougth a bottle of green label and is a favorite of mine, good that it was brougth back. now ive been tasting lots of single malts, and want to takeit to the next level (for me) and start with the islay whiskeys, so the ones i can get here in mexico, are caol ila 12, talisker 10 and laphroig 10, which one recomend first?. already saw your reviews, leaning to laphriog because isnot in the green label, but i think it doesnt make sense, ha.

hey guys I went to the website!! looks wicked! one small suggestion, the selection menu is a bit large and takes up a lot of the screen on my laptop. If that could be made just a touch smaller, or if it retracts as you scroll down it would make things much cleaner.
Also, I'm thinking my next shopping trip will include a bottle of green label, caol ila, and talisker.... gonna be a pricy trip :(

Loved this episode. Great work guys! You're very entertaining. Question, doesn't the 15 year age statement require all the whisky to be at least 15 years old? Or is it different for blends?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому +1

If it has an age statement, then the youngest whisky in the mix has to be the age at least as old as the age marker on the bottle.

    Hi Daniel and Rex,
Like many others I found you through the Modern Rogue. I was trying to research a good whisky for a friends retirement present. I always saw whisky as something you have as a shot with a beer when you're looking to wake up 3 miles out to sea strapped to an oar! ( see, I watched the whisky advent calendar too!)
After watching loads of your videos, and loving them, I then went and dug out the Christmas present I was given last year, a bottle of Jameson. (Mooch points maybe?) I tried it, and found that I liked it! I even tried to search for the flavours. After watching the Monkey Shoulder video I went and bought a bottle (lost my mooch points?) and I love it!
I now have an ever growing list of whiskies that I want to try, and a plan for my own whisky vault in my house! (Currently convincing my wife that it's a modern house 'must have' item!)
I hope to one day visit you guys and drink whisky, that would be an awesome day! Maybe even take your course!
Your videos are fantastic, you guys are a great double act. To make it fair, Daniel is now my favourite Somm (awesome stories, nerd facts and dad jokes) and Rex is my favourite Mooch ( because-Mooch! Why else?)
Keep doing what you're doing, it's brilliant.
As we say in Yorkshire, ' three kicks o' cellar door and a run raand table'. Yeah, I don't know either, but it sounds good.
    Cheers, Matt

Okay so now that my spreadsheet is linked on your site, I might have to go through and put in some proper links on the extra 'Sheets' that I added so that people know where to look for the originals and who did them in the first place. It honestly was just to have the references in the same sheet without having multiple spreadsheets going.
Although it may be better to actually split the links up on the site into my first sheet and then link to the original for the others so that it's done properly.
On a whiskey note, tasting note that is, that JW Green Label looks/sounds delicious! Might have to be part of my next purchase along with the Bakery Hill i'm trying to get.

Maybe get a small white board to illustrate where the whiskey lies on the curve compared to others. Yes, I'm commenting on an older video that I'm watching, there's probably 30+ of yours I haven't seen yet... I'm picking the good or great whiskys and I've skipped some of the weird Texas or US strange stuff that hardly ever is any good (a random thought there for you).
I see you are subscribed to "Scotch Test Dummies" ... Cool.
For folks who haven't yet watched the "Scotch Test dummies" UA-cam videos I would suggest starting with their earliest videos. The progression of the STDs from their starting point is fascinating (plus a lot of fun). Their latest videos have per episode "call outs" that they repeat, but what's cool is when you're watching their shows progress from the beginning and they happen to stumble into one of these things for the first time. I love how they started by recording their videos in Bart's Kitchen, recorded some weird ones over at Scott's house, then later you watch them building their studio (slowly) in Bart's basement. I got my start with Rafly's videos, but the Scotch Test Dummies, if you start at their beginning is far more fun. Actually Ralfy is serious, and interesting, fun not being a key point. Scotch Test Dummies are fun.
I really enjoy the way you (Daniel) blend the single malts to match a blended product. I think this really shows off your Sommelier talents, which I acknowledge, you are pretty damn good!
    Cheers!

The Green and Platinum 18 are my favourite JW blends. I may get hate for this, but I'm not crazy about the Blue.

How does the green compare to the black? Black is my preferred scotch, based primarily on friendliness/cost. I wouldn’t mind the extra cost if it was still reasonably friendly, while introducing new complexities.

I've had a bottle of JW Green sitting around for a few years now; wasn't really my favorite at first tasting but seeing this video convinced me to pull it out and give it another go. And knowing what flavors to look for, and spotting the commonalities between it and the single malts it's derived from, I've found a new appreciation of the stuff thanks to you guys. Cheers!

Yes Johny Walker. I miss him. He used to be on my shelf, but saddly he has vanished. I wonder where he had gone. Hey I just started the lyrics to a new song. Oh and my wife is punnishing me for drinking all her Grants sherry cast so I replaced it with two.
