The People's Liberation Army of China is ramping up preparations for a full scale invasion of Taiwan. However, the danger could come from an enemy attack along the less defended East Coast of Taiwan, which would cut foreign supplies from reaching the island. China could be using its entire arsenal, a combination of saturation missile strikes to defeat enemy air defense, an aggressive air campaign to target decision making centres, as well as amphibious operations using PLA Marine Brigades. The Chinese Navy will also play a crucial role in sealing off the island, and securing the safe passage of amphibious landing crafts.

I'm always baffled when professional military analysts and experts don't take civilian vessels into account... the French army used city taxis to transport their troops to the Marne in 1914 and the Israelis used school buses and ice cream trucks(!!!) as troop transports to reach the Suez Canal in 1956

If there is a battle, it will not be a hand to hand combat, but more recover of the island to China PRC.
The 23 millions plus are not an issue to prevent U.S.A. having a foot hole in China again.

I am a Taiwanese. The issue between Taiwan and China is political, not military. China does not need to invade Taiwan to complete the work of unifying Taiwan. Putin is a smart man, and he immediately saw that China could solve the Taiwan issue without using force. Besides, Deng Xiaoping also said, "Chinese people don't fight Chinese people". If you really need to use force, there is a limit. The east coast of Taiwan is rocky and the west coast is sandy, so the ports that accept natural gas, oil and coal are all on the west coast. And the stupid Taiwanese government will decommission all nuclear power plants in 2025 under the pretext of environmental protection. So China only needs to block the southern and northern ends of the Taiwan Strait with smart mines, and Taiwan will go back to the stone age within 1 month due to lack of electricity, because the stock of natural gas is less than 2 weeks, and natural gas power generation accounts for 50% of Taiwan's total power generation. While the People's Liberation Army has sea and air superiority, Taiwan simply does not have the ability to clear mines. Therefore, without energy, the 23 million people in Taiwan cannot live. More and more people advocate negotiation. As long as they sit at the negotiating table, the possibility of armed conflict will be reduced. The other method is simpler, which is also Putin's method, and he made it very clear at the press conference in 2021. Simply put, by 2028, Taiwan's total GDP will be less than 4% of China's. China can "buy" Taiwan with money. As for how to "buy" Taiwan, it is already in progress!
"Surrender the enemy without fighting"---Sun Tzu's Art of War.
In addition, if war really breaks out, the United States will immediately evacuate the U.S. troops from the Okinawa base to Hawaii. The Japanese constitution also stipulates that Japan can only defend itself and cannot send troops to attack other countries, so Taiwan can only rely on itself.

Not really that easy. How many of these ships can take troops directly to shore and get back to sea. Or are they going to sit out 100 years from shore and ferry troops. While under artillery fires and having zero armor. If they beach only a small number can land before the beach is blocked up with ships.
Any of these ships crew have experience sailing in formation on open waters? How will you communicate with these ships and coordinate the attack? Plans change so you can’t depends of coordination before you set out. How can you identify these ships as friendly? What happens if there is a storm? How crews react under fire? With ships of different sizes you will have to split up units so cohesion. Will any of these ships need to be refueled.
Civilian ships are good for a simple operation like pick up troops and bring them home. But coordinating a invasion and landing at a location at a specific time in a country you don’t know with 1000s of ships all around you isn’t an easy task.

