Thanks very much. I looked at the outlet/switch, spent a minute trying to make sense of the instructions, and immediately looked up your video. I was able to install it in one try without issues, much thanks to your thorough explanation.
Question? Can you hook the gfci to that light circuit for protection of both circuits? For instance, I'm installing mine to the kitchen for my garbage disposal and would like both to be protected due to I have a outlet below my sink. Thank you, Ricky
Good video. The only other thing I wish you would have covered is the additional load terminals on the top of the unit below the switch pig tails, if you wan to connect another outlet in the series. You kind of mention it but an example would be good. Also can you just add the hot switch wire to the line terminal screw to reduce wire splicing and put the neutral from the switch into the neutral load? Good video.
Exactly and I hear that I plan on revisiting this video with all of the options that you can do with this switch. Thank you for your comment and watching. Have a great day ☺
Thank you so much I was frustrated and was only able to get the gfci plug on when the switch was on for the garbage disposal it's been like that for a couple months but I ran across your video and I took it all back apart and added a jumper wire thank you so much greatly appreciated
Enjoyed your video. So will the switch on the outlet control whatever is plugged to that outlet? That is what I need. Need to use that switch to turn a small pump on to a pool slide. Simply have white wire, black and ground. I guess those two black wires are basically breaking the circuit. Every way I’ve wired it so far either flips main breaker or switch does nothing
I'm not sure which one that is. I'm kinda confused on your comment... I can assure you that I have not ever deleted one single video from my channel. Might have to give me more context
@MountaineerOutdoors you had a demonstration of gfi on wall feeding non gfi near it. Then you showed how using LOAD of gfi to feed second non gfi receptacle. Using tester you showed that when gfi tripped there was still power to that 2nd receptical. I can't locate that demonstration. Thanks for replying.
Hello, thanks for the demonstration videos. This one shows installing a switch, gfci combo. I have a question about this video and a previous one on, “Switching a gfi receptacle.” Imagine combining those two, and tell me is there any reason I can’t jump the switch to the gfci receptacle? Creating a switched gfci outlet all in one single gang box? Thanks Steve
Is the GFI supposed to click when you reset,?everything else worked,I have a black hot and white on the bottom and a green light on for the GFI, Thanks good video, also if all these wires don't fit with the wires and reseceticals an extension required? Thanks Fred
Do you think this switch is worth it if I have no ground wire? To turn my light on? House is old. Running a 12/1 I believe. Alternative to ground my exhaust fan/light?
Well as you mentioned, it's always better to have a ground.. But to satisfy the code you need gfci in bathroom settings.. So to be honest with you question do I think that this switch/gfci is good... Yep absolutely I believe it is very good. And I have a video coming back out on this same switch showing how to wire it up to protect the lights as gfci. Bottom line is yes it's an excellent product
I have the problem you described, no outlet in an old bathroom. Wanted to add one at the switch. All i have though is a hot and a Switch leg. Is there no way to make one of these work?
I bought this thinking it would provide GFCI protection to the light switch to protect an exhaust fan I installed in the shower. But it seems that no matter how I wire it, there's no way for that to work. Any suggestions? I already attempted to add a gfci breaker at the panel, but that circuit shares a neutral wire with a different circuit in the garage.
I followed the video to a T, and you have been helpful but I'm still having an issue! Switch and light work and GFCI "green-light indicator" lights up but when I plug something into the outlet, there is no power. Also, the "test" button won't click. Would love some help if you end up seeing this.
Thanks for this video brother… I was getting annoyed at first and thought to myself…. Geez, what a windbag… and thought.. this guy talks unnecessarily much… but ultimately this video proved to be helpful.. thank you brother.. super helpful video… less talking and more to the point next time… but thanks for teaching 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
Thank you so much for your honesty. I take every criticism and try to better myself. Especially in the newer videos. I do appreciate you and your comments. Have a great day ☺
Ok I have a kitchen that has now gfci. In the same box it has line in, a switched light and a plug in that box; then it has one more plug and it goes out to the laundry room light. It works but once I tie the laundry into the mess it won’t reset. I’m lost
I just got myself a cotton candy concessions trailer and updating it as it's 34 years old, to make it more efficient. I can't run the whole thing off 1 generator 30amp power supply. it's wired for 50amp so when we have city power works great however at smaller events where it's only 30amp supply they have asked us to supplement power. I want to run 2 separate panels dividing the load so I can run of 2 30amp power sources bit if I have a 50amp power supply link the 2 panels to run as 1 unit. I assume there would be a switch in the middle to split or join the panels? Do you have any advice on this or how one would go about doing this? Thank you in advance
That was very good I have a I have a GFCI that has those two wires on it and I wanted to know how to hook it up thanks for the video very good excellent keep up the good work ..👍👍
Hello, I know you that the first thing you mentioned was that a Neutral was needed for this but I am just want to be 100% sure. My bathroom does not have any outlets at all and I wanted to install one of this on the light switch to plug stuff in. When I opened the box, I only found two cables (1 black wire and 1 blue wire) and nothing else. Not even the grounds wire. Installing this combo switch/outlet will not be possible in this scenario right?
I cannot believe that it took this long for someone to finally say that.. Excellent idea I was gonna do it in the video but I chose not to. Excellent comment
Good evening I encountered this switch for the first time I tried hooking up the power to the GFCI with my tester it appeared like I had power off of both legs of the switch so I didn't hook up the switch because I did NOT want Two Power Sources.
Exactly what I needed. Except I want the fart fan on the GFI switch. I'll leave the light switch alone. (Separate light over sink, fart fan in the center of the room).
I'm going to guess that the GFCI is for 20 Amp lines but it's rated to trip at 15 + Amps??? Or, does it trip when 20 amps is exceeded? Thanks for the video.
On this video, you have the neutrals pigtailed and going into one part of the switch. On your second video, you have two separate neutrals going into the switch without a pigtail. It’s not clear to me why you have two different installations for the same combo receptacle.
Just did a switch/outlet GFCI and this was the video I used to help me. Literally followed step by step. Granted I’m a little electrical savvy but wanted to play it safe and reference this video. Used my multimeter Used a Klein 3 prong gfci outlet tester it all tested good.

