Can't wait for the rest of the videos. So glad to see back on Karl! Those that follow sailing channels need to realize videos are often many months behind. Even SLV who has a business manager and plenty of new found money still are a bit behind even thought they ship out multiple thumb drives so others can up load them and are never more than a week or two away from the next island to be able to send out somewhat current videos. They rest of the sailing will normal be way behind if sailing to really remote places. Thats what I love about Delos. They go where they want and stay as long as they want even if that means videos are a year behind. Good luck with the pacific!
Now you have officially closed your Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico circuit, Nike. Congratulations on that. Nice to see your episodes stretching out to 10 minutes plus, can't get enough of you and Karl (and Maria and Niko etc.) Looking forward to your crossing and Pacific adventures. Fair winds.
YOU MADE MY DAY! I was fearing there would be no more Niko and Maria after the canal. Those two have become such an asset to Untie the Lines! Some awesome decisions you girls make. I'm really glad you have a friend to keep you company. I think your sailing skills will go up a few notches too.
I've always liked your music. I like the way it builds, peaks and diminishes with the story line. I always turn it up at the peaks and let it carry me away along with the visuals of the story.
Really seems like you have turned the corner and series III was what you envisaged when you started out. Congrats. New camera...good, new music...good. Pacific here you come!
Hey, Nike & Jeff - met you guys at Nike's talk in Miami - Great to see the new videos of such beautiful places & relaxing sailing! Love the big genaker pulling!! Keep the Awesome coming! BTW - Nike, I did sail to Cuba for two weeks in early April - Havana, then visited Vinales, Las Terrazes, etc. Thanks for the inspiration!!! Spanish is improving. So glad that you have friends aboard! All the best!!
WhiteSpotPirates Wonderful, friendly people! Beautiful island! Fantastic water!! Can't WAIT to go back!! Huge island - would love to spend months sailing the coast - especially the south western end - but still a working stiff so probably just a few weeks to one month at a time for a while. Less than a day from Key West so Definitely worth doing again!!
Great video (again)! Just a tip on the Chute .... it's easy to take down (even on your own) if you fit the tack (the forward, lower point of the sail) with a quick release. When you want to bring the Chute down, turn Karl away from the wind to put the relative wind on the quarter then release the tack and lower the halyard slowly, under control, tugging the sail down under the main boom and smothering it into a bag. The main needs to be set (it shields the Chute while you're bringing it down). I tend to have the genoa unfurled too (an additional shield). The "quick release" could be a snap-shackle or a length of line that is rigged via a turning block in the bows and can be let go from the cockpit. Hope that's helpful. Fair winds, Nike .... Roy"
Usually I rave about your courage and skill in tackling boat chores, big and small. This time I just want to compliment you and your editor on the quality of photography and attention to local details you always bring to the videos. Just about every other "cruiser" video features girls in bathing suits. Only yours features a parade of leaf cutter ants!
have not viewed in a while and I see you have gone to cuba and back and now going across pacific. your feet are no longer cold. good for you, i wish you a enjoyable cruise. I will try and follow your journey.
I've been following you for a while now, the videos are really nice. The scenery and places you show are beautiful. I think I'm in love .....with your boat that is. I'm old enough to be your father. Man...that's a nice boat, love what you did with it. On the other hand you've been tinkering with the motor way too much. By the sound of it, I figure it will konk out on you sooner or later...probably sooner. If you need a second hand for a long, long sail, I would be interrested in helping you. Bon voyage.
Patrick Coté 🤣 thanks for the offer, Patrick. I think by now you have seen what happened to the engine and that I replaced it with a new one. Best decision ever, so far. Happy to hear you enjoy the places that I show in the videos, I have enjoyed them all very much and glad that I can get other people to like them, too. Ahoy, Nike
A really nice video. You appear to be having a lot of fun and smiling a lot. Looking forward to your Pacific videos. Please be careful and I am glad you are not going solo across the big pond. Stay well and keep smling.
I gotta show Janna those ant pictures. It will freak her out! She'll thank me that most of our stay in Panama was on the boat. It looks like we missed you by about a month at Shelter Bay. We departed to Transit on July 4, 2016.
When I noticed you going back to Shelter Bay I thought oh god no - she'll never get out of there! But you made it fine. Seems like that place haunted you early on. You didn't have any trouble this episode! Good job Karl and crew!
I was wondering where you planned on installing this new beta? Seems like it was in the U.K. But your headed into the South Pacific. Anyway, no rush, Karl seems to be running nice for now, enjoy yourselves!
