It's finally time to get my relatively cheaply acquired Porsche Cayenne up onto the ramp at eporsch to find out why I was able to pay what I did for the car, with hopefully no nasty surprises!
Big thank you to eporsch: www.eporsch.co.uk/

seems a very clean car for its age.
I have a cayenne turbo 2003 and live in the Same area as you as recognised the area if you ever wanted to meet up and do a comparison video! Keep up the videos
great idea, could you get in touch with me via Instagram? or i'm on email here: hello@itsjoel.co.uk thanks!@@matthewhull4174

joel, he seems to be a good honest mechanic, telling you stuff is starting to go but not saying you need to get this done, that done, just to look for work. very rare in today's world!
Definitely one of the best mechanics out there, an asset to the trade and to all Porsche owners!
That means absolutely nothing when you have a camera in your face recording your every word & move which is going out for thousands of people too see… stick a known UA-camr & a camera in any mechanics face trust me 99% of them will be on there best behaviour, im not saying this guy is a bad mechanic or untrustworthy I’m just simply stating peoples integrity can change within an instant depending on situation.
@@whoknows3076 trust me, from experience, lots of mechanics are bad mechanics, whether a camera in their face or not… Chris is great regardless.
I like this mechanic. Clearly super knowledgeable about Porsches and I love the nuggets of information he’s giving. And he seems like an honest, genuine guy who’s not just trying to rip you off like so many mechanics!
Definitely a great guy to know he was very friendly and seems very honest with his views not pushing you to fix anything think you got a good bargain with the car
Yeah, really rate Chris and eporsch!
what a helpful guy! ill be visiting there when i get a Porsche one day! glad to see you bought a good one
Either eporsch or larose, both fantastic. You’ll be in safe hands.
Hi Joel, I'm delighted to see that you have scored not only a genuinely great car there. It also pleases me to see and hear the wisdom of a genuinely good, honest mechanic. I own a lurid, metallic green 1978 911 targa among other, far less normal machinery, and have to say that an independent specialist invariably makes sense. I used to do all of my maintenance myself, being ex motor trade, but I had the devil's own job when it came to finding an independent up here in Northumberland, the land that time forgot, but when i did i was so glad that she's as honest as the day is long, very supportive and I've found that - perhaps because a woman is far less likely to patronise and generally treat poorly, another woman. Yes, there are good dealership workshop staff out there, but an indeoendent will always have the potential to operate in a much less incentivised way than a main dealer mechanic. The usual way with the independent trade is that - because they're small business people and havecno need to upsell the job.
On the three occasions (between 1983 and now) on which i have bought cars from dealerships, they mostly tried to charge a ridiculous amount for, say, washer additive, when they know double well that i always carry a bottle of the stuff in all of my car.
Your guy has a very calm, pleasant approach and, with his obviously good brand knowledge, would definitely inspire confidence were I to take a vehicle to him for work to be done.
Two nil to Joel; great car and a totally decent chap to work on it. Your content in the cases of some of your cars left me feelingva little disheartened as I often felt tgat itcwasxabout time karma came knocking for you. With the bargain Copart TT and now, clearly, with the Porsche, your luck appears to be improving, richly deserved i say.😊
Keep up the interesting, informative content anf if I end up buying an early Cayenne to replace my utterly brilliant but recently written off X5 (not my fault, she was parked when a fool in a two day old Peugeot decided to attempt to ram raid the boot space. mine drove home afterwards, his didnt😂), I shall be crediting you with the idea. I hadn't realised how durable a good example of the large Porsche can be. Yours is so clean underneath. Well done, Sir. 👍👍👍👍👍
That was amazing vid such a knowledgeable and nice person. Really explained everything clearly 👍👍
The feedback Chris gave is amazing you can clearly see what needs to be serviced in the coming months. Awesome video 👍
Yep, now just need to create a checklist and work through the items over the coming months
Great video Joel, it’s really good to see a detailed explanation but one I can understand from somebody who really knows their way round these cars. Just gives you so much confidence when you deal with people like that.
Indeed. Very happy to spend money when it’s with knowledgeable and enthusiastic garages!
I had a cheap 2003 V8. Was a 2 year money pit. Drove it to Denmark once. Sitting in complete comfort at silly speeds on the autobahn was awesome. Scraped it 2 years ago as valve stem seals were bad and too expensive to repair. Also had an electrical drain.
Love this video, Joel. Listening to Chris talk through the checkpoints without interruption was thoroughly engaging. I don't even want a Cayenne, but after watching this, I feel I know the car well and what to look for if purchasing.
