Buddy was an innovator as a song writer and entertainer. Being ahead of his time has made sure Buddy has fared the cultural changes better than most. Ritchie is a cultural hero to the Latinos and music lovers in general. Buddy, Ritchie, Bopper-all gone too soon.

My wife and I were at the 2009 Winter Dance Party 50 Years Later show. 6 below that night with crystal clear skies. Tickets for that show were $85.00 and the Surf was packed. Many stars were there including Bobby Vee, Peter & Gordon, Graham Nash, Tommy Alsup as well as Ritchie's family and Marie Elena and Bopper Jr. It WAS an unforgettable night. There WAS magic the air.

This is a priceless piece of Rock & Roll history. He was fortunate enough to have been there, and incredibly after the concert actually drove past the fateful airport where the manager and airplane owner Jerry Dwyer, together with the pilot, Roger Peterson, would have been waiting for their passengers to arrive.
He gives an honest opinion of the suitability of the pilot, and I truly believe if the flight had been delayed until daylight later on, there would have been no accident! No question about it, Jerry Dwyer has to take a large part of the blame as, the pilot was clearly not fully competent, and the atrocious, blizzard like weather conditions, as well as the poor visibility (complete darkness) contributed greatly to this disaster. The proof of that is the plane only travelled for five miles, and with an efficient and experienced pilot, could have possibly managed an emergency landing at some point.

Mike Evans does not have a clue as to what he is talking about. I don't mean to tear the guy apart, but he said a lot of wrong things in that interview. Buddy Holly only played drums for when Dion and the Belmonts were on. One of the Belmonts, Carlos, played drums for the rest of the performers. Dion was not on first, Frankie Sardo was. Mike also stated in an interview he did with a guy from Toronto some years ago at the Surf, that they went to the Barrel Drive Inn and that the car hops came out to take their order and they were crying. He asked what was wrong and they told him that the three singers had just died in a plane crash. Well why would car hops come out on a cold winter night and wait on you in the snow and freezing temps? In this interview he says the went to the drive inn, no mention of the car hops. I guess he changed his sorry. I don't think the drive is open in the winter time? Mike never heard the news on the radio the next morning before he went to school. They never found the crash until 9:30 in the morning. Also the dance got over before midnight because the plane took off a little before 1am and they didn't just rush out the door and go to the airport. I am a Buddy Holly historian and I have heard stories like Mike's that are so untrue, I've heard them all. Sometimes the stories get blown way out of proportion over the years. I was standing next to all of them in Eau Claire, WI on Jan 26, 1959, one week before Clear Lake. You want the real stories, then you talk to me, I will set you straight on what the real stories are. Rave On.....Don Larson

I am a historian as well. And you are spot on correct on every point. That being said, he probably is just one of those that mixes details from different memories.he seems genuine, but his recollection is inaccurate.

Okay and the proof will be in the pudding once you put together a UA-cam channel and start recanting all this classified, top secret information you claim to be withholding. So until that time, I will be rating this comment with a thumbs down.

@@whatever_it_takes6691 I'm not going to sit and argue with you. But I am a Buddy Holly historian and I know what is right and what is wrong. This guy Mike said so many wrong things about that night. I have on a tape where he told the interviewer that they went to the Barrel Drive In and he said the car haps came out and they were crying and they told him that the plane had crashed. Car hops don't come out to wait on a car when it's below zero .So, it seems like he changes his stories to fit the situation. He says he got up in the morning and heard the news. Well they never knew that the plane crashed until around 9:30 or 10 o'clock. Buddy never played drums for all the acts. One of the Belmonts filled in also. Frankie Sardo was on first, not the Belmonts. This guy Mike is a real piece 0f work and it seems like you believe all that he said. I saw the Winter Dance Party a week before the crash and I can tell you a true story about that night also. What I say is the gospel word and you can come to my house and I will tell you the real story. So don't give me a thumbs down because you don't know the real story like I do.