Kass Ritchey the engine failure happens in the Pacific, it's still to come up In the episodes. The repower will take place In Panama City. The engine was produced in the U.K. And is now ready to be shipped to Panama and hence will be installed here.
Exceptional video. How long do you expect to spend crossing to the Marquesas? It is good you have a partner for the Pacific challenge. As far as the blue and white sail is concerned, my sailing sources call it a Genoa. Good luck and bon voyage.
thanks for another good one! let me know whenever you want to talk beach cleanups, sea nomad is on the hard for the rainy season now but the journey continues on our channel. but i will be available more easily!
Spinnaker. there are different types, asymmetric and symmetric. There are versions/shapes of each, for the more technical racers trying to get every ounce of power from the apparent wind. You're flying an asymmetrical.
Niki, Your video's of your adventure are like a breath of fresh air after a long week. Your editing, music, Marie and Jeff all adding to your story. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more . . . . .
Great video but I'm confused. Are Maria and Niko crewing with you through the Panama Canal and then going back to Maria's boat, or are they staying with you from now on?
OK, I would just call it the chute . You know, might consider being a patron IF you could ditch the muzak 😵 😎 . So if I "get" it , this episode is on the East side of canal & your going thru to finally take on the Pacific ? That engine is possessed ! Maybe an in boat exorcism ? 😱 😊 . Oh well ....
steven k yes, you get it, this is east (well, actually north since the canal goes kinda north / south) of the canal, on the Atlantic side. I guess I should have thought about that exorcisms...might have saved me a lot of trouble ;)
Nike, you have earned the right to cross thePacific. Do it. Enjoy every minute of it. Sail. sailor girl. Captain your ship, sailing vessel Karl. May God sail along with you.
NeonsStyle I think they are quite a bit more north if I am not mistaken, but would have to double check. My boat is already in the Pacific, though. I crossed last year in August, it will come up in the episodes in 2 weeks :)
darrenmoorehead hm, no, it's not a spinnaker. In German we call this a Gennaker (have to check on spelling). U can also run it slightly on the side like an asymmetrical and it's not as big and belly as a spinnaker.
Asymmetric or gennaker pretty much the same, but it was probably called a drifter when it was made some where in the 80ties from the cut of it. Want some tips on setup and how to take down by yourself? I figure you already crossed and had plenty of time to by now if not let me know. Just sitting here waiting for an alternator...
shugardad haha, if it were that easy ;) and then what would I do with a bigger boat, no pants and no rum ? And this was a rhetorical question, I am not looking for suggestions here ;)
You have inspired me to sail around the world. I am very clumsy and have no experience, so I will probably kill myself in the process. Just wanted you to know you have blood on your hands.
I love this channel. But, we ended last season with your engine failure and we were all worried about it. Now we have had a few episodes without any explanation why it's fixed. Come on, don't be afraid if you did a deal. That's what we all would have done
Ian Burne hi Ian, I am very sorry about ur confusion. We are really trying our best to make sure everybody understands when this material has been filmed And where. In the beginning it says "August 2016' and Panama and you can see that I have not crossed the Panama Canal in the episodes yet. My engine failure is still coming up, it happened in the Pacific! If I did some "deal" I would surely tell u. Unfortunately there was not too much magic in solving this engine issue. I went back home for four months and worked my ass off...to buy a new engine. All of this material about the engine is still to come up. I hope I could clarify the situation and i kindly ask for your patience ;). If you do want to know what's going on in "real time", then you can follow my posting on Facebook. The videos are NOT real time...as I said, at the beginning of the video it will display the time of filming.
Ian Burne and, just to solve this confusion, too: last season ended with me sailing back to Panama...not with a busted engine ;). I think u might be confusing this with videos I released from home. The episodes of untie the lines are always labeled the following way: Untie The Lines followed by II or III in case of Season 2 or 3, then the number of the episodes #13 e.g. And then the name. Any "special" is Not part of the regular episodes and might therefore contain other information.
Hi nike. Thanks for putting me straight on this. I have indeed not been watching closely enough! I have not noticed the date at the start of the episode. I have now rewatched the last 10 regular episodes and finally get it. Hooray! Sorry for wasting your time. (This will teach me not to comment on stuff after a few beers late at night). I look forward to seeing more about your travels and maybe one day the channel will be no more than a few weeks behind. Trouble is I follow you on Facebook and instagram as well! Take care and safe sailing.
My favourite sailing channel. Great people mooching around the world with grace and humour. Thanks a lot!
"You, again!" - the response ftom ShelterBay!
Gotta love it!