What was described in this video could have been the PLA's war plan *IF* forced reunification took place in the 2010s. However, in the 2020s & beyond, such a war plan would be largely obsolete, as it doesn't take into account 2 key PLA capabilities - long range MLRS & drones. The opening "missile" campaign to execute the SEAD mission would probably not use "thousands" of missiles as described in the video, but rather a combination of a few hundred missiles, coupled with long-range MLRS (e.g. PCL-191 - which has enough range to reach the majority of TW from the Mainland), as well as thousands (or even tens of thousands) of Kamikaze UCAVs (something roughly comparable to the Russian Geran UCAVs & Lancet-like loitering munitions). Those assets are far cheaper than SRBM/MRBMs & will wear down TW's air defenses much quicker. To the extent that missiles are used in the opening phases, they're likely to be used only on high-value targets such as C4ISR nodes & fixed infrastructure (e.g. the US PAVE PAWS radar on TW, airstrips, ammo depots, command posts, etc.).
Moreover, I doubt the PLAN even needs any active ships (let alone large capital ships) to impose a blockade of TW's ports, even its coastal defense anti-ship missile batteries have more than enough range to put all of TW's west coast ports under a missile blockade. To the extent that it needs any ships to blockade the east coast of TW, a large number of small fast attack missile boats (e.g. Type 022), combined with SSKs & UUVs will have more than enough range & firepower to do the job. The large capital ships - be it the DDGs, FFGs, CVs, or SSNs - will primarily be a support force for the aforementioned smaller, cheaper assets, & also have the responsibility of holding off any foreign intervention force, if such intervention should occur.
With regards to the PLAAF, I don't think their cross-strait patrols should be any indicator of how they'll fight an actual war. circling TW in patrol flights is a POLITICAL move designed to undermine any notion of TW "sovereignty". In an actual war, they don't need to fly anywhere close to TW, they'll gain air supremacy through crippling the RoCAF on the ground, & engage in BVR combat vs RoCAF remnants with the support of AWACS & loyal wingman UCAVs.
The initial amphibious landing will likely make heavy use of drones as well - UGVs would make up much of the 1st wave of landings for drawing fire, demining, & putting down suppressive fire to avoid casualties. UCAVs such as the CH-series, armed with ATGMs & glide bombs, will be used to provide CAS vs RoCA armored vehicles.
Finally, if forced reunification doesn't happen until the 2030s, then we'll have to take into account yet another technology - PLA/PLAN railgun artillery. But for now, it's still way too early to speculate about that, since the PLA is still in the early stages of miniaturization & power management for such a technology.
Lastly, I doubt any aspect of the operation would be a "surprise" for either side. There will be heavy mobilization done on both sides prior to the conflict, & both sides will have mapped out every single inch of the opponent's assets. So the side with the superior firepower & more survivable C4ISR will be the victor.
Bottom line - in the 2010s if the Mainland was forced to invade, it would have had to use much of the big ticket capital assets described in this video. However, we're well past that stage now, & the PLA has the ability to use much cheaper & more expendable unmanned assets to execute all phases of a forced reunification op. It will also reserve its big ticket capital assets for the real fight against the foreign intervention forces. To that end, the longer the Mainland waits for reunification, the cheaper it becomes for them; the military balance of power is getting increasingly & inevitably lopsided in favor of the Mainland. Perhaps this is why the US is trying to provoke the Mainland into a war. It knows that time is on the PRC's side.

Excellent analysis. But I still think Mainland will possibly start the invasion with a surprise attack on the Taiwanese president in order to create chaos. They may also attempt a surprise airborne landing at a politically significant spot such as Taipei. Such landing will be very risky but worth trying. If somewhat successful, the landing may break the Taiwanese will for resistance and bring the war into a quick end.

Time is not on the PRCs side. Look at Russia. Russia had plenty of advanced military technology but Ukraine ended up being trench warfare like WW1. China will be the same if they want taiwan. The Taiwanese will just not let them on the island even after being bombarded by missiles. This will make it hard for an invasion to happen with new technology. Also the Chinese demography is collapsing much quicker than the US. The Chinese stopped having replacement birth rates in 1980. In the US it was 2010 (Great Recession). This means the Chinese have had 40 years of single child families (every generation is half the population size of the older ones) and the US has a current large pool of young potential recruits until the mid 2030s when Gen Z ages out and Gen alpha becomes adults. China already has a shrinking pool of young people to recruit

Like the Russians, after huge losses in World War II, it is "easy" to lose 10-20 thousand soldiers, so for China to lose even 100 thousand will be a small victim in a percentage of their population. At the same time, Europe or the USA are not ready to lose even 1000.

