This first film was a financial success and became a "cult classic" but it was the cliches that gave it the mixed reviews. Believe it or not, the sequels are better especially because Frank Grillo is in them but also because the concept gets more expanded on with each film and doesn't overload the audience. More action in the other films as well but the prequel and last installment were weak so just stick to the trilogy. Great reaction.
"The Purge" was inspired by a TOS Star Trek episode, where computer that was mind controlling humans and making them peaceful and subdued would give them 12 hours, starting from Red Hour, to go wild. There is also a movie production company called "Red Hour" for the same reason.
"Rich people are fine, poor people are fucked". And that's why we need to send $100 billion to Ukraine as Americans starve to death, and to compound that we sanction half the grain supply on earth out of the food supply, to kill more people, all for profit. That's why I don't support that foreign war or the global sanctions. We're trying to shoot Russia by firing the round through ourselves first.
When it comes to weapons class, they are the following: Class 1 : Basic firearms. handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Class 2 : Destructive devices. Bombs, grenades, rockets, missiles and any other device designed to explode or release harmful substances. Class 3 : Blunt and Bladed melee weapons. Knives, Brass knuckles, Truncheons, etc Class 4: Military grade weaponry. Tanks, Howitzers, RPGs,etc. Literally impossible to acquire unless you are military personnel. Class 5: Experimental Weaponry. Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, and Radiation.
Okay the fact that knives and brass knuckles and shit like that are BELOW BOMBS AND GRENADES AND ROCKETS is TERRIFYING to me. I don't know anything about anything in this topic, so I'm sure there are reasons, rules, regulations, etc. in place for that placement. But I don't know, that just seems crazy to me because things like pocket knives and hunting machetes and other blades are so accessible. And yeah I know Class 1 weapons are also crazy accessible, just go to your local freakin' Walmart, but still. I don't know lol
"You don't know how bad it was. The poverty...the crime. This night saved our country." Because allowing poor people to get killed legally is actually a singularly striking way to handle both those things.
@antoncastillo6191 it would never happen in real life, because decorum is the only shield that The Rich have against the poor. Once they make the Poor Realize that the jig is up.. The Poor would devour them. Literally.

Also, The Purge was made by the Blumhouse, who made Black Phone and Sinister, which are also Ethan Hawke movies. I believe he's on the production team there.

Great reaction. I hope you will react to other movies too, at least the 2nd one (my favorite). It will give you a deeper perspective of the world of purge, how they make money through that night, the purpose, the nature of humans. Beside the movies there is also a tv show with two seasons (maybe you can watch it just on your own. I like it).
Honestly I’m glad y’all are watching these, in my opinion you can watch all 5 but the first three are the only ones really worth watching. The second one is the best
do you know where the idea for this movie came from? The director & his wife were riding down the highway one day & someone cut them off. The wife said to the husband, Hun wouldn't be nice to get a freebee, (meaning to get someone back for someone & not suffer any consequences) The husband said, wow hun that's pretty dark, and that's how he came up with the idea for the movie!
hearing Steven talk about them not installing a panic room makes me want you to react to Panic Room from 2002. great movie with a young Kristen Stewart and Jodie Foster. highly recommend! ❤
I love that y’all call Lena “Cersei” cuz it’s true after GoT it’s hard not to associate her with that role. she absolutely killed it in The Purge and GoT.
When watching Game Of Thrones, I knew Cersei looked so damn familiar!!! She played the mom in the Purge movie! I don’t know if you guys noticed, I just started the video but that was so cool to notice. She’s a great actress.
I wonder how many people might disappear on purge night, but actually just wound up chained in somebodies basement, safe room or being human trafficked from then on out. You might be able to get someone to sign over assets during the purge, idk. Maybe if there were rules against it or severe penalties for crime caught the rest of the year, like immediate capital punishment.
amazing reaction guys! I hope they react to the whole purge saga. Hopefully these movies don't make them fall into moral judgments, patriotism and stuff. This movie takes you to those levels and makes you question your morality.
