Notice that Savlin was convicted not of a crime against the revolution or communism, but against the "motherland".

An amazing untold chapter of the Cold War. Sablin was a hero IMHO.

Imagine a communist state getting upset that some of their people acted as communists. The other Potemkin.

Are there any more documentries about this? I remember watching another one a few years here on UA-cam and was only able to find this one.

This was not what "inspired" the Tom Clancy book _Red October._ There's another UA-cam video with interviews of the authors of _Mutiny_ that doesn't give the whole story. The story is still being suppressed. The three-video version posted here by ColdWarWarriors is likely a pre-David Kelly "suicide" BBC production. It gives the real story that Sablin was an anti-Stalinist revolutionary who had learned the truth of the Bolshevik Revolution from studying the Russian archives and had decided to lead an overthrow of the Stalinist counterrevolution to put the USSR back onto the road of Lenin.
A professor of mine who was a Clancy fan told me that Tom Clancy was called in by the Navy, who wanted to know where he had gotten his detailed information about Russian submarines. Very likely the CIA had given it to Clancy, as they had, I suspect, commissioned him to write an authentically anti-communist (not an anti-Stalinist nor anti-Bureaucracy) book which would spin the true story in the direction they often do-- in the interest of suppressing public knowledge of the international workers' movement, and the true history of the Bolshevik Revolution under the leadership of Lenin and its degeneration under Stalin and his heirs. Clancy mysteriously died not long after the publication of Ginden and Hagberg's book telling the true story, probably because his handlers feared he might pose the risk of letting the truth out.
Just look at the anti-communists commenting here, many of them perhaps also commissioned by the CIA or regurgitating it second-hand from the CIA's John Birch Society and China Lobby front groups (among many), trying to turn this documentary into one more opportunity to spread anti-communist propaganda for the beneficiaries of a dying system, running scared. The US plutocracy didn't recognize the USSR until Stalin and his clique had overthrown the Bolshevik leadership of V I Lenin and Leon Trotsky. Wall Street pundits actually used to extol Stalin in the 1930s; Trotsky presented evidence of that to the Dewey Commission on the Moscow Trials of 1937, trials in which the original Bolshevik Central Committee were branded "counterrevolutionaries" and sentenced to death.

fascinating...all want to be in the game of life...the Soviet system evolved to have and have nots - population totally out of the game of Life - like North Koreans today
