I think a DAW is a personal choice but I switched to Ableton now over a decade ago and never looked back. All of them have their pros and cons, I recommend trying them both and see which one is more user-friendly and intuitive for you. You can also check this article, it might help: www.edmtips.com/guide-into-music-production-software-for-beginners/
@@EDMTips you are perfectly right. I know that there are few very good DAWs and i will not name them here because thats actually not important, being totally out of topic. But its still not clear for me if the update / upgrade to a new version is free or not. So if lets say i buy Ableton Live 12, when Ableton Live 13 will be released, the update to Live 13 will be free, or i will need to pay for it? @@EDMTips I think i got it. So the update to a new version is named "major revision" and its not free for Ableton. The link you gave me helped. Thank you!
Nothing compelling me to upgrade from 10. I use two big screens so don't care about stacking views. I actually play a keyboard so things like velocity and timing are done by me, not an algorithm. I have a ton of synths so don't care about Ableton's. And i'm quite happy with the browser as it is.
I've got the beta aswell though I have 1 big problem that is just the biggest deal breaker for me: I cant hit ctrl alt L to hide the thing at the bottom (dunno the name). also I dont think its worth the 200 eu for me to upgrade
Same amount of Collections, but with the new browser you can essentially have infinite collections (they'll be in the Library section instead) -- you save your searches by clicking the + button, but it works nearly identically, and with the bonus of letting you have your own group in other parts of the browser. Hard to explain over text, but it's been fantastic.
I have and now full in with Abelton from migrating from Logic . I work super quick and this new version suits that . With enhancements to the mixer - small but important I feel it's easier to see dB on tracks etc . My only gripe is Ableton's sends but it is what it is .@@EDMTips
Gutted there's not a OS intell download. They didn't say anywhere on their website that they wasn't going to do it either when they had their offer and I bet loads of people have been caught out by that.
@@EDMTips no, I'm talking sound... bounce out on master. I notice in 11 it was not the same of old. In the box it sounds one way, but the bounce out on master is not transparent.
Hmm browser looks like its stuck in the past and very cluttered. I havnt fownloaded the update yet gonna wait for a fir point updates and the mixer kinda looks like a window overlay but great they finally put it in there. I use several other daws and bitwig seems way better laid out to me with mix view options and the browsers of which you can have 2 even open at the same time.
It's definitely overwhelming when first opening Live 12 up, but I already love it so much more. It's so much more customizable, and you can essentially have unlimited Collections now by saving the searches. You can also hide default categories in the browser to clean it up.
Anybody else notice the scroll bars don’t show up? Ok if Im using my mouse to scroll as they show up but on my laptop with no mouse scroll they don’t appear.
@@EDMTips haha I’ve been using ableton on and off since it was first released. I could have done with your channel 20 years ago!! Learnt more in the past 12 months than all the other years combined
@@EDMTips That was mean. Either you trolled me, or didn't even understand what I was on about. Put some plugins with high latency around the project. Although ableton compensates them audibly, it is the only major DAW in existence that delays the audio visually in time with the playhead. SO for example I just put a fab filter linear phase EQ in high mode. The playhead will travel over the audio for whatever the latency of the plug in is, and there will be silence, and then the audio will play after the delay has passed. SO what you are seeing on screen is entirely different to what is being heard. For someone like me who mixes exclusively in UAD plugins, Live is a nightmare to work with cause I can't even audition samples in time with my eyes and ears, it can't be done. The playhead might be over the middle of the wav file for example, visually speaking, and then the start of it is what is playing. Which means the issue of LFO plugins having their timing all over the place if they are in a chain with latent plugins, probably still exists also. Ableton need a lesson from Bitwig on how to actually do PDC.
A new synth, some slight browser improvements, some MIDI randomization options and miscellaneous little tweaks ... is that it? For 200 Euro I expect much, much more. Nah. It's a no from me (until they lower the price considerably). Thanks for the overview Darling 😉
There are lots of good features but I hate that browser with a passion and I can't see how it can ever be refined to be good. It's been built so that you can categorise your things in a process akin to pulling teeth... one time. God help you when you want to change things later, or can't remember whether you tagged up a certain item or not.
@@EDMTips :) I'm being a bit fatalistic, so I should say instead that it's just unnecessarily slow rather than a complete block. If I want to know if an item is connected to a tag, I have to find the tag and check. I can't check the item at a glance and see, "Oh, it's in Clips and Drums and HipHop", which would have been possible with hover actions or just a different system.
Can we disable this stupid filter function? It takes more space than.my plugin list.. it slowest me down also it does not show plugin names properly. Some of my plugin are now showed with the same name.. i can just gues which of them is that one im searching for..

Nice! About 12 in 12
TBH i came off Ableton i used it for ten years i now use studio one 6 artist it was only £85
Great price!
Hi!
Im totally new in PC DAWs world and right now im testing few of them to decide which one i will choose.
So please help me to understand something...
On Ableton, we have to pay for the upgrade to the new version?
I think a DAW is a personal choice but I switched to Ableton now over a decade ago and never looked back.
All of them have their pros and cons, I recommend trying them both and see which one is more user-friendly and intuitive for you.
You can also check this article, it might help:

@@EDMTips you are perfectly right.
I know that there are few very good DAWs and i will not name them here because thats actually not important, being totally out of topic.
But its still not clear for me if the update / upgrade to a new version is free or not.
So if lets say i buy Ableton Live 12, when Ableton Live 13 will be released, the update to Live 13 will be free, or i will need to pay for it?