If I was the wife I would have sat there until the sirens rang out and then said congratulations you survived the purge. And then I’d pop pop them then. I’m good with jail 🤷🏾♂️
The next one is better and you get to really see the outside. The Level 4 weapon law bugs the crap out of me because, if ALL crime is legal and emergency services are unavailable, what are they gonna do about it?
Something i really like about these movies is that the homeless man that came in clutch at the end is in the second & third movie oh yeah & if the Purge were real i'd set up Vietnam war style traps all around my house
Do your homework on the Illinois new laws that started first of the year some are calling it "purge law" What you can do and get away with is pretty crazy, and all the people they are letting out of jail, also the offenses you can do without going to jail is crazy!
Love this channel!! Was so happy you guys finally got to watch it🎈hope we get to the 2nd one soon as it’s my favourite! Keep up the great reactions you guys rock🤙🏼🔥
Love this series but so many questions. If you kill someone and steal their car on purge nite, do you have to register it the next day at the DMV ? Do you have to prove it was stolen on purge nite ? Do you need t get the owner to sign it over to you before you kill him ?? LOL
I enjoyed the tv series. They went into a bit more on the lore There were neighborhoods that banded together to protect each other. There were volunteer paramedics who wandered the city to help the wounded There was a team of women who wandered the city saving women because Domestic Violence increased on Purge night Travel agencies encouraged foreign travelers to come to the US on Purge Night to Purge Those who could afford to travel would leave the country & the week before Purge Night was the busiest time to travel Prisoners condemned to death became Prey in a hunt for those who could afford to participate in the hunt There was a cult that prepped its followers to volunteer themselves up as victims during the Purge The next day the government picked up the dead bodies & cremated them & sent a small urn with a letter to the dead’s family praising the dead person’s patriotism & thanking the family for their sacrifice
Imagine the trust you would have to have for your close family. Strangers and coworkers are one thing, but looking at your kids or spouse sideways because your relationship is strained is another. I think if people are painfully honest, you’d have to consider which family members you can truly trust. Edit: I never thought about this when I watched it before, but it’s ridiculous that every member of the family wasn’t armed. Why? Why would only the father have a firearm? With a group of people actively breaking in and you have the weapons, why not arm everyone….except the kid because he’s a dummy, but my kids are very able to defend themselves with a weapon. I couldn’t imagine this happening and not arming them.
I believe the second Purge shows that exactly, in one scene with a family. This is especially true after I’m seeing an increase in famlicide here in the states.
Yeah, the dummy kid would be eiither shackled in the safe room or visiting grandmas for all future purges if he was my dummy kid. In fact he might be up for adoption.
So, I was invited asmaid of honor to celebrate in California with a Fast Pass. This pass lets you get to the front of the line (or separate 1st line) for ride at most parks. We went to Universal aqt aroun6. So apparently they have fright nights where the normal park shuts down. We were all waited with a crowd behind a gate watching other leaves. They then removed the gates. As some ran, they stopped and noticed people in masks on wood boxes. The center person was on the tallest box and spoke through a mircrophone. It was the Purge speech. After he was done the other reved chainsaws and came after us as we ran passed to get into the park. BEST EXPERIENCE EVER
The wildest thing to think about is people you meet throughout the year at work, in the gas station, friends of friends, literally anyone could take something you did or said as a slight. and wait for this one night to get some type of revenge or 'justice' i could definitely see it dropping the crime rate but the cleanup would be insane great reaction. yall literally feel the way i did the first time i watched please continue with the great content
The most irritating thing about it is that they wait until the last minute to lock up and get ready for a purge they have all year to prepare for. Why wouldn't you get into lockdown immediately that day and be prepped for things to go bad. So SO stupid to be waiting until the last minute to get safe on a day the world plans to go crazy. AND all that money for that house and no panic room? Hell they could've had the whole basement turned into a hidden bunker!! The whole movie just irritates the hell out of me LOL. It was fun watching your reaction though. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s because they live in a wealthy neighborhood, where purging doesn’t happen that often. That said, they didn’t think they needed a panic room, since Purgers don’t normally go attacking the wealthy families that hide in their homes. So they do their purging in the cities, and lower class neighborhoods.
