  • On 24 February 1989, part of the right-side fuselage of United Airlines Flight 811 rips off, ejecting nine people from the aircraft and causing explosive decompression. The flight later lands safely at Honolulu without any more loss of life. It was later determined that an electrical short circuit caused the cargo door to open, after an investigation was taken on by the parents of one of the victims.

I was sitting in a Qantas 747 ready for takeoff when this airplane made an emergency landing. We saw flight 811 land and fire trucks and emergency trucks and the slides etc. Quite something to see all this happen.

The Campbells are genuine heroes. United Airlines executives, on the other hand, are genuine villains.

What an amazing family. And props to United for meeting with them and taking them seriously.

The pilots and crew did an amazing job getting that plane back on the ground.

The most ironic thing about this incident is the fact the an aviation lawyer "ambulance chaser" was on board. I'm betting the airline was wishing he was in one of the seats that were blown out when the lawsuit's were filed.

i know when they build a airplane they want to save on weight, but i think certain things should take president over weight. like how about 50 less passengers and 10% less cargo and make shht out of steel. most people are so programmed to money, they are willing to kill for it. them 9 people were killed over money. period.!

This was posted at least 2 months ago , could have been longer ago than that . Would be nice if N.G. would put this in the post and not as if it was just released .
