Rock n Roll and Midnight Express are among the greatest tag teams to exist.
80’s- Midnight Express, Rock and Roll Express
90’s- Hart Foundation, Harlem Heat
2000’s- Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz
I have enjoyed Ricky Morton's wrestling since the days of Jim Crockett. Thanks for posting this.
That "crippled boy" that Morton talks about at 36:10 who got caught on the show "to catch a predator" is named Dustin Mcphetridge he developed quite a cult following of people ridiculing him it is epic.
I was watching that episode of TCAP just now and I wanted to hear Cornette respond
That's the only reason I'm watching this video. I could give no fucks about wrestling. Stopped watching when I was 6.
LOL howcome not many more people are mentioning it? How did people know it was Ricky Morton the wrestler who the predator did dvds for? Was this known years ago? Or is the connection between Morton and Dustin known through this interview?
@@angelined9814 hell yeah, although Dustin never mentioned Ricky's name when interviewed by Chris Hansen or in his interrogation interview with the KBI. His interrogation video is pure comedy gold
Ricky, The Space Shuttle Program Is No More...lol
I have worked on a few shows with Ricky and even in his advanced age, no disrespect or slight intended, Ricky is still considered the best on any card he is booked for. Nice but doesn't bullshit. Helpful but not ego swelling. A true professional and it was an honor to work alongside him
Cody Reaper fuck you
Fuck you too, and have a most wonderful day my friend.
if you don't get it,the point is,this young man going by Cody Reaper, very likely may have worked a handful of wrestling cards,in which he might well meet &/or work with Ricky. And Ricky would be the best and most respected on the shows he is usually working at nowadays, even at sixty and sixty one years old, absolutely. So in that,Cody Reaper sounds very much lime he has met and worked with Ricky.or "punky" have a nice day. I apologize for obscenities
K dokey have a wonderful life. I made my post more for myself than to jump your shit. Have fun with wrestling and I hope its a good part of your life.
Thank you Randy, that's all i'm saying. I have worked 2 shows with Ricky and he was a class act. I don't understand the dislike here, but all is well.
Great interview! I live about 20 minutes from Beckley, the Raleigh County Armory they are talking about 53 minutes into this interview. I remember as a kid being at that show. Remember seeing Rock N Roll, Midnight Express and Cornette that night. The crowd was on fire. I've been to 2 WrestleMania's, several Pay Per Views, and this still stands out as one of the best shows I've ever been too. These guys are true pros and should be recognized by any true wrestling fans. If they want to make the HOF really legit, Cornette deserves to be right up there with the rest of the greatest managers and one of the best minds ever in the business!
God bless Ricky Morton, he sounds just like my grandpaw, and looks a lot like my grandmaw.
So true
Just wait , you'll be there one day.
@@christopherwilgus7475 I hope so.
First time I saw Ricky Morton perform was when R & R Express debuted for JCP by winning the NWA tag team titles on World Wide Wrestling here in Philly against the Russians on that hot Saturday in July, 1985 at 2pm on channel 17. An incredible match and equally an incredible performance by all involved!
I met Ricky Morton 2 times i watched him wrestle he was so smooth in the ring he still had it then
Crazy part is, for a smaller guy, Ricky was able to have an exciting match with virtually anyone and he was a master of both singles and tag team wrestling.
Did you watch them at Sam Houston Coliseum like I did?
Ricky Morton... Down to earth. Cool as hell. Hard working. Tag Team Champion. My childhood hero. I know he doesn't recall shaking my hand as he went inside the building in the Washington, N.C. high school- early 80's- Robert Gibson right beside him. (I think they rolled in in a Mazda Rx-7?) I thought I had just seen God himself that evening. Rock-n-Roll Express were such a part of my youth and I hope they understand just how much of an impression they made on me. Them boys had character, worked hard, paid dues and paved the way for sooooo many others. Badass. Pure badass. Thank you Rock-n-Roll Express!