It annoys me too. Because you are telling me the parents never cared enough to talk about the seriousness and the real danger of this night with their children. Since that little f**ker suddenly decided to open the door to some stranger without even thinking straight. And for some reason, a child knows the password to the security system. Talk about irresponsible parents. And the father doesn't even look upset with his child for opening the door. Why did the father not untie the stranger for a better chance of surviving? They were already going to kill the whole family. Both would be forced to team up with each other if they didn't want to die. He could have saved the dad, considering how many the dad killed by himself. I understand it's a movie, but stuff like this makes me angry.
The thing that scares me most about this movie is that since 2016, and especially events that happened at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021, I truly feel that there is a sizable percentage of people in the US that would LOVE to see the Purge happen in real life in this country. Those are always the horror movies that bother me most, the ones that feel like they really could happen. Messed up beyond belief.
This movie and all the sequels were amazing , but, (unpopular opinion) that line at about 30 minutes “was his life really worth yours and your families hit it . YES .. you should be a decent and good person in humanity but he literally risked his own life AND kids and wife for somebody they didn’t even know from a can of paint. Some point in time you have to draw the line , and honestly I didn’t agree with him risking it and he payed the ultimate price for it. The sanity of his children and wife, and his own life for a person he doesn’t even know the age of for goodness sake. That’s completely on them . Life or death situation for family and they chose a stranger. 🤷🏽♀️
Enjoyed the reaction as I always do. You guys are a lot of fun to watch. I definitely recommend watching the sequels to this one. IMHO, it just gets better as the movies go along.
The idea that this is possible if the human population runs rampant and the governments of the world can’t compensate the food, money, housing… It’s terrifying to say the least
Glad you guys are finally checking out this series! The second one is pretty good especially with the introduction of Frank Grillo‘s character but the third one takes the cake for me by far. Just the idea of him being a bodyguard to a potential presidential candidate that can maybe actually end the purge and the corrupt government assholes doing their usual bullshit to prevent it, and him having to protect her all night was pretty awesome. Sorry for the spoils but I’m pretty sure you guys are already on this one as the second movie reaction is already up😂😭
Why would you EVER think it’s okay to put a spoiler on an account that does reactions for things they haven’t even seen especially when you’re not for sure they’ve reviewed it yet ? Tf ???
I really love The Purge movies, the 2nd one was deffo a lot better than first one coz this was more a home invasion type but the other really dive deeper into the purge. There also a 2 season purge show which I really enjoyed!
This is way late but in case anyone is curious class 4 weapons covers "destructive devices" which basically means explosives, launchers and flamethrowers.
When I was in a high school humanities class back in the '60s, after completing our assignnment to read the novel 1984 we were asked to write a paper describing our idea of the idyllic society. I wrote that if they made all crime legal for just one day each year they could basically clear out all the prisons and make the streets completely safe for the rest of the year. Little did I know that my humanities teacher was really an aspiring screenwriter moonlighting as a teacher so as to steal my ideas and pitch them to her insider connections in Hollywood. The second half of that story probably (of course) didn't happen, but that is the way i imagine it.
My feelings about letting someone in; you have 364 days to prepare for this particular event, if you are stuck outside, you deserve whatever happens to you. I'm not letting you inside.
I wouldn’t let the man in either, but come on. He was clearly homeless, what was he supposed to do? You need an address to open a bank account or get a job. Even if he was able to work someone and earn money under the table, theft and robbery is legal every year. How do you overcome a situation like that? The people outside don’t deserve death at all, that’s the exact mentality that the creepy purgers had in the first place
You could buy a shovel, go out to a secluded area. Dig a deep hole, climb in and cover the hole with branches and leaves and pray. Who would think to look for holes in the woods. People are walking the streets, looking in alley dumpsters, parked cars, abandoned office buildings, high rise apartments, vacant apartment complexes for stragglers. 364 days to prepare for surviving a 12 hour period. No reason to be caught and killed. Homeless people are resourceful, it takes street smarts to live day by day on the streets without a steady income.
