- Had an issue with water in the driver's footwell area so in this video I address all the water drains on a 2004 Porsche Cayenne S. I hope this helped someone with figuring out there own issues with water intrusion or just clearing out the water drains. Thanks for watching and please Like and Subscribe.

Man, you are awesome. You have already got me through replacing starter, et al. And now this was a totally hidden problem.
Ignition lock faulty code is caused from wires submersed in the passenger footwell. Trunk shocks next. Details matter and you do the best job out there explaining what you have learned.
Thanks man. That’s much appreciated. I don’t know everything but I find things out as I go.
Great detailed video!! Wondering why this one doesnt this have thousands of views, I saw a lot of other videos before this one and this was by far the most helpful.. Thanks for the time invested to help people out!
Thanks man, I appreciate that haha. Idk why it doesn’t have a bunch of views! I’m trying to grow the channel but I think since my videos are slightly longer it deters people from clicking on them haha. I’m glad this helped and thanks again. :D
Kamal Akeel you are correct long video, but is the most detailed I have seen, to fix my don’t get discouraged thanks it was Worth my 16 minutes
Nice writeup. You did miss two crucial drains that are the main culprit of leaking even after all of the work you did.
They are in the interior footwell on both sides. Not easy to get to due to Porsche's uber insulating practices. At least four layers of overlapping insulation to burrow through in order to reach them. If you still have slow sunroof drains, you will immediately see where it is hanging out once you pull these drains out of the firewall...because it will all come out in your car (have a container ready). I believe these drain into the main chamber which then goes through the larger star drains behind the fender.
The routine is the same as other drains: pull it, clean it, snip it, put back in completely and fully seated.
Drivers side is most difficult because of so much insulation and other junk in the way. Almost made me cry.
The little buttons on the bottom are one-way valves so that when you are fjording water, it cannot get in but will drain out. Clearly not meant for huge volumes, just residual.
I think the main water intrusion issue is that when any part of the sunroof drain becomes clogged, It simply overflows the sunroof seal and enters the car. No overflow, no intrusion.
Lastly, your thoughts about the rear sunroof drain are well thought out. I've yet to see a good tutorial on addressing those, aside from disassembling the headliner. Maybe I'll park on a hill and see if they drain out the back flappers when I put water in.
Thanks for the though provoking video!
Thanks for the video. The drains with the bellows behind the front wheels are for the bulkhead. Water draining down the windscreen will go in to the area there, and the sunroof drains also run into this area. Lots of leaves and gunk can get through the scuttle and settle here (on both sides). When I bought my Cayenne it had been sitting for 6 months and there was about a dustpan's worth of crap that came out of each side. Don't just pull out the plug, you also need to get something up in there to clear it out. If you stick a finger in that hole, you will feel the crud in there, you need to get it all out if there is any.
The second hole behind the front wheel arch liners is not a drain. It is simply a grommet blanking off a hole. The hole is for the air suspension pipework if you have the pneumatic suspension, although I suppose if you don't have air suspension you can use it as a drain :-) but it is slightly higher than the actual drain.
Thank you for all the good info. We’ve cleared them more than once on this and our other Cayenne and did stick stuff in the drains behind the fender liner and did have a lot of leaves and gunk come through. It’s crazy how much stuff ends up settling in there.
You missed the left driver’s side drain but regardless your video is the very first( I’ve watched at least 5) I’ve seen showing the rear drain location. Huge thx for that!❤
Evap drain is not the cause! The sunroof drains actually go to the firewall and you can access them in each of the footwells. The drains in the front fenders are not for the sunroof! Look by the driver's side e brake pedal at the firewall underneath the insulation and you'll find the sunroof drains. What happens is that these get clogged, then water literally overflows into your headliner and runs down the a pillar and into the respective footwell.
Manual says use weed trimmer line to sort of roto root the lines out starting at the sunroof drain holes
Smartest comment on this issue yet across 3 platforms rennt3ch included good show
Those plugs are designed to keep water out when fording through water up to a depth of 22.8 inches in calm water...remember these "cross-overs" were made to handle off-road environments... my 2004 Touareg is exactly the same...
Best video I have seen yet on this issue. I'm having the same problem on the driver's side. Now I know what to do. Thanks
PENNYLS1 thank you, I appreciate the comment and I’m glad this helped.
You are best you tuber ever ,now i know why my carpet is always wet wen i use the aircondition, secondly pls one of my b pillar vent wont let air come in the cabin
Thank you. I'm going to follow all the drains. Mine starts leaking from the paseenger front Headliner n sometimes on the driver side. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate
Great video - your persistence and curiosity paid off. This was helpful for sure… Thank you!
Enjoyed your video, brother. Let me tell you, front two drains inside the fender wells. The amount of crap that came out there was insane. I also popped off that other little plug and stuck my pinky in there, and it was crammed full of crushed leaves. Thanks again, And we're not talking about stuff you smoke, rhino chaser out
Those small flat round plugs on the frame…I think you only saw the front two. There are actually three on both sides. Front, middle and rear. If you have forded in deep water those holes in the frame will let water into the chassis. I got a bunch of water stuck in there and it sloshed around until I found those plugs a couple days later.
