God used this scene to show me something extremely important. I’ve struggled with mental illness for a long time but I always have tried to fix it myself… I was struggling and ready to give up. I had a plan to go to a psychologist and load up on as much medication as possible because I was just done living like that. The place I was going to go to was called Pool of Bethesda… that was the name of the psychologist’s practice. (But they weren’t a Christian practice or anything)
I felt like Jesus was speaking directly to me in this scene when He says “you don’t need this pool. You only need Me.” I read the part of Scripture this scene was based on and realized it was called the Pool of Bethesda. It was as clear as day. I never went through with my plan. Canceled my appointment. Gave it to Jesus, and He took away the thing that was making me want to die. Freed me completely... I can breathe now… I cannot put into words what that feeling is like, to this day, I still feel that freedom all the time. It was something I struggled with for 12 years… every day… made me extremely suicidal… I’m free now. I’m completely free. Like I can walk, I’m not paralyzed anymore.
Thank you Jesus… so much… And thank you, everyone at The Chosen. ❤️ I know He is working through you.

I have a friend who was assaulted and it destroyed her for many years. I took her to Church and continued to pray for her for years. She tried to take her life several times but now doesn't have that desire. I told her she was a victim of a crime and anything going forward she was not responsible, but you must heal. God be with you and thank you for spreading the word. Many people need to hear your healing. God bless you always.

I have to be honest, I’ve tried to watch the Chosen critically, but there just hasn’t been a scene that makes me raise my eyebrows. Anytime that my eyebrows could raise, I just assume that the motive was that this could have happened, but you’re not saying that this for sure did happen (Jesus’s jokes, sermon prep, etc). Maybe I don’t think critically enough but you guys have done such a great great job maintaining the integrity of scriptures. Y’all are doing such a great job. I love how you receive and respond to haters.

For me I feel like the way Jesus is portrayed is nice and fatherly, but some mystery is missing because Jesus himself I consider a mysterious man who does not let much known about him. I did not think of him as provocating others so agressively except for the time he threw out merchants from the temple and got mad at them. I still hope we get Jesus's transfiguration in season 4 cuz it was a very important part in the bible.

God is merciful. He always forgives. Never be ashamed to take your failures to him. He is for you, not against you! God is with you in the storm. He knows your troubles, he hears you! He is for you, on your side, always! It may feel silent at times, but he’s holding you close! May the Lord return soon! We are drawing closer. He is coming! Believe and trust in the Lord, you will be saved. Period. May the Lord bless you all! Hang in there family. Stay strong. It is not easy following the Lord. We are scoffed at. We give up our earthly dreams, our fleshly desires. What the enemy offers is short lived, but heaven is forever! Life may seem or be unfair, but God is with you! Always remember that. Things may get better or worse for you, but a kingdom awaits you! Finish the race! Repent daily and carry your cross. This world is fading fast. Your troubles are temporary! Great insight! It actually depends on what part of the story you want to focus on. The story is divided in two.
      1. Jesus healing the man
      2. People being healed by the pool.
The second part can be used to explain spiritualism. Because healing can come from the devil.
People only were at the pool to be healed by it. They did not trust God, they trusted the pool.
Jesus came that day to the pool, to heal the man to show him that the power lies in Jesus and not the pool.

I found the scene perfect. There were so many diversities of thought in those days…I saw the Pharisees presence there as overseeing the pagan beliefs in hope to bring them to a more spiritual side….made sense to me…even today there are people who visit places for possible healing….it’s all about “hope”…. I loved when Jesus said there is nothing here for you….you only need me….great message 🥰

    • @maryloustone1594

@@bessieschaedel3890 The name of the pool, “Bethesda,” is Aramaic. It means “House of Mercy.” John tells us that “a great number of disabled people used to lie [there]-the blind, the lame, the paralyzed” (John 5:3). The covered colonnades would have provided shade for the disabled who gathered there, but there was another reason for the popularity of the Pool of Bethesda. Legend had it that an angel would come down into the pool and “stir up the water.” The first person into the pool after the stirring of the water “was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted” (John 5:4, NAS). The Bible does not teach that this actually happened-John 5:4 is not included in most modern translations because it is unlikely to be original to the text-rather, the superstitious belief probably arose because of the pool’s association with the nearby temple. It says “legend” and “Bible does not teach that this actually happened” 😃

