- So today we got the keys to a Honda which I've never driven; a Honda Civic Type R FN2! Now considering the building of this car, it wouldn't be fair to take it on the roads, so we book on to potentially the last track day of the year at Donnington Park!

These cars get a bad rep, but they can be made fast with the right mods and they handle well too.

@@charlienicholaswxm4505 The noise part is subjective I guess, but I have definitely heard better sounding K20s.
They're fast enough out of the box, 0-60 sub 7 seconds and pretty much 150mph if you desire.

I've owned 49 cars in the past 20 years and I'm currently dailying a stock fn2 and it's fantastic all round to be honest and bulletproof, only bought as a stop gap and I'm not craving anything else right now.
I got one recently, great little car
@@bogmasher mine will do 40mpg on a run,as long as you keep the oil clean and topped up the only money you will spend on these is filling up the petrol tank.
They're good cars and great mix of performance and reliability for a daily. They do have a number of known little niggles though (leaky struts, water leaking into the boot, rusty roof near the window, sticky brake calipers, dodgy dash soldering, prob few other minor things). The engine is great though and will easy do 200k+ miles with regular oil changes. If you keep on top of these cars they will go forever.

I had to change the VTEC Solenoid the other week (with the oil pressure switch) fairly expensive part but managed to fit it ok. I've changed the PCV valve and got the clutch replaced including a new light weight Fidanza flywheel. Hopefully that will be it for a few years.
You have to account for different skill levels on a track day. You can't get angry at them if you're sat in their arse. Give people space and send it when you can find gaps 🤷 you can always slow down and create space before you go on the charge again

It was the random slamming on the brakes which I was complaining about!

“People driving like dick heads this has been the worst” yet you’re the dangerous one trying to overtake in corners and trying to get in peoples back seats. Just chill out, give people space. If you allow for more braking room, you’re not gonna get startled when someone has to brake into a corner. Just gotta remember it’s not an actual race and just a bit of fun. Don’t risk it just cos you’re technically quicker. Stick to the rules and be safe man.

@B L only if you can't drive the ep3 is faster, Rear end stability is poor so is the chassis

Own one of these wee beauties, in black too👌 had it 6 months and in the process of getting it to where I want it, awesome cars for the money and I would imagine quite handy on track too with the right mods

Got a k11 micra with the exact same 3rd gear issue. If you ever figure out what's causing it let me know lmao. I've been told sometimes it can just be the gear linkage getting a lil stiff and needing disassembling and regreasing

Hi Lee, to be frankly honest. Your driving in this video is purely dangerous. If you listen on the briefing you shouldn't overtake on corners so i'm not sure why you are sitting up peoples arses on corners and swearing? You have all day to get on and off track. You can always drop back or better go to pits and re-enter to create a gap... Every trackday has different skill groups.
Funny how he says he thinks some of the guys 'haven't done many trackdays', when I'm pretty sure he hasn't either.

Used to have an fn2, stock brakes are crap, can get brackets to use megane Brembos to stop brake fade 👍
Maybe on track, I've never had any issues with the stock brakes on mine, they pull her up lovely.
I had one too! Bit gay torsion bar rear suspension haven’t heard of that since my Saxon days lol

Taking the interior out and putting an exhaust and intake on classifies as 'building' a car now?
The car itself was really good, problem is that these engines are really good but they lack power compared to turbo engines... they work really really good on low weight cars like older cars and the FN2 was heavier... this doomed the car and people started to say it was bad etc but in fact it was a really good handling car with a proper LSD and right chasis setup

Could be a 3rd gear syncro issue. I have a FN2 type R and have noticed not all the time, but every so often car struggles to select 3rd did some digging and apparently it’s a known issue. Don’t know if it helps some people say a good gear box oil change can help it. Good to see a FN2 on the channel 🤙🏼
I have the same issue. It doesnt always happen and even if driving slow, as if it doesn't go in all the way. Did you fix it and if so, what was it?
@@carolusdero6663 Hey, no my issues was more when changing at higher rpm into 3rd. Now I know of the issue I always make sure 3rd is engaged before letting of the gear stick and coming off the clutch. Sees to happen less now.
@@carolusdero6663 adjust clutch at pedal under dash to bring the bite point higher and problem will be solved
@@mickgee130 I ended up changing clutch which solved the issue. And also other shifter cables because they had play.
But since 3 weeks I'm driving an fk2. 😁

I built it not area motorsport 😜 had Jonny at area do my box and help with set up but all done by me 🦾 fancy breaking it tut tut 😂😂😂

Much better on track than the ep3's especially when modded.
Ep3 drivers are worst on track, many think their professional racing drivers.
I took my fn2 on track. Sounded beautiful but doesn't have the speed. Many cars were overtaking me.
Fuck everyone else mucka it's smile per miles and I love mine. You can use every bit of the 200 ponies and have a right laugh with your foot planted.
Just had an LSD fitted and WOW you can take corners alot faster and love it even more.
I'm never getting rid as there not worth much money wise but worth loads in enjoyment. Plus they never age unlike us 🤣🤣

@@1982james111 I've done lsd well mate, the difference is night and day, i would also suggest adding a rear sway bar as it makes a big improvement for our cars

@Matthew Morgan wat ye mean outdated the older the Honda the better I’ve got K20A in a Honda eg and it’s gets way more looks then the ep3 even , way faster and lighter and the fn2 is just horrible looking it’s the worse looking type r out of the lot by far ,the back lights are disgusting the spoiler ya can’t even see out the back window and feels slow and 2 new for me personally
Have both and they drive pretty much identical, you just have many more creature comforts in the FN2.