You ladies are so very easy on the eyes.
Now you have officially closed your Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico circuit, Nike. Congratulations on that.

itsjojo4 oh she surely taught me a lot, yes! And no worries, there will be plenty more Maria and some more Niko in the future as well ;)
hi Nike. Thanks for your beautifully shot episode. Thanks for all the hard work you do for your viewers.
That was a nicely made canoe! Very pretty. Great vid!
great video like always.fair winds
I'd love to see side by side pics of Karl from when you first got him to now. You've done an amazing job! Fair winds and smooth sailing!
I've always liked your music. I like the way it builds, peaks and diminishes with the story line. I always turn it up at the peaks and let it carry me away along with the visuals of the story.
god bless you both. I wish i was going with you
Dame I love you! You are the best, keep the videos coming
Really seems like you have turned the corner and series III was what you envisaged when you started out. Congrats. New camera...good, new music...good. Pacific here you come!
Happy to hear Maria will be along in the Pacific. I was worried you might try it alone. Be safe friend.
You are very impressive! Great video, great work, and great attitude...
Around the SF Bay Area, we either call it a spinnaker and opening it is "Popping the chute"...

2jsims oh yes, u need some time for this big island...I will have to return one day as well :)!
Beautiful footage and a beautiful place to be. Nothing like fresh pick fruit. So much better than store bought.
Great video (again)!

Love watching your videos Thank you for sharing with us.
been following your travels for a while good luck with the crossing

Thanks for sharing, another great ⛵ video 👍
What a great dog!!

Slow Boat Sailing yes, we got there just at the beginning of August. And those ants, I thought they were everywhere ;)?
Love your videos. What an extraordinary woman you are.
After binge watching from the beginning for a over a week I'm all caught up! Darn!
One of your best videos 🌹
Those mangos straight from the tree are the best !
Ha, ha, "Shelterbay marina, Shelterbay marina, this is Karl over", response: "you again !" :D They really seem to have missed you ! :D
When I noticed you going back to Shelter Bay I thought oh god no - she'll never get out of there! But you made it fine. Seems like that place haunted you early on. You didn't have any trouble this episode! Good job Karl and crew!

mangoes and so good for you a good score ,cool hun
Great Video !
Your video's are the best way to start off my weekend, Nike!! When is the new beautiful red engine going in??
Ken James hm, most likely June / July :)
too cool ! come and see me in san diego ! sails up !
Exceptional video. How long do you expect to spend crossing to the Marquesas? It is good you have a partner for the Pacific challenge. As far as the blue and white sail is concerned, my sailing sources call it a Genoa. Good luck and bon voyage.

Drifter, blooper, asymmetrical... .. . The big colorful expensive thing that rips so easy -- that's what we call it.
You seem very happy lately. I hope that is so.
Billy m :) :) :)
I find myself singing Ba Da Um Bum Bum While working. It's calling me lol.
Spinnaker. there are different types, asymmetric and symmetric. There are versions/shapes of each, for the more technical racers trying to get every ounce of power from the apparent wind. You're flying an asymmetrical.

Wow, you visit such remote cool areas, too bad that you don't have a metal detector, you might find all types of old coins and relics.
I call it the beast because it can get real mean. The Jenoa can be handled with 2 people if practiced.
What happened to the engine bang issue ?
Cptn Uwe's Pirate Tales that was solved on last weeks episode, remember? At least for now ;)
Funny how life sometimes goes full circle. Ending where we began. TFS
Peter here - That German flags not gone full circle ending where it began LOL
No maybe not, But Karl has.
Great video but I'm confused. Are Maria and Niko crewing with you through the Panama Canal and then going back to Maria's boat, or are they staying with you from now on?
S/V Della Jean Maria is going to be crew for the next couple of weeks and then head back to her boat.
Thank You for answering my question. Back to work on my boat now. Be safe.

I'm waiting to see how Maria is going to get that big new Beta on board Karl (I bet she has a tool for that).
that was a great video!
Habe ich deine Interview im Hamburg auf Deutsch gewacht, is it hard sprechen German when u haven't spoken it in a long time?
Eric Crouch I don't think it really goes away, but sometimes certain words might come more easily in English because u just get so used to it.
was that Sid Olshefski?
cole hankins it was surely Sid, but I do not recall his last name. U will see him again when I cross the canal since he helped me to line handle.
Sid and Manuela were old dock mates in NC years ago. Get him to tell you about the time he met Manuela
How do you pronounce Gila (tequila) in German? Great vlog/editing/dog btw.
Jenoa or Jenica/jeneca? Not sure on the spelling.
jimmy c A genoa and a gennaker, whilst similar, are two different types of sail. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genoa_(sail)
congratulations on proving your ability to use Wikipedia.
I really hope you can find some music where the instruments aren't OUT OF TUNE !!
You should hook up with Sailing with Uma. Ur both there in the Caribean.
NeonsStyle I think they are quite a bit more north if I am not mistaken, but would have to double check. My boat is already in the Pacific, though. I crossed last year in August, it will come up in the episodes in 2 weeks :)
Oh right lol I keep forgetting that haha. They are still in Puerto Rico I think.
U again :D
So instead of being on the HOOK, you're back on the BUNGEE...😁
Spinnaker?
darrenmoorehead hm, no, it's not a spinnaker. In German we call this a Gennaker (have to check on spelling). U can also run it slightly on the side like an asymmetrical and it's not as big and belly as a spinnaker.

genaker :)
Eva Heimen that's what I thought too :)
You need a bigger boat. Stop spending so much money on NEW shorts and RUM. Good Video. Thanks!
shugardad haha, if it were that easy ;) and then what would I do with a bigger boat, no pants and no rum ? And this was a rhetorical question, I am not looking for suggestions here ;)
Your beyond suggestions. But you sure have good rhetorical questions! A new crew now and provisions. Hoist up the sail(s). Captain.
you pronounce "projects" like a Canadian.. :>
Spinnaker :-)