U posted a video showing gfi mistake using Load to output to next receptacle, did u remove that video ?

@MountaineerOutdoors YES, many many thanks my friend.

Great video...I'm just frustrated because I am doing it just like how you did but the switch is controlling the outlet and I can't figure out why...
Humm don't know why

How do you know if the switch will control the GFI or not
ua-cam.com/video/-FavP8faGkc/v-deo.html here is the video showing you how to do it
@@MountaineerOutdoors I figured it I had the wrong type but thankyou so much
No problem but if you have one like I pictured you can use the switch to control the gfci. I did it in the video I linked in the comment
The one i had did not have the outlet separate from the switch
ua-cam.com/video/ASHnLcvO-3w/v-deo.html here is how to do it when it's separate
The type of GFCI you just showed is the type that's going in my garage to control two other outlets thanks
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
I have the same setup in my bathroom although it is missing the ground wire is it a big deal not having a ground wire?
The gfci will not produce a ground. But it will satisfy the code.
Thank you, I looked at other youtube videos that were not as clear as yours.
I appreciate that. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
I have 3 110v outlets within 3 to 4 feet of my kitchen sink. How many afci/GFCI outlets do I need to install?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Great video, when you say hot do you mean power line? Thanks
Yes that's correct

Does the GFI operate the switch as well as the outlet? Meaning does a trip the switch leg in addition to the outlet?
It can if you hook it up like that
I have the problem you described, no outlet in an old bathroom. Wanted to add one at the switch. All i have though is a hot and a Switch leg. Is there no way to make one of these work?
You will have to have a nuetral so no.
Can I run the hot for the switch out of the GFI outlet portion? I am looking to make the switch GFI protected because it controls a shower fan.
Yep
I have a single switch but if there’s no neutral I can actually make one and it’ll work?
Make a nuetral?
I bought this thinking it would provide GFCI protection to the light switch to protect an exhaust fan I installed in the shower. I have a video coming out soon on how to make what your talking about happen.

Sounds like you don't have power to receptacle part

I only have 1 line into my box. 1 load, 1 neutral, and ground...where do I put the 2nd switch line off the gfci...????🤔💙

Is it possible to install one of these with only two cables coming from wall
you will need a neutral in the box and not just a white wire from a “switch loop” but an actual neutral
Hello, I know you that the first thing you mentioned was that a Neutral was needed for this but I am just want to be 100% sure. Nope you have to have a nuetral for sure
Why not wire the switch to be gfci protected? Light hot and neutral to load side, connect all grounds?
I cannot believe that it took this long for someone to finally say that.. Excellent idea I was gonna do it in the video but I chose not to. Excellent comment
@@MountaineerOutdoors Could you show how to wire the switch to GFI....

I had a switch/receptacle already and wanted to switch it to GFCI. Now the switch works when it's on, but it pops the breaker when I turn it off.

You can definitely do it