They just pop off and let all the water drain.
I believe they are factory holes to allow installation of the factory rock rails or sidesteps.
Thank you! This is a great video and I appreciate the honesty in it-bc that’s how I feel about it too. Currently a small amount of water in my drivers footwell-and after watching this realized I was missing a few drains when I clear them every 3 years...
The water in the footwell will eventually cause significant electrical problems. In all early Cayennes and Touaregs, there is a wiring harness that runs under the carpets and the water causes corrosion and various issues. Back in those days, when a car was ordered with options, the factory would splice into the harness to add the options and they did not use proper connections that are water tight. So the splices will corrode. Under the carpet is yellow foam that that soaks the drain water, or air con condensor water, like a sponge. It sits on the harness and eventually causes mayhem. Posting this for anyone searching for water issues in these cars as well as electrical issues. The fix is to repair the connections properly, keep the drains clear and makes sure the sunroof, door seals and air con are not leaking into the footwells.
2011 cayenne and driver side carpet has water. I have two codes. Also one of the fuses keeps blowing up every time I install a new one. I suspect wiring got damaged causing those codes and fuse to pop.
Great comment Thx
My A/C evap was also plugged up on mine recently by the way. I Had a great deal of water on the passenger side footwell. I’m praying The wiring harness isn’t damaged. It runs under there. I really should take the carpet and the foam out to dry it. I have a hair dryer running pointed at the wet area right now. Been running 3 hours. So I’ve had two of the drains plugged during my 5 years of 2006 Turbo S ownership. The two big ones in the wheel wells have had the plugs removed before I bought the car. Obviously a huge engineering mistake on Porsche’s part.
Great info shared! Own a 2009 ..I'll share your video with my car repair shop .
Bro thanks 🙏 this was very helpful I hope you figure out how to fix your cayenne.
The little plugs just behind the front wheels near the jack points can hold back a LOT of water. Mine were plugged a couple years ago and I heard sloshing in the frame of the car making turns or going over bumps. Wiggled a Phillips screwdriver up in there and it drained for quite a while. I was amazed at the amount of water.
scott h Yeea, I believe it, I’ve seen some videos where people drain them and it takes forever hahaha.
Hey, I need a few details if you don't mind, 2006 touareg, whenever i am driving around I hear the sound of water sloshing. Can you tell me exact location of drain
Aniket Kumar 40 seconds into this video. The sloshing noise is usually from those being plugged.
Stick a small screwdriver up in each hole on both sides of the car and ream it around a bit.

I had an inch of water under the subwoofer!! I hope the subwoofer didn't get damaged
I had fixed the front drain over 3 times earlier as it got clogged occasionally
I live in a hot humid area where ac is used 9 months a year.
Thank you for your guidance
Where did you have the issue of water by the subwoofer? Where did it originate? Thanks
The only other reason I can think of for why the grommets are there is to stop the ingress of rodents.
They do like to nibble through hoses and can cause major damage in a car that isn't used every day or is left unused for long periods.
Great video
Very good video. Have a 2008 T'reg V8 FSI. Been through all these problems. Also sunroof drains were clogged from dust and rain. Whilst inspecting all outlets I have found out that the ones in the rear were closed off with some paper clips!!! That is also a way for a garage to make money when you have to install as a consequence a new roof in liner.
T Prey thank you. Wow, I can’t believe you found those with paper clips on them haha. The automotive industry in America is messed up.
@@kamalakeel scam is everywhere
Good in-depth video cheers I have same issue on a 2003 MY will look at all these this weekend. Cheers
That was a big help, even with my 2012 Cayenne S. Thank you so much for posting
Need to also use a section hosepipe on the end of a vacuum cleaner to suck leaves 🍁 from the base of the bulkhead.
Yep same in mine ! And I think the drain on the left hand side of the car is more common to clog up as you say pull the plug out and try and get in there and clean out the crud
Interesting, why?!
Thanks for this video. All is clear
Thank you! I will check them all.
Great video and very useful 👍
There more drains on the sills with rubber grommets about 1 inch in diameter I took mine out and at least a gallon of water came I couldn't believe it..and the ones at the bottom if tbe windscreen when you open the bonnet are often clogged from the top they had lime a spoon ge in there which I replaces with some cut plastic mesh ..great video thanks I have a smell of coolant though and coolant loss which I am trying to source any ideas hoses look good ☹
atleast your smart enuff to use jack stands ....most people try to do this with just a jack...
good job kid.
You missed the two drains at the bottom corners of the hatch. They're the same style as the two under the rockers. You need to reinstall the one you took out for the A/C. That's a condensate drain. A/C's naturally remove water from the air, which drains out the drain. If you are anywhere there is moisture in the air, you need that drain reinstalled or ALL the condensate water will be draining onto your passenger side floor.
Ah I see, we missed those. Yeea I wasn’t sure where all of them would be. We did install that back, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t clogged somehow causing the condensation to get into the cab.