Very interesting to see this analysis as a Taiwanese, we have analyzed it like this many times every year on various TV shows with military experts and veterans, I'd say you also need to take into the account that PLA has a serious corruption problem, where their military would privately sell their weapons to black market make a fortune, the numbers on their military weapons you see from China may not be the actual number they have.
I think these information are not widely spread and have access in English world, so people outside of Taiwan do not have such information(perhaps US intel has it, but they don't release it), most of them reply on media such as CNN or BBC, which they usually just do general surface level coverage, and people get more scared than Taiwanese because they don't have the information, nor they focus on Taiwan military all day long before, they only started studying Taiwan after Ukraine got invaded, and about 6 months later, the world starts to focus on Taiwan, and that's when many of you started to study Taiwan, but we have been analyzing and tracking for more than 70 years, we have spy inside PLA too, one of them died in 1996, and we claimed we no long have any spy in PLA, but do we really? ;)
We do run through our own test and analysis, we know we're not prepare enough and it never going to be enough when you have to face a country with this size, but so is China, they're not ready for the war, if they do, the war's already happened.
I'd say take a grind of salt on the news you received from foreign news such as CNN and BBC, way back in 2014 and 2016 we already knew how our advanced chip industry works would protect us from China, but it wasn't until 2022, US and the entire world starts to find out we have a such valuable industry, so nervous that an American even wrote a book call Chip War with many Taiwanese experts helping to tell the history and given analysis, yet many people still don't understand how the industry works, thinking it's very easy to move the entire supply chain and industry out of Taiwan, in case the war breaks out in Taiwan.
The point here I'm trying to make is, we have a lot more accurate intelligence than English speaking world, most people do not understand Taiwan and China very much, a lot of time when we look at China, then compare to international English news, we always find it strange why they don't point out all these weaknesses of China and PLA?
Our intelligence also alters us about Covid19 way back in 2020 December, and we enter national medical and travel emergency in January 2021, where most of the world didn't realize the virus news until March 2021 and start lock down, because of it, we were able to last more than one year when Covid19 took over the world, and our exports were benefiting from it a lot because almost every country has their problem with Covid19, making Taiwan one of few countries that avoid the economic crash during Covid19
I know most of you are nervous, but we're not dumb or unaware of the situation, we have been monitoring and preparing for decades, but China still decided to do it, we will have to fight, and most of us have the will. In fact, we think our government and military is too slow, so we founded a civil defense organization called "Kuma Academy"(黑熊學院), it doesn't not have any military grade weapon, but we're starting by training people to use drone, learn basic medical skills, survival skills, knowledge on anti cognitive warfare from internet such as UA-cam, once war breaks out, we expect our military will take it in and utilize these trained civilians to help our formal military and keep the society running.
All you need to do, is just support us like you would to Ukraine, it doesn't have to be military, money or civilian supplies, just a supportive comment to Taiwan on the UA-cam videos like this all over the internet, and that, goes for a long way my friend :)))

It will inevitably. Infantry will need heavy guns. Penghu island is: closer to mainland china, logistically easier to supply - in range, with regard to heavy guns and mlrs. If there was to be a ground landing on Taiwan, they would need that island. Until of course they weed out the air defense of Taiwan and dismantle them. More likely however, complete and effective blockade of Taiwan, wait for Taiwan's allies to intervene, use the mainland advantage.

Most probably the PLA will send the Navy first but if many ships are lose they will pull back and hope the PLA Airforce and missiles can do damage but if that fails there is a big problem, PLA Navy cannot approach so really that risks failure before any landing craft are even sent which will make China look very weak and risk Communist Party falling so that is a lot of risk. In fact, the US subs could impose an embargo if the US suspects an invasion.

I think the biggest dilemma China would face in resolving the Taiwan issue by force would be the choice of strike targets at the start of the war. If the PLA adheres to the principles of a civil war and restricts the target of strikes to the island of Taiwan, they will have to pay extra costs to defend themselves against possible attacks from the direction of Japan. If they had attacked US and Japanese bases in the Ryukyu Islands from the beginning, the war would have gone far beyond a "restart of the Chinese Civil War" and turned into a world war.