    • @926paaja
      @926paaja 2 роки тому +1

@@maryloustone1594 that is totally false . Additionally a complete dissertation of this passage would take pages. First, it has been proven as late as 1987 that this place existed. And the dead sea scrolls mention Bethesda. It is written in John, to imply it is not actually scripture is heretical. The Bible does not say "and legend would have it, or superstitious, etc etc." Again, how would anyone conclude that? It also says that " an angel of the lord stirred the pool" to give any credit to a spirit other than one of the lord is the definition of blasphemy. How anyone could suggest that pharisees were hanging out in a pagan temple in hopes to bring someone to faith, is again absolutely ridiculous and totally unsupported by scripture in any text, anywhere. The scene leaves out the most important part, where Jesus tells him to stop sinning. Liking the episode, or show is one thing, twisting scriptures and trying to support them with half truths is forbidden, according to God. ( Bethesda has several meanings in Hebrew and Aramaic... grace, kindness, shame, disgrace, mercy just to name a few. It would take hours to unpack that )

Pagen or not, the beauty of how the paralytic was healed by Jesus, the visual of this now simply enriches what I was taught in Sunday School from my copy of the KJV Oxford Bible given to me in 1964 - the verse reads the same. The visual picture of what I always had in my own mind was brought to life by The Chosen group the night I viewed that episode. When Jesus walked into the area of the pool - I held my breath as I knew this was how I saw it in my mind all these years. Tears of joy - I feel like I was there witnessing it! But Dallas is also extremely intelligent on his approach. Everything is symbolic and carefully researched. I loved Bishop Barron’s question, and found Dallas’ answer to be honest and thoughtful. This is why understanding of Bible translations is so important. The “older manuscripts are better” argument isn’t as simple as many claim. The reason there are older surviving manuscripts is because these copies weren’t used and worn out. They were taken out of circulation because they had errors. They were never accepted as correct or valid manuscripts for the majority of Christian history until Westcott and Hort just a couple hundred years ago decided to use them to create the critical text. They also didn’t believe in the divine preservation of Scripture, so I think we’ve made a mistake exalting their text over that of the Textus Receptus. As Sobel says, God doesn’t waste words or details, so I’m of the notion He allowed the angel verse to be preserved all this time. By accepting a controversial text whose manuscripts have been criticized by Christians for literally centuries, I think we risk questioning if God’s Word is actually true and complete. Of course, this is a debate topic that has been going on for years, and there’s plenty of opinions on both sides, but I think an example like the angel verse shows that it’s important to understand why you use the translation you use. (Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.)

I think the pools are as scripture says and stirred by an angel. Angels do all kinds of things for God in the earth but what settles it for me is the fact that the Pharisees were there.
Like you show in season one, these people were so worried about APPEARING holy, they would never been seen in a pagan temple.
We need to be led by the Spirit of Truth, not the letters we see of the scholars who claim to understand the letters written. A scholar today goes to school for a few years, sometime over 8 years, a scholar back then was a Pharisee who studied the original text, from the time they were old enough to read until the time either their eyes grew dim or they died. And they still didn’t know they were literally talking face to face with God in the flesh and had Him executed.
They gave us a very important lesson in not leaning on one’s own understanding or the understanding of men. Be led by the Spirit. Meditate on the scriptures and He will explain them to you. Fasting helps immensely. I’ve noticed many people today don’t seem to be filled with the Spirit and don’t seem to even be called by God to teach, but they teach because they like to. The same type of people who teach healing isn’t for today and would recommend a psychiatrist if you told them God speaks to you.
Show is amazing and that’s probably the one part I thought was the inaccurate but the spirit of the show is true. The character of Jesus is exactly the same as the Jesus I see in scripture and have come to know in my own life. Can’t wait for season 3. And can we get a 4K HDR release? Would look amazing with this cinematography.

Yes, but we know that a few, literally a few verses in the Bible are disputed based on when and where they show up in manuscripts. I thank God that no foundational doctrine is in dispute. This is a minor issue. The main thing is a man was healed by Jesus after suffering through supserstition or selfishness of others for 38 years.