Hi Joel, I have owned my 3.2 v6 for just over 6 years now & I can honestly say its been the best reliable car I've owned, it also tow's effortlessly. I have dealt with all the little niggles you get, but they are all well documented on one forum or another and easily fixed. The spare parts are cheap because of it being a multi-platform car. In my 6 and a bit years the most expensive repair was the labor charge for replacing the coolant thermostat, the part itself was less than £20. I have the air suspension and its been great and reliable. It just keeps going. It had new disc's and pads fitted when I bought it and I only replaced the pads last year after 50,000 miles. I have looked at other cars in the SUV range and they all compare themselves to the cayenne's greatness. I am only the 3rd owner of my one after 20 years, mines an 04 model by the way, Reg V6 DKD (so you can check it out) even the number plate was cheap. Who cares about the mpg when you drive past all the broken down vehicles on the side of the road. I put an after market head unit that looks great and sorts out the Bluetooth issue as well. If you like reliability you'll keep it, oh and my battery date is 2007. I could go on for hours, all the best.
Chris is an absolute gem, presents beautifully, passionate, knowledgeable, honest and open, a real credit to his trade. I'd love to see more of him on the channel.
I can imagine all these minor jobs this guy has found that he suggests you wait until bigger thing needs fixing to get done would be jumped on by other garages and need changing right away. This guy sounds like an outstanding and trustworthy mechanic.
Yeah most probably, not enough honesty in this world!
My mechanic is like that too. He tries to work the least it seems I tell him things I want done he's like you dont need to do that now wait until a it actually becomes an issue. My car was overheating it would go past half but drop right back down and he's like dont worry unless its actually staying overheating its good for now
Looks like a great buy! The off-road capabilities of these are very understated. Take a look at some of the off-road Cayenne builds we have done ;)
Maybe you could show me a few places to have a go at some soft off roading with mine!
I took my Cayenne to Avalanche Adventures, it’s a great starter course imo.
@@itsjoel Drop us an email with where you are based and we can make some suggestions. We're looking at organising another VAG & Porsche off-road event in the next couple of months too
Looks like you've bought a good one, worth spending a bit imo. A gearbox service would be at top of the list if it was mine.
Agree. I’ll have to double check, but I’m pretty sure the gearbox was serviced about a year ago!
Really informative. Great to see someone sharing their knowledge in that way. Well done. You bought well and I think yours looks more classy than the turbo in any case.
Thanks for watching!
E porche have done themselves no harm allowing you to video…..they sound like a good find Joel.
Agree! They and Larose Porsche have been fabulous over the past few years!
Always a pleasure when I’ve met Chris and Co at Eporshe with my Boxster indeed I bought mine from them and they were great for my own UA-cam channel
Great video! Very interesting looking at all the things they check on a service of one of these!
Indeed!
Chris appears to be a thoroughly decent, honest and knowledgeable chap. I have an old 1987 944 turbo so I might be giving him a call soon ish.
Can definitely recommend! The rest of the team are equally fantastic.
great recommendation Joel. Also btw bloody well done on the Cayenne - what a great buy
944 Turbo. Very nice. Old enough to remember unfortunately 😢
@@andrewlorenz3139 you are much younger than myself good sir!
@@mikespink1965 Very kind! 62 in march though!
Great to see you again, Joel, this channel has grown a lot. When you had issues with the indicator, I thought it was the connectors. Music on your channel is great too.
Thanks for coming back!
Love the video and your mechanic Chris seems very honest and genuine! Not like most of the mechanics I have ever dealt with.
Great video! Chris was awesome, very knowledgeable, decent and someone you would 100% trust to work on your vehicle. I was in the market for a Cayenne over the last couple of weeks but decided to go with an X5, purely because of the lack of decent options in my area. The cylinder issue would always be something that would play on my mind also. But awesome cars and again really good video.
Nice video bud - helped me to know what I am looking out for when I go to buy one on Saturday!
Now, this was a great in-depth video full of useful information. So a big thanks to the guys at the garage to Joel.
Glad you liked it!
Interesting to see such a comprehensive tour!
Great buy! Fantastic honest mechanic! I had a great mechanic whilst I owned a Cayman S, I cleaned out the sooty throttle bodies, fitted a full stainless exhaust and it felt like a different engine ! Get your throttle bodies and intake clean, air filter replaced, and the leaking exhaust and you will feel a big difference!!!
Love how clean the engine bay is all hidden looks so smart
It’s such an aesthetically pleasing engine bay, especially the way everything is covered. The V8 looks even better!
