You know whats crazy, you can actually push (modern) trains. They run so efficiently on the tracks that they lose very little energy. That being said, I dont know if North Koreans trains are that good

You should read the Aquariums of Pyongyang for a closer look into just how disgusting life is for a North Korean

However, it is not a place where people are eating rats to survive, getting killed for having the wrong haircut, or pushing trains when they shut down. North Korea is a terrible place to live, but she is making shit up to profit. Even her accent is fake.

You can be critical of the DPRK regime without making shit up. i don’t know… i’m korean and i’ve heard many north korean refugee stories before… her stories are just so exaggerated and contradictory- why wouldnt you have some level of skepticism? i feel like that’s the correct, healthy reaction. other than completely trusting a person just because they DO harbor a world view

I have two recommendations for books you might consider reading (don’t worry, they’re easy enough for a streamer to understand) given that you have a small bookshelf behind you. I lived in China teaching English in the early 2010s before grad school and developed a fascination with North Korea. I devoured nonfiction and documentaries during that time. Her autobiography, In Order to Live, is one but Nothing to Envy is utterly horrifying and heart wrenching.

She is lying. If she isn't entirely lying then there is no point in listening to anything she says as there is no way to ascertain which details are true or which are not. The rule for finding information about any socialist nation is to never look at any Conservative or liberal source, as much of what they say is unreliable due to their active hatred for the existence of the country and their incorrect understanding of the history of Korea (especially during the revolution).
Its best to look at socialist and communist sources for analysis and background information as they are often the most balanced and accurately critical when talking about nations. A good place to start is @Hakim on youtube, he's a Iraqi communist and doctor who has done multiple videos on why the western depictions of socialist countries are shallow and propagandist and unrealistic.
To even think that they could get a bunch of, as she describes herself, malnourished people to pull an entire train for 10s of 100s of miles or kilometers. Even empty (which sounds silly to be pulling an empty train for no reason) is still like 300 tons. At 30 tons a cart and lets say each train only has 10 carts that is 300 tons. For reference Strong men, who are well fed and have heavily trained for years, pull one cart for like 30 feet and then they are completely drained and very exhausted.

Ngl I heavily disagree with the setup portrayal of both Andrew Shultz and Yeonmi Park. Andrew Shultz is actually hilarious , and Yeonmi Park though most likely playing up a few of the stories from her time in North Korea should still be appreciated for standing for a good cause and doing it so openly when being at such a risk. As someone who is completely unbiased on the political spectrum the only reason I can see for people to go after or look down on people like this are to push some sort of alternate agenda especially when going after a comedian of his talent and an activist pushing for a cause at a massive risk that everyone except for Kim Jong Un and his direct political underlings should be behind.
She’s literally been called out multiple times for outright lying (notably different from exaggerating) and being a political grifter. There’s no “standing up for a good cause” if you’re literally just lying about shit. I’d encourage you to read the diplomat article that’s linked in the pinned comment.
Also, no one is “politically unbiased”, but go off I guess. Everyone has political beliefs and the beliefs you have affect the way you understand the world.
You want to know what is unbelievably sad is I can tell exactly what country you are from, exactly which area of the country you are from, and exactly what type of person you are simply by your response and it is embarrassing. Let me take a wild guess you are from America, you live with your parents or leach of someone to survive and have little to no social interaction.
It's easy to tell the type of people who respond like you, who believe they have struggled so much in a place so near unimaginably better than a place like a North Korean defector comes from, who decide to try to force politics on normal people because you have nothing better to do, and are willing to again go after a person who had to defect a country at risk of theirs or their families death because you believe she is a political grifter.
You should really get a life and take a break off the internet if you are willing to respond to a completely reasonable comment with attacks and accusations about what my political beliefs are which again you don't know me.