Given what we've seen with drones and what we know of China's manufacturing prowess.... What if China just launched 500 drones per hour at US naval vessels until they either left because they were out of ammo or were destroyed? What if they then launched 1000 drones per hour at Taiwan until they destroyed air defense?
Not sure China has to do ww2 style beach landing in this scenario. If I have ammo and you don't, I dont have to storm your fortress. I can just set outside and take pot shots at any target poking it heads up until you give up.

correction those are not US bases in the Philippines.. those are Philippine bases.. the US are only granted access under EDCA (Enhance Defense Cooperation Agreement) and given permission to build storage facilities for their equipment and weapons. The VFA (Visiting Forces agreement) on the other hand grants them free entry for military operations.
the point is those base will be under Filipino control and the US will just have access.

Taiwan has no sovereignty, it is not even a State after the United Nations its China. Literally no one recognize Taiwan as being a state. This includes the USA.
If China does this they'll go full it with all they have as not counter operation is to expect for many weeks. And of course they'd pick a weekend to attack.
With having a similar weapon arsenal like Russia, this included hyper sonic missiles and Carrier Killer like the Dongfeng missiles any US expedition force will be in very grave danger.
So there is a good chance this will go very early nuclear.
IMO the US is not able to defend Taiwan. And if they try it will be far more painful as Ukraine for them.

Chine, I believe, would take over Taiwan with ease if, considering the taiwanese navy, US and Japan/South Korea don't intervene. And considering the state of the US economy and the sky high debt, I don't think it's likely that US will interfere (Or at least avoid it for as long as possible). China is often underestimated by western media, just like Russia.

The difference between Ukraine and Taiwan is that Ukrainian GDP is around 4k and TW is 33k. Much more expensive to finance a war in TW. Then China could destroy a trillion dollars worth of infrastructure in a few days. In Ukraine there were nothing valuable to destroy so the country nothing to prevent the war. Let alone Ukrainian fight to get a ticket to the EU subsidies. On the other hand Taïwanese would fight to keep acces to the Western markets at the cost of the Chinese market: not an obvious choice

In it it does mention that the status quo in Taiwan is part of their defense strategy. Can't remember the details but Japan will definitely react if a direct military invasion of Taiwan happens.

But Taiwan is supposed to be a part of China anyway. The Nixon government created the "One China" policy which simply states that there is only one government of Taiwan and it resides in Beijing. Unlike Ukraine, Taiwanese identify as ethnic Chinese, which is in fact what they are. Ukraine has ethnic Russians, ethnic Ukrainians, ethnic Poles and ethnic Hungarians. Furthermore, most of Taiwanese trade is with mainland China. Seems to me to make more sense for China to simply cut trade with Taiwan to precipitate an economic collapse rather than invading, if they, for some reason chose conflict. In any case, it seems likely that the current government will be voted out in next years election in favor of the party that is more inclined to reach a peaceful settlement on some kind of unification. But invading Taiwan is the least likely outcome imho.

There is no such thing as "ethnic Ukrainians". Encyclopedia Britannica has no reference to Ukraine until past 1910. There is no Ukrainian coin, no Ukrainian warlord or king. Even Blue-Yellow flag is South Austro-Hungarian flag (Niederösterreich), given to Galicia in 1848 after they helped slaughter the rebelling Hungarians. The fake itself has started in Poland around 1800 by converting Russians (Ruthenian is latin for Russian) into "Ukrainians", then continued under AustroHungary (Teresin and Thalerhof concentration camps, where over 5k Russians were executed), finally in 1910 when Russian Empire was broken by Great Britain, Bolsheviks promised those "re-formated" Galicians their own Republic - so "Ukrainian Republic" was created, but in consisted of Russian land over 90% people were Russian-speaking. They lost jobs if they refused to learn "Ukrainian" language, which was designed in Poland and AustroHungary (Kulish and then Zhelekhovsky systems). "Ukraine" is absolutely artificial culture, created on top of South-Russians (MaloRossy) and consists only of hate against own folk.

As a Taiwanese, I think peaceful reunification is not on any candidate’s political list. There are too many people in Taiwan who are hostile to China. In addition, under Taiwan’s democratic system, I think that even if a pro-China party is in power, Nor can he decide on reunification alone.
Taiwan once ushered in a very pro-China president around 2008 AD, the opposition party criticized him for selling Taiwan, and then the 8 years in power ended, my ID card still says the Republic of China
