You wouldn't believe how well they took care of us, and pampered us, and waited on us hand and foot, everyday! I can't recommend them highly enough! Nike and Maria you are the best! Thank you so much for the wonderful time we had. You both really made it an exceptional and cherished vacation to the San Blas Islands...I hope to do it again someday...Terry
You made it easy for us, Terry, since you guys were great fun and we loved the group dynamic you developed over the time! Your wood work course looks so awesome, saw some of your pictures on FB, looked like so much fun and really interesting. Hope all is well and that our wakes will cross again one day! Ahoy, Nike
I agree fully with Nike . You guys made such a Great charter for us . Full of good vibes. So many great memory's from that trip . Look forward to another bonfire dance 😉 Cheers Maria
Terry, i liked the small interview you gave at the end of this video very much. You seem like a very nice and thoughtful and straightforward person and i respect that a lot. I wish you many safe and enriching travels to exciting places for many, many years to come.
Having followed you since the start, as one of your Patreons and as a lifelong sailor myself, I love how your narrative has developed since those early times onboard Karl. Sailing does that to us ... helps us see new things; and gain new perspectives on familiar things. In ways that land-people can’t always fathom, our lives are enriched by experiences at sea and among the people of the sea. You seem to have developed a kind of sea-serenity if I could put it that way ... singlehanded sailing presented many challenges to accompany the technical ones you enjoyed solving, but you’re a gregarious soul and there’s an inner happiness about your recent videos that is adding a new buzz. I hope your winter break at home is suiting you ... like you, I have plans for 2018 that involve boats, distance, people and options ... winter is a good space in which to think about such things! Go well .... thank you for sharing so much hard-won experience so interestingly. Roy
This video inadvertently has become a charter advertisement, because those folks look like they are fed well and having a great, relaxed time on board! Smooth sailing. Peace.
hehe, surely does not hurt if it's good advertisement for the charter business ;). But we mainly wanted to give a little insight in what running a charter business is like in a remote area like that and what it's like to be a guest on one of those. That's why we included some of the prepping and the food making etc. But of course, we are happy if it makes people wanting to book a vaca next season :). Ahoy, Nike & Karl
I think if I was a guest in your boat the only problem is that I would not want to come back home....! Just listening to the both of you laugh is enough to make me want to go. :)
Ahh, getting my sailing fix thanks to you Nike and Maria. I used to do work a little like that, feeding, entertaining, and transporting people by raft down a river in Northern Ca, so I know its a lot of 24/7 work. I'm an especially good cook because of this and other things that involve a lot of people in wild places. Fair Winds Mike
I know I always praise your videos. But this one is special. It's great to see how you're involved in the charter business now. The visitors are saying how they are your fans and wanted to meet you. One aspect of your life feeds the other. Love it when things are going well for you. Once again,,, great video Nike.
Your content is always unique and wonderful, but I never see anybody applaud the editing of your videos. The editing is wonderful, the choice of music and video takes is so easy to watch. making long boring videos is easy and does not take any effort.A lot of work goes into making a video easy to watch and listen to in a short amount of viewing time. Thumbs up.
Thank you Robb, I think you are very right, and I will forward your feedback to Timo and Patrice who worked on the editing for this episode. They are doing an awesome job and I have also learnt a lot about filming just by watching what they do with my footage. Ahoy, Nike & Karl
I am really greatful to them for letting me interview them about their time aboard and they were all really sweet about it. It was the first "mixed" charter on Joana and we were not sure how it was going to work out, but our guests developed a beautiful group dynamic over the week, which was awesome to watch. Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Wow, that was beautiful. I liked very much what the last guy had to say. He seems like a lovely person. edit: re-watched the video to listen to the people introduce themselves, to learn "the last guy´s" name. He deserves this much respect, at least. His name is Terry. I liked what Terry had to say.
Haven’t watched in a couple weeks and just saw this episode! I love the fact you two are doing “unstuffy” charters! You’re both so down to earth and fun! I think it’s great and wish you the best. Pleasant breezes to you!
I hope the guests were as generous with a gratuity like the guests were with the reality show "Below Decks". But it looks like Maria runs a nice casual charter....... just how I like it!!
Wow, how exciting to sail with you fantastic women and on such an awesome sailboat. Totally on my Bucket list of experiences to have, a down to earth trip much better than a 7 day cruise on a boring commercial cruise ship. Thank you for sharing your charter adventures, what a nice group of people. Hugs, 😚
SO Happy for you Nike and Maria! What a treat to share an ocean experience with wonderful people. It must bring you so much joy. It was fun to watch you all having fun. Can't wait for the next video.
It is really beautiful to see how people enjoy their time in the pretty San Blas islands and on Joana. The water taxi guy said to Maria one day "your guests always give you big big hugs when they leave, they seem to really connect to you". And I think that something that Joana creates, a homey feeling. And of course that makes one happy, to see that you contributed to making someone's time worth while. I've always loved that about working in tourism, Ahoy, Nike & Karl
You and your video editor (sorry I forgot his name) did a really great job on this. The tone of this video was just as chilled and fun as always. It could easily have turned into a commercial, but you kept it just right, bringing us along on the journey, not too sanitised, focussing on the people. Thumbs up from me!
I am happy you enjoyed the direction of the video. Of course it is nice if it brings some new charter guests for Joana, too. But our focus is more to show a little insight on how a charter business works in such a remote place and what it is like to be on one of those charters. And we were lucky that we had such great and jolly guests! Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Looks like loads of fun. Which I had been there. Pretty sure hanging out with you guys would be pretty cool, something to remember far into the years. Food looked yummy.
They were an awesome crew, we had a lot of fun. And they were really interested in how to work the boat, which was nice cause I only had to pick up the anchor by myself once to show them and then they took over for the rest of the week ;). Gotta love guests like that! Ahoy, Nike & Karl
It is so great that you can earn money doing what you love, and not have to go all the way home to do it. Also nice for you to share your world with the viewers.
I still like to go home and see my folks and friends. But you are right, it's a great way of earning money. It's beautiful if you can contribute to making someone's vacation a fun time. Ahoy, Nike & Karl

One of your better videos. I've heard you talk about Maria doing charters so it's nice to actually see one underway. I assume she has a web site? Would you please post the link? Also, does Maria have a Facebook page for her charter business? Lot's of questions here, but have you ever done a video about how she got into the charter business? Thanks and looking forward to the reply.
Hey Nike and Maria, that was fun to watch, and relaxing. Any chance you can mix scuba into your charter business? I would be totally up for joining you. Please post Maria's website for more information on this cool charter. Thank you for the adventures! Jess

hm, I am not sure, but as far as I know, that's only the case in Colombia, where you need to have at least one local on the boat as crew or something like that. Sorry, I am not really familiar with the regulations, that's just what I heard. And since there are a different bunch of charter boats in San Blas that do not have any locals on them, I would assume that it's not the case. You are not allowed to offer scuba diving or kite surfing, that's something I am sure about. But as far as my experience goes, as long as you pay your fees to the Kuna and involve them in the business (as in buying lobster or fish or vegetables from them or pay them to clean your hull...), they seem to be happy. You can defnititely only own land in Guna Yala if you are a Kuna or married to a Kuna. Ahoy, Nike & Karl

Viele Leute fragen sich ja, wie man sich finanziell über Wasser halten kann, wenn man so auf einem Boot lebt. Chartern ist eine von vielen Lösungen.
