    Hi Mark .
    Got one .
    Best bike I've ever ridden .
    And I've had a few .
    Agree with everything you say .
    The only thing I found is that it wines in sixth gear .
    Tried two demo bikes before I bought mine .
    They all wine in sixth gear .
    Love it .
    Changed the seat for a shad seat found the stock seat very uncomfortable .

    To test the off/on throttle fueling, from about 40 mph, shift down to 2nd and close the throttle completely, then open it back up gradually. The issue is getting completely off and then back on the throttle when the bike is slightly up in the revs as one would tend to do when carving corners. Most bikes don't have an issue simply pulling from lower revs once the throttle has been applied. Engines today are starved for fuel once completely off the throttle to lessen emissions and improve mileage. Bringing the power back on is where the abrupt throttle rears its ugly head.

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  5 років тому +2

      Hi totally agree ,thanks for that info ,the reason i do 30 mph ish constant is to just feel if the bike is "hunting" or surging on very partial throttle, i had an 03 honda blackbird which was really bad at 30 mph but you didnt notice it at 60 mph plus thanks again mark

    • @VeeFour
      @VeeFour 5 років тому +2

      You raise a good point, and after riding scores of new bikes over the last few years I've noticed this issue as well, especially on track where the abrupt throttle pick up really makes its presence felt.
      However I've had my SP for over a year now, and I have found that Yamaha in spite of the ever tightening noose of emission regs, have managed to work miracles on the throttle response of this particular bike. The throttle action itself is very light and can feel too light until you get used to it, but the actual engagement and pick up from a standing start, and when exiting a corner from a fully closed throttle, almost feels like the bike is breating through carbs.
      Whomever it was over at Yamaha that dialled in this bike's stock fuelling, deserves a hearty bonus in my opinion

    • @Bredaxe
      @Bredaxe 5 років тому +2

      Euro emissions standards are trying to defy the science of combustion engine fuel air reactions. The injector cutoff parameters when you close the throttle make the bikes twitchy and fuel starved.

    • @MotoGoato
      @MotoGoato 5 років тому +1

      Well said Saddlebag 👍 ... I'm not sure about the 09 but the MT07 (what I ride) has a "decel injector cut-off" function in the engine management software which does what it says on the tin - cuts off the injectors completely when the throttle is fully closed from mid to high revs. It has exactly the effect you are talking about ... choppy, lurching throttle response when trying to open it up gently from fully shut whilst carving bends or even filtering and riding in traffic. Best cure is ECU tuning - had my 07 done and the difference is night and day! Like riding a bike with really good quality and very well set up carbs... smooth, responsive and sublime compared to stock mapping and software 🙂

    • @ewooll
      @ewooll 5 років тому +2

      Thanks for giving me the answers to my jerky, lurchy, on/off same as a light switch throttle response on my SV650a! Totally dreadful and in the wet can even be dangerous when gently trying to apply the power on a bend when....WHAM it kicks in like a mule. btw, I test rode a 2019 MT-09 and it was so smooth, almost like a twist and go scooter. Lovely and refined bike.

    Nice job on this one, I have the tracer 900 gt, and the only problem with it is at motorway speeds there is a awful vibration through the foot pegs which is really annoying and spoils a excellent bike. The engine on these bikes is awesome, can’t see why anyone would want more power. New bike is the z900rs, or speed twin. Speed twin seemed a little dull to me when I sat on one, not special enough to make me buy one, but the 900rs looks even better in the flesh. All the best.

    Hi Mark, had one of these as my “fun bike” and had a great 9 months with it. However wanted something to “treasure”. So sold it and got a Ducati Monster 1200R. I haven’t regretted the move but early days! Keep up the great work and looking forward to your decision! Yours aye, Alan

    Hi Mark nice review as always. I know these bikes are very popular and as you say 3 cylinders does offer a stronger level of torque compared to a 4 cylinder of the same capacity. I think for me though I would prefer the Kawasaki Z900 over this machine because it has a lower seat height, has more physical horse power, is about £1000 cheaper and doesn't have that silly subframe which carries the number plate (daft idea in my opinion). Looking forward to the reveal lol.

    Do you prefer Yamaha's triples or Triumph's? This MT-09 has similar power output to the Street Triple 765 RS also with Ohlins suspension. Much prefer the Triumph TFT makes Yamaha's one look Fisher Price in comparison. But I think the Street Triple RS is a little more expensive which is a win for the MT-09. I would still like the Speed Triple RS. The sound of this bike is awesome imho. Thanks for reviewing and sharing.

      Hi ,well the k5/k6 is widely regarded as the best sports bike ever made ,mine had 165 wrhp and was super light at about 165 kg ,and it had the most amazing bottom end and mid range ,the.mt09 is a great bike ,well priced for the base model and a nice torquey triple with 115 hp so if you wanted a good all round street naked the Mt would be a good choice ,but if your more power hungry then get the mt10,. But in sheer thrills the k5 wins easy and they are quite affordable at say £4 to 5 k here in the UK thanks Mark
