This channel began as a testament to the memory of my son, Scott. Who after struggling with a lifetime of fighting depression took his life to end the constant torment inside. Scott was a Firefighter who championed everyone, but sadly was not able to do so for himself. He is greatly missed but never forgotten.
To fight my own depression after experiencing the death of a child, I came across three channels that ultimately began wooden ship modeling as something to take my mind off of things, Olha, Alex, and John have changed my outlook and offered direction, guidance, and of courses, happiness.

Endurance Pt 8 with #occre
Other than about an hour to touch up imperfections, I have now concluded the build of HMS Endurance. I will try and make a final video which I will add a voice-over as the final video walking you thru my build. Being only my second video I want the apologize to those who put up with me and for not throwing a shoe at your screen. The entire build totaled 220 hours which will be broken down on the final video.

We are almost completed with the Endurance build as the rigging comes to an end. Remaining are two more sails, assorted ropes, and installing the previously built life boats. Out of respect the flag will remain the final component in this build. This is my second build and I am looking forward to my next ship, The Santa Maria by Pavel Nikitin. #occrp
My Wife Saved My Butt!!! Endurance Pt 7 with @OcCre

This video shows the completion of the shrouds, deadeyes, ratlines, and bowsprit chains. If you follow me you see that I struggle where it comes to clove hitch knots. My wife saw the struggle and watched a few videos and asked if she could try. And try she did, bailed out my butt out! I accepted defeat graciously.

We have completed all the masts, spars, and bowsprit. This includes sanding, shaping, rigging, and adding blocks as needed. Altogether this portion of the build equaled 10.5 hours. Next stop rigging.

I was lucky enough to attend the 2024 - 41st Annual Northeast Model Ship Show, where I was lucky enough to also meet Olha for the second time! I walked around taking pictures and when reviewing, can you guess who my favorite is??? I also met @chrismacks3881 and his wife who also drove in from New Jersey. Chris is also a raffle winner from Olha as well.

The fifth installment of the Endurance life boats, although they get installed later in the build process, I believe they came out well.

