    LambChop, the "waggly" throttle you refer to at 16:59 is called throttle free play and is adjustable on most modern sport bikes.

    850cc, triple cylinder, small, light, 100mph in less than 7 seconds and it has a crossplane engine for under 8k. Wow!

      No crossplane motor in this one, thats the MT10. This ones a triple.

    • @exuptoy
      @exuptoy 6 років тому +3

      Gary Hale An inline-Triple is naturally “ crossplane,” having its three crankpins in three different planes, spaced at 120 degrees to each other. It's Yamaha marketing ploy calling it a CP3 to link it to the CP4 engine. That is a genuine crossplane as the firing order makes it a Big Bang engine. Yams Triple is no different to my old 675 Street Triple or my current Daytona!

    • @tomgavelda6978

      @@exuptoy yes it's the cross plane engine concept. Says CP3 on side case. Yamaha got those motors down brother. I have 2015 FZ. not newr MT.

    Good overall test on a great bike. One small comment I would correct you on was when you said that the bike making about 80 lbs of torque. Not a chance, and it would need to be about 1000 cc to do that. Yamaha claim high sixties for it which results in 63lbs at the rear wheel in most Dyno tests. Its still plenty for such a light bike and it kicks in early with that engine design.

  • @wales2wheeler686

    If it is the same as my Tracer you can remove the throttle free play easily. Follow the cable from the throttle and there is a rubber sleeve. Roll the sleeve back to reveal the adjusting screw. Nice vid as usual.

    Test rode mt09 and mt10 SP, quickshifter was unuseable unless really gunning it. Throttle still really snatchy to the point it was dangerous in slow traffic. Power of MT10 was insanely fun, so much power! And you could really sling it about in corners and that sound!!!!
    If that throttle was smoother it would be a dynamite bike.
    Test rode the speed triple RS straight after the MT10 and the refinement was on a different level.
    The all out mentalness was not there but more torque and just beautifully useable power.
    Throttle is do look smooth and felt more planted in corners

  • @jessej9613

    Bought this bike, test rode new street triple, Z900, xsr900 and BMW f800r.
    All great bikes but I found the MT09 just made me smile and laugh the most in my helmet, made me feel comfortable and inspired confidence, it just sparked something inside me.
    My mate stiffened the front and rear suspension for me, feels nice and firm now where it was feeling soft in the front.
    Only gripe is the seat hurts my bum after an hour or two.
    Great bike if you choose it, she won't disappoint.
    Ride safe

    Ive had this for 6 weeks now and you can realy work with the stock suspension
    quite well even if your are around 95-100 kg like me. It has a wery soft set upp from
    factory. For me this is a beast off a bike. Much faster and more fun than the Kawasaki
    Z900 I had last year. My bike is 5.5 kg lighter than stock and around 5 hp more with full
    exhaust. 187.5 kg and 120hp is not bad esp with that torque.

    I took the MT9 out for a test ride before a bought the GSX-S 750,they are both about the same power the only reason i didn't buy the MT was due to seat size been only 4ft and a peanut i my self bow leg on it and found it hard to get feet down at traffic light ect.But that said it's a awesome bike to ride and i might when it comes time to chance the Suzuki get MT10...

    16:05 I think lifting the back up could make the bike maybe dangerously unstable though. As you mentioned it is already very 'flickable' due to the short wheelbase and low steering rake. Out of the factory it already has a rake of 25 degrees, which is relatively extreme (sportsbikes generally have 25 degrees, but have a longer wheelbase which improves stability somewhat). I have read some people already getting wobbles with the stock setup.
    Rising the rear would only make this angle smaller, so I think if you do that you'd better also get a steering damper for highway speeds. Either that, or you have to lift up the front as well to retain the same caster angle.

    you can adjust the "wobbly throttle"' check further up the throttle cable. I have the xsr900 and had the same issue, same engine. Yamaha did good with that 3-cyl. Every time I roll on the throttle I still get that feeling - I get giddy.

    • @kalel33

    • @chitownbikerboymotovlog467
      @chitownbikerboymotovlog467 7 років тому

      Lamb Chop Rides, Fevo-10 is correct. The throttle free play is adjustable, as it is on most modern sport bikes.

      @chitownbikerboymotovlog467 7 років тому

      kalel33 The ride-by-wire throttle (cable) controls an electrical/electronic servo which adjusts the throttle bodies. That is different from the mechanical adjustability of the throttle free play.

    The thing I liked about older models like 2014-2015s were that the front wheel would come up as soon as you roll on the throttle which isn’t the case with these newer models I guess due to traction control and wheelie control.Many people would prefer it this way but I personally like a bike that’s wild and loves to wheelie and back flip on me as soon as I roll the throttle..