If we actually had all text this would be logical.. but all that has survived is possibly they were older and survived because the texts in Use would have been worn out…. I’m thinking of the Alexandian Codeses and Sinaticus.. seem to be missing text regarding the identity of Christ…. The whole Westcott-Hort controversy…. Their translations were from these older surviving manuscripts…. But reading the letters these gentlemen wrote to each other they didn’t seem to actually be believers….

What people get wrong is relying on their own logic. I can write something that’s true, another comes and writes what I said but gets it wrong, a third gets it right. If later in time we only find the second and third writing, you can’t just assume the second is right because it’s older.
This is why scripture tells us over and over that the letter leads to death and these things are only understood by the Spirit of Truth.

I like how Bishop Barron brought in the Catholic traditions to this. As a Catholic I myself sometimes ask "is this really something that should be kept?" Often I dig and find good answers but once in a while I must trust Jesus and just say "I trust in You and the Church you founded on Peter." Mistakes happen, ooooooh yes! But with a little grace we can correct them.

The Church is founded on The Rock. Jesus Christ is the Rock/ Solid Rock. Not Peter. Peter was a fallible human just like the rest of us. After being baptized in the Holy Spirit, he was emboldened to be a leader of the church.
When Jesus asked, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter said that Jesus is The Christ. Jesus goes on to affirm that God gave Peter that revelation.

The scene here was incredible and I truly appreciated how it was done. Ultimately, the debate for this is something my dad would call "small potatoes." As the details of this does not alter the goodness and truth of God, so the difference in opinion isn't the end of the world. Which is why when I read this, I take it a step further, pondering what could have possibly been and holding it against what I know God's word and truths to be.
For me, as of now (as our understandings of God's word and intentions continue to grow), I think about how the small-g gods came to be. Did someone just start making stuff up and pretend things could happen, or, were these potentially fallen angels? Perhaps that's where some of these small-g gods originated from. If so, it would stand to reason that if we were inclined to think the waters did actually cause healing when stirred up it could be at the hands of a fallen angel. I certainly hold no understanding of a God that would actually pit us against each other in order to get healing. So who would? We know whose purpose it is to divide us and to separate us from God, and that's the enemy. This pool would put people's hope in it, instead of solely in God, and therefore the enemy becomes successful. Dividing each other and removing us from our closeness to the Lord.
Only God knows what actually happened there, and so my thoughts are only to consider what could have been with what was given to us. I find the word of God so fascinating for many reasons, and my desire is to only know and understand Him more. At the end of the day, this line of thought about the pool doesn't matter. What matters is God is on the throne and my salvation and hope remains in Jesus alone.
    God bless!

@@terriannjones315, there was one built in Rome that was dedicated in 289 BC. I should’ve been more specific and talked about the one in Jerusalem that is related to the story. When the Roman Emperor, Hadrian, rebuilt Jerusalem as Aelia Capitolina in 135 AD, he built a large temple to Asclepius and Serapis, the Greek false gods of healing and believed deity. So it was more than 100 years after the event recorded in the Bible that it was hijacked for that purpose. In addition, Asclepius would only extend his mythological healing to ritually pure people who only thought pure thoughts, unlike Jesus, who loved and ministered to and healed sinners. Thus, this mythic Greco-Roman figure is a total mismatch for John 5.

St John the Baptist’s birth can be calculated by the time his father was serving at the temple. The families that served in the temple took turn and Zachariah’s month of service can be found out in the Torah and then translated into the modern calendar month. John the Baptist was 6 months in the womb when he “jumped for joy” when Mary visited his mother, Elizabeth. That month would have been April (late April taking into account Zachariah’s mandated service.) Wether Jesus was born mid or end of December really doesn’t matter as it’s a traditional date from the beginning. The fact is that the sun’s solstice isn’t on the 25th either, it is the 21st.
Anyway I doubt people who were being murdered for their beliefs would think “hey I know! What don’t we celebrate it on the day our murderous enemies celebrate their thing, that will go over well dontcha think?” That sounds stupid to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