Również zastanawiam się, czy kupić zestaw Santa Maria. Na YT spotkałem filmy, na których było widać za krótkie listwy poszycia, brak drobnych elementów etc. Mam nadzieję, że firma to poprawi.
I will be starting this ship soon, but not certain exactly when. Please feel free to subscribe and you will be notified as to the build progress. I hope to soon!
I'm just starting "final lap" with my schooner "Polotsk" by Master Korabel, russian company from Sankt Petersburg, in my humble opinion one of the best in the world, although their kit ropes are a big mistake, so is necessary to buy or do correct ones. Few words about me: I'm living in Gdansk, city in north Poland, and all my life I've worked in ship repair yard Remontowa. Now I'm pensioner.
I use wood glue and just let it have it's time to cure. Remember it's a hobby, no need to be in a rush.
Wow nice line up. I'm glad you are having fun. I would love to do one of those Beagles
Fabric sails do look so much better!! Looking good buddy!
I agree. I soaked them in tea as suggested by OcCre and the do indeed look life-like.
Great work. Congratulations 😉
Thank you! I am proud of it.
@@genojoe3176 you really should. Great model
Congratulations Joe! What a fantastic result. Will look forward to the final video
Thank you, sir! I am very pleased with it. I will be working on the final video and voice-over this weekend. Hopefully I do it justice.
Looking good Joe ! So, are you going start the Santa Maria next ? Started working on Part 2 video of the Santa Maria today.
Yes sir, I am going to start it next. I really enjoyed this one and thank you! I will be looking forward to your next video.
Looks incredible, great job!!
Thank you! It's getting there, almost done!
Wolfgang summed it up well. @wolfgangzinn 21 minutes ago Thank you very much. Yes, the choice of glue is (almost) a science. My simplest rule is: if it doesn't have to hold immediately and can dry, then white glue, especially with light-coloured yarn. For brown or black yarns, superglue often works, or if a dark discolouration of the natural yarn is not noticeable.
Great work. Congratulations
Thank you, Roma!
You have been busy! Sails look awesome mate :)
Thank you, sir! I am almost there!!! I have enjoyed this kit for sure.
I'm now up to a total of nine broken threads. Ugh....Almost done!
CA glue can be very brittle, I do use CA for rigging and have not come across this issue, it could also be the cotton used, 9 times out of 10 I replace the kit cotton.
I will try Starbond with my next ship which I received from Amazon. Yesterday a total of 3 more deadeyes snapped from the masts and yards as I was working with them. The thread used was the OcCer brand that was received with the kit. So as it stands it was OcCer thread and both Loctite and Gorilla standard CA, not gel. I certainly do not want that to happen on my next build which is the Santa Maria from Pavel. Is there a recommendation about replacing the cotton besides Rope of Scale?
@@genojoe3176 pavels ropes are good, dont need replacing
Model looks great Joe, like a previous comment my wife would roll her eyes feign interest and walk off, your a lucky man 😊
That I am! Thank you!
I use Starbond medium CA glue on mine without any breakages so maybe its a brand thing? Not sure
I have used both standard Gorilla and Loctite CA, but I have never tried the gel version of either. I will most certainly give it a try and use the gel variant. Thank you, folks!
Ordered! It will be here later this afternoon. Gotta love Amazon!
Hi, superglue makes the string hard and therefore can break.
I was working on the ship for several hours tonight and I am rigging the sails and I have had three more break off. I will try the gel style of CA in my next build and see what happens. The folks telling me to use the CA gel are very good builder and are tops! Have you tried the CA gel instead?
I’ve always used stick fast brand thick super glue, on everything I build. I’ve never had an issue with it in any way. And I’ve used it on a lot of projects that have thread. Hope that helps.
Oh yeah! Thank you!
I think it's better to use super glue gel. It's more flexible and I think it will not snap like that
Ah, perhaps that is my problem, not using the gel version where it comes to rigging. I will use the gel and see how it goes. Roman, thank you for answering. I have received almost 350 views and you are the only one to answer. As a matter of fact, people have been giving me a very high amount of negative reviews on this and all I did was ask a question to problem. It is sad how people think these days.
@@genojoe3176 never let no one to get in your head with negative comments. You are doing a great job. Be proud
@@homeharbour6238 Thank you!
@@genojoe3176 always welcome my friend 😉
I agree with super glue gel. I haven't had any problems .
Great. You are really lucky Looking forward to see it all done
You are a lucky man. Great to have someone who got your back
Great looking model
Lifeboats are my pain 🤣
Oh yeah! This was my first ship where I had to construct the life boats as the others were metal.
Looks awesome
Very useful in our business
Very clean work
Looks like pretty cool project
Thank you, sir! This kit is my second ship build and I am surely loving it!
@@genojoe3176 don't call me sir😜😅 great work my friend
Great work Congratulations my friend
Thank you very much!
It’s awesome that she is helping you like that. My wife’s idea of helping me is shaking her head or rolling her eyes! Lol
She does that too, but mostly she will jump right in!
Great work Joe. Looks like your wife is a natural with the hitch knots. I may offer her a contract when I'm next at that stage ;)
She really enjoyed it! I think there is something wrong with her...
Thank you!
Nice work Joe, the model looks great so far.
Thank you, sir!
Great work Joe!
Slow and steady wins the race. Thank you!
@@genojoe3176 I think that was the hardest thing for me to learn. Patience ;)
@@GregWilson635 I still cannot wrap my head around the ratlines clove hitch. No matter how long I study them I just cannot seems to grasp it. Feeling my age!
@genojoe3176 for me, rigging is the hardest part. I'm reasonably good at clove hitch knot now as have done over 3000 of them 😉
@@GregWilson635 OUCH!!!!
Nice to meet you today! Chris and Tanya
Likewise!
Thanks for sharing Joe. Would be great to meet Olha
She is an amazing person and very willing to share her knowledge!
Those instructions are a real blast from the past. Should make for an interesting build.
You got that right, perhaps even complicated.
Nice work mate. my fat fingers would make a mess of that :P
Thank you!
Great work Joe . The boats look awesome!
Thank you, sir! I am certainly enjoying it!
Looking good. 🫡👌
Hope you survived the New York trip. 🫡😃 have fun with the lifeboats, they’re neat little extra models to build. 👌
You got that right! The lifeboats are just about complete and were tricky little buggers. I will have a short in a bit showing the progress.
Good job! Glad you survived!!
Oh yeah. The "antics" are way up by Columbia and we were down at Radio City which is on 50th. All is well!
Planking came out really well. Great work :)
Thank you, Greg!
It just needs a bit of TLC, putty, and paint. Baby steps.
lol surviving NYC, sounds like a video game!
It certainly does!!!
The smaller the boat, the harder I find planking lol
Fingers crossed!!!
All those little details take forever to do but are soooo worth it once they are in place. Completely made me just sit and stare at them. Do you do the same after you get them in place?
Absolutely! They give me the warm and fuzzies...LOL
Very nice work! 👍👍👍
Thank you, sir!
Nice work !
Almost there! I am looking forward to starting a new ship, but I am still deciding on which one.
Thank you!!!
My dad made the revel plastic model of the curry sark back in the 80’s. He put so much detail into it. It got destroyed years later being in a storage unit. I think that’s what got me into trying to make wooden ships. Of course (I think you already know) the USS Constitution that I got from model shipways has actually blueprints for instructions which I can’t make heads or tails of. So probably won’t ever finish it. Some day I’ll finish the Beagle. Only need to do the masts and sails and all the little details on that one. Looking great Geno!!
You got this! Maybe one day you will pull one of those kits out and go for it.
I’m looking forward to seeing all your kits complete, especially that Beagle, since I worked on that one but never finished it.
Your Beagle is one that got me going! That and the USS Constitution. Tapping my foot and waiting...
Holy crap buddy!! That’s a lot of model ships. Congrats on your retirement as well. Looking forward to seeing those done.
Yes sir! Looking forward to it!
Greg, you would not believe the negative and disgusting remarks being sent to my email address in regards to this video. I was merely sharing with the community that life is good, and we all need something to make us happy in life. For me it is my new retirement and recent new found hobby. However, I am not sitting here and purchasing kits willy-nilly and flaunting greed. The two kits from Olha and Pavel were won after I entered my name in a raffle. The two OcCre kits were a retirement gift from my wife, and the two Scientific kits were also gifted to me by my friend Gary whose dad designed them. That leaves one kit that I purchased, The Marie Jeanne, which I purchased from @MicroMart with a gift card, so my flaunting comes down this...they were all gifts. It's sad when you have to defend your every action and deed.
I can't believe that people would be so petty . I like seeing people with the things that make them happy. I have a stack of unbuilt ships. I need to retire to get them all built 😉
@@GregWilson635 exactly. What a sin...
Don’t ever worry about defending what you got goin on. Those people don’t pay your bills. You know what you can or can’t do. I’ll stand with you buddy!
Some nice kits Geno, enjoy your retirement, im envious ive still got a few years to go yet