Great interview , but mostly the stories by Morton and Cornette are priceless. More of two good friends that are remembering those good ole days.
Great American Bash 86 ...I was 10 and legit was hoping Ricky could beat Flair for the NWA title.
c'mon man pulling against the Nature Boy is not allowed.
Good stuff, Brian. I'm going to buy the WWE Network for one month just so I can watch the Hall of Fame ceremony with the Rock and Roll Express and Jimmy.
Great ! Two old friends having a conversation , recounting expensives from throughput their wrestling careers . What a laugh riot !
man I love listening to old school wrestling stories those days sound awesome I woulda loved being a fan back then I think I was born in the wrong time period
Wish I had never heard the word Kayfabe!!!!
"never Kayfabe a Kayfaber" - dick murdoch
Wish I knew what the f*** Kayfabe means!
Same...I'm 43 and still call them "Good guys" and "Bad guys" and am still looking for the Rock and Rolls to regain the belts from the Midnites.
@@tommymclaughlin3203, who would have thought, about 8 months later the Rock n Roll got the belts back.
Ricky Morton was one of my favorite tag team specialists of all time, was a great single wrestler also
Rock n Roll express my favorite tag team
This is gold.
I never understood why everyone compared demolition to road warriors but they never compared the rockers to the rock and roll express
2nd Gen Wrestler - Little Ricky you got a D on your report card, grab my steal chair and take it to the ring in the back yard and wait for me.
I didn’t watch a lot of pro wrestling, but I watched a bit in my youth. I would have burnt out very quickly if all I had to watch was the WWF. It was when TBS just beginning to be available in the North. It was the Southern style in general - and the Rock & Roll Express specifically - that kept me watching as long as I did.
Listening to him talk about the business, I know understand why. The South knew how to do pro wrestling.
Big fan of the Rock n Roll Express, and their feuds with the Midnight Express. Damn that was great wrestling and a great time.
They knew how to actually do wrestling moves.not just acrobatics.
It's like u aid jimmy old fashion wrestling that was the shit the absolute best wrestling they ever was and ever will be!!!!
Whatever happened to Master G in Mid-South?????
ken lucas was one heck of a wrestler!
I thought that was a former football player
I HATE WHAT PRO WRESTLING HAS BECOME...PRO WRESTLING IS DEAD
and saying it in a good way no disrespect intended my man
Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton... The Rock and Roll Express!!
The hot tag
Love these segments. Thanks for posting them here so the poor marks (like me) can stay in the loop.
Why is Pro-Wrestling losing subscribers, fans, and drifting out of the Public Eye? Simple: those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it.
Wrestling is exactly the Gladiator segment of the shows at the Circus Maximus. It's modernized, updated, but it's definitely the combination of people mover, thrill show, freak show, and kayfabe (which keeps the marks coming back), that was once called Bread and Games . . .
However . . . it has gone very wrong of late, and the reason is not one of the obvious ones . . .
Break and Games was a specific strategy employed by Rome to keep the plebes on your side, in case of riot, insurrection, or outright civil war. The big thing, however, was that the games were FREE. With the advent of Cable, we have been forced to pay for our bread and games . . .which is a perversion of a system that worked for a thousand years. Some A-hole said in a boardroom, "I know, let's make the plebes pay admission for Ad SPAMMING! *** the strategy! I need that money NOW! It's a perfect plan! Like vampires raising humans for food, we'll strip any money the plebes ever make before they can buy things they need to live!"
And that's why Wrestling lost revenue. A-holes queering the system that worked. Wrestling (and all broadcast/cable entertainment) is a vehicle for sponsors to advertise useless goods to folks who can't afford them. Now that the sponsors make the plebes PAY for that advertising, it becomes pointless as a means of keeping folks happy and in line.
Greed, my friends. It was all about greed at the top. And therein lies the seeds of revolution. What we really need is smarter rich folks . . . but, considering the recent past, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting.
My suggestion?
