    Yes, yes he was...

    When I find myself wondering why the good seem to die young, I remember what a friend of mine once told me--God always picks the sweetest flowers. I think that's true with Buddy Holly; he was a class act all around.

      You’ve got that double negative thing going. I think what you mean is “Buddy will not never ever Not Fade Away.
      “Buddy will Not Fade Away. Ever.” Would work too.
      I lived in Lubbock, worked at the same radio station Waylon worked at. Buddy is still today (2021) seen in Lubbock. And trust me, nobody ever makes fun of anyone who sees Buddy. We just nod, and go on with our business.
      Someday there will be a book on the Real Life and Daily Death Struggles of Waylon Jennings. The effect of Buddys passing hit him much harder than he ever lets on in public. He almost didn’t make it. There are so many other side stories that need to be told. He, Buddy, had that kind of affect on anybody he came into contact with. He would appreciate your thought.

    The tragic end to Buddy Holly’s life and career (along with Ritchie Valens, JP “The Big Bopper” Richardson and the pilot Roger Peterson) is surely the saddest and most devastating in the history of Rock & Roll. It seems that a series of negative events contributed to that ill fated flight in the early morning hours of February 3rd, 1959. The selfish attitude and behaviour of Norman Petty, the ridiculous and poorly planned logistics of the Winter Dance Party, the incomprehensibly bad decisions made by the airport manager and owner of the plane, Jerry Dwyer, and his choice of the young pilot to fly the three musicians, considering that Roger Peterson was clearly not qualified nor certified to handle the flight, especially in the atrocious weather conditions. As I mentioned, it was a combination of many poor and inconsiderate decisions/planning.

    Hi there, fellow Canuck, nice to meet Buddy's #1 fan...that makes me #2
    Just finished watching "Rave On" , you really slammed Norman Petty!!! (He fully deserves it , of course!)
    I first heard Buddy when I was about 15, and he remains my all-time singer since (That'll be the Day was my 1rst BH song & remains my all-time favorite song... and likely will be til the day *I* die!) Shonen Knife is my favorite band, but, Buddy is my musical idol!
    Well, it's been fun reminiscing with you ;)

    The narrator says that Dion was famous in 1959 for "The Wanderer", when in fact the song was only released in late 1961. (Now he's mostly famous for wearing big, floppy hats!)

    • @pnkkitty1

      XKE Dion is an idiot. He has claimed in recent years that HE was supposed to be on that plane, saying that HE lost the coin toss. Either drugs have impaired his memory or he is lying. NOBODY has ever said Dion was supposed to have a seat on that plane.

    People blame manager Perry for Buddy's death, but the production company could be blamed just as easily. The way the concerts were scheduled, the bands had to make crazy zig-zag trips all over the area instead of going from one venue to another in a logical route. The difficulty of getting from one place to another is what wore the bands down and made them sick.

    • @kl.1993
      @kl.1993 2 роки тому

      I agree. Also, another biography on UA-cam stated that the young pilot had already worked 17 hours when he took them up. That documentary showed the pilot's work record, which included a couple of prior infractions/concerns.
      My point is that the charter flight company was also responsible for what happened. There were sufficient reasons for them to have known that the pilot was not an appropriate choice for that flight. It seems that they might have put profit and perhaps bragging rights, ahead of safety.
      I am wondering if the charter flight company was sued and if not, then why not.

  • @boomer1991
    @boomer1991 3 роки тому +1

    Well they got it wrong though. It wasn’t that the pilot didn’t have his certification to fly by instrumentation only, it was the fact that the carburetor’s iced up and when they did that the power started to drop rapidly. I’m sure the pilot panicked, but had he reached over and pulled a lever that re-routed exhaust flie over the carbs to de-ice them, they may have survived. But bottom line is that pilot was not qualified to fly under those conditions but it wasn’t even his fault. He was 21 and just doing what he was being told which was what all of us did at 21. The responsibility lies with who let him fly. I know all of this because my step dad was an expert in aircraft safety and trained commercial pilots on this. He was very familiar with this case.

    • @TwiggyArmstrong
      @TwiggyArmstrong 2 роки тому

      The pilot couldn’t see. It was a basically a blizzard at that time so he had to rely on whatever he had.

    • @kl.1993
      @kl.1993 2 роки тому

      Thank you for explaining. The aircraft owner most definitely was negligent and responsible more than anyone else, for those deaths.
      In another UA-cam documentary about Buddy Holly, they state that the pilot had already worked 17 hours that day. They also show his work record from the charter company. It included a number of glaring red flags, that should have made it obvious that he was a poor choice for that flight. There was no excuse for their decision to use that pilot.
      I hope that they were sued, but I have not seen any indication that this happened.

    • @Pappysan
      @Pappysan Рік тому

      I'm calling BS! The plane crashed only a few minutes after takeoff... carburetors aren't going to ice over in such a short time! They flew into a storm front and the pilot lost orientation, crashing into the ground at 170 MPH!