Very helpful and chilled. Thanks 👍
Had the same issue where my 06 Cayenne S would result in wet carpet on the driver but never really had issue on the passenger. Removed the drain plug made it better but still was getting water drops through the cabin lights near the sunroof. I did the compressor method with hot water to loosen up any hard debris, lights still leak on heavy rain. I gave up, lights still work and isn’t causing damage to the roof liner so screw it.
That’s an interesting location for it to be leaking. Yeea, I think you’d maybe have to remove the whole headliner to really figure out where it’s coming from and that’s a lot of hassle haha.
On the A/C drain, that flapper sticks especially if the car doesn't use the AC for a while, since the water seems to keep it lubed. Tear off the flapper and re-install.
Corey Renner thanks man. I know before we purchased the vehicle it had been sitting for a while so that would make sense for my particular situation.
Wondering how to fix wiring that got wet on driver side wish you could do details on that bundle thanks great video but needs a little better audio but still great
did this job today thanks to you. Great how to Kamal!
Cool video 👍🏻
Porsche Tech thanks man, I just checked your channel out and it’s pretty sweet.
Coolvideo
Cool.. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Is there only one ac drain in footwell on passengerside or one on driverside also?
There’s just the one on the passenger side I believe but if it’s clogged the water can also be found in the drivers footwell. I have also seen a thread in a forum of how the brake booster can leak around the edges allowing water in the drivers footwell through the firewall though. So if it’s not the evap/AC drain then it could be something of that nature.
@@kamalakeel thank you for your swift reply. Amazing.
And thank you for an excellent video
I watched a video where the Cayenne had a lot of water on the driver’s and passenger’s side, I wonder if it’s a problem on the Macan with panoramic roof?
M Dayeh Yeea, I would try and locate the drains and see if they’re clogged. It could definitely be the same sort of issue, just not sure exactly where the drains would be on the Macan but they would probably be in a similar location.
Just some FYI. As a Physicist here's how the plugs work. Just kidding I ain't no physicist. But what happens with the plugs and how they work is they work off of pressure. hard to explain but like when your ears pop. when you open and close the door, you create suction and pressure. when you crack the sunroof open you also create vacuum and pressure in those tubes and when the tubes get pressure, its suppose to push the water out and it does except the pressure isn't strong enough to unplug them being the pressure only lasts for maybe a second. kinda like the little squeezes after a long pee. LOL. I hope that helps some people out who are trying to figure out the head scratching wtf are these stupid tubes for. They are NOT your enemy.
This probably happens to a lot of cars and is the reason why water gets inside.
Hello, so were you ever able to find the issue? I have a 2009 porsche cayenne s and I am currently having the same issue when I hit curves my right foot gets wet...lol!! We have drained from the front where the tries set and from the inside on the passenger side. Don't know where esle to try?? Thank you any help is appreciated😊
I didn't see you clean out the bellows as well as snipping a piece off the end of the rubber drain plugs to allow more flow, especially important for those fish mouth drains behind the front tires
charging7 that’s a good idea to snip those rubber plugs. We actually just didn’t put them back haha. Yeea, there’s still a lot of other things that can be done that we didn’t do in this video. Thanks for the comment.
How did you install the small black pipe back on to the floor? The one for the ac water drain.. I can’t put it back. Any help is highly appreciated
anvinjoe I remember that being difficult as well, I’m pretty sure I used a silicone spray on it to make it a little bit easier to get back together but it definitely is kind of tricky.
Kamal Akeel thank you. I will definitively try it out. My last option is to take it to dealership, but I’m trying to get it done myself
really nice thanks , help me so much
My trunk dont open but the motor werkin n the fuses are good what can i do ?
More videos please 😁
My rear passenger side is always wet
Hi 👋 great video. I had this issue as well. However I now finally know why my Cayenne was wet. Probably yours too. All my drain pipes were clear and the car has no sunroof.... let me know if you want me to send you the video/info.
Elton Kuttschreuter thank you. Yeea, sure you can send the info, we haven’t had issues with water in the footwell since but I’m curious to see what your fix was.
Cool yours is ok now. The cayenne has a plate (silver) where the Aircon hose fits into. This all the way around was leaking water when it rained. The fix I used was a water proof sealant which is resistant to heat and cold. I had to apply it all the way around which meant removing the front carpet and glove box. The strange thing was there was no rust or show of a break. It was just not properly glued to the body anymore. Happy to send pictures to anyone how wants to see. :-)
Elton Kuttschreuter it would be nice if we could post pics in the comments but UA-cams never had it that way unfortunately haha. Thanks for the comment.
Elton Kuttschreuter how did you seal it? From
The inside of the car or outside in engine bay?
Dean Finn hi 👋 how are you? I sealed it from the inside of the car. I removed the front carpet by pulling it forward from under the dash back to the battery. I then used a silicone sealer. There is a metal piece that runs horizontal across the car. It had a thin gap across it where the factory glue I guess had perished. As a precaution I sealed it all around the entire section. It’s been six months now and no water at all inside the car.
Gracias me sirvió mucho