If you (Jim) or your conceptual descendants would start following the campaign trail with your shows, like a carnival, drumming up interest, giving away free demonstrations to generate fresh fans . . . not touring at your speed, but following a bigger dog and pony show to piggyback off the events that bring people outside . . . you would become an integral part of the big money equation again. Don't charge the fans, charge the advertisers to advertise and give the show to the fans for free (like Little League).
Still remember the night Ric Flair scrapped your face on the dressing room concrete floor. Just out of curiosity were you selling?
36:05 For those interested in who he is talking about: ua-cam.com/video/5HRWSi_NtQw/v-deo.html
I thought she was wantin to be shaved
Down there
Jimmy, Sir, you did your job soo well. I hated you from the 80s up until your podcast. You, Ricky, Volkofs, y'all are real people and thats such a joy to be revealed, I can finally let all that anger go Heavy Sigh🤠
I have been obsessed with Ricky Morton since I was 10 and I am now 46. Would love to see him wrestle again.
That's a damn shame
I could listen to Ricky and drink beer all damn day
Ricky Morton is a superb wrestler
I think at some point in his career Ricky could have done a convincing heal turn. I don't think Robert would do very well
HE HAS before
York Foundation?
Memphis, 1989. He grew a beard during that run. He turned against Lawler and caused him to lose the Unified World Title to Dutch Mantell. Morton and Mantell teamed up for a program against Lawler and Gibson.
The little kid who watched wrestling in the 80's is freaking out at Jim Cornette declaring that Ricky Morton was his friend for over 30 years.
I miss being young and stupid.
Before my grandpa died he was super senile, you couldn't mention Ricky Morton in his presents, it was ol Hoot n himself who won n defended those tag titles n that was n end of it, honest shoot, I miss my grandpa
I'm sorry I didn't know Robert had passed away ,I watched many of his matches when I was younger.
Am I the only person sitting here going I have no idea who the f*** killer Karl Kox is
I honestly never liked Ricky Morton. I always thought that he was just so full of himself and never let anyone else talk or have the spotlight. BUT after hearing this interview I think I might have gained a little bit of respect and admiration for the guy. He was absolutely great in this interview and actually made me challenge my original line of thought on him. I guess it's only when Robert "Hoot" Gibson is around that he gets all excited and worked up and never let him talk or anything. I'm glad to see that Morton isn't the prick I thought he was.
He's full of lies
Fucking commercial every 3 minutes
Cornette and Morton explaining how a wrestler can have a career that lasts forever when Morton can't even pay his fucking bills.
That was several years ago...
I think Ricky is doing okay these days.
He had financial problems over 10 years ago, and from what I know (as a complete stranger to him) Ricky might have been in a rough place mentally and emotionally at that time. It happens. No one is a saint. We all go through our ups and downs, and we all have our hardships-- no matter how big or small.
Everything I have heard about Ricky recently is positive. He's quit smoking, he has his own wrestling school that has helped a handful of solid upper independent scene wrestlers, and he's not living out in the streets, etc...
And so what if he and Robert still go out and perform? They know that they're past their prime, but if they can go out and teach younger wrestlers/help younger wrestlers, entertain the crowd, get a good paycheck out of it to help support their families, and enjoy what they do... let them. I'm not going to judge somebody who continues to follow their passions. That's what life is all about. We can only be so lucky to do what we love for as long as we can do it.
The things people said about Ricky Morton in shoot interviews several years ago are certainly not true today. Some of it never was.
Just for the record... a LOT of the stuff that the wrestlers say in so-called 'shoot' interviews is more bullshit than an in-ring work. I've had two prominent wrestlers tell me STRAIGHT UP that they lied on their shoots to make things sound more interesting.
It's a work..... ALL THE TIME..... Get it?
Yeah, sure. Morton is having the last laugh.
He'll have a Legends deal for the rest of his life and be able to make appearances as "WWE Hall of Famer" Ricky Morton.
So, basically... he can make a living signing his name and smiling for cameras. He's also generally loved and respected by most people in the business and the fans.
We should all be so lucky.