Well as you knew, a 2005 cayenne is on its way to the scrapper and not worth spending money on. Still at 3k, it's shed money and fun to cruise around in.
Really enjoyable video made better by the obviously honest and knowledgeable technician Chris!
Glad you enjoyed it
Right, get these guys on for Porsche buyers guide!!!! He knows his onions! I have subscribed to their newsletter!!!
Seems a really good guy, not pushing needless work
Absolutely top video,I learnt so much thank you.
One of my favourite youtubers atm
Thanks!
Be on 500k before you no it! 🎉🎉
Comes over as a great, common sense mechanic I predict more work coming their way from new customers who want good honest expert advice on what they really need to keep their pride and joy running reliably - good video
Thanks for tuning in!
Great purchase Joel!
Great stuff, I’ve always hated the chrome around the windows and pillars. Would be great if you did a vid on chrome delete or wrapping in gloss black. Really update the car and make for an interesting video!
I hate the pillar chrome (not chrome, more like a satin aluminium finish), but I like the window and boot trims to tie in with roof rails and wheels (at least on mine). So I’ll be doing a gloss black wrap of my pillars.
Solid car mate, I wish they did these in a 7 seater, I would have been tempted to get one over the X5 I bought.
We need more ‘Chris’s’ in this world 👍
Totally agree!
Very informative, thank you Joel.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video love the older car reviews 👍
Thanks 👍
That drain problem is similar to Rover 75. I broke down due to the same reason..flooded plenum which got in the ECU. The car did work ok once dried out. I did take the ECU apart and made sure it was dry, but I sold the car after that.
Thats a honest car shop which is excellent and trustable, very professional team.
Man, I've been so tempted to buy a 2012 Mercedes E class station wagon that's so underpriced and overmiled, just to have a hobby 😂 You Joel are influencing me to what you're doing as well 😅😂 Everything is set, it's only in Germany and my fear is it would break down on the way back 😅 Which would be a nightmare, once home, it would be a dream, I can start finding parts to slowly get it to refurbished. You can't kill a Mercedes after all 😅
Love this mechanic. Very fair and trustworthy.
Nice one pal , Chris seams a nice guy , definitely the kind of garage you whoud want to look after your car , 😁👍
My thoughts exactly
I'm looking at buying a 05 plate Cayenne with a 4.5 litre engine . This video is one of the most informative videos I have ever seen , only trouble is that I need the car up on a ramp before I buy it as there is so much to consider and as my "project" has done 144K miles , a lot more potential wear could be possible . I live in Cornwall and the car is in Bournemouth area which raises the question of do I take a chance or not ? Hard decision but thank you for the video , it is absolutely invaluable !!!
I can tell you i would trust taking my car to this chap he really seems to know his stuff!
Top guy Chris is, knows his stuff. Good result.
Great video, finally got myn on the road it’s in need of a little restoration, it definitely was the UK’s cheapest Porsche I uploaded it the other day if you want to check it out Joel.
Will check it out!
Excellent guys, definitely know their stuff and I bet their prices are reasonable too 👍
What a relief, it could’ve been a lot worse! I know where I’m going when I get myself a Porsche! 😃
Great video, wish I knew a mechanic who could tour me on my car. I saw your Audi TT in the video and wondered if it is still for sale and what you wanted for it. We enjoy your Videos.
A great video. Very informative.
Looks like you got a good one and look forward to the follow-up video. (As long as it's not you doing the work!)
That's the plan!
A top mechanic a top car,, well boss👍🏻👍🏻
Wish my mechanic was as straight as your guy. Restores belief that not all garages are not as honest as they should be. Honest decent guy.
I like to live my crazy car purchases vicariously through you. Much cheaper this way 😅😅 great channel.
That’s a very intelligent approach!
Good watch ..Top man at eporsch 😊
Good advert for eporsch
It's always nice when your mechanic says nice things about your car. It looks like you got a genuine little bargain, all the issues seem like generic 19-year-old car.
Did you resolve the issue with the engine light illuminated?
Thats how a mechanic should be, explain whats what, give his opinion (baised on the car/ price/age/ owners wallet/comman sense.
Is the throttle body something you can do Joel?
Its just nuts and bolts, clips and a spray can.
good video, heart in mouth stuff with a Porsche but you’ve done well. Engineer spoke well, he’d get my business.
I’d be very happy to use that mechanic … what a good free advert 😊
I wish all mechanics were this man 👍👍👏
I would want Chris for my mechanic.
Really informative video Joel and Chris. The more I see the more I feel tempted to buy one. I've got no interest in going fast, especially in something this heavy, so the 3.2 or 3.6 N/A would do just fine for me.