The single most important message of all prophets to their people was to worship God alone and none else and to follow His teachings. All of them, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Jesus, Muhammad and others, in addition to those we do not know - invited people to worship God and shun false gods.
Moses declared:"Hear, O Israel The Lord our God is one Lord."(Deuteronomy 6:4). This was repeated 1500years later by Jesus, when he said: "The first of all the commandments is, ‘Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord.’(Mark 12:29)
So, the greatest commandment, the most important belief according to Jesus, is that God is one. If Jesus was God he would have said, ‘I am God, worship me.’ Instead, he merely repeated a verse from the Old Testament confirming that God is One.
This aligns with the mission of Jesus, as taught in Islam, where Jesus was sent to the Children of Israel to confirm the message of the past Prophets - to believe in the One True God.
most Christians nowadays believe in trinity.. Jesus said i came not to destroy the commandments of moses i came just to fulfill.
Muslims reject the Christian belief that God is a Trinity, not only because the Quran rejects it, but also because if this was God’s true nature, He would have clearly revealed it to Abraham, Noah, Jesus and all of the other prophets.
ISLAM is the submission in worship to Allah Alone and it is the essence of all the Messages sent to all nations before us. Allah is All-Just and All-Wise. He does not intend confusion for His Creation. The religion accepted to Him is the one chosen by Him. Its essence must be One, because He is One. It is free from geographical, racist, and status oriented concepts. It is Perfect and it is the complete way of life. All these qualities are chosen by Allah in His Only Religion: Islam. Its details are in in the Qur’an, read it and come with an open heart because none can expose better than the World of Allah. The Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad. He did not author it. He was unlettered. Its translation is available in many languages in bookstores or in an Islamic Center close to you. Take the time to read it and come/call the Islamic Center, or speak to someone who re-verted and submitted to Allah Alone.

Love that discussion, happy that the Rabbi brought those complementary infos. I used to be a Christian in terms of doctrine, I try now to follow the Torah in the way Yeshua practiced it but to honest I discovered that even if we start to try by the Spirit to obey God’s Word ( to be a follower of Adonai in Spirit and truth), we are blind, deaf, naked …
I personally follow the jubilee’s calendar to celebrate feasts and new months but most are following the traditional lunisolar calendar, others follow another. I tried to look at the strong points and the weak points of each and to be honest without going in the details ( what Rosh Hodesh truly means and all this details), we don’t see the angel rushing at the Throne, we don’t hear the Shophars of heaven blowing, we don’t feel it coming …
We all need to be humble on all subjects even the most basic ones and as a body of believers we should stop writing interpretations of men and imposing it on others.
We should all come into repentance.
The Christians believe that the law is done away, the Torah practicing believers are fighting over their calendars and how to do every single thing with so much assurance when in fact they don’t know.
No one truly knows perfectly anything and there are many mistakes.
This very discussion is a good example. But a council of men, whether it is Nicee or any other from the Jewish side or Hebrew roots side will solve the problem of what we suppose but truly don’t know.
The only way to know and check out understanding of Torah is like Moses : seeing behind the veil the reality on the other side in order to make a pale reflection on this side of life.
To see the throne of Ezequiel 1 and worship the One sitting on the throne : Yeshua
The very One who will put his feet on the mount of olives and who will enter the temple built by Ezequiel in the millennium by the Eastern door and NO One will ever walk through
    after.
Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of Yah and in due time, He shall exalt us.
    Be blessed !

@Robert Puffer I do not practice the Talmud. I only check all my practice and the books I read (old, New Testament and other) through the Torah.

@Robert Puffer for the question if I am a Jew, yes and no. I am of the house of Ephraim (both my parents have DNA of ashkénaze) and like most of us, we totally forgot the Torah and we put the name and reputation of Yah and His Right arm in the mud. Ezequiel 36 is so clear about what happened and what is happening now, He is Himself bring us back and putting His laws on our hearts so that we can do them. All of this for His name sake, not because of us.
I am eagerly waiting for Ezequiel 37 when we will all truly repent and start to unify under the banner of the Machiach and form this beautiful army that will get the land back from the anti Machiach and deliver the little rest left in Jerusalem.
hosanna! Baruch aba beshem Adonai !

