lance is going on 91 years old this year . growing up in Louisville sat at noon channel 3 wrestling
I noticed Jim watched his language while interviewing Mr. Russell.
A lot of people respected Lance. Heyman liked him and knew if you insulted him you could get over as a heel and Tommy Dreamer wanted his autograph.
Of course.....Corny is quick to snap the fuck off and curse, But not around his dignitaries like Mr Russell ❤❤ RIP Mr Russell
Thanks Jim for that interview. I remember as a young kid in the 80s watching Lance ever Saturday morning. Such a classy man! A legend for the ages for professional wrestling!
Lance Russell = Legend
As a kid, Memphis/Nashville was the only rasslin' I knew existed. Lance probably did more to get most wrestlers over than they did themselves. His reactions to heel tactics were classic!
Bob Caudle, Gordon Solie, Lance Russell, and Jim Ross. NUFF SAID.
Agreed.
MaestroDawg65 we had Frank Bonnema and Don Coss here in Portland that were hugely popular for this territory. I agree with your Mount Rushmore though.
Mauro Ranallo as well
LOL
I'd say mid south and wcw jim ross, I didn't like his WWF/WWE work much.
The Lancer still sounds great.
Lance could call a match like no one else. You would swear you were watching an absolutely legit sport.
It WAS a LEGIT sport
As legit as any other. Certainly as legit as boxing.
@@ashwilliams6080 ...or the NFL...
@@stinkypinkeee5085 LOL
Well said.
The finest wrestling announcer of all time. Jim Ross is a close second, and Gordon Solie is a distant third. (IMHO)
became a fan through youtube, the best announcer I ve ever listened to
I think Solie's better but only just. He's definitely the one who's usually forgotten when talking about great wrestling announcers though.
R.I.P. Lance Russel
Didn't Jerry Lawler want Lance to induct him into the HOF but Vince nixed it because "nobody would know who Lance is"?
Kenny Francisco that sounds very possible
Yeah. It's a real shame Vince has a say over who inducts them. It should be THEIR night
Highly doubtful, considering who they have inducted.
@@Rjensen2 no, it's true. Vince (and possibly even Bucky Beaver) claimed nobody would know who Lance Russell was.
THE GOD FATHER OF PRO WRESTLING LANCE RUSSELL!
RIP Mr. Russell
RIP,Lance.
1948!..Oh hell yeah!
Every time he talks I that grey suit and that skinny mic pop right in to my head
Would have liked to hear his thoughts/memory on the Dream Machine incident after the alley oop video.
How about Jimmy Hart covering him in flour and Tojo grabbing his lapel.
Listening to this in 2022. Hearing Lance tell stories reminds me of my granddad.
Lance Russell the greatest of times he made you fill at home with wrestling
Woookay is what Lance Russell would say when Memphis wrestling would open unparalleled master of masters
Yes’m I do reckon.
Russell is such a underrated commentator. I wish Vince hired him cause then he would be in the same league as JR.
Did anyone know when Lance talked about Lawler wanting Russell to induct him to the HOF?
He is NOT underrated AT ALL
You can tell that Cornette had only love and respect for uncle Lance. Like me Cornette grew up in Louisville where Lance was a star.
My second favorite announcer, after Jim Ross.
JR is overrated as fuck
Born and raised in Memphis. Only time away was while in the military for four years. Anyway I'm 64 and of course I grew up watching Saturday morning wrestling. We lived near the corner of walnut Grove and highland. Channel 13 WHBQ was on highland. We use to ride our bikes there every Saturday morning. Anytime they had no shows they let us in and we got to watch the show and get on T.V. it was great fun. Like the song guess it was a Memphis Thing. And of course my Mom Aunt and Grandmother really believed wrestling was real. If you wanted to make them mad as hell just tell them it was fake. MY dad who is a retired Memphis Fireman. Use to tell them it was fake and you wouldn't believe how mad it'd make them. My Mom Aunt and yes Grandmother as long as her health would let her her would be at the Mid South Collsuim every Monday night. They love them some Lance Russell Dave Brown Jerry Lawler and all the good guys and sure hated the bad guys. But Lance Russell could have ran for Mayor or any office for that matter and won hands down. Oh one last story my grandparents own an barber shop and restaurant on Getwell Ave. Here in Memphis. Both in the same building and lived above it. This was late 40s early 50s. But Lance Russell was driving a beer truck and delivered beer to the restaurant.
they where literally kayfabing the commentary and commentator.
LONG LIVE LANCE RUSSELL the best on commentary and Gordon Solid not far behind and he was the best because he had a cool casual way of getting everything across like he was talking to you at home.
This interview how to be very special for Jim. Lance did his very first interview and all them years later jim is interviewing him first. Lance still had a pretty good voice after all this year
Lance Russell is the reason I thought wrestling was real. How could this genuinely good guy be bullshitting people, especially me a 7 year old kid? RIP... Now he can visit his Baxter suit that passed away back in 1985. (Some of you will get it)
It shined itself to death
Lance has become my all-time favorite...between the facials, amd the repartee between he and Dave Brown, is top shelf...I wish I could get the PW community to spend a week watching Memphis episodes...I think the calls of "Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are the GOAT" would quiet down a tinge....
Legend Lance RIP