If I was homeless, first I would build relationships with other homeless people. With the money I was able to make panhandling, I would buy some guns and encourage others to do the same. Find an abandoned structure with few doors and windows and have everyone point their guns at every possible entryway and shoot on sight. Strength in numbers.

Honestly I’m glad y’all are watching these, in my opinion you can watch all 5 but the first three are the only ones really worth watching. The second one is the best
do you know where the idea for this movie came from? The director & his wife were riding down the highway one day & someone cut them off. The wife said to the husband, Hun wouldn't be nice to get a freebee, (meaning to get someone back for someone & not suffer any consequences) The husband said, wow hun that's pretty dark, and that's how he came up with the idea for the movie!
the entire franchise has to be one of my favorite guilty pleasures :)
hearing Steven talk about them not installing a panic room makes me want you to react to Panic Room from 2002. great movie with a young Kristen Stewart and Jodie Foster. highly recommend! ❤
There's a Purge TV Series. It's good. I love Season 1.
@@GlennShook yeah it got canceled after two seasons.
Season 2 was ok
@Gracie Ortega Yeah, Season 1 is way better. I watched Season 2 first, and then I watched Season 1.
This one, The Purge:Anarchy, and The First Purge are my favorites and to me the best ones.
I love the Purge Franchise. I hope you guys continue to react to the rest of the movies and maybe the Purge TV series also!
Since this movie came out, the alarm has turned to be my official ringtone 🤪
I love that y’all call Lena “Cersei” cuz it’s true after GoT it’s hard not to associate her with that role. she absolutely killed it in The Purge and GoT.
Have you seen her in the 2012 film _Dredd?_ She was fab in that too!
The "boyfriend" should have brought up that their age difference didn't matter that night, because everything is legal for 12 hours. 😂
When watching Game Of Thrones, I knew Cersei looked so damn familiar!!! She played the mom in the Purge movie! I don’t know if you guys noticed, I just started the video but that was so cool to notice. She’s a great actress.
11:01 “I GRRR your daughter so much” is hilarious 😂
I just wanna take this moment to say yall are freaking awesome and hands down my favorite reactors to watch😁
I can't wait to see you guys watch the other ones... they just get crazier.
amazing reaction guys! I hope they react to the whole purge saga. Hopefully these movies don't make them fall into moral judgments, patriotism and stuff. This movie takes you to those levels and makes you question your morality.
Yall have to react to the rest of the purge movies now lol
If I was the wife I would have sat there until the sirens rang out and then said congratulations you survived the purge. And then I’d pop pop them then. I’m good with jail 🤷🏾♂️
The next one is better and you get to really see the outside.
The Level 4 weapon law bugs the crap out of me because, if ALL crime is legal and emergency services are unavailable, what are they gonna do about it?
Government can find you regardless
Also people above a certain level are exempt as targets. Like government leaders.
The family meeting with me & my kids, the next day, would be one HELL of a family discussion. They both put the family at risk. 🤦🏾♀️🙄
Absolutely. I mean, if it wasn't for the son, Ethan Hawke would still be alive.
i hope you'll react to the second one, it's my favorite out of the franchise
We probably will
Best one
@@NikkiStevenReact i agree my favorite too
@@NikkiStevenReact yay! love to hear that 💞
@@NikkiStevenReact PLEASE STILL REACT TO DEJA VU GREAT DENZEL WASHINGTON MOVIE❤🎉
I would literally leave the city and go camp in the middle of nowhere for 12hrs lol come back when it’s over.
Second part is the best, purge is all over the city, not just in one house, nice reaction
The Hunger Games meets Home Alone!
Lool
LMFAO!
