Looking good Joe. Does not soaking the planks take a lot of heat to bend and form them? I’ve been using the Model Expo plank bender and soaking. Worked pretty well.
Thank you. I have been trying several things from dry wood to lightly wet with about 10 minutes in warm water. To be honest dry has been working very well in this kit since the lumber is fairly straight to begin with. Second choice would be soaking and manual bending.
Hi Neil, each full plank that makes the wales are two planks side-by-side to make a full piece. For instance 70-17R mates with 70-17/2R, etc. I watched the video and cannot find the place you are referring to. Can you please post the time in the video. If there is something to be corrected and I would love to fix it before going any further.
@@genojoe3176 on my model, all of the plank (pairs) that have the complex join (from memory, rows 14, 16, 20) have two sets of each (so four halves) with one pair being stuck on the other to form the wales which stick out from the rest of the planking. When you showed the side of your model you appeared to have 'complex' joins on the top two rows which makes me think you have put the second 14 pair below the first. Hope that is clear.
@@NeilGKing Neil, I just might have made that error, but I cannot look thru the hull to check the numbers on the back of the planks. I'm not sure how to remedy that but I will see if there is anything I can do to adjust it. If not I will have to bite the bullet and modify the wales. Boo-boo #1. I am certain there will be more.
@@NeilGKing I think I found it! I took every part out of the box and came up with a second pair of part numbers 70-14R3 and 70-142R3. This will allow me to add a second set of rubbing strips which I currently do not have in place.

Absolutely! Thank you for your advice and I will correct the fit tighter as I go. For now I will use wood putty to close off the small gaps and sand them flush. Again, thank you!

It looks like you've put the two #14 planks side by side. I think one was meant to go on top of the other to form one of the wales? Same with #16

Yes sir, the planks are set in wooden sprues like in a plastic kit. It is certainly interesting.