    • @ridingwithsam

      Yes sir - my 3rd season on my 2015 FZ09 not MT09. all meat and potatoes.
      No ABS traction control etc. Have to get used to snappy throttle yes but the 14 - 15 models also have the quickest 0 - 60. Less than 3 seconds mate. Some people dont believe that but I'm telling you . Look it up. I never really wheelie on my older motorcycle but now I've done HUNDREDS of 1st and 2nd gear wheelies on this Just little ones. It takes some talent to roll on and on but it will hold up the tire gear after gear if your brave and talented. And can afford one to practice and drop. I've ridden from Ohio to Massachusetts - to PA - W.VA- Blue ridge parkway etc. Padded seat velcro additionl on and I ride fine all damn day. Never gonna sell. Iconic bike. I'm 52 this year and I tell you speed is exhilarating but torque is more fun and keeps me young!

A quickshifter is not designed to turn your bike into an automatic, it's meant for when you are gunning it and your engine is in it's peak powerband in which you are supposed to shift, it then let's you slide in your gear without realeasing the throttle. = quick shift.

    I have the first year 2014 with the original programming. Yes it's a brute! The throttle is something to get used to, but when you do it is brilliant! The 2017 seems docile, slow to respond to throttle input, hard to wheelie. Mine is hard to keep the front down!
    The 2017 front end looks horrible! Traction control? I bought mine because it's a dumb bike. No ABS, No traction control, just pure bike! I have made needed suspension upgrades that make the bike a cornering beast by replacing the fork internals with a brilliant kit from Stoltec and the rear shock from a Suzuki Hyabusa that's nearly a direct fit. It's not a long distance bike, it's stiff, the seat is a sheet of plywood, a butt buster! As a canyon carver, track day bike and drag racer it's damned good at all of them now! Predictable. I do want to add the quick shifter that would better my ET's and lap times to finish it as about the best all around bike with probably the best tripe motor I know of.

    • @billness2635
      @billness2635 7 років тому

      2008 and earlier GSXR and Hyabusa are nearly a direct fit. The swing arm bushing and bolt are a different size, but by using the Yamaha bolt and bushing in the Suzuki shock fixes that. The Suzuki spring is too stiff, I reused the stock Yamaha spring. To fit the external reservoir, you'll need to trim out the plastic pan under the seat and move the harnesses aside.

      corbin luster I’ll answer. Been riding for a few years. Had a liter as my first bike, it depends on your patience level if you’re new. If you’re not then it depends on power. 09 will outperform low end but gsxr will always win high end. If you want to go 180. Go for gsxr if you like 0-60 go 09

    • @spondonste
      @spondonste 2 роки тому

      I've looked at MT09 dyno charts and typically they appear to give a max torque figure of around 64-65lb/ft (at around 8400rpm). Below 6000rpm there's less than 57lb/ft so I'm always surprised when it's called a wheelie monster as low-down torque isn't that high. Maybe the gearing helps???

    Good review. I have to say it's like a Z1000 wannabe.....but that's probably a bit harsh... I should probably say I can't understand why companies are producing bikes that are literally 100cc apart..!

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  7 років тому +1

      +Comfy Sofa yes true but it's 100 cc and missing a cylinder 😀 it's a long way off in powet compared to the mt-10 completely different animal, don't let the capacity fool you into thinking it must be similar.. now the mt07 that could be a different story.. may have to try one and find out

    • @comfysofa1549
      @comfysofa1549 7 років тому

      But thats the thing isnt it.....if its a long way off then why bother...? you may as well go for the mt07. None of them are for me (the mt range) its definately subjective but for me they look awful, but then, the next person may think theyre the best looking bikes ever. But, its a good thing otherwise there'd be no variety!
      Im hoping to get to Loomies a couple of times this year (live is Bristol) so if i do ill send you a tweet...you may be free for a meet up... :)
      One thing i must say which was refreshing to see from your review was that pretty well all of the mainstream reviewers, fast bikes, performance bikes etc etc didnt mention the shitty qs and some of the other stuff you were critical of, which is how a review should be...ive found that these days from a mainstream reviewers angle everything is great - theres never really a bad review as they wouldnt get asked to fly half way round the world on these things.....
      The thing i always find funny is the year after when the current one is old news then theres always things wrong with it...i always remember watching a panigale review with Al Fagan and he talked about the previous years model as being a "scaffold bar with wheels"...

      I think it's a pointless upgrade unless you take it to a track, at least here where I live with the current road quality and traffic. I have tried both the new MT-09 and the SP. Coming from a 2014 MT-09 I didn't feel much difference on the road between the 2018 MT-09 and SP except they both are a lot better then the older model that I ride. I wouldn't personally get the SP model, instead I would modify a regular MT-09 with the money that you save; new exhaust, a tune, heated grips, cosmetic upgrades etc.

    • @sergeantsodom6969
      @sergeantsodom6969 4 роки тому

      I disagree with Ta3kno solely on the basis of it really just depends on your weight and size- for me the suspension on the standard is absolulte shite- and I'd highly reccomend upgrading to the SP for an extra grand, as it will cost atleast that for some decent suspension. IMO (and the opinion of many professionals) Suspension and setup should be the second most important upgrade- the first being tyres.