From the comments looks like the update / upgrade must be bought, but a direct answer will be very useful.
@@EDMTips I think i got it.
So the update to a new version is named "major revision" and its not free for Ableton.
The link you gave me helped.
Thank you!
Hi! So if I have Ableton 11 Suite version do I need to pay the 229 different right? I thought it would be free :(
Depends on when you bought it, I think
I've heard about the update, but haven't updated mine yet. Should i ? Any bugs ?
Haven't encountered any yet 🤞
Nothing compelling me to upgrade from 10. I use two big screens so don't care about stacking views. I actually play a keyboard so things like velocity and timing are done by me, not an algorithm. I have a ton of synths so don't care about Ableton's. And i'm quite happy with the browser as it is.
Fair enough, Remi, thank you for sharing!
أنا أستخدم Reason 12 يا ويل 🌹❤
👍🏻
12? I just upgraded to 11 a few weeks ago!
I think you must be eligible for a free upgrade then :)
WHAT'S THE SHORTCUT TO OPEN/CLOSE THE CLIP VIEW??? PLEASE (it was CMD+OPTION+L but now doesn't work)
my LES does not work anymore with 12
I've got the beta aswell though I have 1 big problem that is just the biggest deal breaker for me: I cant hit ctrl alt L to hide the thing at the bottom (dunno the name).
also I dont think its worth the 200 eu for me to upgrade
Fair enough, thanks for sharing!
What's the upgrade price from Ableton Live 11 Suite?
Its a secret. Ableton gave us all the answer on their website but told us "not to tell Benedict"
@@hatsaok8153I come for the comments 😂 also, what I can say for sure is if you are asking this question after release, you are paying 20% more 😂
You'll have to look at your account page. There was also a 20% off pre-order bonus, but I think that ended on release.
I also come for the comments. And stay for them 😁
Does it still crash with buffer size problems?
Not for me, not yet anyway :)
Can you have more than 8 Folders in The Collection Tab, Yey or No?
Same amount of Collections, but with the new browser you can essentially have infinite collections (they'll be in the Library section instead) -- you save your searches by clicking the + button, but it works nearly identically, and with the bonus of letting you have your own group in other parts of the browser. Hard to explain over text, but it's been fantastic.
Yah I've seen that, just wanted to make sure. Thank you for the kind words and help, I appreciate it!@@thelolmighty
Wonderful video -thanks
You're welcome, glad you lied it! Have you downloaded the new version yet?
I have and now full in with Abelton from migrating from Logic . I work super quick and this new version suits that . With enhancements to the mixer - small but important I feel it's easier to see dB on tracks etc . My only gripe is Ableton's sends but it is what it is .@@EDMTips
Can't have it all, can we?!
@@EDMTips 100% 👍🏻😎
"Finickity" lol Love it
😬
Gutted there's not a OS intell download. They didn't say anywhere on their website that they wasn't going to do it either when they had their offer and I bet loads of people have been caught out by that.
Does it sound better?
Depends on the producer’s skills
@@EDMTips no, I'm talking sound... bounce out on master. I notice in 11 it was not the same of old. In the box it sounds one way, but the bounce out on master is not transparent.
It depends on your project's sample rate, file type, dithering, etc.,
That's alot to get a subjective answer 😅
Go to display in preferences and find scroll bar, show , always
@@holographichotline5408 thanks so much for that - I raised a support ticket but didn’t know that option existed - why would it ?!? I’ll give it a go
Yes worked - must have reset in the update as I’ve never needed that option in the past unless it’s a new feature. Either way all good 😀
Love it when the community gets involved!
@@EDMTips haha I’ve been using ableton on and off since it was first released. I could have done with your channel 20 years ago!! Learnt more in the past 12 months than all the other years combined
amen brotherrrrrrr
Appreciate it! 🙌🙏Thanks for watching and supporting 🙂
It is not cracked yet so I guess I have to wait 🙈😅
I'll pretend I didn't see it 🙈
Let me guess, delay compensation still completely broken and playhead out of time visually with entire project when latent effects are used?
This time you guessed incorrectly.
@@EDMTips I will test it right now with a linear phase EQ and BRB!
That said, live is a lot of fun to use, if one is willing to exclusively use only zero latency native plugins.@@EDMTips
i'm so dissapointed that i dont have ROAR in my standard version ((( sad
I can understand your disappointment, it is an excellent tool
Can you make a « how to make a sound like coocooma » please ? 🥹
Thanks for the suggestion, I will add this to my list :)
Yes 👍🏻 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers, Lee!
How can I download the said pack ?
By clicking the link in the description
@@EDMTips I have tried but to no avail
Yo! 😍😍
Hey there!
@@EDMTips Really Helpful!! 😍✨ Thankyou ❤️
A new synth, some slight browser improvements, some MIDI randomization options and miscellaneous little tweaks ... is that it? For 200 Euro I expect much, much more. Nah. It's a no from me (until they lower the price considerably). Thanks for the overview Darling 😉
You're welcome! Roll on Ableton 13 then? :)
@@EDMTipsMaybe :)
There are lots of good features but I hate that browser with a passion and I can't see how it can ever be refined to be good. It's been built so that you can categorise your things in a process akin to pulling teeth... one time. God help you when you want to change things later, or can't remember whether you tagged up a certain item or not.
Looks like I'll have to exercise memory more :)
YES DUH
Can we disable this stupid filter function? It takes more space than.my plugin list.. it slowest me down also it does not show plugin names properly. Some of my plugin are now showed with the same name.. i can just gues which of them is that one im searching for..