😂😂
Something i really like about these movies is that the homeless man that came in clutch at the end is in the second & third movie oh yeah & if the Purge were real i'd set up Vietnam war style traps all around my house
Do your homework on the Illinois new laws that started first of the year some are calling it "purge law" What you can do and get away with is pretty crazy, and all the people they are letting out of jail, also the offenses you can do without going to jail is crazy!
If I had lots of money, I'm flying my ass to an island for a day. At the very least, I'm buying a boat and sailing off the coast for a day.
Love this channel!! Was so happy you guys finally got to watch it🎈hope we get to the 2nd one soon as it’s my favourite! Keep up the great reactions you guys rock🤙🏼🔥
You should watch the second one for sure. I think it's the best one in the series.
This time of year would be traveling to a foreign country for me.... great movies... and as always brilliant reaction.
They went into a bit more on the lore
There were neighborhoods that banded together to protect each other. There were volunteer paramedics who wandered the city to help the wounded
There was a team of women who wandered the city saving women because Domestic Violence increased on Purge night
Travel agencies encouraged foreign travelers to come to the US on Purge Night to Purge
Those who could afford to travel would leave the country & the week before Purge Night was the busiest time to travel
Prisoners condemned to death became Prey in a hunt for those who could afford to participate in the hunt
There was a cult that prepped its followers to volunteer themselves up as victims during the Purge
The next day the government picked up the dead bodies & cremated them & sent a small urn with a letter to the dead’s family praising the dead person’s patriotism & thanking the family for their sacrifice
Yall should watch all of them love the reactions and this series of movies/shows is wild and interesting
I really hope y’all watch the rest of the series. Love to see what you think of more of the Purge lore and world building they do.
This series is my guilty pleasure. My favorite is the forever purge, if you guys continue to watch, it dives DEEP into how realistic it can get.
This is the most enjoyable reaction to the Purge I’ve seen. Great job y’all.
BEST EXPERIENCE EVER
man, this reaction that y'all did...it looked like this one got y'all a bit tensed up? lol, glad y'all did this reaction, keep'm comin!
The wildest thing to think about is people you meet throughout the year at work, in the gas station, friends of friends, literally anyone could take something you did or said as a slight. and wait for this one night to get some type of revenge or 'justice' i could definitely see it dropping the crime rate but the cleanup would be insane great reaction. yall literally feel the way i did the first time i watched please continue with the great content
cleanup that creates tons of jobs? sounds like a "positive"
@@ygkemosabi8280 Lol heyy You live by the sword, you die by the sword. True definitely a lot of work after a purge 💯
Absolutely love these movies. The sound is actually set as my phone ringtone. Hopefully you watch all of them!
The idea that this is possible if the human population runs rampant and the governments of the world can’t compensate the food, money, housing…
It’s terrifying to say the least
In more afraid of governments running rampant.
@@ckobo84 They kind of already are
Y’all have to watch the rest of them !!!!!
32:06 them saying it at the same time!👏🏾loved it!
Can't wait till you watch all the other movies lol glad you guys watched this.
I feel like Rhys Wakefield (the polite evil guy at the front door) would've made a great Joker. I mean look at that devious smile
That's literally what I said to myself the other day he is a really underrated actor
This movie is actually a lot better than I remembered it being. Not a masterpiece by any means, but a perfectly good horror thriller.
You MUST watch the TV Series! They explain the clean up crew, cults and dive deeper into the things actually happening on purge night.
Can't wait for them to react to the other Purge movies
Rhys wakefield killed it in this movie. He was the guy at the front door.
i love all the movies and the tv series they had 2 seasons of 1 in 2018 and the other 2019 :)
I love the purge movies but they’re so terrifying because it could happen in real life. It really makes me anxious. Also seeing Cersei doesn’t help 😂
it sounds so exciting!
THE 2nd MOVIE IS THE BEST ONE!! YALL HAVE TO WATCH IT!!!
Gotta watch all of them so yu can see everything unfold and remember the characters!!