I'm in the same boat about buying one as a second car... but i work from home and don't do too many miles as it is, so thinking about the big daft V8 turbo,
Can definitely recommend a cayenne based on my own experience. V6 is enough power if you’re cruising around, or around 90% of the time
annoyingly a turbo has come up locally, in budget and MOT'ed till Feb 2025. but a 2007 and I really hate the thought of £700 tax.
£700 road tax would put me off even though I am already used to paying £400 for my cars. However, if you think that the condition is amazing and won't require much work, then the high tax might be worth it, especially if Joel's experience with insurance is anything to go by. If the turbo is only a little more to insure over and above the NA version, it might be worth it.
Or, you could just be patient and wait for a 3.2/3.6 to become available.
I won't mention the additional fuel consumption!!
i fall in love so easily with cars bit when i find out what they are like in side , i get hearbroken lol
This problems i would fix right away, and then take a alignment right away after the arms and bushings.
Then you most likely can drive a really good time before something new needs to be replaced :)
What a great vid Chris is top guy
Loved the video…Porsche guy seems a really nice guy too.
You had me in the intro, honestly... but the car was fine?!?!?! 😂 Fair play.
Great vid, it’s nice that the mechanic does not mind being filmed. A follow up on repairs would be nice :-)
He’s great on camera too!
@@itsjoel yes he is :-)
I had the same car mate..I absolutely loved it! But sadly one day the timing chain went on it and costed me over 7k 😢
Sorry to hear that
Chris seems a top guy, knows his stuff.
I've had 2 Mk1 Cayennes 955s, a 4.5 Cayenne S and a Cayenne Turbo 4.5 L Twin Turbo.
Both were amazing but expensive with repairs and fuel.
this mechanic is a good man I can see that
Nice vid!
I’ve been tempted to buy one as they’re genuine affordable now, but I would get absolutely slaughtered by the absurdly high registration tax and road tax here in Belgium…😕
Interesting vid surprised the belt wasn’t changed 👍
Will be going back next month to get that, and some of those other bits sorted!
Chris is a top geezer and very fair with his comments.
Great video.
Great car Joel, mechanic is a top guy to know
Thanks, yes great guy!
Well, that's got to be a relief! Lots of small stuff, but it would still add up to quite a sum I suspect. I'd just tackle the stuff as absolutely needed. And in the summer get it up on a lift for half a day and wire brush, treat, and paint the bits of corrosion. Otherwise, just treat the car with a little respect for it being 19 years old, and hopefully it'll last as long as you need it to. Remember it's not a sports car. If it were, some of the stuff would be more urgent. But if you were to push it hard, just know some of the suspension work will have to be done sooner rather than later. Driven normally as daily run-around and family utility vehicle, you may be able to spread the jobs that have been identified over a couple of years. Maybe aim to divide the list of jobs into four at six-monthly intervals. Some of the jobs you could even tackle by yourself on your driveway and avoid the labour costs to change cheap parts that are readily accessible. Anyway, congrats, and good luck!!!
This was a good buy
Definitely get the work needed done and film it would make a great vid 👍
That's the plan!
Very decent underneath for a 05. I've got a humble Honda Accord 2.4 of the same year that has avoided salted roads and looks similar. The Porsche scores though in having a fully hot dipped galvanized chassis.
Using the same insurance comparison site I wondered if the insurance would be expensive. Nope, I pay £220 and this Cayenne came in at £305 with the AA. I think I may switch to Porsche!
Did I see that the inner two tail pipes are not actually connected to anything?
Joel,Other great video let me know when you want to sell this car as I genuinely would be interested in taking it off your hands , as it looks like a good one .👍👌
Enjoyed the vid, wish you purchased a 4.5l V8 though so I could properly compare…
Maybe one day!
If you change the front subframe bushes make sure you get oem or find who makes them and get them ive fitted cheap bushes and its a complete waste of money
Not sure about the catalytic converter issue. They don't usually just break and need replacing, I'd put cataclean through it first, that will most likely fix the issue for £20. If not, you can get them properly cleaned out. Cat's don't usually just stop working and need replacing at any age.
Chris is awesome. I think from this point on you should only buy Porsches and use Chris. The throttle body would have been worth cleaning on the day.
19:57 Is the brake disc separating from itself? What is that long crack?
The kid did good.
Hi Joel. Nice car. Isn't Chris a star. Well done and don't forget to do that belt.
Lovely job another good video 👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊
7:37 it isnt fault of EGR for bank 1. i mean EGR blocked and catalic converter was overheat when engine warm up