@Robert Puffer all right, from what I read you are a blood line Jew and you are proud to be one. There is pride in it specially if you are of those who truly repent and do not follow the footsteps of those who killed the prophets.
Read well the scriptures and you will indeed find life and you will see that anyone fearing the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob can enter into and marry in Israel ( the multitude that came out along with Israel out of Egypt, Ruth, Tamar ……) .
You should be happy that goim are finding light in the Torah and you should be wondering why Yeshua is the One bringing them to it ( and I don’t speak about the Jesus made up by Christian doctrine out of Rome in 325).
You are probably already wondering otherwise you would never be on that very line of comments.
I suddenly see Jewish hate on Hebrew root plateforms and now here. Why do you guys now care so much ??? You didn’t care about Christians for as long as I used to be one before (35 years, never saw a Jewish comment on Christian platforms) because they were 100% foolish pagans for you I guess ( for right reasons) but now you care when we put in practice the Torah that is supposed to be only yours and you think it has been defiled because Yeshua brought it to us ?
Honestly thank you for those comments you make, you can unlike me all you want and maybe this messianic rabbi too but know one thing your ancestors didn’t like Yeshua either yet He came as the Ben Yosef (the suffering Servant)for you and soon He will come back as the Ben David (the conquering King).
Look well if you dare in the New Testament and check all the prophecies and you’ll find out, He is the anointed One.
He is born in Bethlehem, even your ancestors answered right to Herod yet they couldn’t care less and didn’t even bother to leave Jerusalem to check. So lost in their disputes of interpretation, they had no time to see the Machiah coming.
The so called “wise of Israel” say that the Torah is on their side yet they don’t respect it and write foolish things (Jeremiah 8:8).
Yeshua came for those who do accept that they are blind. Most of the Pharisees thought that they could see because they thought they had the Torah and it was enough. Having the Torah without having the Torah giver is like having a car with no key.
To me the Christian as a bad key (added and taken away infos on the Machiah) and no car and the Jew has a defected car ( added and taken away things from the scriptures) but no key. At the end no one wins and everyone is stuck. And those religious people of every side are lost and if they don’t decide to repent they will all die in their sins like Yeshua said. No teshuva: no forgiveness.
No forgiving others : no forgiveness for you.
Honestly everyone should get down their horse and confess their lack of understanding of the real spiritual world.
Yeshua said to the most expert in Torah of his day ( and I don’t think anyone in our day would go higher in Torah knowledge than those guys in that time who tried so hard to do it right to get those Romans out and be free from the consequences of their disobedience), he said to them : “You are blind guides leading blind people”
So if someone who is an expert in Torah is blind, what does it mean ?
It means that the Torah is a stick for blind people.
Since the fall every human being is blind, the Torah is a tool to walk in this world as blind people in order not to stumble and fall. It is a good start and that is why we all need the Torah as we are all blind but the Torah giver is the One we must pursue first !!! Let us not make out of the instruction for life an idol !!! The One true Elohim is the One giving the instruction for life. The stick is not to be worshipped, the Israelites had to get rid of the stick that bloomed that was in the ark of the covenant because it became an idol.
I guess if Jeremiah were here, he would have the very same message of repentance, same for John the Baptist. The good thing is that unlike Jeremiah who was alone and Adonai told him that NO ONE would listen anyway because judgment was decided, this time some are listening and turning from their ways.
      Be blessed !!!

@Robert Puffer after reading once again your reply, I think you are applying that you are a black Israelite.
You probably shifted like Prince David that I followed for a while.
I am French and to be honest all of this movement you are in is mostly in the US. To me it is understandable to try to find an anchor and pride but you guys should be careful, unresolved pain and suffering is also blinding.
If you are also pissed by “turn the other chick” then realize that He was doing the sermon on the mount which is literally a sum up of what people didn’t get on mount Sinai. The Torah say to not hate your brother in your heart and to release the debt at the Shabbat year ( once again the slavery theme) , so it is about forgiving your brother to be one. Shema Israel, Adonai is One, Israel must reflect Adonai and be One too. The Torah gives you the perfect justice that is to kill the one who kill but also teaches you mercy and that you do have the choice not to kill if you want to be like the Father in heaven and if you lost a loved One through someone then if you forgive, you are the one paying the debt and then you become the one setting the justice straight. The cross is all about setting the justice straight by doing mercy.
      Be blessed

Dallas highlights an interesting point. When doing research they found that x verse was not there in the first century manuscripts and thus concludes a logical possibility as to why it show up later on. ✝️🔬+ ✡️ = 👍🏼
