I appreciate that you’re not so keen on sunny days from a photography viewpoint, but I have to say I love videos like this in the Lakes bathed in brilliant sunshine. I’m really enjoying this Walking the Wainwright’s series Glenn. 🍺

Hi, Glenn. I’ve just discovered your channel and love it. I’ve watched a few of your walks and, at 66 and just retired, have the time to watch more. Your walks bring back cherished memories of those I did starting 45 years ago. Not so many these last 15 years but you have given me the desire to get back to the lakes this year and reconnect with old and some new walks. Love your presentation, content and great explanation of the walks and points of interest. Thank you.

Sorry about your lens, you have my sympathy, my Pentax K-se has just packed in, it's like loosing a limb. The Old Corpse road leads you to one of the most iconic views in the lakes. Absolutely love it. Again a wonderful hike. Thank you.

What amazing weather conditions. The view at the start to Harter Fell is awe inspiring. I last experienced these conditions a few years back when I went to from Buttermere over to pillar and back. Still recall those feelings - I could have stayed there for ages. Thanks for sharing. I have selside on the to do list. That view by the old buildings over to blea tarn just fab.

This is the wonder of nature, at the head of the valley are many rare alpine wild flowers in summer, one is the Yellow Mountain Saxifrage which can be seen in between the rocks and tiny streams just over the wall from the car park, the flowers grow from the beginning of August onwards.

Thanks again for my weekly dose of sanity. Makes all the difference to my Sunday evenings.🙂
I'm not a lover of the cold (southern softie) so it's good to see the fells through your eyes whilst I relax on the sofa. However, looking forward to the time when there are less miles between me and my favourite corner of this land.

Spectacular conditions and clarity like I've rarely ever seen. Again, I did these fells over two walks, Branstee first as an impromptu add-on to tackling the eastern wall of Longsleddale - trudge up by one fence, trudge down by another to Gatescarth. With Selside I was privileged to ascend from lovely Swindale by the Corpse Road, back in the days before cars were completely banned. I parked at the farm, with permission granted as long as I was gone by 5.00pm. up and back, via Mosedale beck, in good time, 3.00pm exactly as I'd anticipated (I was nipping home overnight to watch United in the Champions League, one of the reasons for choosing Selside that day, to be handy for the M6: won 4-2 and drove back the next morning). So the territory between the two summits was all new to me and very interesting.

Fabulous video of another super walk in a favourite area. I agree entirely about that view - I must have sat there for months in total if you add up all the hours I've spent gazing up Riggindale from there and the number of sunrises and sunsets I've seen from there. It's a really magical spot. When I used to live in 'Londonium' I would drive up for a long weekend, park at the bottom of the Corpse Road and camp by those ruins and then walk the skyline for the weekend.

Brilliant video Glen. I agree coming off the old corpse road to that view of haweswater takes your breath away. I would have loved you to take some photos of that scene. I went on your site looking for them but alas none there. I know there's no cloud or moody scenes, but these snowy shots and blue skies appeal to people too. Survey structures were used to mount the theodolite for the construction of Haweswater. Tarn Crag and Grey Crag have them also. I found Selside Pike and the Corpse road to be wonderful to walk, and I have several B&W pictures of the ruined buildings that look good with that backdrop of the drop down to Haqeswater. I agree it is one of the best views in the Lake District. Far Eastern and the Northern Fells are my favorite areas .

Loving this series of videos. I’ve watched every minute of every one. Great work: inspiring too.
You definitely need to up your glove game if you’re getting cold fingers! Get some bigger, thicker ones. I always take two pairs so that when the first pair inevitably becomes sweaty/wet I can change into a dry pair. It’s a great tip I picked up from a BMC winter mountaineering seminar a few years ago.
Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Another cracker Glenn! Some truly stunning views! We have a similar path to your 'Old Corpse Road', down here in Cornwall. It's called the 'Zennor Churchway' or "Coffin Path" that leads from St Ives to St Just along a fairly flat section of the land. Been used for centuries to carry the dead to and from the churches to homesteads. 🙂

There’s something special about the color (temp kelvin?) of the snow in shadow that’s almost electric blue, versus the sunlit snow that’s almost golden in comparison.
In my camera, with “sunlight” setting, it often leans more blue in shadow than it seems to the naked eye (don’t trust your eyes, they constantly adjust), but it also seems the snow acts like a grey card… that’s showing my age… 🤦🏼‍♀️

There's an identical survey construction on Tarn Crag, along with this one on Selside Pike and the beacon on Thornthwaite Crag, they (as far as I know) mark out the route of the underground tunnels that pipe water from Thirlmere and Hawswater reservoirs to Manchester. Don't quote me on that tho.
